Time for a review…of my absolute kryptonite! Peanut butter!

Seriously though…I can refuse any baked good in front of me, but put a jar of peanut butter and a spoon nearby, and you’ll find me melting.

I go through the temptation  thoughts like Spongebob with water when he visits Sandy for the first time.
“I don’t need it…
I don’t need it…
I DEFINITELY don’t need it…

… I   N E E D   IT !!! ”

But, alas, here I am reviewing two peanut butters from Pacific Beach. I will say I DID practice portion control, measured on my scale, and then left the jar in the other room so I didn’t finish a jar in 2 days (I made it to 3!!! [just kidding!])

The first one up- the “Our Signature” peanut butter spread.
2 tbsp is 152 calories, 12 g fat (3 saturated), 51 mg sodium, 9 grams carbs, 1 gram fiber, 6 grams sugar,  4 grams protein.
This one is gluten free (WAS gluten free I should say…that jar is long gone)
This…was unbelievable. I’m not going to lie, I am biased with peanut butter bc well I love peanut butter, but THIS was SO GOOD. It was sweet and creamy, but also had bits of peanuts in it so it had a bit of a crunch. It had a white chocolate flavor to it, was a bit buttery tasting..UGH it was SO GOOD! It had the perfect balance of sweetness too-not too sweet where it felt sugary. Just right. The only thing that kept my guilt at bay was it was 152 calories for 2 Tbsp as opposed to the usual 190 cals. WOO!!
5 stars

Next up, the Organic Valencia peanut butter.
2 tbsp is 168 calories, 14 g fat (2 saturated), 58 mg sodium, 6 grams carbs, 1 gram fiber, 7 grams protein.

This one was also tasty, although definitely more moderate in flavor. I think it could have used a tad more salt, and was a teeny bit bland. But, still a good peanut butter. Again, it was creamy but also had chunks of peanuts in it giving it a bit of a crunch. A nice thick spread, that could easily be spread on bread or eaten from the jar (somehow I always dangerously choose the latter…). I think this is a good nut butter to pair with jelly on a sandwich bc it’s a good base. This one is gluten free and sugar free. I almost wish it had a pinch of sugar or something to bring out more flavor. 3 1/2 stars.

Overall, some tasty treats! I would love to try more from Pacific Beach, because I think their other flavors sounds phenomenal as well. However, currently trying to lean out for summer and I have NO self control around this stuff…bc it is too damn good.

How many of you are peanut butter addicts like myself? It’s so good it hurts!! D:

RE-review! I reviewed one of the PB Crave flavors recently, and thought it was okay. Little did I know that the peanut butters over at PB Crave were remade and I had a batch that was prior to the remake! Luckily, the nice people over at PB Crave offered to let me try their products for free, and being the peanut butter lover I am, I happily obliged 🙂

Once I got the package….I admit I tried all 4 on the spot. (Couldn’t help myself). 4 spoons and 4 forks later (a friend of mine tried it with me!) I happily tasted each and every one of the PB Crave Peanut butters. What I liked is that each jar of peanut butter was VERY creamy, and had little oil separation (if any). Just  a quick stir and voila! Ready to eat, and not too messy. Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE natural peanut butters because they don’t have hydrogenated oils, but I hate that sometimes it takes a good 10 minutes to stir a jar of peanut butter -.-

Anyway-

First up- COOKIE NOOKIE! How could I not try this one first…it had the word cookie in it 😉
This peanut butter has “wild honey, chocolate chips, [and] cookie dough flavor” according to the jar. Upon first taste….I like it 🙂

It was sweet, but not too sweet, and I could definitely taste the cookie flavor. It wasn’t super salty like the last batch I tried, and really quite good. I noticed some chocolate chips at the bottom of the jar, but that was really it. Not much but a few specs at the bottom. It had a nice vanilla flavor in the beginning, which seemed to dissipate as time went on. I also noticed I needed a glass of water, or milk, with this peanut butter. Sticky! However,  very good. This one gets 4 stars.

Next, Razzle Dazzle. This one had “wild honey, dark chocolate, white cocoa butter drops, [and] natural raspberry flavor” according to the front of the jar. I could CERTAINLY smell the raspberry upon opening the jar. I noticed that the flavors were mild. A mild white chocolate flavor and a mild raspberry flavor, neither overpowering or too sweet. My friend said she thought the raspberry flavor tasted a bit artificial. However, it was pretty good, and my friend did agree with me that the “aftertaste was pleasant”. This one also gets 4 stars

Next up, Choco Choco. This one had “wild honey [and] sweet & dark chocolate” in it, according to the label. I thought this one was like a dark chocolate Reeses candy, that wasn’t as sweet and had more peanut butter in it. In other words…I liked it =D . It had that sweet and salty thing going on, and was super creamy. I did notice that the chocolate flavor was mild, and a bit bitter. I almost wish they used just milk chocolate and made it a bit sweeter, but otherwise it was good. 4 stars

