Quest Bar RECIPES!

Author: Healthnuttxo

So as you may all know, I am a big fan of Quest Bars. I have done the following reviews on them where I really enjoy the taste and nutrition.

Cookies n Cream Quest Bar (um…can we say better than a sandwich cookie?)

Chocolate Peanut Butter, Strawberry Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Supreme Quest Bars (because who doesn’t like dessert flavored Quest bars?)

Lemon Cream Pie, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and Apple Pie Quest Bars (Apple Pie= noms)

Cinnamon Roll and Coconut Cashew Quest Bars (both just AMAZING)

Of all the Quest Bars, Cinnamon Roll, Coconut Cashew, and Cookies n Cream are my favorites ūüôā

So, I was shared by Predator Nutrition a nice booklet of some Quest Bar recipes! You can access it here. The Peanut Butter Pop Tart recipe sounds like it would be my favorite!

If anyone ends up trying any recipe, let me know-
OR if you have your own favorite Quest Bar recipe, Leave me a comment!

I got some new, free  bars from Health Warrior. Their Chia Bars! All of the bars are vegan, a good source of omegas, and have 100-110 calories.

The first bar I tried was the Chocolate Peanut Butter. LOADED with seeds, this one had a crunchy texture. It was a bit bland, with very mild chocolate flavor. I didn’t detect too much peanut butter flavor as well. It wasn’t really all that sweet, but for some reason, I kind of liked it. It was nutty, and tasted very real and unprocessed. Was it amazing tasting and my favorite thing ever? No. But I liked the wholesome-ness it provided. However, kindof misleading for the fact I hardly tasted any chocolate or peanut butter flavor. (sad for a pb lover like me!)¬†2 1/2 stars.

Next up, the the Acai Berry.

A bit darker in color than the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor, but still loaded with those seeds ūüôā This bar was a bit softer, and had a sweeter flavor too it. ¬†I liked it much more than the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor. It had a raspberry/pomegranate/cranberry flavor, and had a subtle tartness. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and seemed to be less crunch than the chocolate peanut butter variety. It also almost had a buttery taste to it, which I really enjoyed. Yum! 4 stars

Lastly, the coconut variety.

The softest bar of the three, and very good. Yummy coconut flavor, but none of those annoying coconut shreds (sorry…I had those haha). A mild crunch, and good flavor. It was moist and chewy, and definitely tasted coconut, without it feeling artificial or overpowering. It also had a subtle sweetness, which I enjoyed. ¬†I liked this one as well! 3 1/2 stars.

Overall, not bad! I liked the Acai Berry one the best, and I think these are a good snack bar for in-between meals! Thanks Health Warrior for letting me try these new bars!

Here is the nutritional facts for the coconut

Luna Protein Bars

Author: Healthnuttxo

Need a little extra protein in your day? Well I think I have a tasty solution for you guys, made by Luna!

I’ve had some Luna Bars before, and certainly enjoyed them. So I was excited to try the Luna Protein Bars I was sent in the mail to try, courtesy of Luna (thanks, guys!). According to the website, “The power of protein keeps you full and feeling good about it, so go ahead‚ÄĒindulge in the chocolatey, nougaty goodness of LUNA Protein. Entirely natural, satisfying and sustaining for under 200 calories.” Each bar¬†is all natural with 12 grams of protein, and¬†added vitamins and minerals. They come in three flavors, Cherry Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and¬† Cookie Dough. I was most excited to try the Cookie Dough flavor- anything cookie dough flavored HAS to be good in my eyes! ūüôā

Each bar is covered in chocolate with a dense, chewy center. I actually thought that they wouldn’t fill me up- they looked a bit tiny. I would say they are about as long as your pointer finger, and then as wide as 2 fingers. However, due to the chewy and dense nature of the bar, and the rich taste, they actually were quite filling! ūüôā

Cookie Dough- this one actually reminded me of those candies, the malted milk balls for the flavor. I really didn’t taste much cookie dough flavor, but was more of a salty/sweet chocolate-y flavor. It certainly was the sweetest of the three bars, and I felt like I needed to drink some water with it. It was still pretty yummy, but not as I had expected. 3 1/2 stars

Chocolate Peanut Butter- I liked this one better than the cookie dough flavor, and it wasn’t as sweet. It has a peanutty-taffy like center, that had that “sweet” peanut butter rather than “savory” peanut butter taste. The milk chocolate on the outside was delicious- smooth and yummy. I also liked the little bits/chunks in the bar, which I would assume to be bits of peanuts. 4 stars

