Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte LARAbar

Author: Healthnuttxo

Look-ee what I got in the mail, as a complete surprise to me…

YEP- some Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte LARAbars! With a cute little bag, button, sticker and slice of information pie.

What a nice welcome surprise once I walked in the door and had a package waiting for me. Thanks, LARAbar!!!

Now, down to business. It looks like your standard LARAbar….

….but it’s not.

This one ROCKS!!!! I noticed the bar seemed softer than usual when I took a bite, but still had that sticky density we all know and (hopefully) love. As I kept chewing, I really loved this bar. It tastes like chocolate covered cherries!!

It was sweet and tart, with that classic date taste. But,  then you get a hint of  dark chocolate flavor and a teensy bit of crunch. I really felt like I was eating almost a cordial cherry, with chocolate covered coating. This is definitely one of my new favorite Larabars!! And, according to the wrapper, this baby is Gluten Free and gives 1/2 of a fruit serving. What’s not to love??

Overall, this gets 4 1/2 stars. Really delicious! I will definitely buy in the future!!

What’s your favorite food involving cherries? I cant say I would turn down a slice of cherry pie ;)

chipped nail polish. *sigh* forgive me??? ;)

As a kid growing up, I was always told “Greens are Ninja Turtle food”. If we wanted to be strong and cool (or just be a ninja turtle for that matter), we had to eat our green vegetables. Oh and the fact that dessert wasn’t allowed to be eaten until the vegetables were gone probably had something to do with it too. But that’s besides the point.

And, well, I’ve eaten my fair share of green vegetables over the years and I’ve yet to see any transformation. Just saying.

But anyway, hoping to come to the green rescue is the Amazing Grass Organic GreenSuperFood Whole Food Energy Bar. According the the wrapper of the bar, it is organic, raw, vegan, gluten free, dairy and soy free, and has no sugar added.

It had a slighty fruity smell, almost like a date. The bar was very dense, but also soft to chew. The taste was pretty fruity, and surprisingly sweeter than I had expected. It reminded me sort of like a raspberry flavored fruit leather, but softer, and definitely not as sweet. It also reminded me of what the inside of a fig newton tasted like, but again, not as sweet. The tiny pieces of walnuts that were in the bar I liked, because it added a bit more flavor.

Overall, not too bad, but not my favorite. It was lackluster for me, but the nutritional facts were impressive. Chock full of awesome ingredients, such as organic dates, organic wheat grass, organic flax lignans and more. I felt as if it truly was a bar from nature, and green inspired. However, it wasn’t so good as to where I would buy it again (although I recieved this sample for free). And even though it was sugar free, I felt like I wanted to drizzle icing on it. Curse my sweet tooth. 2 1/2 stars

Have you ever watched the Ninja Turtles? Which one was your favorite? Leonardo was mine =)

Pro Bar Apple Cinnamon Crunch

Author: Healthnuttxo

I scored  a few free bars from ProBar, such as the Sweet & Savory Maple Pecan Bar, and the Apple Cinnamon Crunch bar. I was hungry the other day, and in the mood to try something new, so I opened up the Apple Cinnamon Crunch bar to give it a try. I was sure I was going to like it- I love apples & cinnamon!

A quick few things about these bars, they are vegan, organic, and I found out online that this one is “70% Raw” and also has “Omega 3: 650 mg per bar” and “Omega 6: 720 mg per bar”. I thought that was pretty cool, a lot going on this bar!

I opened up the package was greeted to a rather thick bar, brownish in color, with visible chocolate chips scattered throughout. Examining closely I also saw a good deal of flax seeds and an occasional nut. I took a bite, and found it to be chewy and very soft, except the for the nuts providing an little bit of crunch. It was pretty apple-y in flavor, which I liked, and really quite tasty!! The apple flavor kind of reminded me of apple pie, with just a very light cinnamon aftertaste.

Overall, I really liked this bar. However. The one thing I did not like, and I also did not like with the Sweet & Savory Maple Pecan Flavor was the chocolate chips. They are way too bitter for me, and I did not enjoy them at all. Not a big deal, I can always pick them out of the bar and enjoy the rest, but I do wish that they could be swapped for something else! Otherwise, 4 stars

1 bar is 370 calories, 18 grams of fat (4 saturated), 49 grams of carbohydrates, 8 grams of fiber, 25 grams of sugar and 9 grams of protein.

