Seeing as I really enjoyed the Nature’s Path Peanut Butter Panda Puffs, I was sure I would like the Peanut Butter Crispy Rice Bar that I was sent to try as well!

There’s yet another cute panda on the package of the bar, which made me feel like a kid all over again =) . The organic bar is also gluten free.

I opened up the package, and saw a brown colored bar, and a lot fo pieces that resembled puffed rice. The bar was a bit sticky, and held together quite easily. It was soft, airy, and chewy, and  not too salty tasting. It didn’t really have a savory peanut butter flavor, but kind of reminded me of a sweet peanut butter flavor, rather than the type I would eat from the jar. There was also a slight molasses flavor.

Overall, I would give this 3 1/2 stars. I consider it a rather light snack by itself, and think it would be good for those days I might not be hungry, but want something to eat. I do like that it’s organic, gluten free, and a decently sized bar for only 110 calories!

1 bar (28 grams) is 110 calories, 3 grams of fat, 20 grams of cabohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 7 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Organic Brown Rice Flour, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Honey, Organic Peanut Butter, Organic Invert Cane Juice, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Soy Oil, Organic Acacia Gum, Sea Salt, Organic Molasses.

Nature’s Path Organic Whole O’s

Author: Healthnuttxo

Nature’s Path is a brand that really has never let me down. I think they make delicious and healthy products, and have a LOT to choose from!

I was sent a box of the Whole O’s to try from Nature’s Path. Along with being organic,  this cereal is gluten free. I wasn’t really sure what to make of this cereal (before I tried it). There was only 4 grams of sugar per serving, so I wasn’t expecting a sweet cereal, and gluten-free products have sort of been a hit or miss for me.

Anyway-

So, according to the box, these were “Crunchy O’s of Organic Corn & Whole Grain Rice”. I opened up the box and saw little brown pieces of cereal, in the shapes of circles.  I tried a few by themselves and thought, WOW! I certainly agree that they are “crunchy”! I wasn’t really expecting them to be so crispy and crunchy! They had sort of a toasted flavor to them, and tasted like brown crispy rice cereal. They were airy and had just a bit of sweetness at the end. I tried them in milk next, and was still impressed. I chopped up a granny smith apple and had this cereal with some almond milk and was very happy.

Overall, I wasn’t expecting to like these as much as I did. The ONLY thing I was really disappointed about was that a serving size is 2/3 of a cup, and I wish it was a bit bigger, as I like to eat a lot of cereal : )  Otherwise, a winner in my eyes, and really good nutrition facts, too!  4 1/2 stars

2/3 cup is 110 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 4 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein.

Organic Brown Rice Flour, Organic Corn Flour, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Pomegranate Juice Concentrate, Sea Salt.

GRANOLA! One of my favorite things to eat (which if you are an avid read, I’m sure you know that already! :) ).

So today’s granola review is Nature’s Path Organic Vanilla Almond Flax Plus Granola, sent to me generously from the people at Nature’s Path! : )

So I opened up the bag, and discovered a lot of rolled oats, a good amount of tiny flaxseeds, and little slivers of almonds. This looks pretty good! I took a handful and discovered that this granola had a light vanilla flavor. Really quite light actually. I sort of wish that it had a deeper vanilla flavor, as I certainly am a fan of vanilla! I also discovered that it had a very mild sweetness- so I did actually wish it was a little bit sweeter as well.

What I did like about this cereal was that according to the box, it was an “excellent source of Omega-3″ and “Contains 0.9 g of Omega 3 per serving, which is 69% of the reccommended daily value of 1.3 g”. That’s really awesome! I know sometimes it’s hard for me to get all of my daily reccomended value of Omega 3’s, so this may be a good option for me!

Overall, this cereal gets 3 stars. I also did like that a serving is 3/4 of a cup, and that it had 5 grams of fiber per serving. Woo-hoo! : )

3/4 cup is 250 calories, 9 grams of fat, 36 grams of carbohydrates, 10 grams of sugar, and 6 grams of protein.

Organic rolled oats, organic evaporated cane juice, organic soy oil, organic brown rice flour, organic flaxseed, organic almonds, organic oat syrup solids (organic oat syrup solids, tocopherols), natural vanilla flavor, sea salt, organic molasses.

Presenting… one of the BEST granolas I have ever tasted! Nature’s Path sent me a box of their Organic Peanut Butter Granola to try, and all I can say is this is the yummiest peanut butter granola I have ever had (and I LOVE peanut butter!!)

