Green Goo 100% All Natural Deodorant

Author: Healthnuttxo

Green Goo…what exactly is Green Goo? This is an all-natural deodorant that is herbally infused, that aims at not only being gentle on the skin but also high performance. According to the box, it does not contain petroleum, paragons, propylene glycol, phthalates, mineral oil, or any artificial ingredients/fragrances.

I am skeptical about natural deodorants, I will admit. I am skeptical about deodorants in general. I work hard, I am gone for most of the day, and I definitely sweat when I am at the gym. So I need something that’s going to work as hard as I do, in terms of preventing sweat stains and odors.

I decided to give this a try before some cardio and weight lifting session at the gym. Risky for a first try, but we did it. Not exactly sure why it is called “Green Goo”, bc it is neither green nor “gooey”,,, but let us proceed.

It was a bit “pasty” going on, and left a very mild white residue on arm pit area, that dissipated quickly. It wasn’t exactly “easy” to apply, you really had to rub it on, and since it was such a small tube I felt I had to “cover my arm pit” a few times rather than just a simple swipe with a traditional style of deodorant. I wore it all day and did not use any other type of deodorant. I did not experience any sweat stains or odors, which in my opinion was pretty dang awesome. Also, no irritation.

I gave it another try on a different day. This was a very stressful day, mentally moreso than physically. I noticed the deodorant did not hold up as well on this day. Definitely sweat more (probably induced from stress-related hormones!) and I noticed I needed to re-apply so odor did not peak through.

I tried this again on a third day, and had a similar experience. Mild sweating, and mild odor breakthrough that required re-application. I also used this after shaving, and definitely had irritation. So if you do use this, I would advise waiting a bit to apply if you shaved.

So overall, I had some inconsistent feedback with this particular product so I am not sure how I feel about it. One day it worked great, but other days it failed to provide the protection and sweat-fighting abilities that I really need in a deodorant. For that reason, I will give it 3 stars.

Just Granola Products

Author: Healthnuttxo

Hi there!

Today we are reviewing one of my favorite things… granola. In yogurt, out of the box, in bar form, UGH LOVE IT. I could eat it all day. I won’t…because it’s usually loaded with sugar…but here’s hopes to Just Granola filling the void for granola, that is both healthy and nutritious.

Note: If after this review you decide you want to try some, you can head over to the website and first time customers get 20% off with code “launch20”.

So a little backstory, Just Granola offers a variety of products, bars and actual granola, and some of the products are made without animal products, gluten or nuts. This appeals to a wide variety of people, whether you have to go gluten free or you are vegan. (note: some of their products DO contain nuts/animal products. AND- These products ARE made in a facility that processes gluten, nuts and animal products. ALWAYS Read the label!)

First up, the Peanut Butter Granola bar. BOY WAS I PUMPED FOR THIS.
Healthnuttxo fans will know…by now…hopefully…that I am a nut butter addict. So now combine my favorite food (spread? I mean it’s technically peanuts…) with granola?!?! Let’s get to it.

NOTE: THIS BAR CONTAINS PEANUTS, WHEAT/GLUTEN.
It was a Chewy and dense bar, little bit of cinnamon flavor to it. Did not taste much peanut butter to it to be honest, which is sort of disappointing for a peanut butter granola bar. It tasted more “oat-y” and “cinnamon-y” than “peanut butter-y”. I just made those words up so…follow along! 🙂 It wasn’t *bad*, it just wasn’t exactly my favorite. A bit on the bland side, and really not enough of a peanut butter punch that I need in order to be satisfied with a peanut butter product. 2 1/2 stars.

1 bar is 3 servings (which is SUPER easy to eat when it looks like a cookie!) at 130 calories, 6 grams of fat, 16 carbs, 2 grams fiber, 6 sugars and 4 grams of protein.

Next up, the Oat & Raisin Granola Bar.

Got this pic from their website ^
This one is made without nuts, gluten or animal products ( but is made in a facility that uses these ingredients so be careful!)
I liked this one better than the peanut butter bar. It was chewy, and again, had a nice cinnamon flavor. It wasn’t too sweet,  but with the raisins gave off an oatmeal raisin cookie type of feel. It was soft, but had like a very “toasted” almost slightly “burnt” flavor to it that was predominant. However, not bad. 3 stars.

