Seattle Chocolate Company chocolates

Author: Healthnuttxo

Time for one of my favorite reviews… Chocolate!!! I got some yummy goodies by Seattle Chocolates. They also sent some cute little tubes of coffee flour, cocoa nibs and cherry pulp which was awesome to see, as it is what makes up this delicious chocolate.

Super Chocolate Dark Chocolate Truffle Bar by Seattle Chocolates. This one is “powered by coffee flour & cocoa nibs” , Non-GMO, vegan, gluten free, and Rainforest Alliance Certified.

Upon opening, the aroma of chocolate is extremely strong, and quite delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever had such an overwhelming chocolate aroma by opening up a wrapper before! It is a dense chocolate, but softer on the inside (the “truffle” aspect, I am assuming). The taste is quite good- definitely a dark chocolate, but not super bitter. While it isn’t a melt in your mouth kind of chocolate (that’s the nature of dark chocolate), it is enjoyable, and I am not a huge dark chocolate fan. It has a semi-sweet sort of feel, kind of like when you pick the morsels out of cookie dough when making homemade chocolate chip cookies. It is sweet, but not overpoweringly so. I really enjoyed this!

4 stars.

1/2 bar is 190 calories, 15 grams of fat, 17 carbohydrates, 12 sugars and 2 grams of protein.

Next up, the Jcoco Chocolate (also by Seattle Chocolate Company). I was given two, the Noble Dark, which was 72% dark chocolate with cocoa nibs, and the Arabica Cherry Espresso in Dark Chocolate. I liked that when I opened each package, there were 3 mini bars inside, all individually wrapped, with fun pictures on each one. On the back it says “one bar= one serving to one in need” , where various donations are made, which you can read more about here.

Both bars are all natural, non-GMO, vegan, and gluten free. The box the chocolate comes in is on 100% recycled paper, and the products are Kosher. Talk about win-win-win for anyone with restricted needs trying to find some yummy chocolate, that ALSO is for a good cause!

First up, the Noble Dark. Make no mistake, this was definitely a dark chocolate. A tad on the bitter side for me, but honestly, I still liked it. And let me repeat, I am NOT a dark chocolate fan. The cocoa nibs added a nice crunch and some texture to the chocolate. Again, not a melt in your mouth chocolate, but still good. Definitely a strong cocoa flavor, but tasted so fresh and pure, with mild sweetness.

3 1/2 stars

Next up, the Arabica Cherry Espresso in Dark Chocolate. This one definitely had a nice cherry undertone to it, which provided both sweetness and a nice flavor. This chocolate seemed to be smoother, and more “melty” in consistency. Not as bitter as the other 2, and a tad sweeter. I really liked this one. My favorite of the three.

4 stars

Overall, some pretty darn good chocolate. What’s better than satisfying a chocolate craving, while also giving back to those in need? Plus with dark chocolate, you get a little antioxidant boost that the news, etc. always raves about. Win-win! I would definitely give these a try, even if you are a milk chocolate fan like I am, because they are worth it, and please check them out if you like dark chocolate, you will not be disappointed!

All right so I have some new stuff to try from Zims! I recently reviewed another pain relief product of Zims, which was pretty good but overall nothing special.

First I tried the Max Freeze Patches which have both lidocaine and menthol. I was sent a tube of six patches in medium size which are 3 x 5″ each. They are individually wrapped and also come in extra large large and medium.

First, I put it on my neck. It is easy to unwrap and apply. I had a bit of a stiff neck, and it seemed to help. It was mostly cooling, but really make my neck feel less stiff. The patch stays on, and the odor is low, and it doesn’t linger or smell. The patch does not fall off easily which was a plus, and left no irritation.

The patch was also used on lower back and my knee and was effective on both of those as well. It doesn’t really have a heat sensation mostly just cold or cooling but no burning or irritate. it did a good job of loosening up and/or relieving some pain in the areas. It wasn’t AS STRONG as other patches I have tried but I actually prefer these, because I did not get any irritation.