Since this one reminded me of apple pie, what’s YOUR favorite flavor of pie? I think I’d have to say, mine really is apple!

Luna Bar Chocolate Chunk

Author: Healthnuttxo

The one thing that seems to always hit my sweet tooth? Cookies. I prefer cookies over brownies or cupcakes, or any other sweet. So of course I was excited to hear Luna came out with a Chocolate Chunk flavor, and I was sent a free bar to try in the mail =)

First, I was impressed with the nutritional stats- only 11 grams of sugar , 180 calories, and 9 grams of protein for the whole bar. But how did it taste?

It certainly did remind of a cookie. It  was chewy and soft, yet crispy at the same time. It was “salty” in a way that I needed water to drink with this bar, kind of like when someone eat pretzels. It just craves a drink! There was also just a hint of vanilla flavor. The chocolate pieces were the best part- big and they had a nice bite them. Smooth in consistency, and  kind of like a cross between dark and milk chocolate, not too sweet and not too bitter.

Overall, pretty good. I felt that of the Luna bars I have tried in the past, (like one of my favorites, here! ) this one wasn’t as sweet as the others. However, I still liked it, and I loved the chocolate pieces throughout the bar. I would eat this again. 4 stars

Whats your favorite Luna Bar flavor?

1 bar is 180 calories, 5 grams of fat, 26 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 11 grams of sugar and 9 grams of protein.

I happen to be a big fan of Clif Bars. My all time favorite ones would have to be the Chocolate Chip and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut and also the Clif Crunch Peanut Butter & White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Granola Bars. They have some pretty tasty foods!

Today’s review is the Blueberry Crisp Energy Bar that I was sent to try for free. I wasn’t exactly thrilled in the beginning to try this one for some reason, I like blueberries and all but I thought they might taste funky in a granola or energy bar. But who am I to judge something solely on it’s name or appearance? Speaking of which, here’s how it looked

The thing that always gets me about Clif Bar & Company energy bars is that they seem tiny, but they actually ARE quite filling. I find them perfect to eat on an empty stomach for an early morning workout before I eat breakfast or whatnot to tie me over.

When I opened the package I immediately smelled a fragrant blueberry aroma. I took a bite, and noticed it was actually pretty sweet. Not sweet like candy, but I could certainly detect a good amount of sweetness. It kind of reminded me of a blueberry filling to a pie or a blueberry pancake syrup sort of flavor. It was crunchy from the almonds, chewy, and soft at the same time. I actually really liked the consistency of this bar, it had a lot going on. There were good sized pieces of nuts, which were fresh and crunchy, and added something special to the bar.

Overall, this bar was better than I thought it would be, and actually quite tasty. THe only drawback for me is that it has 21 grams of sugar per bar. Then again, I believe it’s intended to be an energy bar, so I’m sure some of those carbohydrates and sugar will we used up in the workout! 4 stars

1 bar is 240 calories, 5 grams of fat, 43 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fiber, 21 grams of sugar and 9 grams of protein.

Did you ever eat something you thought wasn’t going to be that good, and it surprised you? What was it?

I’ve reviewed some Nonuttin’ products here before, and to add to the list will be the Chocolate Chip and Raisin bars.

Here’s a picture I took of them below-So as you can see, pretty good with the toppings, and rather thin bars. According to the packages, the bars are gluten free, Dairy Free, Egg Free, Tree Nut Free, and Peanut Free. Last time I tried one of these I remember the bar sort of fell apart as I ate it, so I hoped these bars would be better.

I tried the raisin first. The raisins were really tasty- chewy and sweet. This bar didn’t fall apart as I had expected and was actualyl quite delicious! It was crunchy and chewy at the same time, and sweet with a good cinnamon flavor. It reminded me of an oatmeal raisin cookie- Yummmy!!

Next up- chocolate chip. This one was also really tasty- sweet, milk chocolate flavor, that was also chewy and crunchy, but not as crunchy as the raisin, and overall really good. Delicious!

Overall, very good products! Sometimes when I get a food product that caters to so many allergies like being dairy free, gluten free, etc. it often has a funny texture or sometimes has an off taste- but these were very good! I would totally eat both of these as a snack, and they are both only 120-130 calories each. Sounds good to me! 4 stars!