Lastly, the Coco Banana. This one had “wild honey, chocolate, [and] natural banana flavor”, according to the label. The flavor of the banana was relatively mild. It was salty and a bit sweet, but nothing overpowering at all. I didn’t really taste the chocolate part, which I found a little disappointing. This one was good, but I’d rather smear it on am actual banana rather than eat it from the jar. 3 stars

Overall, some yummy peanut butters. I wish the flavors were a bit stronger, such as stronger raspberry or banana or chocolate flavors, as it seems the peanut butter masked a bit of the flavors in each jar. However, I like that the sugar content of each peanut butter was relatively low, as was the sodium. So, I definitely recommend trying these!

Which one would you try if you had the option to?

Here is the nutrition for Cookie Nookie, although most jars are relatively the same (give or take).

PB Crave Cookie Nookie Peanut Butter

Author: Healthnuttxo

Peanut Butter….one of the greatest and tastiest foods in my opinion. The best kinds to me are the kinds that can be eaten straight from the jar with only a spoon needed. And while I love my good ol’ fashioned salt + peanuts type of peanut butter, flavored peanut butter is freaking AWESOME as well.

SO, naturally, I was excited to try this peanut butter, by PB Crave called “Cookie Nookie”. It stated on the front of the jar that it was “peanut butter with wild honey, chocolate chips, [and] cookie dough flavor”.

Can we say… drool worthy? Oh my goodness that sounds so good? Where is my spoon????

So I stirred this baby up, and put a spoon in. The flavor…?

It was alright. Not to say it wasn’t tasty, but I definitely was a bit let down.  It had a very different peanut taste than what I am used to, a very harsh and just a strong peanut flavor. It had a salty aftertaste as well, which I wasn’t crazy about either. There were tons of mini chocolate chips, but the flavor of them was mild, and seemed to dissipate as I stirred up the peanut butter (which was inevitable, since there was mild oil separation so I had to stir it).

There definitely was a sweet and salty thing going on, and I could see why it was called “cookie nookie”, as there was somewhat of a chocolate chip cookie flavor. It was a smooth peanut butter, and the ingredients were pretty good (“peanuts, sugar, pal oil, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, whole milk, natural flavor, salt, maltodextrin, soy lecithin, honey, vanilla”)

Overall, good, but not amazing. I liked it, but not enough to demolish a jar in a week as I am so notorious for doing =D   3 stars

Something new to try! I got a free box of Nimble bars by Balance bar. I was excited, especially when I heard that they had a PEANUT BUTTER flavor. Like music to my ears…

I also love that the bars have calcium, fiber, protein and are sweetened with truvia! More nutritional music to my  ears (wait…what??)

Plus, something new, there is lutein, beta-carotene and antioxidants c and e which are good for the skin (“when consumed daily for 2 weeks” as the box says).

And…. only 120 calories each! Nice. However, to throw a con in there, they are a bit on the tiny side :/

However, let the review of the flavors commence. The bar itself was very soft, and chewy, and also quite dense. The flavor was ok, not super peanut buttery, but I can tell its “peanut butter flavored”. It was sweet but not too sweet, but NOT sugary tasting. It also had that salty flavor, and a little bit of an aftertaste.

I noticed that both bars had tiny little orange dots in them. If you look closely at the pic, you can see it!

This one gets 3.5 stars

Next up, the Yogurt Orange Swirl-

I noticed that it was sweeter than the peanut butter flavor, but also soft and chewy. It had  a rather good orange flavor, and actually tasted kind of like a creamsicle! Mmm : )

This one also had a tad bit of saltiness to it, but I enjoyed it as a whole. This one also gets 3.5 stars

Overall, pretty good. Have water nearby as they made me crave a cup of it! They are kinda tiny which is something to note, but I like the nutritional facts, the ingredients, and the flavor is quite good. AND only 4 grams of sugar! Woo! Two thumbs up!

Another nut butter to add to my addiction and to subtract money out of my wallet (*sigh*…that wallet never had a chance against any nut butters). Insert, Peanut Butter & Co Mighty Maple Peanut Butter. One of the tastiest I have tried from Peanut Butter & Co., this one is also gluten free and vegan

SIDENOTE: How cute is that monkey?! With a barbell!

This was a thick peanut butter- not much stirring required, hardly any actually. Look here, didn’t even move as I turned my fork to the side. (WHHHHAAAAAT you don’t eat nut butter out of the jar with a fork, too?)

The peanut butter has a mild sweetness, but I can definitely taste both the maple and the peanut butter. It has a roasted peanut taste, and then a hint of maple flavor. Not too salty or too sweet, but just right. I ate this directly from the jar, like most of my nut butters, and I can’t get enough of it. This isn’t my first jar, and it will not be my last.