4/5 stars

Next, we have the Zims Max Crack Creme.  The main ingredients in this is aloe and arnica extract. I constantly have dry hands because I wash them all the time due to taking public transportation or because of the nature of my profession. Also with winter approaching my hands get extra dry and take an extra beating. This cream was lightweight, non-greasy, and smelled pretty good. It had almost a floral scent but very very mild and smelled “natural”. It smoothed out my dry hands and made them soft and supple with no irritation. 4/5 stars

Overall, these products worked great for me! Definitely worth a try 🙂

These products were given to me for free from the company. This is an unbiased review.

ToGoSpa Face Mask and Eyes

Author: Healthnuttxo

img_5092

Hey!

So I got some pretty awesome facial products from ToGoSpa.

I tend to be on the minimal side when it comes to makeup and facial products. 1) I have no clue how to buy or use makeup. 2) I have super sensitive skin so I tend to stay away from face creams, products, etc.

However, I was offered to try some of these products, including the Face Mask and “Eyes” by To Go Spa, and was told they were perfect for all skin types. So I decided to give it a try.

The face mask gave me a chuckle, I will not lie. It reminded me of the movie Mrs. Doubtfire with the mask and the cutouts for the face. However, once I took it out of the package, the “cutouts” of the face were easily moldable to my face.

img_5095

So the facemask feels a little weird on, you can’t really talk, and have to stay a little still cause it does slip a little bit. It feels kind a little wet jellyfish on your face or like some type of Jell-O, since it is both “gooey” but “stiff”.

Once I put it on I kind of smoothed it out on my skin that way it fit and it does stick well for the most part. You have to keep adjusting it a tad because it does slip off unless you are laying  completely  flat for about 30 to 45 minutes. I was doing computer work while using it… I’m a busy grad student!

When I took it off, my face felt clean and “tight”, but moisturized. It felt smooth, and smiled great and fresh. The next time I use this (came in a pack of 3 for me), I will take full advantage of the “soothing” properties and lay down and RELAX!!!

img_5093

For the under eyepatches, they came in 4 varieties. Coconut, Pomegranate, Green Tea, and ICE. Here is the back of the Pomegranate package.

img_5094I put them all pretty much in the refrigerator and then as I needed one, I would pull them out and put it on. You can observe the patch above, the thicker portion of the crescent goes medially, by your nose, and then it fans out. They do slip a bit while using, due to gravity, but easily adjustable (but better used laying down).

Like I said, I am in grad school so I get very little sleep and I will say that the patches definitely helped my under eye circles when I was looking really puffy.

Obviously there’s no miracles being worked here, you are putting a cold compress on, and you’re constricting the blood vessels underneath your eye reducing the puffiness, but have this benefit of it having all these other soothing ingredients for your skin.

I have sensitive skin and I haven’t had any problems when I use the products and I will say decrease some of the puffiness/left my skin looking fresh.

Overall, I like them! I think the eye patches are handy to use before going out, or if you pull one too many all nighters and need something that sticks and is soothing for those under eye puffiness.I liked the feeling of my skin after using the face mask. Smooth, and fresh! 4 stars.

Love Our Nuts Raw, Whole, Natural Almonds

Author: Healthnuttxo

img_4941

Nuts are one of my favorite snacks. There are only a few things that I crave when I am insatiable (despite eating enough) or in a mood where I want something crunchy and satisfying. I LOVE the sweetened (honey roasted…) versions of nuts, and typically I go for roasted or salted.

Love Our Nuts has some gluten free, raw, whole and natural nuts. You can get 2 lbs for only 13.99 which I think is a STEAL seeing as these small cans of nuts at the store is 6-7$. If you aren’t a fan of raw, you can totally roast and flavor these yourselves!

They are a hard and crunchy nut, fresh, and bursting with flavor. There is no salt, and they are not roasted. Typically, I prefer roasted/salted nuts, but I cannot lie, these are yummy! I tend to prefer roasted because the raw almonds are usually “soft”, and I like a crunchy nut in order to be satisfied. However, these were really good!

They are smaller than most almonds I have seen, the shell of the almond doesn’t fall/flake off, and you don’t miss the salt. They almost have some type of SUPER mild “vanilla” type flavor, which must be the natural almond flavors shining through. I like them.

I think these would be great in a trail mix, with some sweeter components, such as raisins and some chocolate. They are plain, but have that “real” flavor. Unadulterated, nothing added, almonds. Can’t argue with nature. 4 stars

AC Lens product reviews

Author: Healthnuttxo

IMG_2397

Hi there!

