No Pudge! Fudge Brownie Mix Original

Author: Healthnuttxo

Brownies. Nothing quite like a brownie. And when the craving struck, I turned to no other than the No Pudge! Fudge Brownie Mix in the Original flavor.

The directions were easy peasy- add 2/3 cup of yogurt, mix, and bake! I added 2/3 cup of one of my favorite brands of yogurt, Stonyfield Farm.

Another thing I liked? That I didn’t have to use a hand mixer. Seriously. Mine is SO OLD I feel like it’s going to break every time I use it. I can see it now. Baking our yearly 3,000 (I’m exaggerating, of course) Christmas Cookies, and then POOF! out goes our electric mixer. Mixing by hand  for ALL of those cookies would be no fun at all.

Anyway- for these I got to use a spoon.
Not to say mixing was easy, cause it wasn’t. This batter got super thick and hard to mix.

And can we say powder all over my counter? (Ok, I’m exaggerating again. It didn’t
get ALL over. But it certainly made a dusty appearance
on my white countertops.)

Hmm. Should I add something? I kept mixing, and decided a few drops of water would help things mix easier.

Aside from the fact that this pic is super blurry
(I blame my poor photography skills 100% for that),
the water seemed to do the trick.

I then transferred the mix to a pan and put it in the oven. I then had a failed attempt at getting the batter off the bowl. It was so sticky! It would not come off! (good thing for dishwashers!)

So. FINALLY. How did these brownies taste? That’s all that matters right? I’m sure you heard enough of my complaining about how the batter was too sticky or hard to mix. Poor me. Good thing I have a batch of brownies to console my whiny self…

The taste? DE LIC IOUS . So good. Super fudgy and VERY SWEET! Man, did these satisfy my sweet tooth! They were also really moist and very chocolatey, and VERY RICH.  It’s going to be hard not to eat all of these myself, which is why I can either be generous and

1.Share these with my friends
2. (the more likely option) freeze these and eat at a later date (which will more than likely be as soon as the fresh ones are consumed).

Overall? 4 1/2 stars. I wouldn’t exactly count these as health food in my opinion, given the 22 grams of sugar per serving just in the mix, but they are really delicious and worth a try! I do think they are a bit too sweet, but that just may be me!

Have you ever tried these brownies? How would you/did you eat them?

Oikos 0% Superfruits Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

I won an awesome contest hosted by Oikos, and got some free coupons to try the Oikos yogurt. I ended up picking up a new flavor I never tried before, Superfruits. This yogurt had pretty impressive stats, with 0 grams of fat, and 13 grams of protein per cup, and only 130 calories.

I put mine in the freezer for 30 minutes or so, and when I took it out, the top had a slightly hard texture. Peeeeeeerfect. It was just the way I liked it, because I could break it and then stir it up so it was one cool and creamy treat.

The yogurt itself was very thick, I was actually surprised just how creamy it was! Even the white yogurt on top had a slight fruity and sweet taste to it, and wasn’t completely plain. The fruit part on the bottom was jelly like but also slightly bumpy in consistency. There were no fruit chunks, like I normally would find with say a strawberry or blueberry. I don’t mind pieces of fruit, so either way I was fine with it. It was sweet, and had a really fresh, fruity flavor, with a kind of tart, raspberry tasting flavor.

Overall, I really liked it! I would definitely get it again, even when my coupons run out (:  4  1/2 stars

1 cup is 130 calories, 0 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 16 grams of sugar and 13 grams of protein.

What’s your favorite fruit? Mine would be the apple 🙂

Any exuse to eat chocolate (and/or peanut butter) and I’m down. It’s obvious that when Enjoy Life offered me a bag of their new Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mega Chunks to try for free, I accepted without having to think twice!

These chunks are gluten free, dairy free, nut free and more. I don’t have any allergies (at least that I know of!), but I’m certainly up for trying all sorts of foods.

