Sahale Snacks Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

Author: Healthnuttxo

Oh it’s that time again- review and giveaway!!!

Valdosta Pecans- these ROCK. Seriously, so yummy. Rich, buttery pecans, that are slightly spicy, slightly salty, and have an almost sweet glaze (very light) on them. They accented with dried cranberries, about the size of a pea, that weren’t too tangy. The little bit of heat, which I would assume is from the “black pepper” listed on the front. Really great combination- salty, sweet, and spicy! Really tasty, and SATISFYING too!- I could totally eat the whole bag! 4 1/2 stars

Sing Buri Cashews- wow, what FLAVOR! There are little pieces of pineapple that taste fantastic– sweet, NOT tangy at all, and great flavor. Then, there’s a spiciness, and a sesame seed flavor which counteracts the sweetness. There are cashews mostly, but also some peanuts, that have a spicy/salty flavor to them, almost like red pepper or a hot tomato flavor. Another great salty/spicy/sweet combination- but this one has a bit more heat. DEELISH! 4 stars

I got an e-mail from Ms. Fortune from Sahale Snacks, saying that they are now available at Seattle’s Best Coffee. It stated in the e-mail…

“Valdosta and Sing Buri nut blends debuted at Seattle’s Best Coffee counters in convenient 2-ounce pouches — enough to share with a friend over coffee or to satisfy a morning and an afternoon snack craving.

Sahale Snacks’ rich and peppery Valdosta Pecans pair especially well with Seattle’s Best Coffee winter beverages, like Vanilla Cinnamon Latte. The spicy and exotic Sing Buri Cashews make a lively accompaniment to tea, espresso, and brewed coffee drinks.”

So if you have access to Seattle’s Best Coffee- lucky you!!  : )

* I was sent the Valdosta Pecans and Sing Buri Cashews from Sahale Snacks for review*

Combining two of my favorite things- chocolate and cashews, is Yumnuts Naturals. This company makes these snacks without any artifical colors, flavors or preservatives, no added oil, and they are gluten free. They come in 6 flavors, Sea Salt, Spicy Cajun, Toasted Coconut, Honey , Chocolate and Chili Lime. According to the website, “Nuts contain the protein, smart fats, like oleic acid, and essential minerals to help us perform at our best. We use the best natural ingredients to create a product with a simple ingredient statement that is both healthy and yummy. We start with premium jumbo cashews and use a special flavoring technique to add a delicate dose of delicious seasonings that ensures that every Yumnut, in every batch is truly yum.”

The folks over at Yumnuts Naturals sent me the Chocolate Slow Dry Roasted Cashews to try, and I was so excited! I opened the bag up once I received them, and had a few. I can certainly agree with the “YUM” aspect of this product! These were awesome! I especially liked that the cashews were pretty big- and there weren’t a lot of halves or pieces in the bag. Each buttery tasting cashew was covered with a sweet, light chocolatey coating, that gave a little bit of a crispy crunch to the outside. Really delicious, and what a snack! It satisfied both my hunger and my sweet tooth, and it certainly was hard to put away the bag after having some of these!

These get 4 1/2 stars in my eyes. Absolutely delicious and just a great alternative when you want something both savory, satisfying AND sweet!  The ONLY reason these don’t get 5 stars is because they have added sugar, but is still only 6 grams of sugar per serving.

*You can try these Yumnuts Naturals for yourself! From now until JULY 29th 2010, you can get 25 % discount off your purchase from the website when you put in the coupon code NUTS25 * How great is that! 🙂

NuttZo Multi-Nut Butter

Author: Healthnuttxo

I’m sure everyone has heard of NuttZo, the multi nut butter. Not only does it have peanuts, it has cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, sunflower seeds AND flaxseeds, all in one spread. I have seen that it’s very popular in bloggie world, so I was excited when the company sent me a jar of their organic nutty spread.

Some facts about this nut butter before I begin…
1. It provides 50% of your daily needs of ALA Omega 3 per serving with 650 mg.
2. all the ingredients are organic & kosher
3. There is no sugar added (yay!)
4. This nut butter is actually stored upside down for easy stirring (it’s about time a nut butter company got smart!! 😉 ) All you have to do is open, stir and then refrigerate with the lid up (the words will be upside down).
5. NuttZo is also a sponsor/supporter or ProjectLeftBehind.