According to the box, this granola is vegan, organic, provides 7 grams of protein per serving (3/4 cup or 55 grams), and is whole grain. I was so excited to try this- peanut butter? Granola? Organic? Let me taste it, please!! : )

The granola itself is softer than what I am used to, but still crunchy. There are also little peanuts scattered throughout the box, which I found quite enjoyable. It really added to the overall DELICIOUS, rich, and just a tad bit sweet peanut butter flavor this granola provided.

What really made me fall in love was that I got some “peanut butter chunks” in my box- as in melt-in-my mouth, soft, peanut buttery GOODNESS! They were quite big, too, and absolutely delicious. I was actually upset that there were only a few in the box, it was the best part!

Overall, this granola gets 5 stars. Seriously- if you are a fan of peanut butter, I HIGHLY recommend giving this cereal a try. The only thing stopping me from eating this straight from the box all day is that 3/4 of a cup is 260 calories, with 11 grams of fat. A tad bit high for my preferences for that portion size. Otherwise, this granola ROCKS!!!! : )

3/4 cup (55 grams) is 260 calories, 11 grams of fat, 35 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 9 grams of sugar, and 7 grams of protein.

Organic rolled oats, organic evaporated cane juice, organic soy oil, organic peanut butter, organic brown rice flour, organic roasted peanuts, organic oat syrup solids, sea salt, tocopherols (natural Vitamin E), organic molasses, organic rice bran extract.

Nature’s Path is one of my favorite brands when it comes to snacks, cereals, oatmeals, etc. I love that their products are made with wholesome, real ingredients. To me, Nature’s Path seems like a company that really cares about the food they make.

I was sent some granola bars to try from the people at Nature’s Path, including the Yogurt Lotta’ Apricotta and Yogurt Berry Strawberry Chewy Granola Bars. How could it get better than this? Organic, yogurt covered, whole grains, all in one? : )

Each bar is chewy and actually some-what dense. What I liked was that these had good “holding power”- meaning to me that they didn’t  fall apart SUPER easy, which I find can happen with hewy-type granola bars. They were still soft, of course, but held together quite nicely.

Lotta’ Apricotta- wow! What flavor! Quite unexpected and a unique flavor, but really tasty. It had a sticky texture, with a fruit, sweet apricot flavor. There was also a slight coconut flavor that I tasted which complimented the apricot flavor quite well. There was a light, yogurt drizzle that tasted like vanilla icing, and little chunks of almonds that also added a nice touch. Yum! 4 1/2 stars

Berry Strawberry- Also an awesome flavor! I liked that I could smell strawberry flavors as I opened my bar. This one was also very chewy and sweet with visible tiny flaxseeds. The strawberry flavor was really good- not too tart, but almost reminded me of what strawbery fruit leathers taste like. The yogurt drizzle also was really good- a light vanilla flavor that went very well with the strawberry flavors. 4 stars

Overall, these are really tasty! I love that they are organic and provide some whole grains per bar. I think I will use these as a pre-workout snack or maybe as a light breakfast on the go with some yogurt and fruit, as they are a little short on protein and fiber for me to be eaten alone. I definitely recommend these- very tasty, and worth giving a try!

Lotta’ Apricotta- 1 bar is 140 calories, 5 grams of fat, 23 grams of carbohydrates,12 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.

Berry Strawberry-1 bar is 140 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, 11 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.

Nature’s Path is definitely one of my favorite brands, especially when it comes to delicious cereals or granola bars. I haven’t met a product I haven’t  liked, and to add to my list of favorites is Nature’s Path Envirokidz Organic Peanut Butter Panda Puffs.

Well, seeing as I love peanut butter, I love cereal, and well, I love pandas!, how could I not  love this cereal? :)

The people over at Nature’s Path generously sent me some products to try, including a box of the Envirokidz Organic Peanut Butter Panda Puffs. This cereal is gluten free, and made with corn meal. Each “puff” is a small little ball, and orange-yellow in color. They are very peanut-buttery, too! Absolutely delicious! I tried a few of them dry, and with milk. They were crunchy, and had a slightly sweet yet salty peanut butter taste. I like how they stayed crunchy for the most part with my milk, and if you let them sit a little bit, they really absorb some of the milk and it creates an almost different experience.

One thing I did notice was that this cereal really “sticks” to your teeth! It reminded me of how when I eat a scoop of peanut butter or a peanut butter sandwich, how the peanut butter sticks to your mouth! However, it did not take away from the overall enjoyment of this cereal.

