Ban Roll-on Antiperspirant Deodorant

Author: Healthnuttxo

IMG_4282

Hi there!

Even with summer coming to a close…still need that Antiperspirant and Deodorant! Ban has a Roll-on formula, that attacks both sweating and odors!

I was given two of these roll on Deodorants to try, in Unscented, aimed at sensitive skin, and in Satin Breeze. Retail price of both are $4.99 each at most Drug stores and Mass Retailers.

Now some background information… I weight train/workout 6 days a week. I’m on my feet most of the day. I commute. In other words… I am constantly moving, and being sweaty and stinky are things I DO NOT have time to worry about! My ideal Deodorant is one that I don’t have to apply multiple times per day just to work.

These Deodorants state that they have 24 hour invisible protection, and are non irritating.

For the roll to start working, you have to shake down the contents a little bit, unless you will apply just a dry roll on with no Deodorant…bad! However after you apply, I recommend keeping them upright, as the Deodorant will leak onto the side and appear all gooey. (see below)

IMG_4283

It does indeed roll on smooth. The satin breeze smells nice, a bit floral, and fresh. The Unscented is…well unscented. No smell at all. Which I can’t tell if I like or not.

Happy to report there was no irritation on my skin, even when using after shaving. There were NO white marks, which was also a plus. I HATE THAT!!!! That is one of the reasons I will only use gel Deodorants…. no white marks all over my clothing.

But okay…okay… HOW DOES IT WORK!?

Honestly…it’s OK. The antiperspirant side worked pretty well, I didn’t feel like I was sweating in any of my shirts (nobody likes those sweat stains!). However, I personally feel the Deodorant aspect of this product isn’t strong enough. I ended up applying a few times per day, before and after gym, when I got home from work, after a shower, etc., and moreso on those hot and humid days where you are just sweating non-stop.

Overall, not my favorite. I would use it in a pinch, but I wouldn’t buy in the future. I personally need something a little stronger. But if you are content with an average strength Deodorant, then this product is worth a try. For me… 3 stars.

Nixall First Aid Solution

Author: Healthnuttxo

IMG_1977

Hiya!

With summer on it’s way, comes outside activities. With any outdoor activities, comes the risk of minor injuries, scrapes, bug bites, and sunburn. This is where Nixall First Aid Solution  comes in! It is good to use on minor irritations that may occur from scrapes, stings, rashes, etc.

I get a lot of mosquito bites, and I am fair skinned, so sun burn is always an issue for me. I am a Diabetic and also suffer from poor healing and a weakened immune system, making me susceptible to infections.  According to the website (link above), this product helps oxygenate the skin and helps the healing process be expedited.

I had a minor cut on my shoulder. I sprayed the solution on the cut. No burning, or any side effects what so ever. It had no odor, and did not leave stains. It mostly just felt like and looked like water.

The spray was easy to use, and came in a larger and Trial size, which I think is good for on the go. I think this is good to have in a household with kids (those stubborn knee and elbow scrapes!!), and if you are someone who scratches cuts or picks scabs, it’s a good thing to keep around to clean an open minor wound to prevent further infection. Keep it clean, peeps!

Who doesn’t love a good fruit cup!!! A perfect little snack or treat to go into your lunchbox. Refreshing, and perfect when they are a little chilled, and a great way to finish up a meal, especially if you have a sweet tooth like me 🙂

Del Monte has come out with Fruit & Veggie Fusions! They are blends of fruits with vegetables in the juice part of the fruit cup. They come in 3 flavors,  Peach Mango, Cherry Fruit Trio, and Apple Pear Watermelon.

Each cup combined in 1 serving of fruit and veggies, has NO HFCS, and contains a good amount of Vitamin C.

Del Monte sent me the Peach Mango one to try out. I happen to be a fan of both of those fruits. Mango I tread lightly with, NONE ripe mango I find super tart, but ripened mango is soooo delicious! This one in particular has California peaches, with pumpkin, sweet potato and butternut squash in the juice/syrup part! This is all coupled with some mango flavor as well.

IMG_7247

The verdict…pretty good! My mom adored these. She asked for a second one. I happened to like these too! When cold, they were super refreshing. The mango flavor provided a bit of tartness, and the peaches provided some sweetness. The peaches were nice and soft, but not mushy, which is key. The syrup was somewhere between a juice and thicker syrup, but not super sugary-sweet. There is a bit of added sugar to these cups, but they are lightly sweetened.

You cannot taste the veggies at all! This is great news for Moms with kids who hate veggies! Or great news for anyone, because when is it a bad thing to get extra vegetables in the diet? I think it was super smart to use the mild veggies like butternut squash and pumpkin, which already provide a tad bit of sweetness.

