Edy’s Strawberry Fruit Bars

Ask me my favorite ice cream bar when I was little? Strawberry Shortcake bar. Favorite ice pop? Strawberry frozen fruit bars. (can we see a pattern emerging?) I was also told as a child that when eating my favorite fruit, strawberries, (which strangely enough, is not my favorite fruit anymore- I’ve graduated to the apple!) my entire face and hands would turn red. That was compltely uneccessary to share, but now you  know one of my flaws. I was a messy strawberry eater as a child. Shame on me.

ANYWAY, I saw these Edy’s Frozen Strawberry Fruit Bars in my freezer today, and decided I NEEDED to have one. How they got there, I don’t know. I suppose the appropriate thing to do would be to ask whoever bought them if I could eat one, but that never works nicely in this house.

“Can I have one?” “No.” “Why not?” “Because I said so.

Which I then proceed to eat anyway and get yelled at, or not eat and wish I had eaten it. SO, as they say, ignorance is bliss. Or, ignorance= me eating strawberry ice pops.

it's really, really hard to take a good picture of an ice pop you plan on eating

So, now finally, enough of my rambling. Here’s how they tasted!

These bars had a very soft bite to them- I was surprised! I was expecting a harder, more icy product, but they were soft. Almost like they were strawberry ice cream bars. They also were not as sweet as I had hoped for, they were a bit toned down. Although I did like that because it wasn’t super sweet, it gave it more of a natural fruit product sort of feel. One thing I do wish is that there were more strawberry peices/chunks. In my bar, I think I only spotted one!

Overall, not bad, but not my favorite. Certainly not as good as the ones I had when I was little. 3 stars

What is your favorite ice cream bar and ice pop flavor?

  1. i used to sprint to the ice cream truck to get organge creamsicles! i also used to love those fruity push pops! 🙂

  2. ahh, fruity push pops! I remember those! also, the ones with the gumball as a nose 🙂 mmm!

  3. I have a bunch of these (plus other flavors) that have been in my freezer for years! >.< They are nice, but like you said, not sweet enough to be a true treat!

Hopefully it'll get warm enough here that I'll want to eat them. Brr!

  4. That’s so funny, I’ve always been the exact opposite! I hate strawberry flavoured stuff – but I think it’s the artifical flavoured strawberry stuff I dislike, cause I love actual strawberries themselves. I was always about the peach/apricot flavoured lollies and yoghurts and so on…

  5. I had a bite of the double caramel one once- it was HEAVENLY! Ill have to do a review of those soon if the ingredients are natural! 🙂

  6. ah, I see. fruit “flavored” stuff usually doesn’t do it for me either. grape flavored things are the worst!! 🙁
I was a fan of the strawberry shortcake pop because of the crunchy outside!! 🙂

  7. Healthnuttxo,

Just a “bit” haha! There are no “bits’ when it comes to super premium ice cream bars. They are the kind of food that takes me 25 minutes to eat, and I definetly get my money and calorie worth.

And what if they are not all natural? If they work into a whole 80/20 mindset, is the claim to not be “all natural” really that damning? Health is about balance, after all…

  8. oh, of course agreed about the 80/20 mindset. My “rules” of this blog, however, are to provide reviews of strictly natural or as close to natural as possible. meaning no trans fats, etc. 🙂

  9. Fair enough. I’m pretty sure they don’t have aritificial trans fats, although they may contain trace amounts of natural trans fat, since they are so high in saturated fat due to the cream. But they are worth it. Double Chocolate and Double Caramel are both excellent. I find myself much more satisfied with full fat dairy and ice cream in small amounts or on semi-regular occasions than on going with lower fat items. I don’t like paying (or eating) air whipped into my ice cream 🙂
