Sparkling Ice Mango Guava Sparkling Water

Author: Healthnuttxo

The mystery flavor is finally revealed from Sparkling Ice — and it is MANGO GUAVA!

After months and thousands of guesses from #WhatTheFlavorSweeps, Mango Guava is finally revealed. 0calories, 0 grams of sugar, caffeine free and enriched with Vitamin A, D, B6, Niacin, B12, Biotin and Panthothenic Acid per serving.

I was sent some of these to try from the company – I tried to guess the flavor and honestly, that’s almost what I was guessing! It is mildly carbonated (perfect), with a fruity, tropical flavor. I was trying to guess with every sip and I settled on a guava/mango flavor. To my surprise, I was actually right! It definitely reminds me of something fruity that I should be sipping on a nice, warm beach. Almost some hints of pineapple in there too. Super refreshing, and a perfect summer drink.

You can get this flavor for a limited time in stores while supplies last!

DISCLAIMER: I was given these bottles to try for free from the company. This is an unbiased post.

I will start this review by stating I do not wear a lot of makeup. Not that I don’t like it, but rather…I usually don’t have a clue with what I am doing. So I avoid it. However, MGS accessories offered me to try their cruelty-free Liquid Lipsticks, and I thought I would give them a try.

I got the lipsticks in 3 different colors– Saucy, Peachy, & Natural.

They are relatively easy to apply– a soft tip brush allows for easy application without smearing it below the vermillion border (aka your lip line). My complaint with other traditional lipsticks is I have thin lips and found it hard to apply without getting it on my skin — not the case with these.

The lipstick has a creamy consistency that dries rather quickly. I found it could feel a tiny bit dry, which is the nature of a Matte lipstick, and I wish it came with a gloss I could apply after or a clear lip balm.

The Peachy was…not my color. Too light for my complexion, and a little too, well, peachy in color for me. I found it to have a little too much of an orange hue. However, I am sure it would look great on other individuals, this one was just not for me.

The Natural was a gorgeous color. I wore it to work one day with very minimal eye makeup and got a lot of compliments on it. It stayed on well throughout the day and did not flake off. I did reapply 2-3 times (I eat and drink a lot!) but I was always worried it would flake off and it didn’t! However, it was definitely darker than I thought it would be, and the name decieved me a bit as “Natural”. I was expecting it to be more muted in color, but instead was a nice deep magenta almost.

Lastly, the Saucy, which was a really nice pop of color. A rich red, I think would pair well with a little black dress or something more for a night out in the town.

Overall, I like these! While the Peachy wasn’t my color, it doesn’t mean it isn’t YOUR color. What I loved also about these is the minimal ingredients (plant pigment, jojoba oil, vitamin E…etc) and they are CRUELTY Free! I have very sensitive skin and I did not have any reaction. A WIN for me.

Silvon Bedding

Author: Healthnuttxo

Bedding for better skin? Hmm…This I have to try.

I’ll admit, the Instagram ad got me. Basically I was scrolling IG as usual, saw an ad for “35$ pillow case or $100 acne cream?” and well…it got me.

I’ve suffered with acne for the past 5-6 years, with it’s peak the past 3 years. However, we can likely contribute that partially on the horrible stress of a rigorous graduate program. I’ve tried everything. Creams, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, eliminating dairy and refined sugar. So fine, I caved. At age 27, I still have acne, mostly isolated to my neck, behind the ears, shoulders, and side of my face… Could my pillowcase, in fact, be doing me dirty!? (no pun intended, To be fair, I never wear makeup to bed and wash my sheets 1-2x a week!)

I decided to purchase the pillow case and fitted bed sheet. & it wasn’t cheap. & if I told my mom I paid $120 for a sheet and a pillow case, she may scream at me. But I am 27 and I deserve to buy what I want without my mother forever telling me to “save my money” so… here we go!

Silvon bedding is made with organic cotton and woven with silver, which acts as an anti-microbial. According to the website, “Silver carries a naturally positive charge and bacteria carries a naturally negative charge. These opposing charges are what makes silver and bacteria attracted to each other. Silver then breaks bacteria’s cell wall and destroys it before it has a chance to reproduce.” I like it. I like the science.

