Although I have already done a review of Zevia soda in the past, I’m doing another. And guess what? A GIVEAWAY TOO!

For those of you who never heard of Zevia, here’s some info about it from the website “ZEVIA is the first all natural zero calorie soda. With only pure ingredients, ZEVIA contains none of the chemically processed artificial sugar substitutes, artificial flavors or artificial colors found in other diet sodas. ZEVIA is all-natural, has zero calories, zero net carbs, zero fat, and little or no sodium (depending on flavor).”

Zevia was even mentioned in the September issue of O magazine!

Well? Let’s get started! =)

I opened up the Ginger Root Beer first. Ah, a crisp, good flavor. Can definitely taste some of the ginger. It wasn’t super sweet, but rather just the right amount. I also loved that there was no caffeine in this flavor! 4 stars

Next up, Lemon Lime Twist. So refreshing! Also, not too sweet, but just the right amount. Also a really good blend of both lemon and lime flavors. Perfect to drink on a sunny, warm day! 4 stars

Next, Cola. This one was a bit sweeter, and not as carbonated/bubbly as the other flavors. It had sort of a cola syrupy taste to it, but was enjoyable. Went perfect with my dinner of pizza & steamed broccoli! 4 stars

Moving on to Orange- This one had a delicate yet tasty flavor. It was mildly sweet, with a tiny bit of zest to it. Yummy orange flavor! 4 stars

Next up, Dr. Zevia. Yum! I really liked this one. A good about of sweetness, and light cherry flavor. There was just a little bit of a zing or spice to it as well. It wasn’t super carbonated/bubbly, which I liked, and was quite tasty. This one gets 4 1/2 stars

Black Cherry- my other favorite, this one had a good amount of sweetness, was bubbly, and I could certainly detect a black cherry flavor. Refreshing! 4 1/2 stars

1 winner (United States Only) will win ONE SIX PACK of assorted flavors of Zevia!

Hansen’s Natural Cane Soda The Grove

Author: Healthnuttxo

I’ll be honest, I’m not a big soda drinker. I prefer water/flavored water, juices or milk for my beverages, but every now and then I DO get a craving for and iced cold soda.

So, I was excited when I was given some soda from Hansen’s, like the Hansen’s Natural Cane Soda in The Grove flavor. According to the can, this has “no caffeine, no preservatives, no caffeine, no sodium” and has “all natural flavors”. Sounds like my kind of soda! 🙂

First of all, I really liked the design of the can. It was very almost tropical looking, with leaves, and bright colors like pink, yellow and green. I’ll be honest- it was quite pretty!

So I opened up the can, and took a sip. At first I was a bit surprised, I actually expected it to be sweeter than it was, which actually I didn’t mind. It was very light and fruity tasting, with lemon-lime and strawberry flavors. I think it’s a really good soda for the summer because it is very light and refreshing. Overall, I’m giving it 3 1/2 stars. Although it’s not something I would drink everyday, I think it was a refreshing and very nice tropical tasting treat. 🙂

1 can is 140 calories, 0 grams of fat, 35 grams of carbohydrates, 34 grams of sugar, and 0 grams of protein.

Pure Triple Filtered Carbonated Water, Sugar, Citric Acid, Natural Flavors with Extracts of California And/Or Florida Limes and Lemons, U.S. Strawberries and Yumberries.

Amazing Grass makes some pretty awesome products, ranging from energy bars to drink powders. According to the website, “To help people lead healthier more active lives by achieving their full potential through better nutrition. We strive to educate the world by spreading the word about the amazing benefits of cereal grasses. Amazing Grass will spare no resources or expense to produce nutritionally superior products with the highest quality organic cereal grasses available anywhere in the world.” Awesome! 🙂

The kind folks over at Amazing Grass sent me the GREENSuperFood Lemon Lime Energy Drink Powder to try. I haven’t really tried many “energy” supplements before, as I feel that most of them have way too much caffeine. Here are some statements about this drink powder that I got straight from the container.

