Luna Protein Bars

Need a little extra protein in your day? Well I think I have a tasty solution for you guys, made by Luna!

I’ve had some Luna Bars before, and certainly enjoyed them. So I was excited to try the Luna Protein Bars I was sent in the mail to try, courtesy of Luna (thanks, guys!). According to the website, “The power of protein keeps you full and feeling good about it, so go ahead—indulge in the chocolatey, nougaty goodness of LUNA Protein. Entirely natural, satisfying and sustaining for under 200 calories.” Each bar is all natural with 12 grams of protein, and added vitamins and minerals. They come in three flavors, Cherry Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and  Cookie Dough. I was most excited to try the Cookie Dough flavor- anything cookie dough flavored HAS to be good in my eyes! 🙂

Each bar is covered in chocolate with a dense, chewy center. I actually thought that they wouldn’t fill me up- they looked a bit tiny. I would say they are about as long as your pointer finger, and then as wide as 2 fingers. However, due to the chewy and dense nature of the bar, and the rich taste, they actually were quite filling! 🙂

Cookie Dough- this one actually reminded me of those candies, the malted milk balls for the flavor. I really didn’t taste much cookie dough flavor, but was more of a salty/sweet chocolate-y flavor. It certainly was the sweetest of the three bars, and I felt like I needed to drink some water with it. It was still pretty yummy, but not as I had expected. 3 1/2 stars

Chocolate Peanut Butter- I liked this one better than the cookie dough flavor, and it wasn’t as sweet. It has a peanutty-taffy like center, that had that “sweet” peanut butter rather than “savory” peanut butter taste. The milk chocolate on the outside was delicious- smooth and yummy. I also liked the little bits/chunks in the bar, which I would assume to be bits of peanuts. 4 stars

Cherry Chocolate Almond- Surprisingly (and ironically), the bar I thought I would like the least, was actually my favorite!  This one was really delicious!! It tasted like a chocolate covered cherry, with the perfect amount of sweetness. It was chewy, but not as dense as the other 2 bars, and also had little bits of almonds for a tiny crunch. The chocolate on the outside was also very good, and went perfect with the cherry flavor. 4 1/2 stars

Overall, these are good. They certainly were satisfying, and quenched my appetite, especially after a hard kickboxing workout. I liked that they are covered with delicious chocolate, low glycemic, and packed with protein and provide important vitamins and minerals like calcium. What I didn’t like was that they are a bit high in saturated fat (3.5- 4 grams), and also a bit high in sugar. However, if you like protein bars and crave some sweetness, I would definitely give these a try!

  1. I really like the Cookie Dough flavor. I do agree, the Peanut Butter is better. Isn’t peanut butter always better 😉

  2. i really like the chocolate mint flavor. i like that it’s so dense & the mint flavor isn’t overpowering. i also like that it’s only 170 cals.
i only wish that there were rice crisps/nuts/choco chips to provide a little textural variety. c’mon luna, mix it up! 🙂