Cherry Chocolate Almond- Surprisingly (and ironically), the bar I thought I would like the least, was actually my favorite!  This one was really delicious!! It tasted like a chocolate covered cherry, with the perfect amount of sweetness. It was chewy, but not as dense as the other 2 bars, and also had little bits of almonds for a tiny crunch. The chocolate on the outside was also very good, and went perfect with the cherry flavor. 4 1/2 stars

Overall, these are good. They certainly were satisfying, and quenched my appetite, especially after a hard kickboxing workout.¬†I liked that¬†they are covered with delicious chocolate, low glycemic, and packed with protein and provide¬†important vitamins and minerals¬†like calcium. What I didn’t like was that they are a bit high in saturated fat (3.5- 4 grams), and also a bit high in sugar. However, if you like protein bars and crave some sweetness, I would definitely give these a try!

Cookie DoughР1 bar is 180 calories, 6 grams of fat, 21 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar and 12 grams of protein.

Chocolate Peanut Butter-1 bar is 190 calories, 9 grams of fat, 19 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 13 grams of sugar and 12 grams of protein.

Cherry Chocolate Almond-1 bar is 180 calories, 7 grams of fat, 21 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar and 12 grams of protein.

Hey- I have an idea. Let’s post another review about CHOCOLATE! I can’t get enough! Maybe that’s why I can’t sleep lately… is it the caffeine? (Just Kidding!)

Anyway- Nugo is a brand that makes a bunch of products that are suitable for many different lifestyles. According to the pamphlet I was sent along with some yummy bars from the company, they have..
“Nugo Family – Low Glycemic
NuGO Organic- USDA Certified Organic
NuGo Dark- Real Delicious Dark Chocolate
Gluten Free- Soy, Wheat and Dairy Free
KeriBar- Fruit and Fiber
Smarte Carb- Sugar Free”

Wow- so many options! Of the products I was sent, I recieved the Nugo Nutrition Bar in Peanut Butter Chocolate and Nugo Dark Mocha Chocolate Bar. What I like about both of these bars is that they incorporate chocolate in a healthier way- these bars are both good sources of protein, all natural, and relatively low in fat and calories. I’m ready to try ’em!

Nugo Nutrition Bar Peanut Butter Chocolate- this one had a chewy texture, kind of like a cross between a Rice Krispie Treat and a¬†Luna Bar.¬†It was actually¬†pretty sweet, too. However, there was not¬†much of a peanut butter flavor (aw, man!), and come to think of it, the chocolate flavor isn’t too strong either. However, the “lightness” or both flavors compliments each other- one flavor doesn’t really outshine the other. There is also a smooth and sweet layer of milk chocolate on the bottom. The taste overall kind of reminded me of peanut butter M&M’s- a salty sweet mix of peanut butter and chocolate. 3 1/2 stars

NuGo Dark Mocha Chocolate Bar- From the first bite- you can DEFINITELY taste the mocha flavor in this bar! I agree with the website’s description, which states, “Coffee Lovers, meet your new favorite gourmet snack”. If you like coffee, and you like chocolate, you WILL like this bar! You can even smell the mocha aroma after opening the package. Seeing as I’m not too much of a coffee drinker, I was actually surprised I liked this bar as much as I did. It’s COVERED in smooth dark chocolate, that wasn’t too bitter, which I liked. It’s chewy, but still has some texture and a bite to it. Again, it reminded me of a chocolate covered Rice Krispie Treat. It was sweet, and actually pretty good. This one gets 4 stars, and although it has 10 grams of protein, I think I’ll treat it as more of a “healthy candy bar” than a protein bar. (It’s also vegan and¬†dairy free!)

Overall, I approve. These¬†bars are all natural and offer¬†a little something for everyone.¬†What I don’t like is that some of the bars have corn syrup (boo!), and are a bit high in sugar. But, I’d still¬†like to try the NuGo Chocolate Chocolate Chip flavor- that one sounds right up my alley- and some of the KeriBars (the fruit and fiber bars) if I ever see them in stores by me.

*Have you ever tried any NuGo bars? If so, which ones?

Nutrition Bar Peanut Butter Chocolate- 1 bar is 170 calories, 3 grams of fat, 26 carbohydrates, 2.5 grams of fiber, 13 grams of sugar and 11 grams of protein.