Overall, this cereal gets 4 stars. It’s very tasty, but the only down side is that a serving size is 3/4 of a cup, which is a tad small for me, and 130 calories per serving. It also doesn’t have too much fiber or protein, so I don’t think it will provide much satiety from hunger for too long. However, it was great with some milk or soy milk and some fruit. On the box they have a picture of a bowl with a sliced banana, which I will admit, was a very good combination. I think I will stick to this cereal as a snacking cereal more than a breakfast cereal, because I preferred the puffs dry over wet. :)

1 serving (3/4 cup) is 130 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 24 carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 7 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Organic corn meal, organic evaporated cane juice, organic peanut butter, organic soy oil, sea salt, tocopherols (natural vitamin E).

Perfect time for a Nature’s Path review, seeing as my GIVEAWAY for granola bars, granola, a box of cereal AND reusable tote is going on AS WE SPEAK (or, as you READ, rather). One of the granola bars a reader has a chance to win is the Mmmaple Pecan Flax Plus Granola Bar, which I was so kindly sent to review from Nature’s Path.

These granola bars come in several flavors, in different groups. The Sweet & Salty fans can try the Peanut Buddy, Mmmaple Pecan and Peanut Choco flavors, those of you who like yogurt bars can try Lotta’ Apricotta and Berry Strawberry, trail mix fans can try Sunny Hemp and Pumpkin-N-Spice, and chocolate lovers can try Chococonut.

Today, I’m reviewing the Mmmaple Pecan Flax Plus chewy granola bar. It has 10g of whole grains per serving, provides .33g of Omega 3’s per serving (25% daily reccomendation), is all natural, and organic too. I’m super excited, we all know I LOVE MAPLE SYRUP! (who doesn’t, really?)

Upon my first bite, my first thought really was Mmm! What a perfect name for this bar, “Mmm!” fits the bill!! It has a sweet, buttery taste to it, and reminded me of buttery waffles drizzled with maple syrup. Ohh..delicious. It was definitely more sweet than salty, but still provided a little salty flavor due to the pecans. I really liked how there were chunks of pecans, not just itty bitty pieces. It was a  nice “crunch” in the chewy granola bar, which provided more satisfaction. The maple-butter drizzle on top was the best part- rich and sweet. Why can’t companies SELL things like this on it’s own!? :)
On the down side, the bar is a little tiny (35 g), about the size of a Quaker Chewy granola bar, but a bit thicker. There also is 6 grams of fat and little protein for a bar that is 150 calories.

Overall, I give this bar 4 stars. It deserves 4 1/2 stars on taste alone, but considering that it didn’t really fill me up by itself, and is low in protein and fiber, it lost half a star. However, it really was delicious, and is perfect for a light snack with some yogurt or an apple! Don’t forget to enter the giveaway and try one of the new granola bars for yourself!! :)

1 bar is 150 calories, 6 grams of fat, 22 carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein.

Sandy Harris at www.diabeticsnacks.org has provided us with some health benefits Maple Syrup has to offer, and how it can help a serious disease, Diabetes!

“The Secret to Prevent Cancer and Diabetes with Maple Syrup

Are you looking for a natural solution to reduce the risk of diabetes and
slow down the growth of cancer cells?  Your search is probably over
because recent studies have shown that maple syrup holds the key to these problems. US researchers have found that maple syrup has the ability to
substantially decrease the risk of diabetes.

The syrup also showed great potential in slowing down the growth of
cancerous cells. Maple syrup has thirteen active antioxidant substances.
These antioxidants were previously unknown but were discovered only
recently.Because of these antioxidants, researchers have firmed up that
maple syrup has a great potential in fighting cancer growth, diabetes, and
infections.

An Effective Solution or Diabetes Sufferers

Considerable amounts of the phytohormone, abscisic acid, are found in
maple syrup. This acid is a powerful defense against diabetes and
metabolic syndrome, because it encourages the release of insulin through
pancreatic cells and enhances fat cells’ sensitivity to insulin.

Seeram revealed the results of his tests on Canadian maple syrup during
the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Francisco.

Maple Syrup as the Best Anti Cancer Food

A study punished in the Journal of Medicinal Food showed that maple syrup
can significantly inhibit the growth of cancerous cells. This study was
conducted by Quebec scholars. It seeks to prove the impact of maple syrup
against cancer cells.

Based on the Quebec research, the growth of cancer cells can be inhibited
by maple syrup. Specifically, the syrup is very effective against brain,
prostate, and lung cancer. Unfortunately, maple syrup has minimal impact
against breast cancer growth.