Lastly, the oh so delicious, Apple & Cranberry Granola.  I had just a tiny bit of this after having my wisdom teeth taken out and LET ME TELL YOU, it was such a tease, because after an extraction you are not supposed to have any foods that may “get stuck” so I had to patiently wait until I was fully healed to enjoy the rest of the bag! The cinnamon flavor (again) is strong but really works here. It was a sweet and “soft” granola, as in, not crispy./crunchy which I guess is due to not using tons of oil.
It had a nice honey flavor as well, and sweetness was provided from bits of dried apple and cranberry.
I also detected a nice, light brown sugar flavor.
It was really quite nice straight from the bag. I actually didn’t eat it any other way. I demolished this straight from the bag 🙂
4.5 stars

One serving is 100 calories, 3.5 g fat, 15 carbs, 7g sugar and 3 grams of protein.

Overall,
I think the products are worth a try. I am a granola fan, and I like the idea behind these products. I also liked that they weren’t overloaded with fat or added sugars. Always a plus in a my book!

Note: I received these products for free from the company. This is an UNBIASED review.

So if you live an active lifestyle like I do, aches and pains are inevitable. You commute, you have a heavy bag or backpack, that shoulder and trap area will be sore. You run? Maybe you have shin splints. You lift weights? Maybe you went a little too hard and strained a muscle.

There are plenty of pain relief products on the market. Pills, patches, etc. How often do you find one made with NATURAL ingredients? Not very often.

In comes Zim’s Max-Arnica. It is a roll on “gel” that you apply to minor aches, bruises and sprains/strains. It contains Arnica Montana (plant), Aloe Vera , Calendula Officinalis (plant), and Bellis Perrenis (plant).

There is NO animal testing with this product.

So I like that this is a roll on. I have used pain relief gel before with menthol and such in it, and not only does it STINK, but you have to get it all over your hands, and then wash very thoroughly to be careful not to get in your eye. This is not to say you shouldn’t wash your hands after using this to prevent eye contact with Zim’s, but less chance of exposure using the roll on.

IMG_4505

I also liked the roll on feature because it helps you really work into the muscle. If you have bruising I would probably apply gently, since it probably is very sensitive.

First things first, make you sure shake it well! I was rolling it a bit and realized nothing was coming out…LOL whoops!

I applied this to two areas, my shins (shin splints) and the outside of my Glute after a strain at the gym. I do a lot of heavy squats and I think I tweaked it just a bit.

There is no smell which is a plus. It had very, VERY mild cooling sensation. But it is gentle. It doesn’t not burn intensely like some of those other pain relief products do.

As for my pain? I didn’t notice a drastic difference but I do think it helped provide some comfort, moreso with my Glute strain than on my shins. I have sensitive skin and am happy to report there were no side effects.

Overall? A 3 star rating. It’s not SUPER intense, but provided mild relief without utilizing synthetic pain pills or medications. Nature only!

Telula Organic Juice

Author: Healthnuttxo

IMG_9608

I got some samples from a company I have not heard of before, called Telula. They make organic, NON-GMO, and not from concentrate juices made from fruits and vegetables. They are cold pressed and also are free of added sugar.

They sent me some fun flavored samples to try, in Spicy Lemon, Green Zing, and Coconut Citrus.

Let’s start with Spicy Lemon, which has 3 lemons, 6.5 peppers, and 5 teaspoons of honey in each bottle. Honey is technically sugar, so if they add that to juice, I am a little confused how they can claim no added sugar. Perhaps they meant no CANE sugar, but honey is glucose…aka sugar.
Anyway, this bottle had 70 calories a serving, 17 carbs, 16 sugars, and 0’s across the board for fat, fiber and protein.

This one was actually really good! It is like a tangy lemonade, with the slightest bit of heat, but also sweet. It is very clean and refreshing tasting. I was definitely afraid of this because of the name…I think a more appropriate name would be Zesty Lemonade or something along those lines, because I certainly wouldn’t pick this up in store based off the name alone. However, the taste is delicious! The heat from the peppers leaves a little lingering flavor on your tongue as well. 4 stars.

Next up, Green Zing. This one has 5 spinach bunches, 1.5 cucumbers, 2.5 ginger roots, 1 apple, 2 heads of kale, 1/2 a lemon, and 2.5 celery stalks in one bottle. Dang!! It has 90 calories per 8 ounce serving, with 23 carbs/20 grams of sugar.

