Lemon 0% Chobani Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Source

For starters, I LOVE Chobani yogurt. Creamy, thick, and insanely yummy. Strawberry Banana and Pineapple Chobani will always have my heart, but I’m always up for change.

Sooooooo at the store the other day, I nearly jumped for a joy when I saw the Lemon, one of the newer flavors. I’m not a HUGE lemon fan, but there were no other new flavors available, so I decided to try this one. Lemon can sometimes be very refreshing, I just hoped it wouldn’t be too tart!

So yesterday I decided to have the Chobani with some granola on it as well. I opened the Chobani and gave it a stir, surprised not to see any jelly/fruit on the bottom. It looked like it was a blended yogurt. It still had the same creaminess and thick consistency that I know and love. I took a spoonful, hoping for the best, and unfortunately I was not a fan.  : (

It wasn’t really that sweet, and kind of tart, actually. It was like lemonade made without enough sugar- where it’s sweet but not sweet enough to mask the tartness of the lemon. It was good when I had the granola with it, since it toned down some of the lemony-tart flavor, but by itself I wasn’t enjoying it. I probably would not get this again in the future. For me, I’d give it 2 1/2 stars

Have you tried this new flavor yet? What did you think?

1 cup is 140 calories, 0 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 18 grams of sugar and 15 grams of protein.

Wallaby Yogurt makes some pretty delicious products, such as organic yogurt in nonfat, low fat and “down under” (fruit on the bottom like) varieties, and now they even make sour cream! I love when yogurt is organic, as I think it tastes very fresh and clean, without any aftertaste.

So, browsing the aisles at the supermarket I stopped in my tracks… this can’t be… CARAMEL APPLE YOGURT??!? I hope we all know my obsession with apples… :D I immediately put it into my shopping cart!

I know the last time I tried a Wallaby Yogurt it was good, but not as thick as I like yogurt to be. It has an almost runny/liquidy consistency, not as thick as other yogurts and certainly not thick like greek yogurt. So, I stuck this in the freezer for about 30 minutes to let it thicken up. I opened it up and took out a scoop.

yuuuuuuuum.

It was a creamy vanilla yogurt part that was on top, that was smooth and sweet. On the bottom were apple chunks in an almost caramel/applesauce flavored syrup. Really delicious! At one point I actually did feel like I was eating a caramel apple!

Overall, this gets 4 1/2 stars. WAY too good to pass up! Tasty, organic, and sweet but not too sweet, it was very delicious. I jus wish, of course, the yogurt part on top was a bit thicker, but still enjoyable nonetheless. Also, it wasn’t as filling as I wanted it to be, but pair it with some cereal or something and it’s a great afternoon snack!

Look at this deliciousness!!

1 container is 150 calories, 2 grams of fat, 27 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 23 grams of sugar and 6 grams of protein.

Question- What’s your FAVORITE brand and/or flavor yogurt? This is certainly now one of my top favorites! :)

Tribest Yolife Yogurt Maker

Author: Healthnuttxo

*ZEVIA giveaway ends Sunday!*

Oh yeah- YOGURT MAKER!!

A little while ago, the generous folks at CSN gave me a 30$ giftcard to get the item of choice on their websites. I chose the Tribest Yolife Yogurt Maker, seeing as I LOVE yogurt and totally loved the idea of making any flavor I wanted (I’m thinking of doing a “peanut butter and jelly” the next time I try this machine!!)

So, I opened up my box, washed the containers and got ready to go.

Uh-oh. One thing missing. I needed yogurt cultures! So, I packed up the yogurt machine and went looking for yogurt cultures at some stores.

So after some searching  I finally found some. Hooray! Now I can make tasty yogurt from home!

What kind of flavor did I want to make? Fruity? Savory? Sweet? (I ended up using 1/4 cup sugar, a little bit of stevia, 1 tablespoon of banana extract, and a little bit of vanilla extract as well to the milk.)

I heated 4 cups of skim milk in a pot (before a boil) and let cool. This whole process took about an hour or so.

Then I had to put the cultures in a separate cup with a little bit of the heated then cooled down milk, and stir. I noticed that it sort of smelled like cheese! Then I added that little cup of milk back to the pot, and mixed again.

I ended up filling 6 of the little jars that the yogurt maker came with the milk mixture, and put them in the yogurt machine (without the jars’ lids on), and then placed the cover on the machine. I plugged it in, set the timer for 12 hours and well. Now all I had to do was wait!

The whole process took about 16 hours. I started at 4pm Friday and took it out around 8 am Saturday. Then of course, I had warm yogurt, so I had to stick it in the fridge to cool off. I let it sit for 24 hours in the fridge, and then took one out. It sort of had a silken tofu appearance, or resembled when I once had a soy yogurt. It looked firm on top, but then when I scooped some with my spoon, it kind of fell apart. It sort of looked like watered down cottage cheese in a way. Perhaps the next time I try it I’ll leave it in the yogurt machine longer? Or use different ingredients?

