Luna Bars are great. I’ve only had 2 prior to these new ones, White Chocolate Macadamia and Nuts over Chocolate, and I loved both. White Chocolate Macadamia is a staple in my house, delicious! I reviewed it before, you can check that out here.
Luna Bars are directed toward women (but you dudes out there will love them too!), and are fortified with vitamins and minerals and come in 14 flavors. They are all natural, of course, and 70% organic. I use them mostly post workout because they have a good dose of protein with fiber, and a little fat. Perfect for recovery!
Anywho– I was sent the Berry Almond, Lemon Zest and Caramel Nut Brownie flavors with the New Recipe logo on them to try. I was most excited about Caramel Nut Brownie (uh, who ISN’T!?) and scared to try Lemon Zest. Lemon? and Soy Protein? Well, i’m not one to judge till I taste, so here we go!
Berry Almond- so not what i expected! I was expecting a mild berry flavor, but this one is sweet and berry-licious 😉 . It’s even purple in color! No icing on this one (aw, man!), but it’s still plenty sweet. It has flavors of cranberry, blueberry, and pomegranate all mixed together. I think i even tasted a little bit of black current. The mixture of berry flavors is very good, slightly tart, but mostly sweet. The almonds added a nice touch too, and a nice little crunch. I give this one 4 stars.
Lemon Zest- uh, can we say, yummy!? I thought i wasn’t going to like this one. I’m not fond of lemons, lemonade, lemon flavored anything really, probably due to the tartness. But this one was good. It was “bright” tasting, if i can use that as an adjective to describe food 🙂 . It was not tart at all, (I think they should perhaps they should take away “Zest” in the name?) but rather sweet. The creamy icing was really good too. I even detected a bit of a honey flavor. This one gets 4 1/2 stars for me 🙂
Caramel Nut Brownie- wow, this one really did remind me of the flavor of a fudgy brownie! I liked the pretty icing design on the top, too! I didn’t detect too much of a caramel flavor, more of a dark chocolate flavor. Even a hint of mocha or coffee flavor, but not too much. It was also enjoyable, and good to nix a chocolate craving in the boootayy. 4 stars!
Overall, these were really good. Perfect post gym or when you have some major hunger pains and some cravings for something sweet. I really want to try the cookies & cream flavor. What flavor is your favorite?
Each bar is 170-190 calories, 3.5-6 grams of fat, 27-29 carbohydrates, 3-4 grams of fiber, and 8-9 grams of protein. They are also a good source of calcium and other important vitamins & minerals!
