Biscottis. I’ll admit they never were my favorite type of cookie (can I label it as a cookie?). For arguments sake, I’ll say they never were my favorite type of sweet treat. I’d always prefer an ooey, gooey chocolate chip cookie or a chocolatey brownie, so I’m not sure what compelled me to buy these. Perhaps it’s the fact that cashews are one of my favorite types of nuts, or that I happen to be a fan of Sahale Snacks.

Either way, they sounded pretty good, and the nutritional facts and ingredients were Lisa- approved as well. I ended up buying one of the big bags at the store,  and here’s what a few of them looked like out of the bag

Upon first bite, I noticed a nice crunch. Not super hard, so crunchy it hurts to chew, but a good crunch. The first thing I noticed about the flavor was vanilla. What’s the name of these again? Vanilla cranberry cashew? I thought to myself. Close, but not quite. Pomegranate Cashew was more like it.

These were sweet, with a light toasted flavor. I wouldn’t say I could really detect pomegranate flavor, it was more like just a fruity, slightly sugary sweetness, even with a mild apple flavor. There was also a hint of saltyness that I detected while eating these.

As for the cashew aspect, I would assume the white pieces in the crisps were pieces of cashews, but the flavor really wasn’t there. I wouldn’t be able to say that it was a cashew flavor without being told it was cashews, but knowing there was cashews in the crisps, I could state that there was a mild cashew flavor.

However, don’t get me wrong. These are pretty tasty. Love the sweetness and the unique flavors, even though the flavors promised aren’t very prominent. The portion size is also quite decent. Overall? 3 1/2 stars

Are you a fan of Biscotti? What’s your favorite flavor or brand?

Sahale Snacks Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

Author: Healthnuttxo

Oh it’s that time again- review and giveaway!!!

Valdosta Pecans- these ROCK. Seriously, so yummy. Rich, buttery pecans, that are slightly spicy, slightly salty, and have an almost sweet glaze (very light) on them. They accented with dried cranberries, about the size of a pea, that weren’t too tangy. The little bit of heat, which I would assume is from the “black pepper” listed on the front. Really great combination- salty, sweet, and spicy! Really tasty, and SATISFYING too!- I could totally eat the whole bag! 4 1/2 stars

Sing Buri Cashews- wow, what FLAVOR! There are little pieces of pineapple that taste fantastic– sweet, NOT tangy at all, and great flavor. Then, there’s a spiciness, and a sesame seed flavor which counteracts the sweetness. There are cashews mostly, but also some peanuts, that have a spicy/salty flavor to them, almost like red pepper or a hot tomato flavor. Another great salty/spicy/sweet combination- but this one has a bit more heat. DEELISH! 4 stars

I got an e-mail from Ms. Fortune from Sahale Snacks, saying that they are now available at Seattle’s Best Coffee. It stated in the e-mail…

“Valdosta and Sing Buri nut blends debuted at Seattle’s Best Coffee counters in convenient 2-ounce pouches — enough to share with a friend over coffee or to satisfy a morning and an afternoon snack craving.

Sahale Snacks’ rich and peppery Valdosta Pecans pair especially well with Seattle’s Best Coffee winter beverages, like Vanilla Cinnamon Latte. The spicy and exotic Sing Buri Cashews make a lively accompaniment to tea, espresso, and brewed coffee drinks.”

So if you have access to Seattle’s Best Coffee- lucky you!!  : )

Sahale Snacks Barbeque Almonds

Author: Healthnuttxo

Ah, nothing quite helps me when I’m hungry than a handful of nuts- peanuts, almonds, pecans! Something about them are just so filling and satisfying, and truly enjoyable.

Well, if I’m going to have some almonds, I might as well have some FLAVORED almonds! : )  Sahale Snacks was very generous, and sent me some of their products to try, including the Barbeque Almonds. (You can find these in a 2oz. size at Starbuck’s!)  These almonds are all natural, and according to the package, “Our Barbeque Almonds are seasoned with a proprietary ‘Dry Rub’ spice blend and accented with tangy buttermilk ranch. Then, they’re slow roasted to a smoky, spicy-sweet perfection.”

I was actually quite excited for these- I AM a fan of barbeque flavored chips- I love the flavor and find them so irresistably good! So how do these almonds live up?

