Kashi Indigo Morning Cereal

NEW! I saw it at Whole Foods, and being the impulse buyer I am, bought this new box of cereal. I totally disregarded the fact I already had about, oh, twenty or so, boxes of cereal in my closet (what!? I told you I love carbs!), and bought it anyway.

It looked pretty good. And organic? Count me in!

So yesterday morning, I opened up the box, sliced up a banana and took out my almond milk (the other “usual” components of my breakfast cereal). I was slightly disappointed, there were HARDLY any blueberries or blackberries in the box! Β ):

Regardless, here’s a pic of my bowl. The cereal totally hides my bananas, but that’s all good.

Before I poured the almond milk or added any sweetener, I had a few flakes dry. They were light, crispy, and crunchy, but very bland. Just Β a HINT of sweetness, with a predominant corn flavor. They reminded me of what a puffed up corn flake might taste like.

I then tried them in the almond milk, where they proceeded to get soggy very quickly. In fact, I felt as if I went through my milk quicker than usual, and had to add extra to my bowl, as I believe the cereal soaked it all up! This wasn’t a problem for me since I happen to like soggy cereals (please, tell me somebody else does too!!). To describe the texture in the milk, it was kind of like soggy potato chips. Weird, but not horrible.

However, I had to add some sweetener to my milk to add some flavor to the bowl. The bananas alone wasn’t enough. Β And the few blackberries that I did have were actually quite good. Tart yet lightly sweet. I was surprised I liked them, since I’m not a big fan of blackberries in general.

Overall? It was ok. I had it again this morning, but mixed it with a more sugary cereal. I actually liked the result! I had the sweet taste of my other cereal mixed with the Kashi Indigo Morning cereal. I also really liked that the Kashi cereal had a pretty good portion size. 2 1/2 stars

Do you like your cereal soggy? Or do you prefer to eat it right away?

  1. Your definitely not alone. I love my cereals soggy. I haven’t tried this one yet. I’m trying to resist the urge to buy more cereals since I already have quite a few boxes I need to go through before I end up with 5 shelves of just cereal. πŸ™‚

  2. hmm, i can’t say that i like soggy cereal although, lately i haven’t been much of a cereal eater. when i do eat cereal, i use it as a topping for yogurt or smoothie bowls. in these cases, i definitely eat it right away – i hate it when they get soggy!

  3. @Ashley- would you judge me if I said I had 4 shelves of cereal, and a box on the floor?….hahhaha

@tea-bag, yea- cereal is really good on top of yogurt! I prefer mine mostly with almond milk and a banana. mmm! πŸ™‚

  4. hahah yea- sometimes I feel like im one of very few who actually enjoys it soggy πŸ™‚

  5. This is really funny. I just googled the cereal to see if I was alone in this, but my Indigo Morning has 0 berries in it. I poured the entire box into a bowl to be sure, not a single berry.

I didn’t try with milk, but mixed with some yogurt instead. pretty good.

  6. wasn’t it upsetting with no berries! Glad I’m not the only one, haha. I’ll have to try it with yogurt, I added mine to a calorie dense cereal to lighten it up πŸ™‚

  7. I guess some peoples taste buds are more sensitive than mine, because this was the worst cereal I have ever tried! Its the first cereal I can say tastes like cardboard. And as some other people stated, there is hardly any berries in it. In my opinion Kashi dropped the ball on this one.

  8. I just bought this cereal the weekend – I like it. No it doesn’t have that many berries in it but that’s okay – I’m never a big fan of the dried up fruit in my cereal. I actually thought that the flakes didn’t get as soggy as say raisin bran flakes do but I don’t put much milk (almond of course) on my cereal. I think I would mix it with the Kashi U cereal to get a little more flavor though. The one I was disappointed in was Kashi’s Honey Sunshine – that tasted like styrofoam!

  9. You definitely got a bad box. It’s delicious with a good amount of berries. The berries sweeten and flavor the flakes. Every box I’ve had has enough berries to turn the milk purple. I’m sad that others aren’t as in love with it as I am.

  10. I agree, you got a bad box. I tried this cereal today after reading all the bad reviews and I am so surprised, because this cereal is really good. I’m picky and I thought it was good! It’s perfectly sweet and I like the tartness of the berries because it’s how they are suppose to taste. Speaking of berries, there was a ton in my bowl, it even turned the milk purple.

  11. I think my box had one berry in it! The whole reason I chose this cereal was because the name and the pic on the box advertised that it would be full of berries. With no berries, this cereal is definitely not worth $4 for a 10-oz box! It’s very blah.

  12. mine had tons of berries… SO good! One of my new favorite cereals. i am sad for those that didnt get any berry goodness πŸ™
