Yes! It’s that time again- A GIVEAWAY!!! But first, a review of some tasty products!

Musselman’s Apple Butter-

Oh my goodness. This stuff is TOTALLY AWESOME! It was thick, brown and smooth, and had a great apple flavor. It was sweet, sweet like candy, and absolutely delicious. The cinnamon flavor was perfect, and I can’t even describe how tasty this was. I could totally (and did totally) eat it right out of the jar with a spoon. I can’t wait to stir it into hot oatmeal :)

This one gets 4 1/2 stars. Although it deserves 5 stars for flavor, and it is one of the most delicious products I have ever had, it  has both added sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup : ( But, it’s still really awesome, so it gets 4 1/2 stars from me! : )

Musselman’s Apple Cider-

First things first, the person I was with said for me to shake this up, and I advise you to do the same. It was a bit piecy at the bottom, but nothing a little shake of the bottle couldn’t fix. First I tried it cold, and it was sort of like a watered down apple juice. Sweet but didn’t have that apple-y kick I’m used to with apple juice. So, the person who told me to shake it, also advised me to have it warm.

Great idea! This was much better warm than cold. It was sweeter, and had a very pure apple flavor, sort of like squeezing the juice right from the apple flesh. Mmm. 3 1/2 stars

Now…. the GIVEAWAY!

I was given  the Apple Butter and Apple Cider by Musselman’s for free to do a review(how could I refuse!? I love apples!), and was given an extra Apple Butter and Apple Cider. So, what better way to spread the love then to host a giveaway!?!

Ah, that cute puffin I have grown to love on most of the Barbara’s Bakery products. It’s almost as if when I’m browsing the grocery store, I don’t have to look hard to find the Barbara’s Bakery products- just look for the cute puffin!

Well, today he’s feature on the Puffin Puffs Fruit Medley Cereal that I was sent to try from Barbara’s Bakery. According to the package, this cereal is “100% natural” and a “crunchy corn and oat cereal”, along with being “prebiotic”. Let’s hope it’s tasty, too! : )

I opened up the single serve bag, and saw a variety of shapes and colors- certainly not what I’m used to with the familiar puffin squares. There were yellow banana shaped pieces, orange orange shaped pieces, and purple pieces that sort of resembled either a flower or a bunch of grapes, I wasn’t really sure.

Anywho-

The taste sure was FRUITY! Almost a tropical feel really. Each piece sort of tasted the same, and all together, it reminded me of fruity-type cereals I have eaten in the past. The cereal was quite sweet overall, but not “sugary” tasting, which I liked. The texture was very airy, crispy and crunchy- even slightly sticky!

Overall, an enjoyable cereal. I’m sure kids will enjoy this cereal, and I thought it was quite good too. I’m giving it 3 1/2 stars overall. It was a bit airy for my liking, and I can’t really see it satisfying my appetite for long. I do like how there is 3 grams of fiber, and only 7 grams of sugar per 30-gram bag!

So, here’s a question you may want to answer…
What’s your favorite childhood cereal?
I think mine was Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch! :)

1 bag (30 grams) is 120 calories, 1 gram of fat, 26 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 7 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Well, there’s something I don’t hear every day. A Blueberry Muffin flavored bar! And an organic one, at that!

Organic Food Bar sent me some bars to try, including the Blueberry Muffin Crunch Bar.

So, I may have gotten a little, “blueberry muffin crunch bar happy” before I took a picture, because I opened the package and took a bite before taking the actual picture. Whoops! Well anyway, here’s a pic of what I got.

Now, onto the bar! It was a dense and chewy bar, that at first wasn’t that fruity tasting, but as I kept chewing, the sweet fruit flavors emerged. I can certainly taste blueberry, which I liked, which was mildly sweet and quite good. There was a bit of an aftertaste that I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was- it almost reminded me of a combination of a fig and flaxseed taste. I didn’t really like that part, but it wasn’t bad overall. I did like the little crunchy pieces that gave it some texture.