I got some awesome products to try from AC Lens. They have almost everything you could need for your eyes, including contact lenses, solutions, dry eye remedies, and more. I was sent a few products to try out.

So let’s get started! I suffer from dry eyes, so I chose some dry eye remedies, alongside daily contact lenses. I wear contacts now, and I can get about 3 hours out of them before my eyes start to get unbearably dry. I was hoping these products could provide me some relief!

First up, GenTeal Severe Eye Gel Drops. The retail value is $11.95. The gel itself comes in a squishy tube, kind of like a mini toothpaste tube. The gel comes out slowly, and the tip comes to a point to which you literally have to squeeze the gel into your eye. It’s a bit odd, I wish they could formulate a way to make the application a bit easier. I know people who HATE putting eye drops in, since it’s so close to their eyes, and with this product you have to literally almost be on top of your eye.

That being said, the product works great. You cannot use it with contact lenses in, so I used it at night. It relieved my dry, sticky eyes and provided instant comfort for hours. Really a great product for dry, sensitive eyes. 4 stars.

Next up, Thera Tears Nutrition for Dry Eyes supplement.  The retail value is $14.95, which isn’t bad for fish oil. This supplement contains fish oil, flaxseed oil, omega-3’s from multiple sources, with a total of 1200 mg per serving (3 capsules). The soft gels are rather large, but easy to swallow. I ended up taking 2 in the morning, because I found that since they are not enteric coated, you get the “fish oil” burps afterwards, which I dislike about fish oil supplements. However, as a plus, it doesn’t last all day, like I have experienced with other fish oil supplements. IMG_2402

IMG_2403

Honestly, I’ve been using the product for about a month, and I think my eyes are perhaps slightly less dry, but nothing drastic. I think further use is necessary to notice a significant change. However, as a plus, my skin seems clearer! Overall, 3 1/2 stars. Fish oil has a lot of positive affects on the body, but it is a blood thinner, so check with your doctor to see if this is right for you.

Lastly, DAILIES AquaComfort Plus contact lenses by Alcon. A 30 day supply values at roughly $22.99. I actually liked these! They were comfortable to put in, and did not bother my eyes. Sometimes I find with contact lenses, they do not fit comfortably and you have to throw out a pair. You never want to wear anything in your eyes that causes discomfort!

I will not lie, my eyes did require eye drops, as they got dry by the end of the day, but I must say I was pleased with these. They were not dry upon putting on my eyes like some contacts often do for me. They fit comfortably as well. They were a bit harder to take out than other brands I have tried, but this isn’t really a huge deal. Overall, very pleased. 4 stars

Overall, some great products. I will definitely be ordering from AC Lens in the future. The products are affordable, and it’s a one stop visit for your eye needs 🙂

Telula Organic Juice

Author: Healthnuttxo

IMG_9608

I got some samples from a company I have not heard of before, called Telula. They make organic, NON-GMO, and not from concentrate juices made from fruits and vegetables. They are cold pressed and also are free of added sugar.

They sent me some fun flavored samples to try, in Spicy Lemon, Green Zing, and Coconut Citrus.

Let’s start with Spicy Lemon, which has 3 lemons, 6.5 peppers, and 5 teaspoons of honey in each bottle. Honey is technically sugar, so if they add that to juice, I am a little confused how they can claim no added sugar. Perhaps they meant no CANE sugar, but honey is glucose…aka sugar.
Anyway, this bottle had 70 calories a serving, 17 carbs, 16 sugars, and 0’s across the board for fat, fiber and protein.

This one was actually really good! It is like a tangy lemonade, with the slightest bit of heat, but also sweet. It is very clean and refreshing tasting. I was definitely afraid of this because of the name…I think a more appropriate name would be Zesty Lemonade or something along those lines, because I certainly wouldn’t pick this up in store based off the name alone. However, the taste is delicious! The heat from the peppers leaves a little lingering flavor on your tongue as well. 4 stars.

Next up, Green Zing. This one has 5 spinach bunches, 1.5 cucumbers, 2.5 ginger roots, 1 apple, 2 heads of kale, 1/2 a lemon, and 2.5 celery stalks in one bottle. Dang!! It has 90 calories per 8 ounce serving, with 23 carbs/20 grams of sugar.