A Delicious Option in Fighting Cancer and Diabetes

The following is from a study titled: Antioxidant Activity, Inhibition of
Nitric Oxide Overproduction, and In Vitro Antiproliferative Effect of
Maple Sap and Syrup from Acer saccharum, published in the Journal of
Medicinal Food, and written by Jean Legault, Karl Girard-Lalancette,
Carole Grenon, Catherine Dussault and André Pichette:

Maple sap and syrup from 30 producers in three Quebec, Canada, regions
were evaluated concerning the time of harvest and abstract antioxidant
activity, inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) overproduction and the
antiproliferative effect of ethyl acetate extracts.

The harvest time does not have an analytically notable incidence on
antioxidant activity of either maple sap or syrup extracts. Their Oxygen
radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) values are 12 +/- 6 and 15 +/- 5 mumol
of Trolox equivalents (TE)/mg, respectively.

A cell-based assay also confirmed the antioxidant activity. The ORAC assay
was also used to establish the antioxidant activity of pure maple syrup.
The results show the pure maple syrup ORAC value of 8 +/- 2 mumol of TE/mL
to be lower than the blueberry juice value of 24 +/- 1 mumol of TE/mL but
similar to the strawberry juice value of 10.7 +/- 0.4 mumol of TE/mL and
the orange juice value of 10.8 +/- 0.5 mumol of TE/mL.

Lipopolysaccharide-induced NO overproduction in RAW264.7 murine
macrophages was considerably inhibited by maple sap and syrup extracts. It
is believed that transforming maple sap into syrup enhances NO inhibition
action, because the syrup extract was considerably more active than the
sap extract.

The maple syrup extracts induced the highest NO inhibition at the season’s
end, and the darker syrup was more active than the clear syrup. This
indicates that the activity could be partially attributed to some colored
oxidized compounds.

Maple syrup extracts (50% inhibitory concentration = 42 +/- 6 mug/mL) and
pure maple syrup have a discriminating in vitro antiproliferative action
against cancerous cells.

Nature's Path Instant Hot Oatmeal

Author: healthnuttxo

Ohhh how I lovee oatmeal. It really is the perfect breakfast food- you can play it up any way you want. Add fruit, peanut butter, yogurt, milk, maple syrup, chocolate chips… Or, even plain jane style with a pat of all natural butter and a sprinkle of sugar on top. It really warms and fills you up and gives you plenty of energy.

But- what about those days you just don’t have time to cook good ol’ Quaker over the stove top? That’s usually where Instant oatmeal comes in. Boil some water, pour, stir, enjoy. Or, for those of you who don’t have ANY time to spare (or you lazy-bones out there :P ), the microwave helps. However, usually instant oatmeal leaves me unsatisfied. The portion is tiny, the sugar content is high, and it’s just not as good.

So that’s why I was excited to try the Instant Hot Oatmeal from Nature’s Path. I love Nature’s Path and have done several reviews of their products- all of them with positive results. They are a brand I know I can trust to bring me delicious and nutritious foods that will sustain me and my grumbling tummy :)

Nature’s Path oatmeal comes in several varieties, but I tried the Maple Nut, Apple Cinnamon and Multigrain Raisin Spice that comes in the variety pack. It also comes in Flax Plus, but I have yet to try that flavor. What I was first happy about was that each packet has more than traditional oatmeal packets have. The Nature’s Path brand provides 50g of oatmeal as compared to 30g that I normally see. You can tell it gives you more too when you pour it in the bowl- a nice change.

Maple Nut- first off, this oen smelled awesome. You could literally smell the maple syrup through the packet, and I looooove Maple Syrup! When I poured the water the sweet maple smell also came through even stronger. I couldn’t wait to dig in :) There was also actual pieces of hazel nuts in the oatmeal. Not too many, but it added an unexpected bit of flavor. It was the right amount of sweetness-not too sugary and was actually pretty satisfying given it was instant oatmeal. 4 stars

Apple Cinnamon- Growing up, Quaker Apple Cinnamon was always my favorite flavor. I just loooved the little bits of apples (and would often eat them all before my mom even poured the hot water in the bowl!). Which is why I was slightly disappointed with this one. There were only a few apple pieces, and it wasn’t really that sweet. It was very smooth texture wise though, not as “blobby” as instant can sometimes be. To jazz this one up a bit, I added some raisins and some stevia and it was perfect. All it needed was a little boost :)   3 stars