Overall, this gets 3 stars. I can’t say it really reminded me of a blueberry muffin. When I think of muffins, I think sweet, airy, fluffy and buttery. This was more like a blueberry fruit bar with crunchy pieces of nuts and such. I do like that it was organic, had 6 grams of fiber per serving, and was vegan as well!

What’s your favorite muffin flavor? If you’d like to answer, please leave a comment below :) !
I’m a fan of banana muffins, and double chocolate chip muffins. Yum!

1 bar is 180 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, 32 grams of carbohydrates, 6 grams of fiber, 14 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein.

Carrot Cake LARAbar

Author: Healthnuttxo

I know when the 4 new flavors of LARAbars came out I was excited. LARAbar generously sent me the 4 new flavors to try, and I couldn’t have been more excited. I mean flavors like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough? (which certainly was a hit for me!) Which brings me to today’s review, the Carrot Cake LARAbar, which was equally as delicious, and quite enjoyable.

Hunger struck the other day, and I wanted something sweet, satisfying, and yet on the go. I opened up the LARA bar Carrot Cake bar, which had an orange wrapper, followed by an orangey colored bar on the inside. Like most LARAbars, this one  was made with fruit and nuts, and was a bit calorically dense. However, I didn’t mind eating 200 calories in a small bar, for the flavor was delicious, and the nutrition facts were quite good as well. And, as an added benefit, this bar counted as ½ serving of fruit!

Onto the taste- while I can’t say it reminded me of an uber sweet carrot cake with cream cheese frosting- it was rather sweet and really enjoyable. There certainly was a carrot flavor, but a sweet carrot flavor. It was chewy, dense, and very moist. I couldn’t get over this sort of spice it had to it. What WAS that?, I thought as I chewed on this bar.  I guessed it was cinnamon, and after looking at the ingredients, I confirmed that indeed, it was cinnamon.

Overall, this bar gets 4 1/2 stars from me. Yes, it’s 200 calories for a rather small bar, but the flavor is quite intense and very good, so it’s well worth th 200 calories. Plus I feel good eating this bar, I know that those 200 calories are from heart healthy fats and natural sugars from fruit, rather than added chemicals or other artificial ingredients. Bravo, LARAbar!

1 bar is 200 calories, 8 grams of fat, 2 grams of saturated fat, 32 grams of carbohydrates, 24 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein.

Dates, Almonds, Walnuts, Raisins, Pineapple, Unsweetened Coconut, Carrots, Cinnamon, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.

Being the applesauce lover that I am ( I insist it’s not just for babies! =) ), how on earth could I turn down Musselman’s when they asked if I wanted to sample their new Healthy Picks apple sauce in GRANNY SMITH flavor? Obviously I didn’t! : )

What I like about Healthy Picks Granny Smith Applesauce  is that they are a bit different than other applesauces that I have tried. Aside from being all natural, this applesauce also has THREE grams of fiber and 10% of daily calcium needs per 4oz. cup! Fiber, calcium, and good taste? I’m loving that!

So, last night I opened up one of these cups to enjoy with my dinner. It was a normal colored applesauce, perhaps just a tad more green/yellow than what I’m used to. I was a bit scared or hesistant at first- even though apples are my favorite fruit, I’m really not a fan of Granny Smith apples. In fact, I really only eat them in two conditions. One- with peanut butter or Two- with a bland/unsweetened cereal and milk for breakfast. I usually find them too tart and even too crunchy for my preferences.

However, I tried this applesauce and really enjoyed it! I could certainly taste the granny smith aspect of it, but it really wasn’t tart at all! There was a good amount of sweetness as well, which I certainly enjoyed. The texture was smooth, yet still had a little bit of consistency which I liked. It had the consistency of a fruit sauce, not a super smooth puree.

Overall, 4 1/2 stars! I would most likely buy this if I saw it in stores. I really love the extra fiber and calcium, and it’s great taste. It’s mild enough to eat with a meal, but sweet enough to also eat on it’s own. Delicious!