This is so, so, SO good! I wish I could drink this all day. It is sweet, much sweeter than I expected, and you can very slightly taste the celery. It is super refreshing, which I think might be from the cucumbers, and tastes like apple juice a bit as well but not as “sugary” tasting and not as tart. This is the best juice I’ve ever had, and you cannot taste the vegetables! A great juice for kids who won’t eat veggies…just don’t tell them it’s in there! 5 stars

Lastly, Coconut Citrus + Chia.  This one has half a coconut, 2 carrots, 3/4 of an orange, 1 lemon, 1 apple, and 5 tsps. of Chia. This has 120 calories per 8 ounce serving, with 1.5 grams of fat, 23 carbs, 5 grams of fiber, 17 grams of sugar and 3 grams of protein. This one was my least favorite. It was a little tangy, and thicker than any of the other juices. It had coconut flavor, but a bit of an over powering carrot flavor too. The lemon also definitely shines through here. I am not big on consistency in liquids…I don’t like pulp in my OJ and I do not like bubble tea…so the Chia seeds aren’t my favorite. I don’t like “chewing” my drinks.  This almost reminds me of a slightly fruiter V8 tomato juice. Not a huge fan. 3 stars

As a diabetic, I really do not drink juice unless my blood sugar is low. So I may buy a bottle to keep on hand in my fridge, but I will not be drinking on a regular basis. However, I really enjoyed these, ESPECIALLY the Green Zing one, so they are worth a shot!

Modern Oats All Natural Oatmeal

Author: Healthnuttxo

Mmmm oatmeal!!! Who doesn’t love a nice bowl of oats? Even though “winter” by me is unseasonably warm, I still could go for a nice bowl of oatmeal any day!

Modern Oats sent me some samples to try for free of their on the go, individually portioned and flavored oatmeals.  I got 6 flavors- 5 Berry, Nuts and Seeds, Apple Walnut, Goji Blueberry, Chocolate Cherry and Mango Blackberry. All of these sounded exquisite!!

All flavors are Gluten and GMO free, Vegan, and bursting with whole grain goodness.

I was most excited about the Apple Walnut, so I decided to try that first. IMG_7261IMG_7262

Here is a pic of it before I added the boiling water:IMG_7263

And here is a picture of the oatmeal after I left the cover sit on it for 2-3 minutes as directed:IMG_7264

How did it taste? Honestly, for 17 grams of sugar, the sweetness was lacking. It was very lightly sweetened, mostly from the baby apples. The brown sugar seemed to stay at the bottom even though I mixed it. It was chewy, and I think it needed a bit more water than recommended. Once stirred, more brown sugar came to the surface, as well as raisins, which provided some sweetness, and some pumpkin and sunflower seeds. There was a mild walnut flavor, but needed more. However, I did like it. 3 1/2 stars

Next up, Mango Blackberry.

IMG_7309

This one I added more water to, and I think it worked well, as it was creamier. However, this one was kind of bland. It tasted like lightly sweetened plain oatmeal. The mango flavor was lacking, and the mango that was in there was not sweet. There was only one blackberry in the whole cup. The sweetness was very mild, and flavor was lacking. 2 1/2 starsIMG_7310

Next up, Chocolate Cherry.IMG_7480

This one I added a WEE bit too much water too. However, I did not like this one regardless. It just did not taste good. The chocolate flavor didn’t seem to fit, was too bitter, and needed sweetness. There was a few cherries, which were good, but too little. There was some nuts which were good, but the chocolate overall ruined the cup. 2 stars.IMG_7481

Next up, 5 Berry. Unfortunately, I lost the pictures of the last 3, but nutritional information and appearance was generally the same.

This one had a light sweetness, and some crunch from sunflower seeds and nuts. There was a mild tart flavor from the berry, which had cranberry, strawberry and raspberry flavor. I liked this one! 3 1/2.

