as you can see... I helped myself to about half the bar =)

What’s Valentine’s Day without some CHOCOLATE?

Reviewing one of my favorite types of chocolate today… white chocolate! I’m also a fan of milk chocolate, but whenever I see white chocolate, it feels special, and it’s just so yummy!

I bought this bar the other day at Whole Foods, I believe it was on sale for 2 for $5.00, so I thought why not? I opened the bar to find that the squares were rather small, and had a nice, sweet vanilla aroma. It sort of reminded me of Easter time, when there’s a lot of chocolate bunnies and other treats around the house.

So I broke off a few squares and indulged. Mmm. Now this is really good white chocolate!! Super smooth and buttery in consistency, sweet without being sugary tasting, and a great vanilla flavor. I liked that the flavor was light enough so it wasn’t overpoweringly sweet, but rich enough to make a few squares all I needed to  be satisfied. Delicious! 4 1/2 stars.

What’s your favorite Valentine’s Day treat?

Reviewing one of my favorite things… peanut butter!

I recently ordered a few jars of Naturally Nutty peanut butter online, and one of them that interested me was the Honey Roasted Cinnamon Peanut Butter. C’mon, how good does that sound!?!?

According to the jar, it’s “made with Flax Seed” and “Hemp Seed” and has “omega-3 (ALA): 370 mg per svg. [serving]”. So, aside from the honey, there was cinnamon, peanuts, and some great nutrition facts!

I opened the jar, and noticed very minimal oil on top (hardly any)- a good sign for me already. As much as I love the natural peanut butters, I’m not a huge fan of stirring and stirring a jar of nut butter to get it to set. I took a spoonful, and here’s what it looked like.

I LOVED the consistency of this peanut butter. Not runny, but not stiff. Very thick and almost hearty, and while it wasn’t super smooth, it wasn’t chunky either. It stated it was “smooth” on the jar, but I would say it was more of an inbetween.

As I opened the jar, it had a nice fresh cinnamon smell to it. I tasted a bit, and unfortunately wasn’t as happy as I thought I would be. It kind of had an overpowering cinnamon flavor to it, without enough sweetness to back it up. In fact, where was the honey? All I tasted was peanut butter and cinnamon. It did have a rather delicious peanut butter flavor- thick, rich, just like peanuts you’d eat out of a bowl. But it wasn’t sweet, and I was disappointed.

Overall 3 stars. A good peanut butter, but not what I was expecting. Where’s the honey!?!

16 Handles Frozen Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Ok. I’m an avid frozen yogurt fan- and so far, this is one of the best places I have ever been to. I’ve been there a few times, and decided it needs a review on this website for all of you to hear about and perhaps go enjoy it, too!

One word that comes to mind? AMAZING.

I walked in, and went to the back of the store. They had a few “stations” if you will, with the flavors named and handles to pull. It’s self-serve! Pick as much or as little as you want! For obvious reasons (such as it’s pure awesome-ness) I went for the peanut butter flavor (how could I NOT get the peanut butter?)

Then, there was a topping bar, that had pretty much everything from fruity, to sweet, to crunchy. I saw cheesecake bites, cookie dough bites, brownie bites, mango, lychee, bananas, and so much more. I went for cookie dough bites and banana this time.

Here’s what my cup of deliciousness looked like.

yea... i ate some before I took the picture. I always forget to take the picture, THEN eat!!!

Then, they weighed my cup, I paid, and enjoyed!

The peanut butter flavor was phenomenal. Super creamy, sweet, and savory at the same time. Literally, I wish I could buy this by the gallon. I think it was almost exactly like soft serve ice cream in consistency. In fact, if you told me it was ice cream, I would have believed you!

The cookie dough was also delicious. Just like the cookie dough that comes in ice cream tastes. Soft, sweet, buttery and just perfect. I saved all of mine for the end and ate them all ate once- a cookie dough blob, I guess you could call it.

And lastly, the banana slices, fresh and mildly sweet. Sort of like when I eat a banana that’s perfectly yellow with no brown spots- it’s sweet, but not super sweet, and still has a good amount of firmness to it.

Overall, do I recommend this place? (is that a serious question?) Of course I do!!! I would give it 4 1/2 stars. Some of the yogurt is a bit high in sugar, but I love the idea of this place. You get to choose exactly what you want!

Have you ever been to 16 Handles? What’s your favorite flavor and/or toppings?

Lemon 0% Chobani Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

For starters, I LOVE Chobani yogurt. Creamy, thick, and insanely yummy. Strawberry Banana and Pineapple Chobani will always have my heart, but I’m always up for change.

Sooooooo at the store the other day, I nearly jumped for a joy when I saw the Lemon, one of the newer flavors. I’m not a HUGE lemon fan, but there were no other new flavors available, so I decided to try this one. Lemon can sometimes be very refreshing, I just hoped it wouldn’t be too tart!