One thing different from other peanut butters is I can “taste” and detect the granules- like a very mild grittiness to the peanut butter. Not like sand, or like anything that would ruin the peanut butter, but it is not 100% smooth.

Overall, delicious and addictive. A made a significant dent in my jar the first night. I’m too ashamed to show you the picture and I also don’t want to think about possibly eating 3-4 servings in one sitting, so I’m going to pretend it never happened. (*What peanut butter??*) I get remarks all the time about how fast I can finish a jar of peanut butter, and quite frankly, it doesn’t bother me a bit. Heart healthy fats, protein, and hey, I can think of worse things to inhale on a 2-3 day basis (sad, yet true. Shelf life of a jar of peanut butter in my house is 3 days tops).

One thing, is these are a bit pricy, I’ve seen them as much as 6+ dollars for a jar. So, from me, this one gets 4.5 stars =)

What’s your favorite flavor/variety from Peanut Butter & Co. if you have tried it? Mine is this one here.

Peanut butter + pretzels + chocolate? Need there be another reason to  buy these? I didn’t think so. I also didn’t care that my wallet currently has 5 singles in it and I spent a few of those on these Dips. Oh salty sweet snacks, why must you tempt me so?

These little Dips were two pretzels, with peanut butter in the middle, then dipped in yummy  chocolate. I had to restrain myself in the car ride home not to eat them. (Lies- I totally ate 3 of them on the car ride home but I have to make it sound like I at least have some self control).

So much self control I actually ripped the bag down the middle. Ooooooops.

Anyway, after scoping out the ingredients (pretty good), looking at the nutrition facts (ehh…), buying these and finally getting them home, I had more and set myself to review them. Overall, these Dips were pretty good! And sweet! There was a milk chocolate tasting chocolate on the outside, with crunchy and fresh tasting pretzels on the inside.

Hmm. Problem. Where’s the peanut butter? I thought. The first bite was misleading- hardly any peanut butter flavor. But the second bite I tasted some. I do wish there was more, since I’m in love with peanut butter and will never turn it down : )

These were pretty much the epitome of a salty sweet snack. Smooth chocolate, crunchy salty pretzels and then a bit of peanut butter flavor. All together, they reminded me of a Reeses peanut butter cup in flavor, but with pretzel flavor as well. (Actually a Reeses peanut butter cup with pretzels in it sounds amazing!)

Overall, a yummy snack. However, very caloric, and high in saturated fat. 4 sandwiches have 4 grams of saturated fat and 150 calories, and these are HARD not to eat more than 4 of. In fact, the bag was gone in a day (not from me!!) but I left them on the kitchen table and later discovered an empty bag (that’s what happens when you live with hungry guys in the house!). So, given that and the peanut butter issue (lack there-of issue), these get 4 stars.

YES! Halloween is almost here!

Time to hand out candy to kids dressed up in ah-dorable costumes, and get props as one of the best houses that hands out candy. We go all out. Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Butterfingers, Snickers….you know the good stuff. And not the mini barely more than a bite size- the bigger pieces! Ever since I was little we always handed out “good” candy. And we give a LOT of candy per person. One might call this egg/shaving cream insurance.

Say what?

As in, we hand out yummy candy, so our house doesn’t get egged or  shaving cream all over it. It hasn’t failed us yet! Although I still think we should hand out an apple or two and promote some health.

Just kidding. I want all the apples for myself. HAHA.

Anyway- At Whole Foods the other day I spotted Dancing Deer Baking Co. Peanut Butter Cats and Chocolate Bats cookies. HOW CUTE!!! I thought. And despite the $6.99 price tag (my wallet is still mad at me for that), I bought them.

I took some out, and sure enough, such cute shapes! But…what was up with the “eyeballs”? Some cats/bats barely had any, and some were smeared off…

Ha. The cat one vaguely looks like it has a mustache
from the chocolate crumbs. No? Don’t see it? Alright, maybe I’m crazy…
;  )

I tried the peanut butter one first. Obviously. You know my obsession. It was crunchy but thick, and mildly sweet. But…it tasted like a shortbread cookie, with mild peanut butter flavor. Really. A friend of mine tried one and confirmed the very mild peanut butter flavor, which was rather disappointing to me. I felt like I had to smear some peanut butter on it to give it peanut butter flavor! It definitely made me crave a glass of milk, however, as it was a “dry” cookie.

Next up, the chocolate. This one I liked better than the peanut butter cookie. It was sweet but not too sweet, and almost had a dark chocolate brownie flavor to it. It was pretty yummy! I think it would go great with milk or…a smear of peanut butter. But what DOESN’T taste good with peanut butter, really? Obviously, the chocolate ones were better, as they were sweeter and more flavorful.

