Health Kismet Incredible Greens

Author: Healthnuttxo

Something new to try! I was offered to try Health Kismet Incredible Greens for free. It has a bunch of awesome stuff in it, and you know I’m a sucker for anything with a bunch of healthy ingredients! Take a look!

But what to mix it with? I was given some suggestions, and had to work with what I had available in my teeny tiny apartment (hence teeny tiny fridge…)

I tried mixing it with water first. Mildy minty aroma, and turned the water a very dark green once mixed. The flavor isn’t bad- it’s mildy sweet, but also has a bit of flavor to it. It reminds me of that flavor that protein drinks sometimes have, but it’s very subtle since I mixed it with water. I wouldn’t say I would like to drink it like this all the time, but it’s certainly not bad.

What I liked about it mixed with the water is that it wasn’t grainy. It mixed really smoothly, and I wouldn’t have been able to tell it was a power addition by drinking it. As in, it didn’t feel “piecy” in my mouth at all, I just felt like I was drinking a flavored water beverage.

NEXT UP,  in some chunky applesauce. It may not look super pretty but…

how did it taste?

Not bad! I really couldn’t taste too much of the powder. I added about half a scoop since it was a 4 oz cup of applesauce. It provided a tiny bit of flavor, almost providing a “creamy” aspect to the applesauce. But really, it didn’t hinder the flavor of the applesauce too much, and I kind of liked it !

This could totally be used on halloween too for it’s green and spooky appearance. Green Goblin grub, anyone?? ;)

Lastly, I tried it in some cranberry juice! Cranberry juice is super healthy and one of my favorite juices. I figured the tart flavor of the cranberry might go good with the Incredible Greens.

It was a pretty good paring! As predicted, I didn’t taste too much of the Greens, but it gave a creamy-ish texture to the juice and a “creamier taste” as well. I think it was pretty good!

OVERALL, 3.5 STARS. Sometimes I think a full scoop is a little strong, so  you may want to start out with half a scoop and work your way up, depending on what you mix with. It has a bit of an acquired taste, but it’s really not too strong that when mixed with something can be a great addition. I think this product is worth a try!

You can see more about this green superfood powder and other products here.

And want to try it for yourself? For a limited time, you can get a tub of Health Kismet Incredible Greens for 50 % off. Just use the coupon code: healthnuttxo

Popcorn, Indiana Black & White Kettle Corn

Author: Healthnuttxo

POPCORN! What an awesome snack. You can get it sweet, salty, spicy, and chocolate-y too! We all know about my love for the last flavor I tried by Popcorn, Indiana (yea, that bag was gone in a day…) so I KNEW this one would be equally as good.

I opened up the bag that I got for free from the company, and saw pieces of kettlecorn, some drizzled generously in a black and white coating, and also “clumps” of popcorn. Meaning, there were “clumps” of 4-5 pieces of popcorn all being held together by a delicious black and white drizzle. Was I complaining? Nope. Not even a little :)

I tried one of the clumps. Mmm….delicious. The popcorn was light and fluffy, but still crunchy. The white and black coating was smooth and very sweet, and provided both a chocolate and vanilla type of flavor. The crunchy and slightly saltiness of the popcorn made the popcorn taste almost like chocolate covered pretzels…but better.

The popcorn was definitely on the sweet side, so I think it would go great with a glass of milk (soy, almond, moo juice, whatever fits your preferences ;-) ). But it was really good! I love black and white cookies, so black and white popcorn is certainly a new favorite.

YES, this was addictive. YES, I had more than a serving (hahaha way more than a serving…) and YES, the bag is currently gone (boo!). Therefore, this popcorn gets 4.5 stars. Glad I got a chance to try it! I believe I have seen it at Whole Foods during the holiday season. Keep an eye out, and if you have seen it please leave a comment so we can find it at the stores and enjoy! :)

And…..I may or may not have been so excited to try this that I ripped the bag. OOOOOOPS! =)

Kellogg’s Chocolate Krave cereal

Author: Healthnuttxo

Cereal is a staple for me. Every day, every morning, a bowl of the stuff with some almond milk, and usually a sliced banana. It’s delicious, and light enough to let me go to the gym after without weighing me down or feeling sick. So, needing a change from my usual (love you, Cinnamon Pecan Special K <3) I wanted something to channel my inner child. Something sugary, something chocolatey, something new.