And, here’s the stats: I ripped it :/ ….I was too darn excited to try a cup!

IMG_7246

Due to the added sugar, I will have to give this 4 stars. But really good! I really want to try the cherry one…sounds yummy!

Happy snacking, peeps!

Alrighty! So, I do not drink a ton of protein powder- not my style, I am much more of a food eater, but it definitely has a place in my diet. I tend to stick to low carb whey proteins, and use them when I need calories post workout and do not feel hungry or for convenience in the morning.

I received Growing Naturals Organic Rice Protein in Strawberry Burst to try. I have never had rice protein before. This one in particular is:

Organic
Vegan
Allergy friendly
Made with brown rice protein (raw),
Has 3 grams of carbs (1 sugar), 24 grams of protein
&& is NON GMO certified

There is a complete panel of the Amino Acid profile of the rice protein on the BPA free plastic, which is definitely a plus (see below). There is even an explanation of what an essential amino acid is, which essentially (hehe) are a few of the 20 or so amino acids that your body cannot produce on it’s own and you NEED to eat.

SO, I opened the tub and saw brown powder. I was a little shocked and expected to see pink…since strawberry…but I have to remember this is BROWN rice protein, and there are no added artificial colors. It smells like a mixture of strawberries and well…protein powder. It’s hard to describe what protein powder smells like since it is so unique, but for anyone who has ever tried it, knows it has an odor.

It’s kind of hard to mix…I added it to milk and tried mixing for a few minutes. The powder just did not seem to want to assimilate. I would suggest doing it with a shaker cup or blender.

IMG_4218

I took a sip and….

IMG_4219

meh.

I do not like it. I added half a scoop to roughly 4-5 ounces of 2% milk. The strawberry flavor is muted by the overpowering stevia flavor. The stevia is really bitter and tastes like the extract, and is very strong. This stevia and strawberry flavor put together makes the strawberry flavor taste like a fake flavor, not like natural, fresh picked strawberries but more like a stevia sweetened strawberry flavored milk you’d purchase at a store.

There is a residue left on your tongue, powdery and piece-y. I kind of expected that, since a lot of rice products I’ve had before in the past always had off consistencies. There is an aftertaste as well, but I still would think this is from the stevia.

Overall….huge let down. I was excited by this protein, looking at the label and reading about it. I had another person try this with peanut butter and milk in a blended shake and he wasn’t a huge fan of it, and agreed there was an aftertaste. Perhaps if you mixed it with a banana and used a lot of ice to dilute the flavor, it is doable.

It’s a pass from me. 1  1/2 stars

INSPYR Socks FOCUSED Crew Sock & GIVEAWAY!

Author: Healthnuttxo

IMG_2036

Alright! I got some awesome socks from a new company called Inspyr Socks.   If you peep the website, they are a company that sells motivating, affordable socks, geared toward the athletic community! I got this sweet purple and aqua pair that say  FOCUSED on the back. They have some really cute designs! Not that I need any more socks but… I will definitely order some in the future! (plus…who can ever really have enough socks??)

Check that calf development 8)  (shameless plug hehe)
IMG_2042

I LOVE LOVE LOVE wearing shorts and high socks to workout, especially on deadlift or leg day. Deadlift day is ideal, since the cushy socks usually help prevent bruising on the shins. I also like having the tightness on my calves when doing cardio or leg day, for a little bit of compression.

I ended up doing legs today with these on! They gave me ZERO problems in terms of comfort for my feet. I have some bumps on the edges of my feet, and super sensitive skin (thanks, Diabetes!), and these did not rub or anything with my sneakers on. They kept my feet relatively dry, only a little sweaty (it was LEG day after all!) and they were super soft and comfortable.

They are compression-like on the calf, which I liked, since I like having a big of tightness around my calf. Something to keep in mind though if you have rather large calves. I have little baby ones…but I am working on it!!

I liked the colors of these…bright! I love bright clothing for the gym, I like to break away from the all black and wear fun stuff. I also always get compliments on my outfits, and these socks I paired with  a pair of purple shorts and light blue tank top. Perfect gym outfit!

Overall, great product. An easy 4 1/2 stars. If you are interested in purchasing this pair, you can see them here!

Now…GIVEAWAY TIME!

you can enter to win a pair of socks from INSPYR! U.S. Only. Giveaway ends June 1st, 12 pm.

Urinary Tract Infections are certainly no fun…bacteria essentially builds up and then causes pain or burning, and just overall discomfort. AZO has a line of products to help alleviate a UTI (but not cure…must go to a doctor!), including the new Cranberry Gummies.

