Hey peeps!

I got two new flavors of Oikos Frozen Yogurt sent to me to try for free for a review. I was certainly excited! I was a frozen yogurt JUNKIE in my freshman year of college. I also didn’t count macros- I only counted calories back then. So I thought it was perfectly acceptable to eat a bowl of frozen yogurt loaded with toppings as long as I stayed in my calorie range (LOL!!). I was also a cardio bunny at the time and barely lifted a weight…oh, what a sad, sad time for me. Haha. If you like cardio, I am not knocking it, I just LOVE weight lifting!!

ANYWAY!

Off topic…because that’s how I normally do ;D… onto the fro yo! I put both flavors in a bowl

I tried the Chocolate first. It was creamy, soft and tasted just like ice cream! It was certainly sweet, and had a predominant dark chocolate flavor. It was smooth, refreshing, and very, very good! It tasted almost like those fudge Popsicles on a cardboard stick I used to eat when I was little. However, it was super creamy and not icy at all! I wouldn’t have known it was frozen yogurt if the carton didn’t say so 🙂 4.5 stars

Onto the Key Lime flavor… this one was also refreshing and sweet. It tasted honestly JUST like a key lime flavored yogurt. So if you like that flavor, you would like this ice cream. It was tangy and had a little zing at the end, that I thought might be ginger but it was not listed on the ingredient list. It was good, but I wouldn’t buy it in the future. Not my cup of tea. 3 stars

Overall, I like these! The chocolate is the way to go in my opinion. But I would love to sample more flavors! I generally stay away from sweets because of my Diabetes, especially low fat/ high sugar ones like this because of the glycemic spike, but a few tastes every now and then is awfully nice after a hard day at the gym or a sweaty, sunny day. Enjoy your day guys!

Red Mango Pumpkin Spice Frozen Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Ahh, it’s that time of year again.

I’m a summer girl at heart, but I do love fall. A time of pumpkin and apple picking (love me some candy apples!!), bringing back the UGG boots (woo!!), and….Pumpkin Spice Frozen Yogurt at Red Mango.

It came back to the establishment a few days ago, and while schedule conflicts KEPT PREVENTING ME from getting there, I finally did. And so glad I did too!

I got a small Pumpkin Spice, with graham cracker topping and mango pieces as well.  I believe it was around the higher side of 4 dollars. The pumpkin spice yogurt itelf is amazing. It was smooth in consistency, and thick but not thick like greek yogurt. It was sweet but not too sweet, and just the right amount of tartness. Enough so you can taste it, but not enough to make you scrunch your face up saying that’s TART! So, a good balance in my eyes. There was a mild yet yummy pumpkin flavor.

The graham cracker topping was finely chopped, and even resembled sawdust (although, THAT’S not a recommended fro yo topping!! ; ) ) . It added a pumpkin pie kind of feel to the yogurt, and had a slight honey flavor, which I really enjoyed.

Lastly, the mango chunks were perfect! Sweet and very soft, and not tart at all! A few times I have gotten frozen yogurt, the mango chunks were very firm and very tart. Yes…I am guilty of going in the dead winter when it is practically 0 degrees outside, so I’ve had my fair share of exposure to toppings and flavors- I think it’s safe to say these mango chunks were very delicious, and perfect on the frozen yogurt.

Overall, I would definitely get this again. I wish there were more Red Mango establishments nearby where I live, as I would get it more often! Although maybe it’s a good thing there aren’t too many…I would spend my whole paycheck there 😉

4 1/2 stars

What’s your favorite season and why? There has to be someone out there who loves winter, right??  ; )

Yep- I tried it! I saw NEW flavor at Red Mango, and I just HAD to try it. Seeing as the recently reviewed Peanut Butter flavor at Red Mango was a winner with me, I certainly couldn’t wait to try the Raspberry Cheesecake!

I decided to go for different toppings rather than my usual granola and banana, and got fresh raspberries and Mochi as toppings. When I got my frozen yogurt, I felt I had received a little less  yogurt than normal, I was missing that classic fun “swirl” at the top! Here’s how it looked

Upon first bite, I knew I had found my new favorite flavor. I’m upset that it’s a seasonal flavor. WHY oh WHY do I ALWAYS fall in love with the seasonal items?! (;

It wasn’t as tart as the other Red Mango flavors I have had in the past. It was creamy, sweet, and had an awesome raspberry flavor. Very fresh, and very delicious. As for the cheesecake aspect, I didn’t detect much of a different flavor other than a rich raspberry flavor, but I certainly didn’t mind a bit.

As for the toppings, let’s just say I’m going back to my bananas and granola. The raspberries were SO tart! Perhaps if you are a big fan of tart raspberries, you would like them, but they were a little too tart for me. And the mochi, I was also not a fan of. It tasted like marshmallow dough would taste like, if there was such a thing. Chewy like a gummy treat, and awkward tasting.

However, I’m not grading this yogurt based on the toppings I am responsible for choosing. Raspberry Cheesecake yogurt is AWESOME. I highly recommend it. 4 1/2 stars

Do you like cheesecake? If not, what’s your favorite dessert?