Overall, this gets 3 stars. It was a little time consuming, and didn’t really give me the texture I wanted. I do like the concept of being able to make custom flavors, and  being able to control the nutrition.

So, a question(s) for you readers! What flavor should I make next? Do you have any exciting or good ideas? Please leave a comment below if you’ d like to give me some ideas! =)
*also-Has anyone used a yogurt machine maker and can give me some advice on how to get firmer yogurt? I would appreciate it!

Chobani 0% Plain Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

We all know (or hopefully know) how much I looooove yogurt! It’s my healthy and usually sweet treat I make sure I eat everyday! Along with regular yogurt, I also enjoy greek yogurt. Although I normally go for flavored ones, Chobani sent me their 0% Plain Greek Yogurt to try.

The first thing I noticed was that a 6 oz cup is ONLY 100 calories, and 18 grams of protein! I was immediately impressed by that, since I’m not a big meat eater and need dairy/soy/eggs for my main sources of protein. PLus, that is very LEAN protein! No fat, and only 100 calories! Nice!

The texture was super thick and creamy, just like I like it. Unfortunately, I do not really enjoy greek yogurt plain. I did try some of this without anything mixed in or added, and found it rather tart for my likings. So, what could I mix with this? Well, I took some regular chocolate frozen yogurt and mixed it with the greek yogurt and let it freeze for a bit in the freezer. Voila! Yummy chocolate taste, and a boost of protein, with an additional creamier texture.

Overall, I give this 4 stars. Although I would probably never eat it as is, I can always mix something in to sweeten it. I have in the past also used those ranch seasoning powder mixes with plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream, and found that to be an excellent swap. I love that this is high in protein, low in calories, has 0 grams of fat  per 6 ounce serving.

Which makes me curious…
What do you like to mix in with plain greek yogurt? If you’d like to leave a comment, please do so below! : )

1 6oz yogurt is 100 calories, 0 grams of fat, 7 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 7 grams of sugar, and 18 grams of protein.

Cultured Pasteurized Nonfat Milk.

HappyBaby and YoBaby review plus GIVEAWAY!

Author: Healthnuttxo

Today is a combined review( and GIVEAWAY!) of HappyBaby and YoBaby products. I was sent coupons to try free products from both companies.

HappyBaby- I chose the HappyBites Mac + Cheese Bites. When I purchased them from the store, they came in a pack of three Mac + Cheese Bites. However, the company recently updated the product to have 9 bites per box. I actually quite enjoyed them. They reminded me of homemade baked macaroni & cheese. A really good and “gooey” cheesey flavor, with little lumps or pieces of what I imagine was both butternut squash and noodles. I do wish it was a bit saltier tasting, as it tasted a bit bland. I simply put a grind of sea salt on top and voila! Instantly better. Tasty, too! 4 stars

Happy Baby-  I also tried their frozen fruit of Smarter Squash + Wiser Apple. While I haven’t tried the Smarter Squash yet, the Wiser Apple was quite tasty. I am a really big applesauce fan, so I thought I would like these. They came in little compartments, so I defrosted and had 3 of them for a serving. The texture was sort of slushy, but also smooth. It was really sweet, which I absolutely loved, and barely any tartness whatsoever. It sort of reminded me of a “candy” applesauce- but the ingredients were JUST organic apples. Nice!! 4 1/2 stars
I also found out from Helen Bernstein who provided me the coupons something about the frozen HappyBaby. “Since these are for baby, there is never any salt, sugar, coloring or preservatives added.  Babies certainly do not need it and additives only train their tastes to eat processed food high in sodium and sugar. ”

YoBaby- I picked up a pack of the apple and blueberry flavored multipack. They were small sized 4 oz yogurts.

That makes me feel good eating such a pure and great product! : )

The Apple flavor was very mild. It sort of tasted like a plain vanilla, with a slight bit of tartness and slight cinnamon flavor. I also thought I detected a bit fo lemon flavor. I did like that it was thick, but sort of wish it was sweeter. 2 1/2 stars

I liked the Blueberry flavor much more. Again, same awesome thickness, with a nice tang. Good blueberry flavor, and it also tasted like I was actually eating cream! Very rich and delicious. I do wish it was a bit sweeter, but overall, enjoyable. Too bad it was a smaller size than what I’m used to! 4 stars

Now, onto the giveaway!