🙂

They are decently sized almonds that are coated in a reddish seasoning with a bumpy texture. The first thought that came into my mind as I tried these were both spicy and salty tasting. Then, after the initial heat wore off a little bit, I found that I actually kind of liked them! The almonds were crunchy  and were a really good nut to pair with a barbeque flavor. These had just the SLIGHTEST aftertaste of sweetness, and were mostly spicy in my opinion. I could certainly taste the chipotle pepper and chili pepper ! They were not SUPER spicy, but I definitely could feel the heat!

Overall, these were pretty good. I sort of wish they had more of a sweet taste, like honey flavor, as I prefer barbeque flavored things to be both slightly spicy and a bit sweet. However, I think if you like spicy things, and are a fan of barbeque (especially those spicy barbeque sauces!) you will enjoy these. I also liked that they had 3 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein per 27-gram serving! I’m giving them 4 stars.

1/4 cup (27 grams) is 140 calories, 11 grams of fat, 8 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 3 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein.

Almonds, Barbeque Seasoning (salt, smoked paprika, chili pepper, spices, onion, molasses powder, garlic), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Sea Salt, Dried Buttermilk (buttermilk, whey solids), Tomato Powder, Chipotle Pepper.

Sahale Snacks Review

“Who says indulgent can’t be healthy?”
That’s Sahale’s slogan, and I totally agree. Sahale makes all natural nut mixes and glazed nuts, that are low in sodium, no trans fats, and truly satisying. They encourage you to “Snack Better” and eat their yummy snacks. We all know how much I enjoy nuts, so it was a real treat to eat these!  They come in Nut Blends, each with a different “story” or background info, and also glazed nuts.
From the Nut Blends, i tried the Soledad and Sing Buri variety, and from the glazed nuts I tried the Cashews with Pomegranate & Vanilla, and the Almond PB&J. Now i know your getting excited, so I’ll just begin my review now 🙂

Soledad- These were almonds with apple, flax seeds, dates, balsamic vinegar and red pepper. They definietly had a kick to them, which i give credit to the cayenne pepper in these babies. The almonds were a nice consistency, a nice crunch to them. The apple bits were perfect in the mix, they took away some of the heat. I liked the sweetness and chewiness the apple bits provided. My dad really liked these, but they were a bit too spicy for me. It all depends if you like it hot 😛  3 1/2 stars

Sing Buri- these were cashews with pineapple, peanuts, lemongrass and mild chinese chili. These were also spicy, but not as spicy as the Soledad. I loved, once again, the fruit bits of pineapple. It nicely sweetened up the mix. The cashews were nice and “plump” if you will, and the peanuts were also yummy. They added a more mellow taste to the mix. The cashews are covered in sesame seeds, and are nicely salted. 4 stars!

Almond PB&J-wow. I didn’t know you could eat peanut butter and jelly in nut form. This one was rockkkkkking! Given i eat peanut butter and jelly/honey/applebutter/maple syrup sandwiches pretty much every day for lunch, i was so happy eating these. SO delicious! Each almond is coated with a sweet glaze and has bits of berries stuck to them. It actually tastes like a PB&J sandwich, minus the bread. I’m definitely getting this one again! 5 stars 🙂 🙂

Pomegranate Cashews-another winner in my eyes. The vanilla flavor is strong and delicious. It’s sweet, not oily and the little bits of pomegranate kick butt. Really, really, really addictive (not good because they are NUTS and nuts are high in calories!), but SOOO worth it!! It has a light brown sugar taste, and a wee bit of orangey flavor. So good, i ate the whole bag in 2 days. 😀 5 stars!

Overall, these rock. 4 stars for sure as a whole. They satisfied my hunger and my sweetooth (or “spice” tooth 😉 ) and were all natural and not oily or too salty at all. I also like how 1 ounce is slightly less caloric but just as satisfying nuts alone due to the pieces of fruit added. I really want to try the other flavors- especially the Valdosta Pecan!! (love pecans!!)

Soledad- 1/4 cup is 130 calories, 9 grams of fat, 10 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of protein.
Almonds, Dried Apples (Unsulfured Apples, Sugar), Organic Flax Seeds, Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Balsamic Vinegar, Sea Salt, Spices, Date Juice Concentrate.