1 4oz. cup is 70 calories, 0 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 10 grams of sugar and 0 grams of protein.

Alden’s Ice Cream Organic Strawberry

Author: Healthnuttxo

Growing up, I remember when I was little and my family would go out for icecream, I would very often get strawberry ice cream with peanut butter topping. An odd combination perhaps, but I loved it. I remember my favorite part of strawberry ice cream was the big chunks of frozen strawberries- delicious.

Well, I got a coupon to try a free ice cream from Alden’s Organic Ice Creams, and how could I pick any other flavor but strawberry? Would it be possible to re-live my childhood memories of strawberry icecream, with an organic ice cream?

Well, I took this container out of my freezer and immediately was pleased. It scooped out of the container relatively easy- which I was SO happy about. I HATE when I have to dig and dig at a carton of icecream because it’s so cold and hard, that it takes so much effort to get it out of the carton! It sort of makes me not want ice cream anymore! But- not the case here!

I slid the creamy ice cream in my mouth and thought now this is strawberry ice cream. Absolutely DELICIOUS. So pure tasting, the perfect amount of sweetness, and an awesome strawberry flavor. I just loved it. I even loved how I got an occasion strawberry seed which made this have a real, homemade feel. I also loved that I could taste the cream in this icecream. Just SO good!

Of course, ice cream isn’t exactly diet friendly, but if I’m going to eat ice cream, I want some real ice cream and this stuff is really good. This is getting 5 stars =)

What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream? If you’d like to answer, please leave me a comment below! =)

BettyLou’s makes Just Great Stuff Bars that come in four flavors, Organic Superberry Acai Bar, Organic Chocolate Dream Greens Bar, Organic Cocoa Acai Bar, and Organic Fruit & Veggie Bar. The nice folks over at BettyLou’s sent me them to try, and today I’m reviewing the Organic Superberry Acai Bar and Organic Fruit & Veggie Bar.

Both of these bars are rather sort of gummy and chewy in texture, and certainly remind me of fruit bars or fruity type snacks. According to the package, they both are organic, vegan, and gluten free.

Organic Fruit & Veggie Bar- This one was a dark brown/greenish in color with little pieces of what I believe are cashews scattered throughout the bar. It had a very mild sweetness, and I really couldn’t taste much of the “fruit” part of this bar, only really the “veggie”. It kind of reminded me of a wheatgrass flavored drink, and I could taste the spinach. I love the ingredients of this bar, but wasn’t too crazy about the flavor. 2 1/2 stars

Organic Superberry Acai- okay, now this one was TASTY! Great sweetness and great flavor. It was a dark red/raspberry color, again with scattered little pieces of cashews. I really enjoyed this one, and msotly had a raspberry flavor. Delicious!! 4 1/2 stars

Overall, not bad! I love the ingredients put into these bars, and love that they are organic, gluten free, and vegan! Although the Organic Fruit & Veggie Bar wasn’t a hit for me, if I ever see the Organic Superberry Acai Bar in stores by me, I would probably buy and eat it again! =)

Organic Fruit & Veggie Bar- 1 bar is 170 calories, 6 grams of fat, 23 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar, and 5 grams of protein.

Organic Raw Cashews, Organic Berry Blend (organic dried cranberries [with organic apple juice concentrate and organic sunflower oil] organic goji berries, organic freeze-dried raspberries, organic freeze-dried acai [with organic lime juice and/or citric acid]) Organic Dates, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Rice Protein, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Raspberry Flavor, Sunflower Lecithin, Citric Acid.

Figamajigs! I think this company is great- combining healthy fruit and tasty chocolate and other treats with their products.

The company sent me some of their products to try, including the Figamajigs Dark Chocolate Covered Fig Bar with Almonds. According to the wrapper, this bar is “all natural, low fat, high in fiber, high in anti-oxidants”. Sounds like my kind of a chocolatey treat!