There will be TWO winners, one for HAPPYBABY prize, one for YOBABY prize. each below. I was e-mailed the prizes that will be given from Ms. Bernstein, who said

Voskos Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

* Please don’t forget the newly posted  UNCLE SAM CEREAL GIVEAWAY *

I feel as if I start all my yogurt reviews the same way- saying how much I like love yogurt. So instead of doing that again (which…I guess I already did!), let’s just review! : )

Voskos Greek Yogurt sent me some of their yogurts to try, and of course I was excited! These yogurts are all natural, gluten free, and come in a variety of flavors. What I liked about all the flavors I tried was that each was thick and creamy,  and sweet without being too sweet.

Honey Vanilla Bean- this one was good. Thick like sour cream, it even had little black specks, which I would imagine is from the vanilla bean! It had a real vanilla flavor, that was sweet without overpoweringly so. It had just the right amount of a honey aftertaste too. DELICIOUS! 4  stars

Greek Honey- definitely more tangier than the Honey Vanilla Bean, and a much stronger honey flavor. It wasn’t as sweet as I had expected, surprising to me because I find honey very sweet. Still thick and creamy, and pretty good. 3 1/2 stars

Wild Strawberry- yum! This yogurt was awesome! I really liked that it tasted like one of those non-greek strawberry yogurts, but still had the creamy texture of a greek yogurt! Not only was there a really fresh and delicious strawberry flavor, there also was a slight pineapple/peach flavor. My favorite I tried! 4 1/2 stars

Wild Blueberry- aw, man. I really did not like this flavor as much as I had hoped. It sort of had a very mild blueberry flavor, but it was almost tart tasting and really not that sweet. I did add a little bit of stevia to sweeten it, and found it a little better. On the bright side, it still was quite creamy and thick! 2 1/2 stars

Overall, these were pretty good! I can see myself buying some Voskos Greek Yogurt in the future, if I see them in stores by me!

Chobani 2% Pineapple Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Chobani 2% Pineapple Greek Yogurt is now one of my new favorite flavors of greek yogurt.

Chobani sent me some samples to try, including the 2% Pineapple Greek Yogurt. At first, I was a little skeptical. Why 2%? Why not fat free? I mean, this yogurt was 160 calories with 2 grams of saturated fat! But now I know! I really COULD taste the difference between a 0% Chobani and a 2% Chobani. Although both are delicious in my opinion, this yogurt was truly something special.

One of the freshest, and creamiest tasting yogurts I have ever had. The pineapple part in my yogurt was actually not just on the bottom, but I experienced pineapple flavor throughout the entire yogurt. It was a sweet pineapple, that was throughly enjoyable. The yogurt itself was creamy and thick, and I could actually taste the cream. So. Good. I think the next time I get this yogurt I might freeze it a little bit, sort of like pineapple frozen yogurt!

Overall, need I say it? 5 stars ! This yogurt is all natural, gluten free, and high in protein. Although it does have 2 grams of saturated fat per yogurt, it’s just too delicious to pass up.

*What’s your favorite Chobani flavor?? If you’d like to answer, leave a comment below!  : )

1 yogurt is 160 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 21 carbohydrates, 18 grams of sugar, 0 grams of fiber and 13 grams of protein.

Cultured Pasteurized Nonfat Milk, Cream, Pineapple, Evaporated Cane Juice, Pineapple Concentrate, Pectin, Locust Bean Gum, Natural Flavor, Turmeric (for color).

Last few days to enter the CHOCOLATEY giveaway! :)

I love YOGURT! I try to eat at least one every day, whether it’s for breakfast, snack, or even dessert! A yogurt I have seen in the stores by me is Fage, which according to the website, makes “Ridiculously thick yogurt”. They have a few different types of products, including the TOTAL 2% Peach, Strawberry and Cherry yogurt.

The people over at Fage sent me some coupons to try out some of their products, and I was most excited about the TOTAL 2% yogurt with the fruit compartments. I decided to try the Cherry, Peach, and Strawberry flavors that were offered. The TOTAL 2% yogurts have 2 compartments, one with yogurt, and the other, smaller, compartment has an almost jelly-like flavor. It’s sort of like a fruit on the bottom yogurt, but the fruit is actually separated on the side. I thought they looked cool and interesting, so I figured why not give these a try?

The yogurt part on all three flavors was pretty much the same. A plain, tart but not too tart yogurt, that really was quite thick. It was creamy too, and sort of reminded me of sour cream. I also think it had a bit of actual cream taste, which was really delicious. I enjoyed this part plain, but also with the peach, cherry and strawberry sides.

