What’s a Golden Smacker?

Well, to be honest, I wasn’t really sure. Sure it looked tasty- anything involving milk chocolate has to be good to me! But, according to the website, “This smacker is covered in a creamy milk chocolate and is the perfect all-natural treat for those who love the combination of honey, peanut butter, oats, and milk chocolate!”

Well, I’m pretty sure I’m going to like it. I DO like “honey, peanut butter, oats, and milk chocolate!”

So, I opened up the package and was quite impressed- it was actually pretty big, and it reminded me of an oversized peanut butter patty. I took a bite and found that it was sweet, but not sugary sweet. It had more of a mild honey flavor. The milk chocolate on the outside was smooth, with peanut butter on the inside. There was also I believe crisp rice on the inside of the patty, which kind of took away from the peanut butter flavor. I sort of wish the crisp rice wasn’t there, and it was just milk chocolate and peanut butter.

Otherwise, a nice treat. It is a tad high in fat, 10 grams per Golden Smacker, but it does have 6 grams of protein! If I’m going to eat a treat, there might as well be some protein in it to help keep me full! I give it 3 1/2 stars overall.

*Question* What’s your favorite chocolate and peanut butter combination? I like to have peanut butter on chocolate muffins 🙂

*I was provided this product from Betty Lou’s Inc. to try for free*

Calling all chocolate icecream fans– you are in for a special treat! 🙂

First off, please dont be discouraged by the words “Goat’s Milk”-it makes quite a fantastic icecream! As I was absolutely amazed by the Vanilla Snowflake, I decided to try the Deep Chocolate as well with a coupon provided by LaLoos

I opened up the small container and saw a dark brown, rich ice cream. I scooped some out, and even though it had sat in my freezer for a little while, it was soft as butter. In fact, it was so easy to scoop out with a spoon- I was impressed! I tasted a little bit- wow, this was good! It reminded me of what a dark chocolate icecream would taste like. Rich, sweet, just a teensy hint of that dark chocolate bitterness flavor. It was soft and smooth in texture, almost fluffy like soft serve. It also sort of reminded me of the texture of an ice cream, but the chocolate flavor of a chocolate ice. Delicious!

Overall, I think if you like dark chocolate you would certainly like this icecream! I’m giving it 4 stars, because it’s really quite good. In fact, I ate mine right out of the container- for taste testing purposes, of course ; ) It is a bit high in sugar, but I do like that it has 5 grams of protein per serving. Nice!!

1/2 cup is 160 calories, 6 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 17 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein.

What’s your favorite flavor icecream? I’ll always be a fan of strawberry and cookie dough!

Chocolite Chocolate Chip Brownie Bites

Author: Healthnuttxo

Who likes brownies? Or, maybe the question should be, Who doesn’t like brownies?

Unfortunately, the majority of those sweet, lovely brownies usually have a lot of sugar and are high in fat. So, as an alternative, what about Chocolite Chocolate Chip Brownie Bites? I was sent a package of these to try from Chocolite/HealthSmartFoods, that had 3 bites in one package. The single serve package had FIVE grams of fiber, and four grams of sugar. Hmm.. Would this live up to a fresh outta-the-oven brownie?

While it wasn’t exactly like a fudgy, moist brownie, they were pretty good. Each bite was about the size in circumfrence of about a half-dollar, maybe a bit bigger. There was a sweet chocolate coating on the outside, with a slightly dry kind of crunchy inside. It was soft, chocolately, and had a slight vanilla taste. It kind of reminded me of the flavor of chocolate ice cream! I also think the name fits perfectly- Chocolate Chip Brownie- it also certainly reminded me of a cross between a chocolate chip cookie and a brownie.

Overall, 4 stars. I like that it was low in sugar, had 5 grams of fiber per 3 brownie bites, and was pretty tasty. On the downside, there are 3 grams of saturated fat for 3 brownie bites, and 5 grams of total fat. I do also wish that the inside was a bit less dry, but it was still good nonetheless.

Question- Which do you prefer, chocolate chip cookies or brownies? I would say I’m more of a chocolate chip cookie girl !

Crazy Camel Peanut Butter Dessert Hummus

Author: Healthnuttxo

MMM… Peanut Butter!
MMM… Hummus!
MMM… Peanut butter hummus?

Crazy Camel makes DESSERT hummus! Flavors like Toasted Almond, Chocolate Mousse, and PEANUT BUTTER! I tried a few (and reviewed some) in the past, and today it’s all about the Peanut Butter Flavor!

Being the peanut butter lover I am, I was happy excited to try this flavor. Something peanut buttery, that I could dip things into, other than peanut butter? Hmm… 🙂

So I opened up the container and tried a little bit- yummmmayy! 🙂

It was a light peanut flavor, that was slightly sweet as well. I could taste the chickpeas, but it wasn’t overpowering. I would have preferred a bit of a stronger peanut flavor, and a more savory flavor, but it was still good. I decided to have it on some toast- but, I mixed it with some actual peanut butter as well. It was good!

Overall, I give this 4 stars. While it wasn’t a substitute for peanut butter, it was a nice peanut butter tasting treat. It was also all natural, gluten free and dairy free too!

So here’s a question if you’d like to answer,- If you could make ANY flavor hummus, what would it be?