So yesterday I decided to have the Chobani with some granola on it as well. I opened the Chobani and gave it a stir, surprised not to see any jelly/fruit on the bottom. It looked like it was a blended yogurt. It still had the same creaminess and thick consistency that I know and love. I took a spoonful, hoping for the best, and unfortunately I was not a fan.  : (

It wasn’t really that sweet, and kind of tart, actually. It was like lemonade made without enough sugar- where it’s sweet but not sweet enough to mask the tartness of the lemon. It was good when I had the granola with it, since it toned down some of the lemony-tart flavor, but by itself I wasn’t enjoying it. I probably would not get this again in the future. For me, I’d give it 2 1/2 stars

Have you tried this new flavor yet? What did you think?

Cinnamon Burst Cheerios

Author: Healthnuttxo

My favorite spice is definitely cinnamon. I love that it can be combined with sugar for a sweet treat, or even spicy for that red cinnamon gum. Delicious!

Browsing at the supermarket the other day, I saw Cinnamon Burst Cheerios. I never tried these before, and they looked really good. I looked at the stats, and saw that a serving was 1 cup, had 5 grams of fiber per serving, and no HFCS! Sounds like a winner already!

First I took a handful out of the box- Mmmm! These were really good. Not super sweet, and not coated with like a cinnamon sugar, it was more like cinnamon was baked into these cheerios. They were soft cheerios too, not soft like soggy, but not as crunchy and hard as usual. They were almost like sweet cinnamon pillows =P

Overall, really tasty. I liked them both right out of the box and in milk. The flavor is kind of hard to describe, but these are just GOOD! I also love that they don’t have HFCS, and have 5 grams of fiber, AND a serving is 1 cup. It’s a winner for me! 4 1/2 stars

Amy’s Kitchen Roasted Vegetable Lasagna

Author: Healthnuttxo

This is the BEST frozen lasagna I had ever had- and the most unique. I cooked this in the microwave, and let it sit for 2-3 minutes as directed (certainly difficult to do since I was hungry and it smelled GOOD!!). Here’s how it looked out of the microwave

Cheeeeesy goodness.

To start off, unlike any lasagna I ever had, it had breadcrumbs on the top, kind of like baked macaroni & cheese. It also had a creamy, cheesy sauce on top, followed by lasanga noodles, veggies, and then marinara sauce on the bottom.

First bite, I fell in love. The gooey and cheesy sauce on top had a cheddar flavor, which went so good with the breadcrumbs on top and the noodles. I do wish the breadcrumbs were a bit crunchy, so perhaps I’ll put this on broil in the oven for a few minutes before I eat it in the future.

The noodles were chewy and soft, and I saw broccoli, zucchini and the occasional small mushrooms for the vegetables. The veggies were soft, but still had a bite to them, so they weren’t mushy. There was also a bit of a black pepper flavor.

The sauce on the bottom tasted fresh, and reminded me of a more traditional lasagna of tomato sauce and cheese with noodles.  I noticed throughout the lasanga everything wasn’t dry at all, even a tad bit liquidy.

Overall, really, really good. Unique, and delicious, and quite filling too! I had it with some steamed broccoli (you know me!) and thought it was a perfect dinner. This one gets  4 1/2 stars : )

Kozy Shack CowRageous! Strawberry Pudding

Author: Healthnuttxo

I love pudding. In fact, I eat a chocolate pudding cup every day. I love the sweetness, the creamy texture, everything about it. So, at the store the other day, I went to purchase my chocolate pudding but I saw something new on the shelf- CowRageous! pudding, in STRAWBERRY flavor, by Kozy Shack. You know I was tempted. Well temptation won, because not only did I buy the strawberry pudding, but I also bought the chocolate pudding as well (you know, just in case!!)

First off, I loved the cartoon cow- how cute! I also love how this is made with natural ingredients, is gluten free, and has some fiber and calcium per cup. It was a bit on the small side, so I do wish that the serving was bigger.

Anyway, I opened up the cup and decided to have it with some fresh strawberries (and whipped cream, because, well, why not!?). Here’s what it looked like

Yea... I ate more whipped cream than that. 🙂

As you can see, my strawberries and whipped cream kind of swallowed up the pudding. Not a lot of pudding in the cup, but that’s what toppings are for!

It was thick and creamy, almost like a gel/pudding consistency, with more of a vanilla flavor with strawberry undertones. It wasn’t really all that sweet, I was expecting sweeter. In fact, my strawberries and the whipped cream were sweeter than the pudding. It also had a bit of a funky aftertaste, but nothing too overpowering. It was pretty good snack, and I enjoyed it, but it certainly won’t replace my love for my usual- the chocolate pudding.