First when I took these out of bag, I would agree they are “mega”! Long and rectangular in shape, and a dark brown color.

I decided to try one straight from the bag. It was slightly bitter, but with a smooth melt-in-the-mouth chocolatey taste. I believe I even tasted just a hint of vanilla.

Next, I thought I would bake peanut butter cookies with these Mega Chunks added in. Here’s what they looked like in the oven

See how big the chunks were!

And here’s one fresh from the oven…

What I really liked about these, was that they kept their shape even after being baked. They didn’t melt or become “lost” in the cookie. They still had a teeny bit of a bite to them, while still have the ooey-gooey goodness of a chocolate chip – just bigger!

Overall, really good! I couldn’t tell the difference between these and the chocolate chips I usually use. They were sweet, chocolatey, and love that they kept their shape! I would use these again! 4 stars

What’s your favorite type of cookie? Besides the usual peanut butter & chocolate chip, I REALLY like White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies!

Biscottis. I’ll admit they never were my favorite type of cookie (can I label it as a cookie?). For arguments sake, I’ll say they never were my favorite type of sweet treat. I’d always prefer an ooey, gooey chocolate chip cookie or a chocolatey brownie, so I’m not sure what compelled me to buy these. Perhaps it’s the fact that cashews are one of my favorite types of nuts, or that I happen to be a fan of Sahale Snacks.

Either way, they sounded pretty good, and the nutritional facts and ingredients were Lisa- approved as well. I ended up buying one of the big bags at the store,  and here’s what a few of them looked like out of the bag

Upon first bite, I noticed a nice crunch. Not super hard, so crunchy it hurts to chew, but a good crunch. The first thing I noticed about the flavor was vanilla. What’s the name of these again? Vanilla cranberry cashew? I thought to myself. Close, but not quite. Pomegranate Cashew was more like it.

These were sweet, with a light toasted flavor. I wouldn’t say I could really detect pomegranate flavor, it was more like just a fruity, slightly sugary sweetness, even with a mild apple flavor. There was also a hint of saltyness that I detected while eating these.

As for the cashew aspect, I would assume the white pieces in the crisps were pieces of cashews, but the flavor really wasn’t there. I wouldn’t be able to say that it was a cashew flavor without being told it was cashews, but knowing there was cashews in the crisps, I could state that there was a mild cashew flavor.

However, don’t get me wrong. These are pretty tasty. Love the sweetness and the unique flavors, even though the flavors promised aren’t very prominent. The portion size is also quite decent. Overall? 3 1/2 stars

Are you a fan of Biscotti? What’s your favorite flavor or brand?

I spotted something new in my freezer this afternoon, something I haven’t had in a while. French Fries! I decided to give these a try with some broccoli and vegetarian style chicken nuggets for dinner.

I cooked them up for about 15 minutes or so,
and here’s how they looked once transferred to my plate.

And a close up with a bite taken

can you see the spots of grease on the plate? and minuscule broccoli remnants (:

As I stated before, these were certainly greasy, so napkins are recommended.  They cooked up nicely, with crispy edges and a potatoey filling. There was mostly a yummy potato flavor, with a kick of peppery flavor at the end. They really weren’t that salty, despite the 470 mg of sodium per serving either. They actually really reminded me of curly fries that I used to get at school when I was younger, but these had more of a cripsy-ness to them.

The bag states they are “skin-on potatoes” but I’m not really sure exactly what that means, and they tasted like standard fries to me. I did like that the portion size was pretty good for 3 ounces, and I got a good amount of the fries filling up my plate. However, they were kind of lackluster for me. I would probably eat them again, but wouldn’t go out of my way to buy them. 3 stars

yea. that is my finger in the bottom right. FAIL ):

Last day to enter this totally awesome giveaway!

Along with the delicious Cinna Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter I won a little while ago, my 2nd jar I won was the Bees Knees from Peanut Butter & Co.