This is so, so, SO good! I wish I could drink this all day. It is sweet, much sweeter than I expected, and you can very slightly taste the celery. It is super refreshing, which I think might be from the cucumbers, and tastes like apple juice a bit as well but not as “sugary” tasting and not as tart. This is the best juice I’ve ever had, and you cannot taste the vegetables! A great juice for kids who won’t eat veggies…just don’t tell them it’s in there! 5 stars

Lastly, Coconut Citrus + Chia.  This one has half a coconut, 2 carrots, 3/4 of an orange, 1 lemon, 1 apple, and 5 tsps. of Chia. This has 120 calories per 8 ounce serving, with 1.5 grams of fat, 23 carbs, 5 grams of fiber, 17 grams of sugar and 3 grams of protein. This one was my least favorite. It was a little tangy, and thicker than any of the other juices. It had coconut flavor, but a bit of an over powering carrot flavor too. The lemon also definitely shines through here. I am not big on consistency in liquids…I don’t like pulp in my OJ and I do not like bubble tea…so the Chia seeds aren’t my favorite. I don’t like “chewing” my drinks.  This almost reminds me of a slightly fruiter V8 tomato juice. Not a huge fan. 3 stars

As a diabetic, I really do not drink juice unless my blood sugar is low. So I may buy a bottle to keep on hand in my fridge, but I will not be drinking on a regular basis. However, I really enjoyed these, ESPECIALLY the Green Zing one, so they are worth a shot!

Brittle hair, dry hair, thin hair…dry skin, flaky skin…weak nails, brittle nails….all SO not fun! Genetics, diet, medication, and the weather play a huge role on the condition of your hair, skin and nails. The people over at Seabuck Wonders offered me to try their Ultimate Hair, Skin and Nails supplement with Biotin and Omega-7 for free to see if it would help any battle I was facing!

I have dry hair from time to time, but it does get oily at the roots. My nails are in good condition, but I do get hangnails. My skin, however, gets very dry in the winter, and I moisturize constantly.

This supplement contains Omega-7, which according to the pamphlet Seabuck Wonders sent me, helps promote moisturized skin, a healthy GI tract, and helps support proper inflammatory responses. The Omega-7 comes from Sea Buckthorn, which has Omega 3, 6 and 9 as well, over 190 phytonutrients, 10x the Vitamin C content of oranges, 3x the Vitamin A content of carrots, highest Vitamin E levels among fruits, and much more. You can read more about this here.

Here’s what they look like. You are instructed to take 2 a day. IMG_8873

The pills are squishy/soft coated and easy to swallow. However, they repeated on me, and the taste was really unpleasant. I think it needs some sort of enteric coating to avoid that flavor…if you’ve every taken non-enteric coated fish oil pills, you know what I am talking about!

As for results? I didn’t see anything significant, but I also did not see any negative side effects. It did not hurt my sensitive stomach, make me break out, or anything like that. I can’t really say it helped my hair, skin, or nails, because it was only taken for a month. I think supplements need to be taken for longer periods of time to see real results.

So with that said, 3 stars. I think this product is promising, and I would have liked to keep using it. However, at $35 for a month supply, it is a bit steep for my budget.

Celsius sent me some of their “Fat Burning Beverages” and the Flo Fusion Berry Pre-Workout to try. According to the website, drinking 1 beverage a day can help burn up to an extra 100 calories.  However, if you read the disclaimer on the bottom, it states that people who drank Celsius also participated in proper dieting and exercise, and those who drank the Celsius had better results than those who did not.

I am skeptical if it actually burns extra calories or not, and the beverage also states it is not intended for weight loss without diet or exercise. Anyway, let’s get on to the taste!

I got 3 flavors to try, Sparkling Wild Berry, Peach Mango Green Tea, and Sparkling Cola. All 3 of them had clean energy. No extreme jitters, and mood was elevated. However, it was nothing special. It was a “mild pre workout”, if you will, and I think would be good for someone who doesn’t take those harsh powdered pre workouts all the time, or drinks a lot of caffeine. The two flavors that were intended to be carbonated, were VERY mildly carbonated..almost flat. I don’t know if that was intentional, or because they got banged up in the mail.

The Sparkling Wild Berry was OK. It was not super sweet, and I could tell it was sugar free. It was a blend of like raspberry/blueberry flavors. The Peach Mango Green Tea was not carbonated at all (intentionally). It had equal peach and mango flavors, and did not scream green tea. Again, it was lightly sweetened, but pretty good.