Red Mango Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

I don’t know if you remember my tweet about Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt on my Twitter Page the other day, but I was SO excited! I had intentions of buying a different flavor, but when I saw PEANUT BUTTER available, I quickly changed my mind! (:

I got this peanut butter flavor with bananas and granola as a topping. After I ordered, I realized they had suggested to get Jelly as a topping, which I would probably do next time I go, as it sounds yummy! I ended up getting a small, and it cost $4.98, with the 2 toppings.

Again, love the presentation. The swirl on top is too cute!

I took a scoop of the peanut butter, and was actually surprised. I was expecting a very sweet or a very peanutty flavor, and it was actually more tart than I thought it would be. However, it was pretty good! It did have a very mild sweetness to it, and was smooth. I actually really thought it tasted like peanut butter cream cheese, because I could certainly taste the  peanut butter flavor and a dairy or yogurt-y flavor. Unique, but good!

As for the toppings, the bananas were fresh and not overly sweet, kind of like a perfectly yellow banana with no brown spots would provide. The granola was crunchy and sweet, with a few pumpkin seeds and a bunch of flaxseeds as well. A good accompaniment to the frozen yogurt!

Overall, pretty good! I do wish it was either a bit sweeter, or a bit more peanut buttery, but I would get it again. 4 stars

If you could make any flavor frozen yogurt, what would it be? Since my dream flavor is already made, I would pick  cookie dough next!! (:

Haagen-Dazs Shops Frozen Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Before the review, I believe today’s the day, HAPPY 1- YEAR BLOGGIE BIRTHDAY TO ME! (www.healthnuttxo.com!) It’s been a real treat! I love blogging, and you readers make it all worthwhile!!

So what better way to celebrate then with some ice cream, err frozen yogurt? (even if I did eat it yesterday…)

Yesterday I went into the Haagen-Dazs shop looking for a sweet and cool treat. I saw that they had frozen yogurt available, in No Sugar Added Chocolate, No Sugar Added Vanilla and swirl. I asked for a regular sized swirl, which was about $5.00.

When I got my order, it was actually just vanilla. Where’s my swirl of chocolate and vanilla?!?! I wondered. Oh well. Plain vanilla was fine with me. Here’s a pic of my fro-yo.

Oooooooh yeaaa. Creamy!

I took a spoonful, and at first taste, I thought of vanilla rice pudding. It was sweet, but not sugary tasting. It had a fluffy, soft-serve ice cream consistency. It sounds and looks really good, but unfortunately, I really did not enjoy this frozen yogurt. What completely ruined it for me was the aftertaste. It had this weird, tangy, off aftertaste. I’m assuming perhaps some artificial sweetener was added? I’m not really sure what the ingredients are, but I did not like this.

Overall, MAYBE I would get this again in a swirl, but I would not get it again by itself. It was pretty expensive (so of course I finished it!), and the quantity wasn’t a concern- a good amount was given. I liked the consistency, but this overall was not my favorite. 2 stars

What’s your favorite product from Haagen-Dazs?

cook

We all know how much I love yogurt. Creamy, flavored, plain, fruit on the bottom- I just love it! I also LOVE frozen yogurt. Red Mango is a place by me that makes good frozen yogurt-but it’s kind of far away. So, i was at Whole Foods yesterday and i bought Stonyfield Farm Organic Frozen Yogurt in the Cookies ‘n Dream flavor. I figured why not?

So today, as 3 o clock rolled around and my tummy began grumbling for something, i was about to reach for my usual, some soy crisps or a flavored yogurt, but -aha!- i have my frozen yogurt i can try! So i pulled out the container and took a couple big scoops and plopped them into the bowl. It looked promising-just like ice cream. But how did it taste? I took a nibble of the cookie wafer part- delicious! It tasted just like the chocolate cookie part of an oreo-just frozen. There were a lot of cookie chunks throughout the container as well-Stonyfield doesn’t scrimp at all and that’s a good thing!  The frozen yogurt as a whole was amazing. It was creamy, melty, sweet but not overpoweringly sweet like some companies make their products. The cookie pieces were the best part. I made sure i picked a lot of those out when scooping out of the container (yes i am one of those people- like when you buy cookie dough ice cream and you make sure every spoonful you take out of the carton has some cookie dough in it-leaving little for the next person!!)It tasted sinful-but it wasn’t! It was lowfat AND had beneficial probiotics for my digestive system, along with 15% of my daily calcium needs in a 1/2 cup serving. Nice!

Stonyfield promises that their products only contain the “freshest all natural and organic ingredients. They are also produced without the use of antibiotics, synthetic growth hormones or toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers. The result is a wide array of the purest, most indulgent treats you’ll find anywhere.”

I definitely felt good eating this- it was yummy AND good for me!

Each 1/2 cup serving is 130 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 25 carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, and 5 grams of protein. My only complaint was that it lacked fiber-but it is yogurt. But they could have added some inulin to the product or something, but I’ll take it as it for now 🙂