Overall, 3 1/2 stars. It’s only 100 calories with 3 grams of fiber and 10% of the calcium needs per pudding cup. It was a bit small, however, so I would reccomend eating it with something else as well.

1 pudding cup is 100 calories, .5 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 14 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein.

If you could invent any flavor pudding, what would it be? I would do chocolate chip cookie dough pudding, or peanut butter! Mmmm! =)

AeroMAT Fitness Mat

Author: Healthnuttxo

Source

A little while ago, I posted about getting a free gift card from CSN stores to buy something online at their stores. What did I choose? The AeroMAT Fitness Mat. I always wanted a mat to use at the gym that would be soft and cushiony, and would allow me to do abdominal work without feeling the floor underneath my mat!

So I put this mat to the test and took it to the gym. I really liked the color- bright and cheery blue! I also liked that the straps were attached to the mat so it couldn’t fall off. One thing I wish it would have had is another strap attached to it so I could hang it on a hook- I don’t like to leave things on the floor if I don’t have to.

Anyway- I used this primarily for abdominal work. When I laid down on it, I noticed it was pretty cushiony and offered really good support. I couldn’t tell that I was laying on a hard floor. I also really liked that it had a good grip. Ever do crunches and notice that the mat seems to inch up and up and up until part of you is laying on the floor? That happened to me a lot with my last mat. But not with this one! It stayed in place the whole time.

Overall, so far it’s a really good mat! Love the cushioning and the support, I just wish it had a strap to hang it up with. Overall, 4 1/2 stars.

What’s your favorite abdominal exercise or something to strengthen your core muscles? I like the plank, followed by the bicycle crunches!

Nature’s Path Love Crunch

Author: Healthnuttxo

Ooh- not only something new, but also a limited edition!! I was offered a free box of Love Crunch by Nature’s Path, and well, seeing as 1. I love cereal and 2. I love Nature’s Path… how COULD I say no? : )

I got the box in the mail and instantly couldn’t wait to try it. A granola with dark chocolate chunks and fruit- what’s not to like? According to the box, there is also coconut and flax in this granola, which I certainly didn’t mind either.

I opened up the box and was a tad disappointed. Not as many dark chocolate chunks or freeze dried raspberries/ strawberries as I wanted or was hoping for. In fact, there really wasn’t a lot at all! Anyway, I tried the granola first. It was crunchy and sweet, with a coconut and a slight chocolatey taste- really good actually. I found  a dark chocolate chunk which I actually thought was very tasty, and I’m not even a *huge* dark chocolate fan. It was slightly bitter, but very smooth and quite sweet as well. There were very sporadic pieces of freeze dried fruit, and when I tried a freeze dried piece of strawberry I was surprised that it was crunchy! Usually freeze-dried fruit for me is rather soft, but these were a nice twist!

Overall, really good! I ate it right out of the box, but I’m sure it can be enjoyed a bunch of other ways as well! I think with some fruit and yogurt it could be a very delicious breakfast : ) I just wish there was more yummy strawberries and dark chocolate chunks! 4 stars.

What’s your favorite type of granola?

I went to Cosi again, so, here’s another restaurant review!

I got the soup and 1/2 sandwich combo, and I tried 2 things I never had before. the Pollo e Pasta Soup and the Tuscan Pesto Chicken Sandwich on whole grain. My total came to $8.48 which  I thought was a fair price.

I tried the soup first. It was actually very hot, so I appreciated that, since I had cold soup, and it was a cold, wintry day yesterday. It had a bunch of green veggies that were leaf-like in appearance floating on the top. On the bottom was pasta, but not a typical noodle, it was more like a dot, or a little circle. They were soft and pretty good. There were also carrots, peppers, & cucumbers that were all rather tender and good. The chicken was chewy yet soft, and there were even I believe chickpeas in this soup- odd, but tasty. The soup was kind of salty, and left a greasy feel on my mouth. It also had a funky onion/garlic aftertaste that I couldn’t get past. The first few bites were good, but as I ate it, I liked it less and less. I didn’t finish it, because I wasn’t really  crazy about it.

Next, the sandwich. The amazing, super tasty sandwich. Now, was it so tasty because my soup wasn’t really that good? Or was it tasty just on it’s own? I’m going with the latter, because this sandwich is awesome! There was crisp and crunchy, slightly salty and flavorful flatbread with fresh lettuce, chicken and an orangey spread on the inside. The lettuce was crisp, the chicken was chewy, slightly salty and had a great pesto flavor to it. But what made the sandwich was the spread. It tasted like a hummus almost- kind of like a cheesy tomato flavored spread, that was slightly spicy and very flavorful. Just delicious.

Overall, the soup gets 2 1/2 stars, and the sandwich gets 4 1/2 stars. I wont get the soup again,  but I will certainly get the sandwich!

Whats your favorite spread to put on sandwiches?