But Silver? So am I going to be sleeping on scratchy sheets? I was tentative to hit the purchase button, afraid the sheets would cause my overly annoyingly sensitive skin to break out (ironically).

HOWEVER, these sheets are so smooth! They are soft, smooth, and with a silky feel. They are also cool to the touch which is a HUGE plus for me, because even in the dead of winter, ya girl is sweating. Seriously.

Okay, so I know I bought a king sized pillow case– I have a rather large tempurpedic pillow, which I normally use a queen sized pillowcase that fits perfect, if not snug. WHY is the King sized pillow case so LONG!? Not a huge deal…but I think that might be an error on their part. Or maybe mine. Who knows.

I purchased Twin XL bed sheet, which also was TOO BIG for my mattress, which is a twin with a thick mattress topper. Again, not a huge deal, but it will not fit snug like my other brands do.

What’s more annoying than the case being too long is this STAIN that was on the pillowcase after washing ONE time. I do not use benzoyl peroxide on my face (ruined too many sheets and towels with that), I do not use bleach in my wash (I used scent free, gentle detergent). I always wash my face before bed. So what gives Silvon?

Okay that’s all fine…but How did the acne hold up?

TO BE FAIR, since I graduated, my stress levels have declined, my sleep has improved, and my skin was clearing before I purchased the sheets. However, I would still get break outs.

Since purchasing the pillowcase and bedsheet, my acne…is the same, maybe somewhat improved. Perhaps there are a few less breakouts around my neck and upper back, which is exposed to my sheets.

Will I swap my retinoid for a pillowcase?

No. I will continue to use the sheets. I like they are cool to the touch, made with organic cotton and maybe longer term they will reduce my acne. We shall see.

HOWEVER, due to the pricetag, the stain after washing once, and the poor fit of sheets, this gets a 3 star rating.

Protein cookies? Count me in!

Now that I have demolished the better part of all the Easter Bunnies in my house (the chocolate ones that is), it’s time to get back on track with some…well… healthier fare. In comes Flap Jacked with protein cookie and baking mix.

I’m always wary of baking protein goodies – because undoubtedly, companies use whey protein, and whey protein is, well, DRY. I have done my fair share of baking experiments (and failures) in the past, and time and time again, whey comes out to be a whey-ste of time (sorry I had to).

But let’s give it a go. These cookies have 10 grams of protein per serving, which is likely 9 more grams than Grandma’s oatmeal cookies, and 15 grams of sugar per 2 cookies. Still relatively high in sugar, but, I mean, it IS a cookie.

It was super easy to make:

6 tbsp butter
2 eggs
Mix
Add ins as Desired, I added some chocolate chips, because clearly I need more sugar in my life and who likes raisins anyway!!!

The mix looked pretty dry so I added just a touch of almond milk

So this is unofficially part of the review but the dough was delicious! But please don’t eat the dough, we all know there is a risk of salmonella with every raw egg you eat.

Anyway, I baked for a strict 9 minutes, knowing that if you overtake whey it will be DRY.

What we got is some delicious, soft baked cookies.

The chocolate chip was a good addition, as the mix is, indeed, a bit dry (darn it, WHEY!)
However, there is a nice cinnamon flavor, and these cookies are rather light and airy. These would be a dream for a “cheat” on a bodybuilding diet prep, as there is really no protein powder flavor but 10 grams of protein per 2 cookies.
Honestly these are pretty good. They will run you $6.99 per bag, which isn’t bad because you get 12 large cookies. I would add some applesauce next time to combat the bit of dryness. I hope FlapJacked considers other protein sources in the future as well.

Dental Lace Refillable Dental Floss

Author: Healthnuttxo

According to viajaramar.com, if everyone in the United States flossed as directed, the number of empty floss containers would pile as high as a football filed that is 6 stories high on a YEARLY basis. So whats the solution? Not floss?

Of course not! Dental Lace has made a reusable, refillable dental floss filled with 100% silk floss to help abut this issue. The floss comes in a designed, discrete container available in pink, gray or blue, and the top metal part has a little hook that allows the floss to be cut. It is also waxed with a mint flavor.