The bar is 40 grams, and about the size of my two fingers in both length and width. It’s actually quite dense and chewy. There is a thin layer of chocolate on the outside, which I really didn’t know it was dark chocolate until I looked at the wrapper! It really wasn’t that bitter as I am used to having when I eat dark chocolate, and I was quite happy. The overall flavor is VERY fruity- you can certainly taste the fig! It has a rather piecy consistency, and sort of stuck in my teeth as I chewed it. However, I really enjoyed it! It’s sweet, chewy and quite enjoyable. The almond pieces didn’t really add or take away from the taste, and provided a very slight crunch if anything.

Overall, I give this 4 stars. I liked that it combines fruit and chocolate, and has 4 grams of fiber and 150 calories per 40 gram bar! It is, however, a tad bit high in sugar, but very tasty! =)

1 bar (40 grams) is 150 calories, 4 grams of fat, 28 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 19 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein.

Figs, Cocoa, Dark Chocolate (sugar, chocolate liquor processed with potassium carbonate, cocoa butter, butter oil), Soy Lecithin, Pure Vanilla, Sugar, Almonds, Invert Sugar, Canola Oil, Natural Flavor, Cream of Tartar, Salt).

HappyBaby/YoBaby giveaway ends Friday!**

Bananas, and chocolate? What a great combination. Now what about a frozen banana, covered with chocolate? COUNT ME IN! =)

The nice folks over at Diana’s Bananas sent me some of their chocolate covered bananas to try. The Banana Babies come in 3 varieties, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, and Milk Chocolate with Peanuts. Today I’m doing a review of the Milk Chocolate Banana Babies.

I opened up the box of Milk Chocolate Banana Babies and thought these are so cute! Each of them are about the size of half of a banana, with a thick layer of milk chocolate. The chocolate was sweet and creamy- melt-in-my-mouth consistency. Delicious! The banana part was sweet and soft, perfectly ripened, and went perfectly with the chocolate. Who knew a fruit could taste so awesome covered in chocolate?

One thing I did notice was that it was VERY hard coming out of my freezer. I let mine thaw a little bit, and found it much easier to enjoy. Overall, I give this 4 stars as it’s delicious, and a great way to get some chocolate and fruit, all at once! The perfect treat for me on a hot, summer day! =)

1 Piece (60grams) is 130 calories, 6 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 14 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein.

Banana, Milk Chocolate (unsweetened chocolate, sugar, milk powder, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, vanilla), Peanut Oil.

Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Bears

Author: Healthnuttxo

I’m in a fruit-snack mood today! :)

Yummy Earth sent me some products to try, including their Organic Gummy Bears. According to the package, these come in Pomegranate Pucker, Strawberry Smash and Sour Apple Tart. They are also “Made with Real  Fruit Juice” and have “100% Vitamin C”, as well as being “Gluten Free” and “Fat-Free”. SOunds like a good fruit snack to me!!

Each gummy bear is rather small, and they come in three colors, a red, yellowish color, and a pale orangey color. They were sweet, but rather chewy, almost dense in texture. The red gummy was the tartest, and had a berryish flavor. I would assume that that one was Pomegranate Pucker. The yellowish colored gummy bear almost had a citrusy flavor, and was a bit sour, so I would assume that it was the Sour Apple Tart. Lastly, the orangy colored gummy bear had a rather mild flavor, and was slightly sweet, so I’m guessing that was the Strawberry Smash.

Overall, these were good. I love that they are organic, and in my opinion, made with pretty good ingredients! I do wish they had a bit of a softer texture and weren’t as chewy, but overall, pretty good. I give them 3 1/2 stars! : )

*Do you like gummy bears? What’s your favorite color/flavor? If you’d like to answer, please leave a comment below!*

25 grams(about 10 bears) is 88 calories, 0 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbohydrates, 10 grams of sugar, and 0 grams of protein.