I thought these would be perfect to try, seeing as Cranberry juice is always recommended to prevent UTIs, but I cannot drink it, as I am a Diabetic (juice is a huge NO, unless blood sugar is low!) These gummies are the equivalent of 1 glass of cranberry juice (per 2 gummies), according to the bottle. The bottle also states that “studies have been shown that cranberries can help prevent bacteria from attaching to the bladder wall and help maintain urinary tract cleanliness”. Sounds good to me!

I’ll admit, I am a sucker for gummies. Fish oil gummies, daily multi-vitamin gummies…it’s like a little treat per day! So I was certainly down to try these. I’m a little kid on the inside…it’s ok…right?

Here’s what they look like:

IMG_1203

They come in mixed berry flavor, and the darker versus lighter purple gummies have different flavors. The darker gummy has a tart, potent cranberry flavor. Almost like an extract. It’s very sweet and tart at the same time, but also good. It leaves a cranberry after-taste, like most cranberry products do. The lighter purple gummy is less tart and strong in flavor. I like it better, it’s sweeter. It almost reminds me of a raspberry or strawberry type of flavor, with a cranberry aftertaste.

The gummies are dense but chewy, and very slightly waxy. Not as squishy as a fish oil gummy, and a little harder.  They come in shapes that  honestly resemble the cake emoji for the iPhone…I have no clue, that’s what I think of every time. LOL.

It was hard to get a pic of the label, since it was stretched around the bottle. But…Each 2 gummies has 15 calories and 4 grams of carbs with 2 grams of sugar. It also contains 500 mg of Cranberry Whole Fruit Powder.

Overall, I like them! As a diabetic and female, I am prone to UTIs, so I would consider buying these if I saw it in stores. As always, with any vitamin (gummy or not), do NOT exceed the recommended dosage. Doesn’t matter how good they taste! 4 stars.

Alright! So as you guys probably know, I am a *huge* nut butter fan. However, coconut butter has never been one of those nut butters I bought or tried. Sweet Spreads offered me 6 of their coconut butters to try for free. They come in White Chocolate, Vanilla Cupcake, Maple Pancake, Dark Chocolate Mint, Cinnamon Roll and Chocolate Brownie flavors. Each of them have 2 grams of sugar per serving, which is a plus.

Now. One thing I know about coconut oil/butter is that it is solid at room temperature. So If you open a jar of this stuff it will be exactly that…a soft solid. There is a white layer on the top (fat most likely) and more colored separation on the bottom. Sweet Spreads wrote “Tip: For a warm smooth sensation- remove the lid and microwave for 10-15 seconds”. I would argue that’s less of a tip, and more mandatory, at least at first. Once you microwave it the first time, and it cools again, it hardens up more “mixed”, and then I essentially used a fork to “chip away” and eat pieces of coconut butter. Sounds hilarious, but it was actually kind of fun.

Here’s what it looks like when you open up a jar:

IMG_0711

Here’s my chipped away coconut butter (post microwave/ re solidified):

IMG_1096

And here’s my fresh out the microwave coconut butter: Mmm.

IMG_1181

So, I’m not sure how these spreads would be on a sandwich, but you can give it a try. I had mine straight from the jar.

Maple Pancake: Nice and smooth post microwave, and the smell was really delicious. It has an almond butter consistency, and coconut flavor. The maple flavor was honestly pretty slight, I wished it was a bit stronger. However, it grew on me. There was something that left a little bit of a bite to it, like cinnamon, once it was done eating. 3 ½ stars

Cinnamon Roll– This one was gritty but smooth, again, like almond butter, A nice cinnamon flavor, and definitely detected a nutmeg flavor as well. The sweetness was sight, but there. It definitely was indicative of a cinnamon roll, but with some certain coconut flavor as well. It had almost an “earthy” taste to it. I liked it. 3 ½ stars

Vanilla Cupcake– This one tasted almost like straight up coconut butter, since the vanilla flavor was so milk. It was a bit pastier than the others, and I felt it needed to be sweeter. I like this one better cold, and it reminded me almost of cake batter. It was very rich however, so I couldn’t eat too much at once ( a good thing, since this is caloric!) 3 ½ stars

White Chocolate- this one was pretty good!! It was sweeter, but not too sweet, and the flavor goes well with a coconut taste. It had a mild white chocolate/vanilla flavor. I let this one heat up, cool, and then “scrape” with fork. A tad pasty, but good. 4 stars

Chocolate Brownie- mmmm. This one was good. Like a chocolate covered coconut treat. A little gritty, even post microwave, but still tasty nonetheless. A rich chocolate flavor, this one was sweeter than the rest and really good. It was I would say 50/50 chocolate to coconut flavor ratio….but a good ratio at that. 4 ½ stars