Raisin- 1 bar
is 120 calories, 4 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 7 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein

Chocolate Chip- 1 bar is 130 calories, 5 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Oh, and if you haven’t entered the coupon giveaway and you want to, here’s a link to do so! : )

I was sent to try these bars for free from Nonuttin’.

Raw Crunch Bars seem totally cool to me, and are unlike other products I have tried in the past. According to the wrapper, these bars are “Handmade, Uncooked, Unprocessed” and are also “Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Peanut Free”. That’s a lot to offer for one bar, and certainly intriguing.
However, according to the website, “All of our bars are Gluten-free, Soy-free, Dairy-free, Peanut-free & Raw, with the exception of our Organic Dark Chocolate variety. The chocolate pieces in this bar are not soy-free or raw.”

Well, the company sent me some of these bars to try, and the first thing I noticed when I opened the bars, was that these are certainly NOT like anything I have had in the past. There are soooo many nuts and seeds! I’m used to bars that are mostly oats/granola, with a few sprinkles of nuts or needs, or raisins, etc. Nope! These bars had visible flaxseeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds! Just TONS! I also noticed that both bars pretty much had the same flavor, with the exception of the variation of blueberries or dark chocolate. To me that both had a rather strong pumpkin/sunflower seed flavor, and were very lightly sweet, with a slightly salty aftertaste. I actually quite enjoyed both bars, as they were unique, yet tasty. The Raw Crunch Bar with Organic Dark Chocolate was tasty- but lacking in the chocolate department. The dark chocolate pieces were tasty, a lightly sweetened flavor, but I only got about 5 chips in the whole bar : (

On the other hand, the Raw Crunch Bar with Organic Blueberries, there was a LOT more blueberries! Sweet and small, they sort of reminded me of the type of blueberries that are in blueberry muffins or pancakes. Not plump and juicy, but small and sweet.

Overall, I give these both 4 stars. I love that one bar has only 10 grams of carbohydrates, with 3 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein. A really satisfying snack!

1 bar (28 grams) is 150 calories, 10 grams of fat, 10 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 5 grams of sugar, and 5 grams of protein.

Bora Bora Organic Foods bars

Author: Healthnuttxo

Bora Bora Organic Foods- doesn’t the name just make you feel like you are on vacation? I know it did for me! Bora Bora Organic Foods sent me some of their bars to try (along with a cute mug and t-shirt- thanks, guys!! =) ), and I must say they were quite unlike anything I have tried before. These bars come in a variety of flavors, and, according to the website, fall under 3  categories- “SUPERFOOD”, “ENERGY”, and “ANTIOXIDANT”. I tried the Tribal Cinnamon Oatmeal and Tiki Blueberry Flax bars.

Tribal Cinnamon Oatmeal- this one falls under the “ENERGY” category, and is also vegan and gluten free. I must say this one was certainly DELICIOUS! Chewy and sweet, it reminded me of an oatmeal cookie. I just loved the cinnamon flavor- absolutely delicious. There were also little crisp rice pieces throughout the bar, and chewy, sweet apple pieces. I also loved that this bar was only 5 grams of fat. Woo! 4 1/2 stars

Tiki Blueberry Flax- this one falls under the “ANTIOXIDANT” category, and is also vegan and gluten free. Not as sweet as the Tribal Cinnamon Oatmeal bar, but still pretty good. I liked te big, crunchy almonds, which balanced nicely with the chewy crisp rice. The raisins and the blueberries added the sweetness, although it was mild. I also tasted a little bit of flaxseed aftertaste, and a pumpkin seed flavor. 3 stars

Tribal Cinnamon Oatmeal- 1 bar is 170 calories, 5 grams of fat, 26 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 14 grams of sugar, and 4 grams of protein.

Tiki Blueberry Flax- 1 bar is 180 calories, 9 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 8 grams of sugar, and 5 grams of protein.

Kardea Nutrition Bars

Author: Healthnuttxo

One of my favorite things to eat on the go is different type of bars- granola bars, cereal bars, fruit bars. Not only do I find them convenient, but most of the time quite tasty too!

Kardea Nutrition sent me a few of their bars to try. According to the website, here is some information about these bars..

