Hey peeps!

I got two new flavors of Oikos Frozen Yogurt sent to me to try for free for a review. I was certainly excited! I was a frozen yogurt JUNKIE in my freshman year of college. I also didn’t count macros- I only counted calories back then. So I thought it was perfectly acceptable to eat a bowl of frozen yogurt loaded with toppings as long as I stayed in my calorie range (LOL!!). I was also a cardio bunny at the time and barely lifted a weight…oh, what a sad, sad time for me. Haha. If you like cardio, I am not knocking it, I just LOVE weight lifting!!

ANYWAY!

Off topic…because that’s how I normally do ;D… onto the fro yo! I put both flavors in a bowl

I tried the Chocolate first. It was creamy, soft and tasted just like ice cream! It was certainly sweet, and had a predominant dark chocolate flavor. It was smooth, refreshing, and very, very good! It tasted almost like those fudge Popsicles on a cardboard stick I used to eat when I was little. However, it was super creamy and not icy at all! I wouldn’t have known it was frozen yogurt if the carton didn’t say so 🙂 4.5 stars

Onto the Key Lime flavor… this one was also refreshing and sweet. It tasted honestly JUST like a key lime flavored yogurt. So if you like that flavor, you would like this ice cream. It was tangy and had a little zing at the end, that I thought might be ginger but it was not listed on the ingredient list. It was good, but I wouldn’t buy it in the future. Not my cup of tea. 3 stars

Overall, I like these! The chocolate is the way to go in my opinion. But I would love to sample more flavors! I generally stay away from sweets because of my Diabetes, especially low fat/ high sugar ones like this because of the glycemic spike, but a few tastes every now and then is awfully nice after a hard day at the gym or a sweaty, sunny day. Enjoy your day guys!

Oikos 0% Superfruits Greek Yogurt

I won an awesome contest hosted by Oikos, and got some free coupons to try the Oikos yogurt. I ended up picking up a new flavor I never tried before, Superfruits. This yogurt had pretty impressive stats, with 0 grams of fat, and 13 grams of protein per cup, and only 130 calories.

I put mine in the freezer for 30 minutes or so, and when I took it out, the top had a slightly hard texture. Peeeeeeerfect. It was just the way I liked it, because I could break it and then stir it up so it was one cool and creamy treat.

The yogurt itself was very thick, I was actually surprised just how creamy it was! Even the white yogurt on top had a slight fruity and sweet taste to it, and wasn’t completely plain. The fruit part on the bottom was jelly like but also slightly bumpy in consistency. There were no fruit chunks, like I normally would find with say a strawberry or blueberry. I don’t mind pieces of fruit, so either way I was fine with it. It was sweet, and had a really fresh, fruity flavor, with a kind of tart, raspberry tasting flavor.

Overall, I really liked it! I would definitely get it again, even when my coupons run out (:  4  1/2 stars

Oikos Caramel and Chocolate Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Wait a second. Did you read correctly? Caramel and Chocolate GREEK YOGURT? And ORGANIC? No way.. it can’t be possible…

It is! 😉 Oikos has now officially combined sinful & good-for-you. Their 2 new greek yogurt flavors, available in individual 4 packs, of Pure Pleasure Caramel and Chocolate are good for you, the earth, and your taste buds.

I was super excited when I finally located these in my grocery store, and picked up both without hesistation with the coupon Stonyfield provided me (Thanks, Kristina!). I couldn’t wait to dig in once I got home, and driving home was already thinking of how to try them. The caramel flavor with slices apples? popcorn? pears? The chocolate flavor with strawberries? pretzels? crushed up Annie’s bunny grahams? (okay, I admit, there was a few drool spots on my car seat from thinking of my delectable combinations…)

The greek yogurt part wasn’t as thick as traditional greek yogurt, but was more of a mixture of plain yogurt and greek put together. I didn’t mind that, in fact, I actually preferred it. I don’t really like my greek yogurt soooo thick when I’m eating it by itself. (However, if I’m eating granola with yogurt, I do like it thick). The yogurt part by itself was actually a little sweet, and then the pure pleasure was on the bottom.

I decided to try the caramel flavor first. It wasn’t THICK like on a caramel apple, but smooth and easy to stir with the yogurt. It had a nice sweetness to it, with a buttery, even brown-sugar taste.

Next was the chocolate. The bottom was a little bit thicker than chocolate syrup, and tasted sort of like that too. Although not as sweet as your typical chocolate syrup, it had a rich cocoa flavor, and was also smooth and delicious.

I didn’t mix mine completely, I prefer to take spoonfuls where half the spoon is yogurt, half the spoon is caramel/chocolate, and let the mixing take place in my mouth 🙂 I think you can enjoy the sweet bottom, may it be caramel, chocolate or even fruit, better. These definietely get 4 1/2 stars. They are the perfect pick me up, with the perfect sweetness, and are a good size to pair with some fruit or granola for a snack or a light breakfast.

With one of my yogurts, I actually ate the whole top first, and then left the bottom to enjoy by itself! Which is why I think it’s a good thing these come in a 4 pack variety, I KNOW if it came in the 64 oz, or the BIG containers, all of you would just go straight for the caramel-ly or chocolatey goodness at the bottom, now wouldn’t you? 😛

1 container is 110 calories, 0 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, 0 fiber,  and 10 grams of protein.

Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt with Honey

Author: healthnuttxo

Stonyfield Farm is my “go to” brand for yogurt. They have made a branch, so to speak, of organic greek yogurt, Oikos Organic Greek Yogurts. I like greek yogurt usually, but it’s bland tasting, and needs some flavor in my opinion, may it be fruit or granola or SOMETHING. Oikos has flavored yogurts, with honey, vanilla, strawberry and blueberry. I decided to use my free coupon provided generously by Stonyfield Farm and bought the Honey flavor.

So, 3 o clock rolls around and i am famished. I had a good workout at the gym today, so i’ve been craving protein all day long. Instead of my normal snack, i grabbed the Oikos Honey Organic Greek Yogurt out of my fridge. Greek yogurt is thicker than regular yogurt, and has almost double the protein. Opening my container, it was greek yogurt on top, honey on the bottom. Without mixing, the yogurt part tastes sweet. It’s really thick and creamy, with a sour cream like consistency. It’s slightly tangy, but the honey’s sweetness “leaked”, so it’s not too tart like plain greek yogurt. Onto the honey part, i know what your thinking. Honey? Isn’t it too thick? Nope. This isn’t your straight up “honey” from a jar- it’s more liquidy and has a jelly-like consistency. It’s almost like honey applesauce on the bottom. By itself it also isn’t as sweet as PURE honey, so it’s not overpowering. It’s a nice compliment to the greek yogurt. I didn’t completely mix mine, but i would just take a scoop and half my spoon would be honey, half yogurt. Delicious!

So the Pros & Cons for this snack? Well, it’s higher in protein, so it’s more satisfying. It hit the spot where my hunger was roaring this afternoon. It also has no fat, but tastes like it’s made from whole milk. Yummy! My only complaint is they added sugar AND honey. Why both? Shouldn’t honey be enough? And, it’s slightly lower in calcium than regular yogurt (15% as compared to my usual 25-30%). Otherwise- this yogurt is a winner in my book. It’s a nice change from other flavored yogurts. In fact- i went to the store today and bought another flavor-strawberry! (I will blog about that flavor soon!)

1 cup is 120 calories, 0 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, and 13 grams of filling protein.