Oh yea, COOKIES!

I’d say I’m quite a fan of chocolate chip cookies (aren’t we all?), and it’s ESPECIALLY awesome when a cookie tastes great and has organic ingredients! Makes the treat of having a dessert all the more worthwhile in my mind 🙂

So, insert Newman’s Own Organics Espresso Chocolate Chip Champion Cookies. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like these, actually. I’m not a *huge* fan of coffee or espresso, in fact, I really never drink it, either. I just never have really been a coffee or espresso person, so I was hoping for the best.

I opened up the bag and saw cute sized cookies- bigger than the typical “mini” cookie, but not quite as big as a standard sized cookie. Just the right mini size in my opinion. They smell was like an average chocoalte chip cookie, wit just a hint of espresso/coffee aroma. It was a crumbly, sweet cookie, with a brown sugar/vanilla taste. There were quite BIG chocolate chips in proportion to the cookie. Actually, chips? I think that they  were more like chocolate CHUNKS! And soooo good, too! A milk chocolatey flavor, sweet, and  buttery. Delish. . The overall cookie did have a coffee-espresso flavor, but it wasn’t overpowering at all. I liked that a lot! I think these would be great for a espresso lover, or for someone who is not too fond of espresso- as it’s a good balance of both.

So, the verdict? 4 1/2 tasty stars. These were so good. It was like, I took a cookie out, began to eat it and thought, “ooh, these are good”, then took another, and thought “no no, these are REALLY good!” The only thing holding it back from a 5 star rating is the nutrition. Indeed, they are cookies and I will use them as a treat, but they are a bit high in saturated fat for my preferences (3 grams per serving). Otherwise, I think a perfect compliment to a cup of coffee (if you like coffee), or a ice cold glass of milk !

1 serving is 4 cookies (33 grams) 150 calories, 7 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 11 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Organicville Ketchup

Author: Healthnuttxo

Ketchup! I’ve never been a huge fan of ketchup, as I normally dipped my foods in applesauce, but I tried it recently since it seems to be popular in the blog world. Just the other night I had some ketchup with roasted cauliflower and roasted potatoes- the perfect addition!

Ketchup may get a bad rap because of the added refined sugar, but perhaps the one Organicville provides is better. I bought a bottle of this with a 50 cents off coupon the company gave me. According to the website, “Organicville’s exciting new organic Ketchup is made with the finest vine-ripened tomatoes and organic seasonings. And as always, we bring it to you without any added sugar! Sweetened with agave nectar, this richly flavored ketchup has the fresh hearty taste and texture you love!” Sounds good to me!   🙂

So, how’s the taste? Actually quite good! It was sweeter than what I am used to, and not as oniony/spicy as some other brands I have tried in the past. It sort of reminded me of a cross between BBQ sauce and ketchup– but didn’t totally have that salty zing to it that I have had with other ketchups.

Overall, I give it 4 stars. I love the fact that it’s organic, has no refined sugar, and is also gluten free. The sodium isn’t too high, either, with only 125mg per 1 Tbsp. serving. However, I did sort of miss the stronger salty/oniony flavors that other ketchups I have had provided.

Halloween is right around the corner- what kind of treat are you going to hand out? How about instead of candy this year, a Treat Size Envirokidz Peanut Choco Drizzle bar from Nature’s Path? These little bars are adorable, and a great option other than candy bars. Not only are they organic, but they are gluten free, too! They feature an adorable Lemur on the front of the package, and are about the size of a standard fun-sized candy bar (or about the size of my palm).

They are tasty too! A sweet peanut buttery base, topped with a perfect drizzle of chocolate. No joke- the drizzle on top was so pretty and perfectly organized! They have tiny peanuts in them too which add a nice touch- delicious! I’ll take these over candy any day !

1 bar is also pretty good nutritionally. A 14-gram bar is 60 calories, 2 grams of fat, 9 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 4 grams of sugar, and 1 gram of protein.

Penny’s Low Fat Desserts‘ opening statement about the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie is “Chocolate peanut butter—what a combo“, and I couldn’t agree more. Really, what’s better than that classic peanut butter and chocolate combination? I know it’s certainly one of my favorites! So how about when that combination is transformed into… a cookie! And, a low fat, sweet and all natural cookie, too!

Penny’s Low Fat Desserts sent me the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie to try, and I sure am glad they did! It was a rather large cookie, dark in color, with visible pieces of oats. I was super excited to try it- I just finished my lunch, and wanted  something sweet to finish the meal. Where else to turn but this yummy treat ?

I took a bite, and was actually surprised. It tasted like a brownie! A soft, fudgy, and moist brownie! The oats were chewy, and added texture, as they had that bite to it that oats have before I use them to make home-made oatmeal. There were little chocolate chips that were slightly crunchy and sweet, and made this a real treat. Of course, the best part was the peanut butter chips. Oh, sooooo good! I wish there were more peanut butter chips, as they really added a great touch.

What I also liked about this cookie, is that it was sweet, but not too sweet. It also has 7 grams of fiber per 1.8 ounce cookie! Overall, 4 stars. =)

One 1.8 ounce cookie is 150 calories, 3 grams of fat, 38 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams of fiber, 18 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein.