The Cola had a pretty flat coke flavor. It tasted like a commercial Cola, but a lot less sweet, and again, lacking carbonation.

Overall, these were unimpressive. I like that they are Aspartame free, as well as HFCS free, but the flavors were OK and the energy level was mild. 3 stars

IMG_6286

Moving on to the pre-workout, these came in stick form with powder. Again, claims to burn up to 100 extra calories, and has been enriched with vitamins. All you have to do is add it to water, or a beverage of your choice (non  caffeinated). I had a friend try this, who drinks pre workout every day for the gym. He stated 1 packet was mild, and he ended up using 1.5 packets the following workout. He stated it was a mild pre workout, not that intense. There was no pump, and he felt no increase of strength, or that drive he normally feels while on his other pre workouts.
IMG_6287

The flavor…is delicious though. It tastes almost like a watermelon berry, and has a good amount of sweetness. I really enjoyed the flavor.

Again, 3 stars.

Alrighty! So I got Doctor’s Best EstroG-100 Menopausal Support Supplement to try courtesy of the company, but…I am NOT going through menopause (that would be kind of evil in my 20s, right?…actually it’s rather evil in general!). So, I passed this supplement along to a person who is going through menopause and is a very trust source. She experiences hot flashes, irritability, mood swings, and night sweats. As a disclaimer, she was already taking Black Cohosh supplement and did not want to discontinue it. So these supplements were taken at the time time.

The bottle contains 30 pills, and you take one per day. They are NON-GMO and Gluten free.

IMG_2668

According to the bottle, they provide “Relief from hot flashes, helps [to] manage mood & energy swings, [and] helps [to] alleviate night sweats and promotes restful sleep”.

She has been on the supplement for almost a month. She claims the pills are easy to swallow, despite their semi large appearance, and do not repeat on her or cause any GI distress.

Has she still had hot flashes? Yes, but she said they have decreased in intensity. Not frequency, but the intensity has decreased. This is a good thing!

Has she still had irritability? Yes, she reports still being irritable and having mood swings.

Has she had night sweats? Yes, but she said they have also decreased in intensity.

Has she had relieved sleep? No, she reports no change in sleeping patterns (but she has always been an anxious sleeper, and this can’t really be blamed on menopause alone).

Overall, I asked how many stars would she rate the product out of 5, and she said 3. It did help, but not to an extent she had hoped for.

So, if you are going through menopause, perhaps this supplement is worth a try! Menopause is never a fun thing, so if you know someone going through it, maybe offer an extra hug or an extra cookie will help alongside a supplement too 🙂

So I’ve seen these Simply 100 yogurts on the shelves from Chobani, and they appeal to me, since they are lower in carbs and sugar. I am a Diabetic, so I try to limit the amount of carbohydrates I consume.

PEACH is one of my favorites from the Original Chobani line of greek yogurts, so I saw this flavor in the Simply 100, and definitely wanted to give it a try. Here’s what it looked like:

IMG_1005

You can see it’s a bit “milkier” than typical Chobani. I’m used to that firm greek yogurt on top when I take the lid off, looking all smooth and perfect, until I stick my spoon in it that is!

However, this yogurt was still plenty creamy and thick, typical of Chobani fashion (a good thing, I might add). I was essentially imagining this to taste like the original, which is also non-fat, but it did not live up to the original. It was TART! I can’t tell if it was tart due to the fruit not being in season (but it is almost summer…) or the fact that there was an artificial sweetener (Stevia) added rather than sugar, and the tart overpowered the sweet…

Either way, they could probably get away with renaming this Apricot yogurt. I noticed some evaporated cane juice was added, but not a lot, seeing as only 6 grams of sugar, and some of that sugar is natural fructose from the peaches and lactose from the yogurt itself. So 6 grams of sugar? Good. Tart peaches? Not so good.

On the bright side, quality is always there for Chobani. Real fruit, fresh fruit, and fresh fruit often means seasonality comes into play. However, I think there should  be a bit of tweaking with the sweetener to peach ratio, as these dang things were TART! I might try it again…but then again I might just stick with the original Peach Chobani and eat the extra 40 calories.

3 stars

Hello!