One thing I noticed about this peanut butter was that it wasn’t vegan. I remember seeing a vegan label on some of the Peanut Butter & Co.’s peanut butter, which made me curious as to why this one wasn’t. After doing some research, I saw that honey wasn’t vegan! Who knew! (If anyone knows for sure, please correct me!)

Onto the peanut butter. In a word? It was….Delicious! Thick, smooth, and very peanut buttery. It had little granules in it,  along with a pleasant sweetness from the honey. I like that you can taste both the honey and the peanut butter. I had mine directly from the spoon (when does that not happen?), but I think it would be AWESOME on a peanut butter and banana sandwich! (kind of like the Elvis sandwich!!)

I even thought the label was cute- the monkey looks like a bee!

Overall, really tasty!  It was a tad high in sugar, but not too terrible. I would definitely buy this one in the future 4 1/2 stars

2 Tbsp is 180 calories, 14 grams of fat, 12 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 8 grams of sugar, and 6 grams of protein.

I think it’s safe to say I never had a freeze dried peach before. Sure, I’ve had strawberries and apples, and even bananas freeze dried before, but a peach? I was up for giving it a try- I mean why not? I really liked Crispy Greens Crispy Apples and Crispy Asian Pears, and the Fruitzio Freeze Dried Apples & Strawberries.

I tried some of them dry first. Here’s what a piece looked like.

They were light, crispy and at first I thought, wait, what fruit is this again? But as I continued to chew, the sweet flavor of peaches flooded my mouth. It was very tasty, and had that sweet, juicy flavor.  I liked how they were big slices of peaches rather than little pieces as well.

Next I decided to try them in my cereal in place of my morning banana with almond milk. Here’s what it looked like

Even after sitting for a few minutes, they kept a nice crunch and great flavor. Next time I think I might actually break the slices if I use it again in my cereal, as they were a bit big. As I said before, I liked them big when I was eating them dry, but in the cereal I think pieces would be more convenient. Still, nothing I couldn’t very easily fix. They were still sweet, and complimented the almond milk and my cereal perfectly.

Overall, I’m an official fan of freeze dried peaches! They were unique, sweet and crunchy, and very enjoyable. I would try these again. 4 stars

Gotta love simple ingredients!

Contest ends June 10th, 2011, 12 PM. Open to United States Only.

I was craving something carby for dinner (me? crave carbs? never (; ), so I decided to try the Glutino Chicken Pizza with BBQ Sauce I bought the other day at my Whole Foods trip. I really liked the Duo Cheese and Spinach & Feta pizzas that Glutino made, so I thought this one would be good too.  I set the oven to 375 degrees and let it cook while I steamed up some broccoli on the side.

Here’s how it looked frozen- there wasn’t a ton of cheese, and the crust was thin.

The pieces of chicken looked small, so I was a bit skeptical at first.
However, I found that they were just hidden underneath the cheese!

And here’s how it looked out of the oven

1 word. YUM.

I took a bite, and instantly fell in love. I honestly didn’t think I was going to like this as much as I did. It was AMAZING! The crust was crunchy yet soft, and there was a good amount of BBQ sauce on the pizza. The BBQ sauce itself had a tomato based flavor, and was sweet at first, but certainly left a bit of spice lingering. There was a good amount of cheese, which I liked because I personally am the type of person who would pull off the cheese on a slice of pizza (haha don’t hate me!!). The chicken was in small chunks, which were juicy, flavorful and chewy, but in a good way.

Honestly, this pizza rocked. I am SO buying it again, even if that means driving all the way to Whole Foods to get one (or 3…). Everything worked together, and tasted wonderfully together. I felt like I was eating something that tasted like it was from a restaurant, and I liked that the nutritional information was pretty good as well! This one deserves it – a 5 star rating!

What’s your favorite kind of pizza besides traditional cheese and sauce? I think this one is MY new favorite!

nutritionals and ingredients!