Peach- ahh, so refreshing. This jelly-like side had small and soft bits of peaches, all together in a sweet syrup. Really good! 4 1/2 stars

Strawberry- this one was also delicious. A sweet strawberry flavor, not as sweet as strawberry jam, but still good. Smooth and yummy, it had an authentic strawberry flavor that did not disappoint. 4 1/2 stars

Cherry- oh, my, this one was the BEST! I thought Strawberry was going to be my favorite, but Cherry really made my day! Sweet in the best way possible, it went just PERFECT with the yogurt. I actually found myself licking the compartment where the fruit was clean. SOOO good! 5 stars

Overall,  a really great product. I certainly will buy more in the future. I think it’s perfect as a snack with some fruit, or even for breakfast with some cereal or oatmeal! The creamy yogurt and sweet fruit compartments both equally great. I just wish the fruit section was bigger! ;)

1 yogurt is 130 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 18 carbohydrates, 17 grams of sugar,0 grams of fiber and 11 grams of protein.

Organic Valley Products

Author: Healthnuttxo

*Before the review begins, don’t forget about the Barbara’s Bakery Beanie Puffin Giveaway!*

Whenever I can, I like to chose organic products over the non-organic, especially when it comes to things like produce, milk, etc. Organic Valley is a brand that makes some delicious organic products. According to the website, “Organic. It’s all we do. In the years since our seven founding farmers got together in 1988, we’ve grown our offerings to over 200 premium quality certified organic products, including milk, cream, cheese, butter, yogurt, eggs, juice, meat, soy and produce.”

So, I was happy to receive some coupons for free Organic Valley products from Organic Valley. I decided to try the Organic 2% Reduced-Fat Milk, Organic Fat Free Milk, and the Organic Plain Yogurt (haha I realized that paragraph said the word organic about 5 times! :)

The Organic 2% Reduced-Fat Milk and Organic Fat Free Milk were both a treat. They both tasted so pure and real. I really enjoyed them both, even without cereal or anything else. The Organic 2% Reduced-Fat Milk even had a creamy, rich taste to it, something I’m not used to. I usually always opt for skim or fat free, maybe 1%, but not 2% or whole milk, but decided to give the 2% Reduced-Fat a try. And glad that I did! I can see myself buying both these organic milks in the future!

The Organic Plain Yogurt was also a bit different. It came in a 32 oz. bottle, rather than a container. I poured some in a bowl, and at first thought… is this just a thicker milk? It had a more liquidy consistency than what I am used to for yogurt, but still provided that tart yogurt taste! It tasted very fresh, and I loved that I could close and reuse the bottle after using some of it. I also loved the fact that it had 2 grams of fiber for an 8 oz serving! 4 1/2 stars

After trying some plain, I decided to mix it up a bit. I added some of those chocolate-milk mix powder to the plain yogurt, and then put it in the freezer for a bit to let it thicken, and get slightly frozen. Then I sliced up some banana, and added a dollop of whipped cream. What a treat! The yogurt was perfect with the chocolate-milk mix, and it was certainly a satisfying and healthy snack for me! Here is a picture below

I. love. yogurt.

I’ll be honest, I probably eat a yogurt once or even two times a day. And, one of my favorite brands for flavored yogurts is Stonyfield Farms. I enjoy several flavors they have to offer, and try to keep my refrigerator stocked with their yogurts at all times :)
(I also love how the cartoon cow above the word organic on the front of the cups always seems to have something to go with each variety. For example, on this cup I think he has “cherries” covering his eyes, for the Strawberry Fruit on the Bottom yogurt, he has “strawberries” over his eyes! I think it’s cute!)

So, as a change from the standard blueberry and strawberry yogurts I usually have for the fruit on the bottom options, I decided to try the Stonyfield Farm Organic Fat Free Fruit on the Bottom Black Cherry yogurt. Cherries usually remind me of the summer- a fruit I usually nosh on at the beach, at my house, wherever! They are a great and delicious fruit.

What I love about Stonyfield Farm yogurts is the consistency. Even the fat free versions have a creamy and thick texture to the yogurts that I love. This one also did not let me down. The yogurt on top had a very faint hint of cherry flavor, otherwise was plain. On the bottom, was the delicious cherry part. It was more of black cherry preserves for the consistency- it was jelly like with bits of cherries scattered throughout, and dark in color. It wasn’t too tart, but not overly sweet. There was also a decent  amount of the fruit. As a whole, I enjoyed this yogurt. I like that it tasted real and pure. I do wish it was a tad bit sweeter, but overall, a very refreshing and delicious yogurt.  Although there is added sugar, there is no high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners/flavors. Woohoo! 4 stars :)

One 6 oz container is 120 calories, 0 grams of fat, 22 carbohydrates, less than 1 gram of fiber, 22 grams of sugar, and 6 grams of protein.

Cultured Pastuerized Organic Nonfat Milk, Organic Cherries, Naturally Milled Organic Sugar, Pectin, Natural Flavor, Organic Elderberry Juice Concentrate (for color), Vitamin D3.