“-Infused with a kick of energy from yerba mate & matcha.
-A delicious drink powder to help you achieve your reccommended 5 to 9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables.
-Boost energy levels with natural stimulants
-Contains plant based caffeine
-Contains probiotics and enzymes to aid digestion and absorption
-Contains over 70% organic ingredients”

This stuff seemed pretty good!

I decided to give it a try. It reccommends mixing 1 scoop of the powder with juice, water or a smoothie. I chose water, because I wanted to get a feel for what it tasted like without being mixed with anything else. Upon opening the container, it smells like a lemon-lime soda, slightly tangy but still sweet. It was a sage green in color, with a “piecy” consistency once mixed with the water (which, by the way, the mixing process was very easy. I didn’t have to use a blender or anything- just a spoon). I took a sip of my drink, and it had a mild lemon/lime flavor. Slightly sweet, but more sweet than I had expected. By itself, I would give the taste 3 stars with water. I reccommend trying it with juice or a smoothie like Amazing Grass also reccommends, that way the taste can be even more enjoyable. However, as a product overall, I give it 4 stars. I love that it has natural ingredients, provides a little fiber and protein, and has 0 grams of sugar per serving.

1 scoop (7 grams), is 30 calories, 1 gram of fat, 4 carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 0 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Yogi and Celestial Seasoning’s Tea

Author: Healthnuttxo

Think it’s too hot for tea?

Well, even in the summer, it’s good to have a cup of tea every now and then. Very soothing, calming, and quite delicious if you pick the right ones! I was sent coupons to try a free box of tea from both Yogi and Celestial Seasoning’s, so I decided to pick some up for a review.

Now, keep in mind I drink my teas sweetened. I do NOT drink my teas as is, because I find them to be too bland or too strong. However, each tea I tried I used a little bit of Stevia to bring out the flavors.

We’ll start with Yogi- Of the flavors they had available at my supermarket, I decided to pick Berry Detox. It claims that it “supports healthy liver and intestinal function” on the front of the packet. I’m always down for anything that promotes good digestion! Plus- I love berries! So I picked this one.

This one smells really good. Even through the bag- refreshing and clean smelling. After I plopped a bit of Stevia in and let it sit, I took a sip. It actually had a very powerful taste! Sweet, but not overpowering, you could taste a berry flavor. I was surprised at how strong this tea actually was. I wonder if it would make a good “iced” tea, or if it would be good cold. Hmm… Anyway- I give it 4 stars.

Onto Celestial Seasonings tea, I decided to buy the Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride Herbal Tea. I know, I know, this is a holiday tea and probably is intended for Christmas-time, but anything with the word cookie in it has my attention! I actually did buy this one during that time, but I’m going to enjoy it year round!

First of all, the smell, is, SO GOOD! A strong sugary sweet vanilla smell escapes once this tea is brewed. Yum! After it was brewed and I added a touch of Stevia, it actually wasn’t as sweet as I had hoped. Still a sweet tea, but not as “sugary” sweet as I had hoped. Mostly a vanilla and even a bit of a milky flavor to this tea, it was very soothing and calming when I drank it at night. 4 stars

Overall, tea is great! I tend to like my teas cold (especially green tea sweetened with lemon!), but these are two good ones hot. I would give them a try if you like tea, they are worth it!

Berry Detox-Organic Ginger Root, Organic Fennel Seeds, Organic Hibiscus Flower, Organic Orange Peel, Yellow Duck Root, Organic Strawberry Flavor, Organic Rhubarb Root, Organic Honeybush, Acai Berry, Organic Raspberry Flavor, Organic Pomegranate Flavor, OrganicStevia Leaf, Emblic Fruit (Arnia) Extract (Tannins 35%).

Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride Tea- Milk thistle, roasted barley, orange peel, natural sugar cookie flavor with other natural flavors and vanilla bean.

