Something new- Plentils by Enjoy Life Foods! But what exactly is a plentil? They are crunchy lentil chips! Wait but where did the “P” come from.

Not sure. Moving on.

I got a few free bags of the chips from Enjoy Life Foods to try for free. First one up for review, Margherita Pizza. Why? Because it was 11pm, I wanted pizza, but did NOT feel like leaving the house. I was hoping these chips would suffice a pizza craving, as well as be delicious on their own!

First of all, these chips are soooo crunchy! I really liked that, as nothing’s worse than when a chip is more oily than crunch (you know what I’m talking about!) or the chip falls apart the second it hits your mouth (also not cool…). Nope! These were light and crisp, not oily at all, and almost had a toasty-crunchy feel to them.

They were very yummy and flavorful, and surprisingly, did remind me of pizza! The pentils had a saucy and cheesy flavor to them, with undertones of basil, garlic and onion. They also had a salty flavor that was really quite good.

Overall, I like these! Don’t forget these are gluten free as well! 4 stars

Sensible Foods Crunch Dried Snacks

Author: Healthnuttxo

Sensible Foods creates unique, delicious, and crunchy snacks to fit your everyday lifestyle. They make dried fruit snacks, dried corn, and soy nuts, that are all natural, contain no preservatives, and some of them are even organic as well.  From the website, here’s some info about their goodies.

  • “Proprietary Crunch Dried process is done in a high vacuum at very low temperatures.
  • This process removes the water while maintaining the products cell structure, nutritional value, and intensifying its natural flavor.
  • Proprietary Process and packaging keeps the product fresh tasting and nutritious for an unbelievable shelf life of over two years.
  • Nice!  🙂

The company sent me their flavors to try, which come in Sweet Corn, Cherry Berry, Tropical Blend, Orchard Blend, Apple Harvest, and Dried Roasted Soy Nuts. I was excited to try these- I love crunchy, dried fruit! Not as caloric as traditional dried fruit (the chewy type) and much more fun to play around with (In recipes, of course!)

I decided to munch on Orchard Blend, Sweet Corn, and Cherry Berry.

Orchard Blend- this one is a blend of freeze-dried peach, apple and apricot. It was certainy unique, and very tasty! The peaches were my favorite part of the combination- they melted in your mouth and actually had pretty big chunks. They also tasted very fresh, which was nice. The apple pieces were small and crispy, and the apricot added a nice tangy touch.

Cherry Berry– this one is strawberries, blueberries, apples and cherries of course! There were huge cherry chunks, thet awere sweet & crispy. The  blueberries were good as well, and it was different for me, I never had a freeze-fried blueberry before! My favorite part was the strawberries! Normally, freeze dried strawberries are tart and bitter to me, but these were sweet! I was just upset because there were only a few pieces of these 🙁 There was actually a lot of apple pieces in this blend, which was surprising since it’s called Cherry Berry. Oh well.

Sweet Corn- this one is sooo good! It actually tastes like eating popcorn, but it’s the freeze dried “kernels”! It even had a buttery taste to it (but rest assured-no butter added!) and had just the right amount of salt on it. Forget popcorn- I’m eating THESE while watching my next movie

    Tropical Blend
    – this one had pineapple, mango,  apple, which was nice , sweet and crunchy, and actually thick banana slices, which were sweet and light tasting. I didn’t really detect much of the pineapple or mango, but the others were delicious!

Overall, I give these 4 1/2 stars. They are tasty, give a good portion, are all natural and are unique! I would like if they had more individual bags too (like the Apple has a bag with JUST apples), and would love it if they had JUST banana! I love banana! (ooh- imagine chocolate covered banana? Ok,,, I’m getting ahead of myself!) Definietely give these a shot if your in the mood for something crunchy, sweet (with no added sugar!!), yet healthy! These will hit the spot.

Apple Harvest- these were quite tasty, too! I loved that they tasted fresh and were crunchy, with no added sugar! I couldn’t believe how they tasted so sweet and were so natural. Nature at it’s finest!

    Newman's Own Organic Soy Crisps

    Author: healthnuttxo

So normally in the afternoon i have a yogurt (ahem, Stonyfield or Wallaby Organic. yum!) for a snack with something else that’s little, a handful of cereal, a cookie, etc. But today (after a grueling workout at the gym this morning) I was RAVENOUS! So i thought i needed something a bit more substantial than my normal yogurt.

So, i decided to give Newman’s Own Organic Soy Crisps a try. Okay now before you say EW, SOY IS GROSS, don’t even think about it. Soy crisps taste pretty much like rice cakes-but are healthier and have more satiety packed with them due to the soy protein and isolflavins that soy provides.

I have three of Newman’s flavors (which they so generously donated!), Cinnamon Sugar, White Cheddar and Barbeque. They also come in a lightly salted flavor.

Cinnamon Sugar-I opened up the bag and popped one in my mouth-delicious! They were sweet, crunchy, “cinnamonny” (if that’s a word!), in otherwords- SO GOOD! I got one soy crisp out the bowl i poured that had extra cinnamon and dehydrated cane juice on it… i was a happy camper 😉

Barbeque-tastes just like barbeque chips! My mom even asked for more after i let her try a few (which of course i declined her- get your own bag! 😉 ) There is a subtle sweetness to the BBQ flavor, but you can  taste garlic and tomato flavors as well. These were good!

White Cheddar- just the right amount of seasoning. Not too heavy, not too light. They are cheesy too, and a tad salty. You will need some water with these!!

These soy crisps are definitely a lot healthier than other chips or pretzels that people grab for a snack in the afternoon. In 1 oz. (which is about a small bowlful- a good sized amount), there are 110-120 calories, 2.5-4 grams of fat, 13-15 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, and 7-9 grams of protein. Needless to say i was definitely satisfied after eating these-they quenched my hunger quite nicely. The Cinnamon Sugar Flavor also hit the spot for the fat/sugar laden craving i have been having for Auntie Anne’s Cinnamon Sugar Hot Pretzels lately in a much healthier way. I’m going to be buying these quite often!

Cinnamon Sugar-Organic Low Fat Soy Flour, Organic Rice Flour, Salt, Seasoning (dehydrated cane juice, cinnamon and not more than 2% silicon dioxide and vegetable oil added as a processing aid), Sunflower Oil.

Barbeque-Organic Low Fat Soy Flour, Organic Rice Flour, Salt, Seasoning (dehydrated cane juice, sea salt, onion powder, garlic powder, tomato powder, extractives of paprika, natural flavor, spices, citric acid with not more than 2% sunflower oil and silicon dioxide added), Sunflower Oil.

White Cheddar-Organic Low Fat Soy Flour, Organic Rice Flour, Salt, Seasoning (cheddar cheese [cultured milk, salt, enzymes], whey buttermilk, salt, disodium phosphate), Sunflower Oil.