Okay, so it has some awesome facts. But how does it taste?

Well, if you like love nuts and seeds, you will like love this nut butter! Seriously- I opened up the jar, and there were TONS of nuts and seeds. Think of Skippy Chunky Peanut Butter- and then multiply by 5. You CANNOT get a tablespoon without a nut or a seed on it, ESPECIALLY flaxseeds. There are some serious flax seeds going on in this jar.

look at all those nuts & seeds!

Anywho- aside from the sort of offputting appearance (in my opinion, anyway), the taste really isn’t bad. It’s very crunchy (obviously), and has an almost buttery taste. THe most prominent nut flavor to me was the flax and hazelnut. I really didn’t taste any cashew or almond flavors, but it did have a wee bit of a peanut taste, that was slightly sweet due to the fact that they were Valencia Peanuts. This nut spread certainly is satisfying, and you really only need 2 tbsp. in one sitting. I had mine straight out of the jar and on a piece of hearty whole grain bread, drizzled with honey. Since there is no sugar, it is a bit bland, so the honey played up the nutty taste quite well.

Overall, I give this 3 stars for taste, and 4 1/2 for nutrition, so a total of  3 1/2 stars. While the nutrition is excellent, I wasn’t crazy about the numerous amounts of flaxseeds, and I’m not too fond of the taste of flaxseed as well. The crunchiness was nice, however, and it was certainly satisfying. I prefer my nut butters a bit sweeter, and creamier, but if you are a fan of crunchy of chunky nut butters- give this a shot!!

Do you guys like NuttZo? What is your favorite way to eat it?

Sahale Snacks Review

“Who says indulgent can’t be healthy?”
That’s Sahale’s slogan, and I totally agree. Sahale makes all natural nut mixes and glazed nuts, that are low in sodium, no trans fats, and truly satisying. They encourage you to “Snack Better” and eat their yummy snacks. We all know how much I enjoy nuts, so it was a real treat to eat these!  They come in Nut Blends, each with a different “story” or background info, and also glazed nuts.
From the Nut Blends, i tried the Soledad and Sing Buri variety, and from the glazed nuts I tried the Cashews with Pomegranate & Vanilla, and the Almond PB&J. Now i know your getting excited, so I’ll just begin my review now 🙂

Soledad- These were almonds with apple, flax seeds, dates, balsamic vinegar and red pepper. They definietly had a kick to them, which i give credit to the cayenne pepper in these babies. The almonds were a nice consistency, a nice crunch to them. The apple bits were perfect in the mix, they took away some of the heat. I liked the sweetness and chewiness the apple bits provided. My dad really liked these, but they were a bit too spicy for me. It all depends if you like it hot 😛  3 1/2 stars

Sing Buri- these were cashews with pineapple, peanuts, lemongrass and mild chinese chili. These were also spicy, but not as spicy as the Soledad. I loved, once again, the fruit bits of pineapple. It nicely sweetened up the mix. The cashews were nice and “plump” if you will, and the peanuts were also yummy. They added a more mellow taste to the mix. The cashews are covered in sesame seeds, and are nicely salted. 4 stars!

Almond PB&J-wow. I didn’t know you could eat peanut butter and jelly in nut form. This one was rockkkkkking! Given i eat peanut butter and jelly/honey/applebutter/maple syrup sandwiches pretty much every day for lunch, i was so happy eating these. SO delicious! Each almond is coated with a sweet glaze and has bits of berries stuck to them. It actually tastes like a PB&J sandwich, minus the bread. I’m definitely getting this one again! 5 stars 🙂 🙂

Pomegranate Cashews-another winner in my eyes. The vanilla flavor is strong and delicious. It’s sweet, not oily and the little bits of pomegranate kick butt. Really, really, really addictive (not good because they are NUTS and nuts are high in calories!), but SOOO worth it!! It has a light brown sugar taste, and a wee bit of orangey flavor. So good, i ate the whole bag in 2 days. 😀 5 stars!

Overall, these rock. 4 stars for sure as a whole. They satisfied my hunger and my sweetooth (or “spice” tooth 😉 ) and were all natural and not oily or too salty at all. I also like how 1 ounce is slightly less caloric but just as satisfying nuts alone due to the pieces of fruit added. I really want to try the other flavors- especially the Valdosta Pecan!! (love pecans!!)