KickinBerries Antioxidant Drink Mix

Author: Healthnuttxo

Goji,  Elderberry, Acai and Pomegranate- these 4 types of berries have quite the buzz in the health department, for all the nutritional benefits that they provide. Well, the folks at sent me 2 free samples from  of the KickinBerries Antioxidant Drink Mix, that combines all of these nutritious berries. (Read more about the health benefits of berries on their website) Their motto is “You bring the bottle, we’ll bring the benefits”.

I’m always on the lookout for yummy alternatives to water, but ones that are healthy and also provide health benefits. This seemed to fit the bill quite nicely!

When I got the 2 packets, I first noticed the size. These were HUGE! Think, double the size of a crystal light. And you pour the whole thing in one bottle of water (or juice, or anything you want, really)- that’s a lotta’ antioxidants 😉

I poured it into my water and noticed it changed into a nice deep purple/pink color. I took a sip- not too shabby! It was mildly sweet with tart aftertastes. I did notice it made my throat feel a little “phlegmy”, but not too bad. Overall, I would give this product 3 1/2 stars. I love the fact that it provides a nutritional punch combining the 4 berries, and is actually refreshing. I didn’t like that one of the ingredients was sucralose, and that it’s 25 calories per pack. I don’t think the flavor is strong enough to split the pack in half and use it for 1 water bottle, so you would probably have to use the whole packet. However, 25 calories a packet is a LOT better than the 100+ you can consume with certain juices or soft drinks, so that’s definietely a healthier swap!

1 packet is 25 calories, 0 grams of fat, 9 carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, less than 1 gram of sugar, and 0 grams of protein.

Acai, Elderberry, Pomegranate, Goji Proprietary Blend (1750 mg). Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Berry Flavor, Vanilla Flavor, Silicone Dioxide, Sucralose.

Dont forget to enter this awesome YOU BAR giveaway!! 🙂

Amazing Grass Kidz Super Food Wild Berry

Author: Healthnuttxo

Keeping up with my berry and fruity theme this week, I thought it would be appropriate to review a product sent to me by Amazing Grass, the Kidz Super Food Wild Berry .

One serving of this mix combines 32 fruits and vegetables that provides that antioxidant level of THREE servings of fruits & veggies. You simply mix it in water, juice, or a smoothie (it also comes in a chocolate flavor, that you can mix with milk!)

Seeing as the amazing nutrition punch this product packs, I decided to try it on a day I was feeling sluggish and just blah. I’m not one who likes to take medications , so I prefer more natural ways of helping or healing my body. I decided to just mix it with water, since I wasn’t home at the time and didn’t have access to juice (or a smoothie, for that matter). I put it in my water bottle and gave it a shake. It was green and dusty on top, and then the rest of the water was purple. I had a very curious glances my way like, “what on earth is she drinking?!?!” I’m not one to judge on color, so I took a sip. It was very, very mildly sweet- just a hint of berry flavor. It didn’t mix together perfectly, as it was still a bit piecy in the water.

I definitely reccommend using it in juice or a smoothie instead of just water, or maybe adding some stevia/sweetener if you want to use it in water. It wasn’t bad, though, taken for what it was. It’s an excellent way to boost your nutrition and fit in some powerful antioxidants. With water, I give it 3 1/2 stars based on taste, 5 for nutrition, for a total of 4 stars. It did make me feel SOO much better after- Really! My headache was gone, and I had more energy throughout the day. I think I might buy some in the future and try it in a smoothie or juice- if I do, I’ll let you know how it is!

1 packet (6 grams) is 21 calories, 0 grams of fat, 4 carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, and 1 gram of protein.

you GOTTA love the ingredients—> GREENS-organic wheat grass, organic barley grass, organic alfalfa, asparagus, lima beans, green peas, kale, kiwi, organic spinach, organic broccoli, brussel sprouts, green beans, zucchini ORANGES/YELLOWS-apricots, organic carrots, mangos, pineapple, sweet potatoes, tangerines, yellow squash REDS-organic yumberry, pomegranates, raspberries, guavas, cranberries, red cabbage, cherries, tomatoes, BLUES/PURPLES-beets, plums, purple grapes, blueberries, organic evaporated cane juice, organic inulin, organic oat fiber, natural flavors, organic guar gum, stevia, probiotics (L. Acidophilus) and vegetable juice for coloring (from carrots and hibiscus).