What fit the bill? New Krave cereal!

I’ll admit. The whole “K” in place of “C” kind of bothered me. A lot. I always have this internal resentment when companies spell things wrong on purposely, whether it’s supposed to be cute or creative or not. It bothers me, because I’m nuts about spelling, and when people spell things incorrectly. It happens. And…I bought it anyway.

In the ride home, I grabbed a handful. I almost always try a new product right when I get it. Why I couldn’t wait for the drive home beats me, but hey, I was also hungry.

First I looked at the size. Tinier than I expected. For some reason I had mini-wheat sized squares oozing with chocolate filling in my head. What I got? Not so much. More of the size of my fingertip, with a very slight chocolate filling (aka barely any).

However, just because the inside wasn’t oozing, didn’t mean the chocolate flavor wasn’t there. These little guys were crunchy, sweet, and had a milk chocolate flavor.

In fact….I felt like I’ve eaten this before. WHAT did this taste like? I ate more and more trying to figure it out, but couldn’t. It wasn’t until I threw the box to my brother and had him try some that he said “these taste like Cookie Crisp” that the lightbulb went off in my head.

A-HA!!!! COOKIE CRISP! So if you are a fan of that cereal, you’ll love this one. Chocolatey, yet hint of vanilla, and that salty sweet flavor going on as well. I think they are WAY too sweet for a morning cereal (I tried, and instantly put it back in my pantry) but for snacking, they are delicious! I didn’t even need milk, and I just ate them straight from the box.

I know what you’re thinking. Surely this cereal is full of fillers and yuck and yadda yadda this and yadda yadda that. WRONG! I hope you are pleasantly surprised. The ingredients aren’t half bad!

YES, sugar is listed before whole grain oat flour which is a bit of a letdown, but I’ll let it slide….for now.

So, all in all, 4 stars. Yum!

And the nutritionals…

Something new to try! I got a free box of Nimble bars by Balance bar. I was excited, especially when I heard that they had a PEANUT BUTTER flavor. Like music to my ears…

I also love that the bars have calcium, fiber, protein and are sweetened with truvia! More nutritional music to my  ears (wait…what??)

Plus, something new, there is lutein, beta-carotene and antioxidants c and e which are good for the skin (“when consumed daily for 2 weeks” as the box says).

And…. only 120 calories each! Nice. However, to throw a con in there, they are a bit on the tiny side :/

However, let the review of the flavors commence. The bar itself was very soft, and chewy, and also quite dense. The flavor was ok, not super peanut buttery, but I can tell its “peanut butter flavored”. It was sweet but not too sweet, but NOT sugary tasting. It also had that salty flavor, and a little bit of an aftertaste.

I noticed that both bars had tiny little orange dots in them. If you look closely at the pic, you can see it!

This one gets 3.5 stars

Next up, the Yogurt Orange Swirl-

I noticed that it was sweeter than the peanut butter flavor, but also soft and chewy. It had  a rather good orange flavor, and actually tasted kind of like a creamsicle! Mmm : )

This one also had a tad bit of saltiness to it, but I enjoyed it as a whole. This one also gets 3.5 stars

Overall, pretty good. Have water nearby as they made me crave a cup of it! They are kinda tiny which is something to note, but I like the nutritional facts, the ingredients, and the flavor is quite good. AND only 4 grams of sugar! Woo! Two thumbs up!

I dont know about you, but I LOVE cranberry juice. Tart, yet sweet, and just delicious. One thing about juice? Super easy to drink, and full of calories. Which is good if it’s 100% fruit juice and your only having a glass every now and then, but if leaves me feeling unsatisfied (still hungry!!) and I always want more!

So, I was contacted to see if I wanted to try Cranberry Naturals Cranberry Apple and Cranberry Grape Juice Cocktails for free. According to the bottles, these are reduced calorie juice cocktails that are sweetened with truvia. They also have no HFCS (yay!) and have “no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners”.