Now, I am not a dental floss from the container kind of girl. I will admit, I use the little handheld ones (which are totally bad for environment…) for sake of ease. So I let my Dad, who I consider the floss connoisseur try this one out as well, as he uses floss from the container multiple times per day.

The floss is easy to use and easy to pull out the container. I loved the cute little containers, and I also found they are easier to stash than the bulkier square/rectangle shaped plastic ones. However, we were all pretty unanimous in not being a fan of the actual floss. I am not sure if it is because it is silk based or not, but the string itself broke very easily in our teeth or frayed. In addition, the metal piece utilized to cut the floss easily bends, as it has no protection. However, the floss did do what it was intended to do…removed fussy food particles.

Overall, while I like the idea of the containers and reusable floss, I was not a fan (nor my Dad) of the floss itself. Perhaps if the floss itself could somehow be improved upon, this will be a fantastic product. Unfortunately, my Dad went back to using his plastic-laden, non-reusable floss containers ☹

Voke Chewable Superfood Tablets

Author: Healthnuttxo

Looking for a mid-afternoon pick me up? While coffee usually does it for me, sometimes I am In a rush and don’t want to guzzle an entire cup of coffee before a lift. (Squats + coffee? Not a great combination…).

Consider Voke Super-Food tablets. Each packet provides 2 tablets at 77 mg of caffeine each (roughly a small cup of coffee), and you are instructed to eat 1 in the morning and 1 in the mid-afternoon (1/2 a tablet for those who are sensitive!) The caffeine is extracted from Green Tea Leaves.

Voke promotes mental focus, upbeat mood and clear thinking with their Superfood blend of Organic Raw Guarana Seed (often seen in energy drinks for focus), Natural Red Beetroot, Organic Acerola Cherry, and Natural Green Tea Leaf Caffeine. Each tablet also provides 60 mg of Vitamin C (100% of Recommended daily value) and only 2 calories each with 0g of sugar. They are sweetened with Organic Erythritol, Xylitol, Monk Fruit Extract and Rebiana from Stevia Leaves.

Each tab is roughly the size of a nickel, with the diameter of 3 coins. They are easy to chew. The taste is…okay. When you first bite into it, it tastes pretty good with a slight medicinal taste, reminiscent of children’s chewable vitamins I used to take (maybe I still use them…who knows!). But then you are somewhat overwhelmed with this tart and bitter flavor. I think it’s good on one hand to not taste *amazing*, as people may be inclined to take more than recommended (or if kids get their hands on them, may eat them which is not okay under the age of 12 (as per Voke).  On the other hand, they are super tart, and I just wish they would be slightly more palatable.  I only ate half the first time I tried it, and I wasn’t thrilled about trying them again.

That being said, taste aside, I did have a pretty good workout. I ate the tablet 30-45 minutes prior to a lift after a long day at work when I was feeling like I was dragging. I felt like I had an extra boost and pep during my workout, and I liked that I didn’t have to get another cup of coffee. I did have a slight bit of anxiety, but this is rather common for me when I use supplements with caffeine in them (or even when I drink too much coffee).

Overall, these are OK. If you can handle the tartness, they are a good option, especially for those who workout early on an empty stomach or cannot drink coffee and looking for another option besides the 4$ overly caffeinated energy drinks. I like that the ingredient list is relatively pure and the supplement is low in sugar.

As per Voke, do not use the tablets if you are pregnant, under the age of 12, or have a heart condition. You are also instructed to NOT exceed 5 tablets it 24 hours.

Looking for an April Fools Trick?

Author: Healthnuttxo

WARNING: For adult, mature audiences only!

If you are looking for a funny gift for Easter or April Fools day (that also donates to a good cause…) look no further! Dick At Your Door allows you to “send a chocolate dick to anyone” * ANONYMOUSLY* AND $1 from every order is also donated to the American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research. Awesome!