I got some  yummy treats from Uncomplicated Foods to try for free called Tali-O Bites! They are these bite sized treats made from organic dates and other flavors, to make for a healthy snack. They come in 3 flavors, Powerfully Peanut, A Hint of Almond, and Double the Coconut. All 3 flavors are gluten free, vegan, non GMO, soy free, and free of added sugars, according to the package. The Double the Coconut and Hint of Almond flavor are also paleo friendly.

As you can see, they are tiny!

I tried the Double the Coconut flavor first. These were soft and chewy, and had a sweet and fruity taste. You can certainly detect the fate flavor. The coconut flavor was prominent, but I wouldn’t say it was “double” in terms of flavor strength. I am assuming the powder on the bite was some type of extra coconut flavor. There were tiny pieces of nuts that gave it a teeny crunch, which was nice and added texture. These were really yummy! I used them pre workout early in the morning (I’m talking 5 am…) for a boost since it was too early for me to eat a full breakfast. 4 stars

Next up, Hint of Almond. This one was not my favorite of the 3, but it was still good.  Almond was not the first thing I thought of when eating these, however. It had a sweet taste to it, but moreso tasted like an almond butter after-taste. It was soft and chewy, and had a rather peculiar flavor that is a bit hard to describe. Almost like if you took almond butter and dates and made it into a chew with teeny nut pieces. Overall, 3  stars.

Lastly,  Powerfully Peanut. This flavor was my favorite! It had a yummy peanut flavor and was mildly sweet. THere was a hint of coconut flavor and almost tasted a little like vanilla. They were soft, dense and chewy. Very good! Definitely want more of these!

Overall, these are good! I do not have or know the nutritional facts, but I do have the ingredients for Double The Coconut listed below.

I got some goodies!!! Nutiva sent me some yummy coconut treats to try, and Numi sent me a variety of some organic teas! I thought the idea was cute, since teas and “cookies” often are paired together 🙂

Let’s do the coconut treats first. These treats were individually packaged, and teeny! About a third of the size of my palm each. The hemp & chia coconut treat was yummy. It was lightly sweetened, but still had a nice sweet flavor to it. It reminded me of one of those macaroons you could buy at a bakery, but a lot less sweet. It was very soft, with a predominant coconut flavor, and a vanilla aftertaste. If you don’t enjoy piecy coconut consistency, this would not be for you! The little bite was also rather dense and chewy. As for chia or hemp flavor? I didn’t really detect much, but I wasn’t really complaining because it was still good. 4 stars.

Next up, the classic flavored. This one was also good. I found it to be a tad bit more dry than the other treat, but it wasn’t as flaky/piecy as the hemp & chia flavor. It was also dense and chewy, with a yummy vanilla flavor. I could definitely taste the cane sugar syrup that was used, or the tapioca syrup, but it wasn’t as if it was in excess to where it was gross. I am just familiar with those flavors, and thought it went nicely with the coconut. Overall, I liked it! 4 stars

Next up, the teas! To be fair, I did NOT sweeten any of them or add milk, etc. I had them straight up! First, the Jasmine Green tea. Gotta say, not my favorite. The Jasmine predominated the Green tea flavoring, and was quite strong. The smell was also quite strong, and it almost tasted exactly how Jasmine smells, if that makes sense. However, I passed this tea along to another tea lover, and she loved it, BUT she loves Jasmine. So, safe to say, you may enjoy this one as long as you like Jasmine. I wouldn’t drink it again, but it’s just not for me. Based on both of our ratings- 3 stars

Next, the Moroccan Mint! This one I thought I wouldn’t like, but really enjoyed! It was soothing, with a very faint minty flavor, almost like a peppermint. It was enjoyable, and reminded me of sleepytime tea with the flavoring. Like I said, the mint flavor, VERY subtle, so one a 1-10 scale, 10 being very minty, it was around 1.5. Which I liked! I thought it would be overpowering but was pleasantly surprised. 4.5 stars

Lastly, I got to try the Breakfast Blend Tea. I do not have a picture of this one, however, I can say it was also quite delicious.  I thought it might be harsh since it was a black tea, but it wasn’t at all. Not to say it was light in flavor, but it wasn’t bitter or overpoweringly strong. I let a friend try this one, and she ended up drinking the whole dang box on me! Guess she liked it 🙂 4 stars

OVERALL, enjoyable! Kudos to Nutiva and Numi. Now I have to ask, what is your favorite flavor of tea?