Sounds good to me!

I tried the Cranberry Apple flavor first.

It had a yummy apple juice smell to it, with just a hint of cranberry.  It definitely tasted like a hybrid of apple and cranberry juice. The sweetness of the apple blended with the tartness of the cranberry. It wasn’t as sweet as usual and had a more milder flavor, but was still pretty good. I actually really liked it!

Next up, the Cranberry Grape flavor.

I liked this one even more! I could certainly taste more of the grape flavor, but since it wasn’t super sweet it took on more of a white grape juice flavor. The cranberry flavor got a little bit lost, but there was still a mild tartness to it that I enjoyed.

Overall, these are delicious! I honestly could not really tell it was a reduced calorie drink, because the sweetness and flavor were both present in each flavor. I would love to buy these in the future and introduce them to you guys!

New product alert! I was contacted to see if I wanted to try some new bars for free from Kraft! They are the MilkBite Milk & Granola Bars, that come in two flavors, Chocolate and Strawberry.

What’s different about these bars? You have to refrigerate them! As the box indicated, they are “made with real milk”, so it’s best to “store in the fridge!” And….gotta love that they have as much calcium as a glass of milk! (8 oz)

I opened up the boxes of the Chocolate and Strawberry MilkBite bars and noticed they were standard sized granola bars. Not too big, not too small, about the size of my hand. Here’s what they looked like unwrapped

I tried the chocolate one first (for obvious reasons). Upon first bite….love! It was chewy yet still dense, and really good. It reminded me of cookie dough upon my first bite- like the little pieces you get in ice cream. So yummy! It didn’t have an overpowering chocolate flavor, but more like accented with chocolate flavor. It also reminded me of those Chocolate Chip Chewy Bars by Quaker. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and really quite enjoyable.  I mean really…what’s not to love about a granola bar that provides calcium and tastes like cookie dough!?

Next up, the strawberry flavor. This one was also good, but definitely sweeter. It had that tangy yet sweet strawberry flavor, and a white drizzle on top of the bar that reminded me of white chocolate. The dried pieces of strawberry in the bar added a nice touch. I noticed that this bar was softer than the chocolate flavored one, and a bit more chewy.

Overall, both are winners, and both are unique. I think they are good to eat before the gym, which is probably what I will do since I dont want the bar sitting my in my bag all day if it should be refrigerated. I think it depends on my mood for which one I want to eat. Chocolate and more savory? Chocolate flavor! If I want more of a fruity and fresh flavor, and perhaps a bit more sweet, strawberry flavor! These were a bit high in saturated fat and sugar, but not too bad. Overall, 4 stars.

Zico Premium Chocolate Coconut Water

Author: Healthnuttxo

I know what you might be thinking if your not a foodie or don’t like to stray beyond the “norm” when it comes to foods and beverages- coconut water? Chocolate coconut water?

Well…..don’t. Especially if it’s this one, Zico Premium Chocolate Coconut Water. It’s SO GOOD!

I picked it up at the store after I felt like I needed a little boost. It was one of those days. Those slept through my alarm clock, couldn’t find the appropriate outfit to wear, and walked too close to the edge of the sidewalk so a car came and splashed a puddle on me days.

*sigh*

What I really needed was a giant cookie (and maybe a hug), but for some reason, this gem called my name.

It reminded me a lot of chocolate milk. Sweet but not overly sweet, but with a yummy chocolate flavor, but I can tell it was dark chocolate. However, I’m not a big dark chocolate fan at ALL, and I was really happy drinking this, as it was a mild “dark” flavor. I didn’t really taste any coconut, which I dont know if I was supposed to or not since it’s water from coconut. It was thinner in consistency than milk would be, but still had a creamy taste.

Overall, I really liked it! I would definitely buy it again. Unique, and delicious :) . And look at those health benefits!

4 stars

Ohhhhhhhhh man. Who knew they even MADE popcorn like this right? Dark Fudge Chocolate Chip KETTLEcorn? That’s like chocolate on top of amazing-ness….Am I right?