Multigrain-Raisin Spice- I wasn’t sure I was going to like this one. It wasn’t just oats after all- it was wheat flakes, raisins, corn meal and oat flakes all together. But I gave it a shot, and I am glad I did! It was my favorite of the 3, and the sweetest :) I looved the raisins, they were nice, plump and juicy. The oatmeal actually thickens up quite nicely if you let it sit a little bit, and was more hearty than regular oatmeal.  The “crunchy” wheat flakes added some texture as well. It reminded me of an oatmeal cookie in a bowl. Definietly goign to buy this one again and again. 5 stars

Overall, a pleasant experience with Nature’s Path Instant Hot Oatmeal. I’ll give it 4 stars all together. They provide you with a little more sustenance than traditional instant oatmeal, and are really good paired with some toast & peanut butter or jam, some fruit, or both for a nutritious breakfast (or pre-workout meal like I did!!). I want to try more of their flavors, like the Optimum Brand in Cranberry Ginger. Yum!

Maple Nut & Apple Cinnamon- 1 packet is 210 calories, 2.5-4 grams of fat, 38-40 carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 5 grams of protein.

Multigrain-Raisin Spice- 1 packet is 180 calories, 1 gram of fat, 39 carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein.

Maple Nut-Organic rolled oats, organic evaporated cane juice, organic hazelnuts, natural flavor, sea salt.

Apple Cinnamon-Organic rolled oats, organic evaporated cane juice, organic dried apple, organic cinnamon, sea salt, natural flavor.

Multi-grain Raisin Spice-Organic rolled oats, organic wheat flakes, organic evaporated cane juice, organic raisins (coated with organic sunflower oil), organic brown rice flour, organic corn meal, organic cinnamon, sea salt.

Hey you know what goes good with oatmeal? APPLESAUCE! enter this giveaway now!!

Also- how do you like your oatmeal? rolled oats? Instant? What’s your favorite brand!?

Nature's Path Gluten Free Sunrise Cereals

Author: healthnuttxo

Nature’s Path is one of my favorite brands. They dish out awesome cereals, granolas, toaster pastries and snack bars. They even have a line dedicated to those of you who cannot have gluten or choose to avoid it in the diet

Anyway, I was asked to try their new organic Sunrise Cereals which come in Crunchy Maple and Crunchy Vanilla flavor. These cereals are a blend of flax, rice, corn, buckwheat, quinoa and amaranth. No barely, oats, rye or wheat in these babies! Each serving of cereal also provides 15 or more grams of whole grains and  contains 11% of the daily reccommended intake of Omega-3. I’m liking this cereal already, and I haven’t even opened the box! :)

Crunchy Maple- ahhh. Open the box and a pleasant smell of maple enters your nose. I do love maple :) The cereal as a whole is indeed crunchy. There are little balls  and little tiny pieces of cereal that resemble puffed rice. The flakes were my favorite of the mix of grains, as they were the sweetest and crunchiest. Eating the cereal as a whole, you definietely taste the maple. It’s lightly sweetened and went well with my Yogurt, and stayed crunchy throughout.

Crunchy Vanilla- Similar in consistency and texture to the maple variety, this cereal was also enjoyable. It had an airy and light feel to it, and was tasty right out of the box. It was a little sweeter than the maple flavor, and had a nice vanilla bean flavor. The sort of vanilla flavor that you taste in vanilla icing, but no where as sweet.  Best of both worlds!

Overall, i really enjoyed these cereals. I do not have Celiac’s disease, but I will still buy these, Gluten Free or not. Overall, i’m giving these 4 stars for taste and nutrition. I would have preferred a bigger portion size ( 1 serving is 2/3 of a cup) and I like to have a little more fiber for sustenance (there are 3 grams per serving). But overall, these are definietely worth your time and money to check out!

1 serving ( 2/3 cup) is 110 calories, 1 gram of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein.

Maple-Organic whole grain corn meal, organic evaporated cane juice, organic brown rice flour, organic yellow corn flour, organic inulin, organic quinoa puffs, organic maple syrup, organic flax seeds, natural maple flavor, organic buckwheat flour, organic quinoa, sea salt, organic amaranth, organic molasses, tocopherols (natural vitamin E).

Vanilla-Organic whole grain corn meal, organic evaporated cane juice, organic brown rice flour, organic yellow corn flour, organic inulin, organic quinoa puffs, organic flax seeds, natural vanilla flavor, organic buckwheat flour, organic quinoa, sea salt, organic amaranth, organic molasses, tocopherols (natural vitamin E). Produced in a facility that uses peanuts, tree nuts and soy.