NEXT up… Nuts and Seeds. This one I predicted to like the least but was pleasantly surprised. There was a great texture from all the crunchy nuts and seeds and soft cooked oats. There was a slight taste of cinnamon, and again, it was slightly sweetened. I really enjoyed the pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and liked how they stayed crunchy. 4 star

Lastly, Goji Blueberry. Again, lightly sweetened (seems to be a theme here), with a tiny crunch from sunflower seeds. I did not taste the blueberry really, and it was majorly lacking. There was a small berry in the oatmeal every now and then, but without flavor. The goji also did not provide much flavor. I think this would have been better sweeter. 3 stars

Overall, the oatmeals were good, but needed improvement. The flavors are there, but lack something to bring out the sweetness. Perhaps some spices or salt would help the sweet flavors come out to play. They are good if you are used to a “natural” palate, but you will be a tad disappointed if you are used to the generic super sweetened oatmeal. However, they were all easy to prepare, and a good portion to stay satisfied.

I received this product to try for free from the company. This is an unbiased review.

Introducing…Vitamin Shoppe’s Protein Pantry!

IMG_6725 A new section at Vitamin Shoppe filled with yummy protein packed foods! My favorite. Aside from the traditional protein bars, I like eating protein enriched foods, since I have such an active lifestyle. Gotta fuel those muscles!

They sent me MET-RX Protein Pancake Mix, P28 Apple Crisp Spread, and D’s Naturals Fluff Butter in Chocolate Fudge Cake Batter and Vanilla Maple.

First up…the pancakes!

IMG_7641

You can do 2-3 scoops with up to 1/3-1/2 cup of water, mix, and cook. I decided to use milk and cook with some pam and light butter because I like my pancakes crispy.
IMG_7644

Mmmmm….
IMG_7645
The finished product!
IMG_7648

These were super yummy! They got crispy on the outside from the butter, but remained fluffy and moist on the inside. There was a delicious vanilla aroma being pervaded throughout the house when I was cooking them. They mixed easily, and cooked within a few minutes. The flavor was mildly sweet, mild buttermilk flavor, and even a touch of what felt like a vanilla protein flavor.

I liked them! I think they are versatile and welcome your own additions, but are great with butter and some sugar free syrup alone. You can view the nutritional facts below. I’m a little bummed sugar is the second ingredient added, and wheat flour is used over whole wheat. The protein count to carb and sugar ratio is a little low for me, so these will be used more as a pre-workout meal versus a post workout. With that being said, 4 stars. Great for people trying to put on some mass as well, as they are easy to eat and have some good quality calories.

IMG_7642

Next up, The P28 Apple Crisp Spread

Here’s the spread on some toast:
IMG_6754

As you can see, it was pretty creamy in texture. At least…the top part was. The bottom half got a little drier, more “cement” like, kind of when you extract the natural oil out of non hydrogenated oil. It needs the fat! So if you do buy this, make sure you stir it! The bottom also had tiny bits of raisins and granola crunches that you miss out on until you hit the bottom of the jar. The flavor otherwise is okay, it’s a little pasty, not too sweet, not salty, and pretty mild. I really liked it on toast after I added some jelly, which brought out the flavors of the Apple Crisp spread so much. The apple undertones really came out, and I could taste the cinnamon as well. Overall, good, but not a favorite eaten alone, especially when you hit the bottom. The nutritional profile is actually pretty awesome too- high in fat, obviously, but sugar is low and protein is high. Carbohydrates aren’t much higher than a normal serving of peanuts either. 4 stars

2 tablespoons is 200 calories, 16 grams of fat, 3 saturated fat, 10 mg of sodium, 8 grams of carbohydrate, 2 grams of fiber, 3 grams of sugar, and 14 grams of protein.

 Lastly, D’s Naturals Fluff Butter

First up, the Vanilla Maple

IMG_7469

As you can see, on toast, it kind of “disintegrated” when it was warm.

So next round, I waited until it cooled off a bit, and added some Jelly.

IMG_7470

Alone, not a huge fan of this flavor. It’s a little pasty, and tastes like almond extract with a maple flavor. It’s thick, but not super creamy, and has this odd texture which I think is from the pea protein. If you have ever had pea protein, you know what I am talking about. It’s not creamy…it has this “powdery” texture even when blended with a liquid. I can’t have a spoon of this all at once…too powerful of flavor.