I got this bag for free from the company, but I highly recommend you go out and buy yourself one. Seriously.  There are no words for this popcorn besides that it’s one of the best things I have ever eaten (have I ever lied to you before???)

You want sweet? check. You want salty? check. You want CHOCOLATE? check! You get all three! (Ok…now onto the review, since I’m starting to sound like a TV Advertisement (“but that’s not all!!…” ;] )

The sweet and sugary tasting kettlecorn was crunchy and also had a bit of saltiness going on. Almost every piece of popcorn had some chocolate on top of it. The chocolate coating was rich, smooth and sweet, and just the perfect addition to the kettlecorn. It did have a dark chocolate flavor, but was also sweet enough that a milk-chocolate lover like myself could enjoy it.

This popcorn was like a twist on chocolate covered pretzels. So many delicious flavors, all in one! And seriously addictive. I would be lying if I told you I only had one serving (jokes!). Good thing the serving size was rather decent, I weighed a nice portion of it, and it was only a little bit over 28 grams (the serving size).

On the down side (womp womp), this snack is kind of high in sugar ( 12 grams per serving) and saturated fat ( 4.5 grams per serving). BUT, it’s so good! Eat in moderation (and…don’t eat the whole bag in one sitting!!) and you are good to go. This is a must try! 4.5 stars

If you could drizzle anything on popcorn, what would it be? Uhh peanut butter and jelly popcorn anyone?? (hints to you, Popcorn, Indiana!)

I’m hesitant to post anything even mentioning the word “snow”. It may be bad luck. So far, where I live, we lucked out and got little to hardly ANY of the white fluffy stuff. And, call me boring, but I’m glad. I hate snow. 1-2 inches? Sure. Enough to get the ground looking pretty and the feel of winter really in the air. 1-2 feet of snow? Me hauling the shovel for 2 hours with frostbitten fingers and then a useless back the next day and sore body? Driving in that slippery stuff to get to work? Looking at the gray, gross and dirty snow a few days after the storm? Noooo. Me no likey.

SO, if it snows upon me posting this review, I apologize. And if it snows upon me posting this review and you like snow, then, hey, you’re welcome! But if it actually does snow I may be freaked out just a tad…

ANYWAY- I went to Crumbs Bake Shop and ordered the Chocolate Snowball Cupcake. It just appealed to me. It didn’t have a ton of toppings, and was simple, shiny and looked really good. Come to think of it, I’m not a big sprinkles person, and this cupcake was rimmed with sprinkles, so I don’t really know why I bought it. Impulse buy. *Sigh*

However, I am glad I got it! It was $3.75, which isn’t too terrible but also not cheap, and I usually only eat half a a time anyway because it has a lot of sugar (like any dessert).

The top was a thick chocolatey layer, almost waxy in consistency, and dark chocolate in flavor. I almost wish it was a milk chocolate rather than a dark chocolate flavor, as it was a tad bit bitter. I can see why they added the dark chocolate layer, perhaps to balance out the cupcake, but I would have preferred a more milk chocolate icing/frosting flavor.

The sprinkles on the side were softer than I expected, but still added a tiny bit of crunch, and some added chocolate flavor. Underneath the chocolate layer, was a layer of chocolate mousse . I wasn’t crazy about the mousse- it was a bit too tangy for me. It had a bit of a cream cheese flavor which I didn’t really enjoy, but I did like the soft, thick and smooth texture. Lastly, my favorite part, the cake. A delicious chocolate cake- rich, moist, and fudgy, it tasted like a brownie but had cake consistency. I don’t know what they do, but  I ALWAYS like the cake part of their cupcakes! (at least the ones I have tried so far!)

Overall, a pretty good cupcake. I have yet to find a cupcake at Crumbs that I love 100%, but I will keep looking (and reviewing!!) until I find one. However, this one gets 3 1/2 stars, because it was tasty, and not as sugary-sweet as I expected it to taste.

Oh…bonus! This cupcake has only 400 calories- not bad considering I’ve seen some hefty caloric cupcakes at this place!