Skinny Water

Author: Healthnuttxo

Okay, Okay I know- these are not all natural or organic, and I normally do not consume artificial ingredients or sweeteners, but a person at Skinny Water asked if I wanted to do a review of some of Skinny Water’s drinks, and I decided to take the plunge (no pun intended!).

According to the website, they only use minimal amounts of sucralose (yay!), and also have no calories, carbohydrates or preservatives.  The color made for the water is also derived from natural sources, like fruits and vegetables.

The company sent me their flavors which come in Wake-Up, Total V, Crave Control, Shape, Hi-Energy, and XXX Detox. Think of these as zero calorie vitamin waters (except Vitamin Water actually does make zero calorie varieties now!). They are about the same size, and have cute sayings and health benefits for each.

Wake-Up-this one is a combination of orange, cranberry and tangerine flavors. It provides 250% of your daily needs of vitamin C too. This one was actually my favorite of all of them. It tasted EXACTLY like Sunny-D that I used to drink when I was little at the beach! Ah, nostalgia… Anyway- it was sweet and tangy, and really woke me up!

Total V-this one is a combination of lemon and passionfruit flavors. This one was my second favorite, as it had a real tropical taste to it. The passionfruit was delicious, and went perfectly with the lemon (not tart, but sweet!)

Crave Control- this one is a combination of raspberry and pomegranate flavors. I didn’t really like this one- it tasted watered down, and not really all that fruity. It also had a weird “fake berry” after taste.

Shape- this one is a combination of goji and fruit punch flavors. I also wasn’t crazy about this one, but it was better than the Crave Control. It did have a nice fruit punch flavor, but wasn’t really that sweet. I think it would be good if you liked lightly sweetened beverages (if you are used to those SUPER sweet drinks, I wouldn’t go for this one!)

Hi-Energy- this one is flavors of acai and blueberry. I enjoyed this one- no fake flavors, and I liked the blueberry undertones. Normally blueberry flavored things are gross in my opinion (unless they use ACTUAL blueberries, like in yogurt!), but this one wasn’t bad. I would dirnk it again!

XXX Detox- this one has peach, mango and mandarin flavors. Again, this one was not very strong in the flavor department, and was mildly sweet. In a way it was reassuring, knowing that since the flavor was mellow, my body wasn’t consuming too much of the artificial sweeteners I try to avoid. However, it was enjoyable, with  a light peach and mango taste. It reminded me of white tea in a way.

Overall, I give these 4 stars. I like how they aren’t OVERPOWERINGLY sweet, and that the only “bad” ingredient is the sucralose. The rest of the ingredients aren’t too shabby, and there are no artificial colors or preservatives. Give em a try, you might like them (Definitely try the WAKE-UP flavor, too! 🙂 )

1 water has 0 calories, 0 grams of fat, 0 carbohydrates and 0 grams of protein.

Dr. Zevia all Natural Soda

Author: healthnuttxo

* New Flavor Alert * !

You know me- Always on the hunt for the newest flavors, snacks & goodies for me to eat and for you to read about. Which is why I contacted Zevia, the all natural soda sweetened with Stevia, and asked them to try their new flavor, Dr. Zevia. They generously sent me their new flavor to try, and I was super excited. I have already reviewed (and loved!) their other flavors, you can check that out here.

Now, onto the taste.
Honestly- I did remind me A LOT of Dr. Pepper. This was good in my eyes, because growing up, I always liked Dr. Pepper, but it wasn’t a very popular flavor. It was always a treat when I got one, and I especially always remember drinking it while going out to eat with my mom at our local pizza place. So, this soda brought me back some memories too! 🙂

The flavor is a mixture of cola and cherry flavors, with a slight spice aftertaste. It sort of reminded me of clove or nutmeg, one of those spices you make pumpkin pie with. It isn’t very sweet, but more of a “savory” flavor. Like I said- it would go perfect with a piping hot slice of cheesy pizza or Amy’s Non Dairy Pot Pie (we love you, Amy’s!).