Dark Chocolate Mint– I tried this one last. I was afraid. Minty nut butter?? And while it wasn’t my favorite, it wasn’t bad. It tasted like a muted York Peppermint Patty. Chocolatey and minty, but not TOO minty. The coconut flavor is almost completely masked in this one. The dark chocolate aspect was nice though, and very rich. 3 ½ stars

Overall, pretty good! The only drawback is that these are mighty caloric. 1 Tbsp has 140 calories! Not good for those nut butter addicts like me! But if you watch portion sizes, you do not need more than 1 tbsp at a time…they are very rich and decadent, and certainly a sweet treat ☺

Chobani Concord Grape Blended Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

IMG_0408

Grape Chobani! I finally saw this flavor pop up at my local Target (ahh…don’t you just love Target?) and had to buy them. I had a free coupon from Chobani…but of course I left it at home -_-, so I ended up paying for this one.  I would use that free coupon to buy and review again but…

I will not be buying this flavor again. Chobani, you are my favorite brand of Greek yogurt, but the new flavors have been real flops! I hated the Green Tea flavored yogurt( which I reviewed here) and this one was a let down as well. Here’s what it looked like.

IMG_0409It was a creamy, blended yogurt, so no fruit on the bottom. It was just not sweet enough, or grape flavored enough, or…enough enough. It tasted more like plain yogurt than grape, since the grape flavor was so muted. What little grape flavor there was tasted awfully fake, like a grape flavored candy or something. It had an awkward after taste as well that I could not get over. It was like a few drops of fake grape juice poured into plain yogurt.

Blech.

Will not buy again. Will not use free coupon on. Will not feed to dog. It was slightly better after I added an Equal packet, but not good enough. I’ll stick to pineapple and mango flavors of Chobs, both of which are delicious. 1 1/2 stars

Follow my new IG account! lisa_liftsx  🙂

A new flavor I saw on shelves (and hopefully better than that Green Tea one…) is the Chobani Simply 100 Pineapple Coconut Blended Greek Yogurt! So 100 calories, no fruit on the bottom, no fat, natural ingredients…not to mention one of my favorite flavor mixtures of pineapple and coconut. Looks promising 🙂

Here’s what it looked like

Nothing fancy, looks like a vanilla yogurt. There are few and tiny pineapple pieces in the yogurt as well, but for the most part the yogurt is “chunk” free of fruit.

So how did it taste?

The yogurt itself was a creamy blend, and it was rather tart from the pineapple. It tasted like the pineapple fruit on the bottom yogurt, but that one is 2% and this one is fat free, and you can tell, since more of the tart flavor comes out. The yogurt has a coconut after taste, which is pleasant. It is yummy for sure, but a little unbalanced. The pineapple flavor overtakes the coconut, and it is rather strong since it is tart. I almost wish the yogurt itself either
1. had more coconut flavor
2. was sweeter, less tart or
3. was made a 2% flavor, not a non fat. It needs the cream to mask the tartness of the pineapple, which is expected, but too strong.

However, still good. I would buy it again if on sale. 3 1/2 stars

Hey peeps!

I got two new flavors of Oikos Frozen Yogurt sent to me to try for free for a review. I was certainly excited! I was a frozen yogurt JUNKIE in my freshman year of college. I also didn’t count macros- I only counted calories back then. So I thought it was perfectly acceptable to eat a bowl of frozen yogurt loaded with toppings as long as I stayed in my calorie range (LOL!!). I was also a cardio bunny at the time and barely lifted a weight…oh, what a sad, sad time for me. Haha. If you like cardio, I am not knocking it, I just LOVE weight lifting!!

ANYWAY!

Off topic…because that’s how I normally do ;D… onto the fro yo! I put both flavors in a bowl

I tried the Chocolate first. It was creamy, soft and tasted just like ice cream! It was certainly sweet, and had a predominant dark chocolate flavor. It was smooth, refreshing, and very, very good! It tasted almost like those fudge Popsicles on a cardboard stick I used to eat when I was little. However, it was super creamy and not icy at all! I wouldn’t have known it was frozen yogurt if the carton didn’t say so 🙂 4.5 stars

Onto the Key Lime flavor… this one was also refreshing and sweet. It tasted honestly JUST like a key lime flavored yogurt. So if you like that flavor, you would like this ice cream. It was tangy and had a little zing at the end, that I thought might be ginger but it was not listed on the ingredient list. It was good, but I wouldn’t buy it in the future. Not my cup of tea. 3 stars

Overall, I like these! The chocolate is the way to go in my opinion. But I would love to sample more flavors! I generally stay away from sweets because of my Diabetes, especially low fat/ high sugar ones like this because of the glycemic spike, but a few tastes every now and then is awfully nice after a hard day at the gym or a sweaty, sunny day. Enjoy your day guys!