On toast with Jelly, much better. Even though a lot of the flavor seems to disappear into the toast, and I just seemed to taste it mildly. Overall, not a huge fan. I would pass on this one. 2 1/2 stars

Below is some nutritional facts:IMG_7471

Lastly, the Chocolate Fudge Cake Batter Almond Fluffbutter.

This one was pretty good. I liked it better than the Vanilla Maple. It was sweet, but not sugary. It was a little pasty, and you could taste the pea protein. It definitely has a fudge flavor, and reminds me a little bit like chocolate frosting, but not as sugary. Like a protein chocolate frosting. It is creamy, and you can taste the almond which is nice. The flavors are mild, but good. I enjoyed this one straight up- which is vital for me to really enjoy a spread or nut butter. 4 stars

I got some yummy Perky Fruit Bodies to try! What is that, you say? These are organic, raw, vegan, gluten free, and kosher “fruit leathers”.

Let’s get to it! ^-^

IMG_7575

Coconut Banana– this one is squished!

IMG_7576The color and appearance isn’t appetizing, but we always go beyond that for food reviews! The flavor is OK. Banana and coconut flavor is strong, the banana provides the natural sweetness, and tastes like an over-ripened banana. It is dry, and a bit flaky. It is not “sticky” like you would picture a “fruit roll up”, and is more like a natural fruit leather, but still on the drier side. It’s alright. 2 1/2 stars

Strawberry Banana– this one is good!

IMG_7578Tangy from the strawberries, and sweet from the banana. Tastes like a strawberry banana smoothie in fruit leather form. It is a bit chewier than the Coconut Banana, and more held together, which I like. It has a bit of a “rip” to it when you bite it. I would eat this one again. 4 star

Cacao Banana Coconut-  this one I also like.

IMG_7577The cacao flavor is pretty strong, but it gives a chocolate covered banana flavor to it. Good amount of sweetness. The Cacao gives almost a dark chocolate feel as well. The coconut flavor is very mild, and lacking, but I don’t mind because I think it tastes good the way it is. Chewy and has a nice “rip” to it…I like this one! 4 star

Overall, not bad! They run 60-130 calories each, ranging from 14-18 carbs and 0-7 grams of fat depending on the flavor. I think they would go great as a pre workout snack, as you are getting a boost of energy from the sugars from the fruits, and they are light enough where they will not make you feel sluggish during a workout. I also like how they are individually wrapped and easy to bring with you on the go. You can view nutritional information below.

Who doesn’t love a good fruit cup!!! A perfect little snack or treat to go into your lunchbox. Refreshing, and perfect when they are a little chilled, and a great way to finish up a meal, especially if you have a sweet tooth like me 🙂

Del Monte has come out with Fruit & Veggie Fusions! They are blends of fruits with vegetables in the juice part of the fruit cup. They come in 3 flavors,  Peach Mango, Cherry Fruit Trio, and Apple Pear Watermelon.

Each cup combined in 1 serving of fruit and veggies, has NO HFCS, and contains a good amount of Vitamin C.

Del Monte sent me the Peach Mango one to try out. I happen to be a fan of both of those fruits. Mango I tread lightly with, NONE ripe mango I find super tart, but ripened mango is soooo delicious! This one in particular has California peaches, with pumpkin, sweet potato and butternut squash in the juice/syrup part! This is all coupled with some mango flavor as well.

IMG_7247

The verdict…pretty good! My mom adored these. She asked for a second one. I happened to like these too! When cold, they were super refreshing. The mango flavor provided a bit of tartness, and the peaches provided some sweetness. The peaches were nice and soft, but not mushy, which is key. The syrup was somewhere between a juice and thicker syrup, but not super sugary-sweet. There is a bit of added sugar to these cups, but they are lightly sweetened.

You cannot taste the veggies at all! This is great news for Moms with kids who hate veggies! Or great news for anyone, because when is it a bad thing to get extra vegetables in the diet? I think it was super smart to use the mild veggies like butternut squash and pumpkin, which already provide a tad bit of sweetness.

And, here’s the stats: I ripped it :/ ….I was too darn excited to try a cup!

IMG_7246

Due to the added sugar, I will have to give this 4 stars. But really good! I really want to try the cherry one…sounds yummy!

Happy snacking, peeps!