  • Plant Sterols-1 gram
  • Total Fiber-7 grams with 5 grams Soluble Fiber
  • Heart Healthy Soluble Fiber-3grams
  • Protein-7 grams with 3.5 grams Soy Protein
  • Vegetarian-Friendly (Chai Spice & Banana Walnut Are Vegan)
  • Kosher Certified
  • Only 150 Calories/Bar
  • No Trans Fats
  • Lower Glycemic Formulation

Well, these certainly sound good! But how do they taste? I decided to try the Cranberry Almond and Banana Nut varieties. One thing I noticed about these bars is that the texture is unlike anything I have ever eaten in the past- very chewy and quite dense- it kind of reminded me of fruit leather, but softer, or maybe perhaps fruit snacks. I was expecting something harder or crunchy, but these were certainly different! I also really liked that these bars provided a good amount of both fiber and protein. Hooray! :)

Cranberry Almond- what a yummy cranberry flavor! I liked that the cranberry flavor was not too tart, which sometimes makes me not like cranberry flavored products. It had a good amount of sweetness as well. I also liked the little crunchy pieces, which I would imagine were the almonds and the oats, that added a little bit of texture. 4 stars

Banana Nut- ooh, also pretty good! It reminded me of like a sticky banana bread, actually. It had a sweet banana flavor, with just a hint of nutmeg. I also really liked the walnut taste- went perfect with the banana flavor. It overall was quite a sweet bar, but tasty!! 4 1/2 stars

Each bar is 140 calories, 5 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbohydrates, 9-11 grams of sugar, 7 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein.

Hey- I have an idea. Let’s post another review about CHOCOLATE! I can’t get enough! Maybe that’s why I can’t sleep lately… is it the caffeine? (Just Kidding!)

Anyway- Nugo is a brand that makes a bunch of products that are suitable for many different lifestyles. According to the pamphlet I was sent along with some yummy bars from the company, they have..
“Nugo Family – Low Glycemic
NuGO Organic- USDA Certified Organic
NuGo Dark- Real Delicious Dark Chocolate
Gluten Free- Soy, Wheat and Dairy Free
KeriBar- Fruit and Fiber
Smarte Carb- Sugar Free”

Wow- so many options! Of the products I was sent, I recieved the Nugo Nutrition Bar in Peanut Butter Chocolate and Nugo Dark Mocha Chocolate Bar. What I like about both of these bars is that they incorporate chocolate in a healthier way- these bars are both good sources of protein, all natural, and relatively low in fat and calories. I’m ready to try ‘em!

Nugo Nutrition Bar Peanut Butter Chocolate- this one had a chewy texture, kind of like a cross between a Rice Krispie Treat and a Luna Bar. It was actually pretty sweet, too. However, there was not much of a peanut butter flavor (aw, man!), and come to think of it, the chocolate flavor isn’t too strong either. However, the “lightness” or both flavors compliments each other- one flavor doesn’t really outshine the other. There is also a smooth and sweet layer of milk chocolate on the bottom. The taste overall kind of reminded me of peanut butter M&M’s- a salty sweet mix of peanut butter and chocolate. 3 1/2 stars

NuGo Dark Mocha Chocolate Bar- From the first bite- you can DEFINITELY taste the mocha flavor in this bar! I agree with the website’s description, which states, “Coffee Lovers, meet your new favorite gourmet snack”. If you like coffee, and you like chocolate, you WILL like this bar! You can even smell the mocha aroma after opening the package. Seeing as I’m not too much of a coffee drinker, I was actually surprised I liked this bar as much as I did. It’s COVERED in smooth dark chocolate, that wasn’t too bitter, which I liked. It’s chewy, but still has some texture and a bite to it. Again, it reminded me of a chocolate covered Rice Krispie Treat. It was sweet, and actually pretty good. This one gets 4 stars, and although it has 10 grams of protein, I think I’ll treat it as more of a “healthy candy bar” than a protein bar. (It’s also vegan and dairy free!)

Overall, I approve. These bars are all natural and offer a little something for everyone. What I don’t like is that some of the bars have corn syrup (boo!), and are a bit high in sugar. But, I’d still like to try the NuGo Chocolate Chocolate Chip flavor- that one sounds right up my alley- and some of the KeriBars (the fruit and fiber bars) if I ever see them in stores by me.

*Have you ever tried any NuGo bars? If so, which ones?