CRISPED SOY NUGGETS (ISOLATED SOY PROTEIN, RICE FLOUR, MALT AND SALT), SWEETENED CONDENSED SKIM MILK (BEET SUGAR, WATER, MILK SOLIDS NONFAT AND MILK FAT), CRISP RICE (RICE FLOUR, SUGAR, MALT EXTRACT AND SALT), MILK CHOCOLATE (DEHYDRATED CANE JUICE, WHOLE MILK POWDER, CHOCOLATE LIQUOR, COCOA BUTTER, SOYA LECITHIN (AN EMULSIFIER), AND VANILLA), CORN SYRUP, OATMEAL, BROWN RICE SYRUP, FRUCTOSE, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, PEANUT FLOUR, MALTODEXTRIN, SOY FIBER, PEANUT EXTRACT, ACACIA GUM, MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, GUAR GUM, NATURAL PEANUT FLAVOR.

NuGo Dark Mocha Chocolate Bar- 1 bar is 200 calories, 5 grams of fat, 30 carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 14 grams of sugar and 10 grams of protein.

Dark Chocolate (unsweetened chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter, soy lecithin (emulsifier), vanilla extract), Soy Crisp Nuggets (isolated soy protein, rice flour, malt and salt), Rice Crisp (rice flour, sugar, malt extract), Tapioca Syrup, Agave Sugar, Whole Oats, Soy Protein, Cocoa Powder, Soy Lecithin, Acacia Gum and Natural Coffee Flavor.

Now, I’m more of a granola bar kinda girl over protein and “energy” bars , because usually they are filled with too much protein (at least in my opinion for what I’m looking for in a bar), too much saturated fat, and too much sugar. However, PowerBar has a line of products that fit everyone’s needs. They have ones for pre workout, recovery/post workout, ones with lower sugar, etc, and all of them have all natural ingredients.

¬†I decided to try the Performance Energy Line with a coupon I was provided with by the company for a free bar- According to the website, here’s some info¬†about this bar (Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor)¬†…

  • Provides more energy to muscles with C2MAX
  • Contains 200mg sodium, a key electrolyte
  • The original energy bar
  • Low in fat, with 8‚Äď9g of protein per bar
  • No preservatives or artificial flavors”
  • These bars come in¬†several flavors, and you know me, I chose the Chocolate Peanut Butter. Because, reallly, when has the combination ever failed?

So, moving on to the bar. It’s 2.29 ounces, so about average, I’d say the size of a¬† Nutri-grain bar, but a little longer. It isn’t your typical bar, however. The texture and appearance is chewy and easy to¬†pull apart.¬†It was pretty dense, and had “crispy” rice pieces in it.¬†It was definietely sweet. The chocolate flavor overpowers the peanut butter flavor, and it takes on an almost coffee-ish taste. But, I liked it! It was tasty and I¬† actually enjoyed it. I DID need a glass of water to drink though while eating. The sodium was a tad high (200 mg) and the combination of chocolate and peanut butter just begged my mouth for some aqua.

Overall, I enjoyed this and will probably buy it again. I give it 4 stars, because it did as it promised.¬†It provided me with a ton of energy- I actually got one of the best workouts despite the fact it was 630 in the morning!¬†¬† The only thing I didn’t like was that it lacked fiber, so it isn’t a good “meal replacement” bar. But, that’s not really what it’s intended for and I think if they increased the fiber too much, it would be harder to digest. I also wish there was a bit more peanut butter flavor in it-but still yummy ūüôā

1 bar is 240 calories, 3.5 grams of fat ( 1 saturated), 44 caarbohydrates (26 sugars), 1 gram of fiber, and 9 grams of protein. You also get 25% calcium needs!

C2 MAX CARBOHYDRATE BLEND (ORGANIC EVAPORATED CANE JUICE SYRUP, MALTODEXTRIN, FRUCTOSE, DEXTROSE), OAT BRAN, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, RICE CRISPS (MILLED RICE, RICE BRAN, ROSEMARY EXTRACT), BROWN RICE FLOUR, PEANUT FLOUR, NATURAL FLAVOR, NONFAT MILK, AND 2% OR LESS OF: PEANUT BUTTER, CHOCOLATE, ALKALIZED COCOA, CANOLA OIL, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, SALT, ALMOND BUTTER, MINERALS: CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, FERROUS FUMARATE (IRON), VITAMINS: ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), VITAMIN B6 HYDROCHLORIDE, RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), THIAMINE MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1).