To be perfectly honest, I agreed to reviewing this product and was totally fooled LOL. So that goes to show that they did a pretty good job…because I literally knew it was coming and still was fooled. I got home and opened this package and saw a pretty box that looked like this.

Inconspicuous….

How pretty right?
Here I am, thinking, oh wow who got me something? Belated birthday gift? Is it a bracelet? Jewelry?

Nope…

UNREAL LOL!

Absolutely hilarious, I was actually fooled. I think this is a great April Fools joke. However, as the website states as a disclaimer, “Products on this site are intended only as gag gifts for adults. These products are intended to generate a laugh and are not to be sent with malicious intent. If you have any doubt that sending a product from this site could potentially harm someone, do not place an order. It is your responsibility to use this site as it was intended, as a joke.”

As with every review, this is an unbiased review, I received this for free from the company.

Dietary Supplements – we’ve all tried and bought a few from here and there. While the FDA does not regulate supplements, you CAN do your best to buy from reputable companies who take pride in what they sell. Synergy Company sent me some of their Organic Dietary supplements from the Pure Synergy line. You can view all their supplements here

I was sent: Super Pure Beta 1,3 Glucan Algae Extract, Pure Radiance C 100% Natural Vitamin C from Wildcrafted Berries, SuperPure Echinacea, Rapid Rescue and Enzyme Powder full spectrum Digestive support. Most of the supplements are Organic and Kosher (but always double check your label!)

So let’s get started!

Super Pure Beta 1,3 Glucan Algae Extract:
-each capsule is vegetarian and contains 500 mg of Beta 1,3 Glucan
-okay great, WHAT IS BETA GLUCAN??
-according to the website, it is found in cell walls of mushrooms, yeast and algae, and has been linked to immune-enhancing benefits, as well as promote healthy stress responses and healthy inflammation responses
-unfortunately, my research of Beta 1,3 Glucan is limited. I wish there was a paper to support the statements of the supplement (I’m a science gal). However, I do like that this product is made without harsh chemicals, GMO free, dairy free, yeast free, and gluten free.

Pure Radiance C 100% Natural Vitamin C from Wildcrafted Berries:
–just 1/4 of a tsp of this powdered supplement provides 200% of your RDA of Vitamin C
-organic and kosher
-I added this with my iced tea, and it added just a very slight berry flavor to my drink. I’m sure you could also mix with water, but I preferred it as a little boost with my tea. I had no side effects, and did not get sick the entire month I used the product. Coincidence? Maybe. But maybe not, as we do know Vitamin C’s role in immune health and as a co-factor in many enzymatic reactions in the body.

SuperPure Echinacea & Rapid Rescue
-You see echinacea all the time in cough and cold products — but why? It is believed to help “jump start” your immune response, according to the Synergy Company
-You can take the Echinacea or the Rapid Rescue at the first sign of a cold or when you’re not quite feeling yourself (naturally, any fever or signs of a more serious illness, please see your doctor!)
-I won’t lie, I took the Rapid Rescue at the first signs of a cold (during one of my Pediatric rotations…lots of sick kids!), and felt that the cold was expedited to about 3-4 days instead of my usual that lingers for 5-6 days.
-Of NOTE: I did feel particularly anxious when I took the Rapid Rescue. I cannot comment if that was correlated with the supplement, or extraneous factors. But, I figured I would state it as such.

ENZYME POWDER: Full Spectrum Enzyme Support

-1 pill provides a TON of digestive enzymes.
-For Carbohydrate digestion: amylase, glucoamylase, lactase (for lactose), maltase, invertase
-For Fat digestion: lipase
For Protein Digestion: bromelain and papain, protease, peptidase, acid protease, serrapeptase, nattokinase
-Plant Fibers: cellulase, hemicellulase, alpha-galactosidase, xylanase, pectinase, phytase, beta glucanase
-& lastly, Digestive “support blend” which includes things such as fennel, red algae trace mineral complex, ginger and tumeric
-I think this would be a good supplement for someone who suffers from indigestion or simple heartburn. Remember, this is not medical advice, and you should ALWAYS see a doctor or PA for medical advice, especially if you have something like ongoing indigestion, etc.

