Almond Milk is a STAPLE in my fridge. The people I live with at home don’t understand it. They snub my almond milk (without even trying it) and continue to drink their skim or chocolate milk, without giving almond milk a chance. Which, hey, is fine with me because almond milk is more pricy than their cow’s milk, and they drink milk like it’s going out of style. So, more for me!

So, browsing the store for an Almond Milk on sale (although, let’s be real here, I only really get Silk or Almond Breeze unless there’s a crazy sale for a store brand or something), I spotted this gem. Almond Breeze Unsweetened Almond Coconut Blend. Uh… can we say yummy? Love almond milk, even though it can be a little plain sometimes, and love coconut milk, even though it can be a little overpowering sometimes. Now I can have both??? Sweet. 😎

So I poured some onto my cereal (Cinnamon Pecan Special K….I love you) and added a no-calorie sweetener packet. Took a scoop, and was pleasantly surprised.

No.

VERY pleasantly surprised.

It was really good! The flavor of the almond and the coconut worked so well together! I tasted the almond at first, and then had the yummy coconut after taste. The blend was silky and smooth, and had the consistency of skim milk, but even creamier.  I did try a bit unsweetened with no additional sweetener packet, and the flavor was pretty much the same. The flavor is powerful and yummy enough to eat without the packet, but by default I added it as I normally buy unsweetened almond milk.

OVERALL, a definite buy! I will buy it again. Plus look at these awesome benefits.

So, overall, 4.5 stars. And at 45 calories a cup? And it’s light enough on my stomach I don’t get sick at the gym? NICE!

ProScotti Almond-Orange Biscotti

Author: Healthnuttxo

I’m a total protein convert. Don’t get me wrong. I love my carbs (especially in the form of cupcakes and cookies…oh… and bread...=) ), but I’m much more into protein, especially since I have a high activity level. Greek yogurt? Yup. Cottage cheese? Yup. Protein shakes? You bet.

So, if given the opportunity to eat something dessert-worthy, like a biscotti, WITH protein? You know I’m going to be happy about that !

I already reviewed the Mocha Chocolate Chip ProScotti. These are soft biscotti cookies with protein and omega-3’s in them as the package states.

Next up, I tried the ProScotti Almond-Orange Biscotti. They came with 2 in a pack and had a really awesome aroma to them. I thought it kind of smelled like  a cranberry almond muffins my family used to always have in the house when I was little. Every Saturday morning someone would toast up the cranberry almond muffin, and the aroma would fill the house. The smell of these ProScotti reminded me of just that.

It was very soft and almost a bit crumbly when I bit into it. It was pretty sweet, and very delicious. It had a delicious orange zest flavor, but almond undertones, and a hint of vanilla as well. I certainly think this flavor will satisfy a sweet tooth, because I felt like I could taste the sugar in it. I looked at the nutritional facts and found there to be 20 grams of sugar in the pack, so it makes sense that they are sweet.

Overall, I like these! I liked them more thanI liked the Mocha Chocolate Chip Flavor. Even though I got these for free from the company, I would certainly buy and eat them in the future. I love the protein, the omega-3’s, and that they are made with pretty minimal ingredients. The only down fall is that the sugar content is a bit high. 4 stars

Oranges- do you like them? Or could you do without them? Personally, I hate eating oranges. I like orange juice, and I LOVE clementines (or rather, I like to eat the juice out of clementines!) but something about the pulp in oranges really turns me off. I’m much more of an apple kind of girl 😉

I was provided this product to try for free from the company.

What’s better than peanut butter? How about when it’s COMBINED with almond AND cashew butter? =)

I was at Target the other day and this product caught my eye. Since I’m a huge fan of peanut butter (which you probably know by now), I thought there was no way I couldn’t like this, seeing as I do also like almond butter and cashew butter.

After purchasing the jar, it was about $5, I opened it up. There wasn’t a lot of oil on top, but it had that “loose” consistency to it, so it definitely needed a stir. After stirring it I took a taste and thought one thing this is some PASTY nut butter! It is so thick, and kind of has that consistency where a glass of milk or water or something is needed to wash it down. Unbelieveable! The taste was predominantly almonds, with some peanut flavor as well. I didn’t really taste much cashew flavor, which was a bit disappointing, but I don’t think cashews don’t have a very strong flavor to begin with. There was just a hint of saltyness, like a sea salt flavor, at the end that added a nice touch.

Overall, it is a rather delicious spread, but I cannot eat this out of the jar with a spoon without something to drink. I think it would be absolutely great on bread with sliced bananas and honey. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m going to have that for lunch…soon! 4 stars

Nutridel Pecan and Almond Cookies

Author: Healthnuttxo

Nutridel is a great brand that makes all natural, delicious cookies. These “cookies” are different than your typical chocolate chip, or sugary treat. They are filled with yummy nuts, seeds and grains, and don’t contain any refined sugar!

I tried the Oatmeal and Flaxseed varieites of the Nutridel cookies once before, but the folks over at Nutridel also sent me the Almond and Pecan flavors to try. Well- let me tell you, I LOVE THESE TWO FLAVORS! Thanks a bunch for sending me them, Nutridel, because I am now officially HOOKED!

Each cookie is flat, crunchy and about the size of a CD. You can see bits and pieces of nuts or seeds in each cookie. They all contain fiber, antioxidants, and are free of eggs, dairy, preservatives and hydrogenated oils. Sounds like my kind of cookie 😉

Almond- a pleasant almond aroma, this one has actual big slivers of almond throughout the cookie. Absolutely delicious. The almond flavor is so nice, you can even detect the “almond essences” listed in the ingredient list. Lightly sweet, but still very enjoyable.

Pecan- oh, wow, YUM! This is my favorite flavor. It has a buttery rich taste of pecans, with an almost fruity aftertaste. You can taste the light sweetness of the molasses as well. Satisfyingly crunchy and absolutely great.

Overall, I really love these 2 flavors. I give them 5 stars. Since I got my samples, I’ve already bought a few boxes of the Pecan and Almond flavors off of the website. Really, these cookies cannot be beat. Low sugar, high fiber, and made with whole wheat flour and all the good stuff! I like having these with yogurt, and I crumble them up on top of my “chocolate muffin/pudding sundae” for a nutritious boost and healthy crunch!

1 cookie is 59 calories, 1-2 grams of fat, 14 carbohydrates, 1.5-2 grams of fiber, 4 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein.

Almond- Whole Wheat Flour, Wheat Bran, Amaranth, Almonds, Molasses, Sunflower Oil and Natural Almond Essences.

Pecan- Whole Wheat Flour, Wheat Bran, Amaranth, Pecans, Molasses, Sunflower Oil and Natural Pecan Essence.