This one, by itself, also gets 4 stars. How awesome is a soda with zero calories, zero sugar, no artificial flavors/preservatives and has awesome taste? 😀  Zevia’s Dr. Zevia, Black Cherry, and Root Beer flavors are my favorite of Zevia‘s line. Which ones do you guys like?

1 soda is 0 calories, 0 fat, 15 carbohydrates (from Erythritol), 0 sugars, 0 fiber and 0 protein.

*According to Zevia, “Erythritol carbs have no calories or effect on blood sugar”.*

Triple Filtered Carbonated Water, Erythritol, Caramel Color, Tartaric Acid, Stevia Leaf, Fumaric Acid, 33mg Caffeine (from coffee), Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Citrus Oils, Nutmeg Oil, Clove Leaf Oil, Botanical Oil, Cassia Oil, Cherry Essence.

Zevia All Natural Soda and..GIVEAWAY!!

Author: healthnuttxo

I feel for you soda lovers. It’s either you go “all natural” and get the stuff loaded with sugar, or you go “sugar free” and you ingest a whole slew of chemicals, dyes and artificial sweetners. What’s a girl (or guy) to do when she craves the fizzy stuff?
Well, my friends, I HAVE THE ANSWER!
Zevia is an ALL NATURAL, ZERO CALORIE, soda! It has no artificial colors, dyes or sweeteners, and has no calories, carbohydrates and little or no sodium. It comes in 6 great flavors, Natural Cola, Natural Orange, Natural Twist, Natural Root Beer, Natural Black Cherry, and Natural Ginger Ale. It’s sweetened naturally, with Stevia, which is a natural herb found in South and Central America, and Erythritol, a natural sugar alcohol found in fruits and veggies. I get true peace of mind drinking this-it’s natural and TASTY!

So how do these babies taste? Welll…

Natural Cola– this one i legit thought was Diet Coke. It tastes pretty much exactly the same, maybe a wee bit more carbonated/fizzy than Diet Coke is (4 stars)

Natural Orange- This one had a mild orangey flavor. Rather than a strong orange flavor, it reminded me of a creamsicle. (4 stars)

Natural Twist– this one had a “cool lime” flavor. It tasted citrusy, and then had a cooling effect after drinking it. It was very refreshing! (4 stars)

Natural Root Beer-yummy! Once again, it could totally pass as A&W root beer! It was a little bit sweeter than the root beer I’m used to (or used to drink, rather), but i had my mom try it, and she enjoyed it. She is also Root Beer QUEEN, mind you. 🙂 (4 stars)

Natural Black Cherry- my favorite flavor by far. It had a deep black cherry flavor. It was so gooooooood! It was very bubbly and fizzy, so I drank half and put it in the fridge for an hour to let some of the caarbonation settle, but I like my soda mildy flat 🙂   (5 stars)

Natural Ginger Ale- tastes just like good ol’ natural ginger ale. It had a crisp taste, and i could taste just a hint of real ginger. I know Ginger Ale is commonly used when you have stomachaches- and after I drank this soda it actually did help my stomachache! (4 stars)

Overall, these ROCK. I’m giving them 4 stars as a whole. I’m going to be upset when I run out. There perfect compliment to a lunch or when you want some flavor and some jazz without all the sugar and the calories!

Each can has 0 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbohydrates, 0 fiber and 0 protein.
The ingredients in each can only consist of Stevia, Erythritol, Natural Caramel, Natural Tartaric Acid, Citric Acid, Kola Nut Extract,Natural Caffeine,Annatto, and Ginger Root.

I was lucky enough to recieve all of these flavors from the company and… YOU WILL TOO! FIVE lucky winners will get to try the new Zevia All Natural Diet Soda!