Overall, I like this company, and I feel as if their products are pure. Worth a try!

Let me know if you have tried any of these before and which are your favorites.

DISCLAIMER: I received these for free. This is an UNBIASED review.

Dietary Supplements can be tricky. If you are not aware, * MOST * are NOT FDA regulated – hence, do we ever really know what is in a dietary supplement?

Well, to solve this problem, Dr. Sreek Cherukuri established SmartCeuticals, which are produced in a NSF certified facility. This is to ensure what is in your supplement is actually what the bottle says it has!

Dr. Sreek Cherukuri’s company established Boscumin, which is a combination of tumeric and Boswellia. This product is supposed to be 29x more effective than standard tumeric and boswellia, as it is bound to fat solulble lecithin for increased absorption.

According to the email I received from the company, they reported a study that found some other tumeric products were synthetic, and made from petroleum. (yuck!!)

Tumeric and Boswellia are natural herbs aimed at reducing inflammation and helping ease joint pain.

These pills are GMO free, dairy, egg, gluten soy, wheat, sugar, salt, yeast, preservative, artificial flavor and fragrance free. They are vegan and gluten free as well.

Here is a picture of the label:

So a bit of feedback, the pills are decently big, and you are instructed to take 2 per day. I am not a *huge* fan of the label looking like a prescription bottle. I understand it is promoting “medicinal effects” per se, but it is not an FDA regulated medicine or prescription, so I’m not a huge fan of the fact the bottle looks as such.

HOWEVER, If you are interested in learning more, please check out the website here. You can use my promo code, LISA, as well!

This is definitely something new for me- vitamin infused toothpaste? Cool!

Vitaminpaste is the first multivitamin and mineraltoothpaste. According to the fact sheet they sent me, both varieties:

  • developed by Dentist Dr. Bruce Golden
  • Both are fluoride free, thus eliminating the risk of dental and skeletal fluorosis from fluoride toothpaste ingestion
  • This toothpaste contains ingredients that are safe to ingest
  • It is sweetened with Xylitol, which helps reduce risk of tooth decay

You are instructed to use 1 inch strip of toothpaste, brush for 2 minutes (1 minute for Mint), rinse and swallow normally and use this 3 times per day

The Mint Variety…

  • Infused with Vitamin D, E, B6, Niacin,Pantothenic Acid, Zinc, Selenium and Manganese
  • Is gluten free
  • Not tested on animals
  • Contains Sodium lauryl sulfate
  • Contains parabens to help keep toothpastebacteria free
  • Freshens breath, whitens teeth

The Vitamin Paste for Kids (Bubblegum flavor)—for kids aged 4+

  • Does NOTcontain sodium lauryl sulfate
  • Provides 50% RDA of Vitamin D, E, B3, B5, B6when used as directed (aged 4-13)
  • No parabensor preservatives
  • Contains calcium
  • Not tested on animals
  • Helps freshen breath and whiten teeth

So how did it taste?
Pretty good. The mint variety was more sweet than minty, with predominant Xylitol flavor. I like the mint, especially for kids, as it wasn’t harsh in flavor or burned when I used it (some mint toothpaste stings!). That being said, the very mild flavor made me feel like I wasn’t super “refreshed” after  brushing.

The Bubblegum flavor was also mild, but still pretty good. I liked that both varieties weren’t colored, and the bubblegum flavor was white (rather than dyed with pink).

Overall, I like the idea of these, especially for kids who won’t take a multivitamin with their meals or may be lacking some vitamins/minerals. I personally believe Fluoride plays a role in proper teeth and bone development, as well as anti-cavity effects, but I also like the fact these are fluoride free, as excess (such as consuming toothpaste) can be dangerous, and can be seen in the pediatric population. The Xylitol takes the place of Fluoride to reduce plaque, and I am wondering what the role of anti-cavity Xylitol has. My only other complaint was that this toothpaste did not really leave me feeling “refreshed” after brushing. My teeth felt clean, but the “just brushed” feeling dissipated rather quickly. However, I did not experience any burning or irritation that some of the strong minty toothpastes can cause.

SO for me, these get a solid 4.