Hmm….

Perhaps I’m slightly biased. I dont like cats. Maybe if they made the cats chocolate and the bats peanut butter I would have liked the peanut butter cookies better? ….

Ok no I wouldn’t have, but I’m just saying 😉

Overall, 3 stars. These cookies were ok, but nothing special. And where does the 12 grams of sugar come from!? These really aren’t that sweet! But at 3 cookies per serving, not bad! Although the  7 dollar price tag really hurts. It really, really hurts =(

What candy do you hand out/like getting the most on Halloween? Reeses PB Cups for me!!!

Got some free cookies, courtesy of Fabe’s, and of COURSE I had to try the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies first =) Seeing as I love both peanut butter AND chocolate… well, I guess to be fair, there are a LOT of people who love peanut butter and chocolate… So, let’s just say I did the Fabe’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie for YOU guys first 😉

I dont know about you, but those gooey chocolate chips pretty much won me over  on the spot.

The flavor was pretty good. Chewy and soft, with a mild peanut butter flavor, and pieces of nuts scattered throughout. It was a very rich cookie, and sweet but certainly not overly sweet. In fact, the raging sweet tooth I have kind of wishes it was a bit sweeter. It kind of had the sweet and salty combination going on, especially when I bit into a chocolate chip. Which, by the way, receiving these cookies in the mail on a hot day was sort of like a gift. These tasted like they were fresh out of the oven. The chocolate chips were gooey, but definitely had a different taste than what I’m used to- being a milk chocolate chip. They kind of reminded me of the Enjoy Life Boom Choco Boom Non Dairy Rice Milk chocolate bar in terms of flavor. Had a chocolate-like taste, with a vanilla flavor as well.

The middle of the cookie had that “I-just-took-these-out-of-the-oven-ten-minutes-ago” appeal, and like it was at the point where you take out a cookie and your not quite sure if it’s done or not. Your afraid it could be raw, but you dont want to overcook it. Thats how these cookies were in consistency. I’m not saying they were raw, but they were like a few steps beyond it. In other words, just the way I like it 🙂

Overall, very good cookie. It is pretty calorie dense, and has 12 grams of fat and 19 grams of sugar, and it’s also VEGAN and has no refined sugar. In other words,  my kind of cookie. I’m not vegan, but I dont mind when products are, and I certainly like when products are sweetened with other things besides refined sugar. I think this cookie is worth a try.  4 stars

What’s your favorite vegan cookie or baked good?

Along with the delicious Cinna Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter I won a little while ago, my 2nd jar I won was the Bees Knees from Peanut Butter & Co.

One thing I noticed about this peanut butter was that it wasn’t vegan. I remember seeing a vegan label on some of the Peanut Butter & Co.’s peanut butter, which made me curious as to why this one wasn’t. After doing some research, I saw that honey wasn’t vegan! Who knew! (If anyone knows for sure, please correct me!)

Anyway-

Onto the peanut butter. In a word? It was….Delicious! Thick, smooth, and very peanut buttery. It had little granules in it,  along with a pleasant sweetness from the honey. I like that you can taste both the honey and the peanut butter. I had mine directly from the spoon (when does that not happen?), but I think it would be AWESOME on a peanut butter and banana sandwich! (kind of like the Elvis sandwich!!)

I even thought the label was cute- the monkey looks like a bee!

Overall, really tasty!  It was a tad high in sugar, but not too terrible. I would definitely buy this one in the future 4 1/2 stars

I won an awesome contest where I got 3 free jars of Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter. Of the three I chose, I picked one of my favorites, White Chocolate Wonderful, and this one, Cinnamon Raisin Swirl.

I opened my jar, and saw no oil separation, so that was a plus. Another thing I noticed, was a lot of the raisins were on the bottom! Here’s a pic of the bottom of my jar, so you can see for yourself.

Even after eating  a serving or so, there still was very minimal raisins on top.

I wasn’t really complaining however,  because it’s not like I couldn’t easily stir it. AND, the peanut butter by itself, even without the raisins, was so delicious!

It was a smooth peanut butter, but if you “chew” the peanut butter, you can detect granules similar in consistency to sugar. The cinnamon flavor was certainly prominent, which I liked. You can taste both the sweetness and the cinnamon flavor, with the beautiful flavor of a rich peanut butter. The raisins were soft, chewy and sweet. It was really delicious. Honestly, all I needed was a spoon, and I was happy (;

Overall, 4 1/2 stars. Certainly delicious. I liked it both when I tried it with the raisins and without the raisins. I’ll just have a few extra “surprises” waiting for me at the bottom of my jar (:

What’s your favorite food involving raisins? I happen to be fond of chocolate covered raisins (;

And here’s a snapshot of the nutritional facts.
