Reviewing one of my favorite things… peanut butter!

I recently ordered a few jars of Naturally Nutty peanut butter online, and one of them that interested me was the Honey Roasted Cinnamon Peanut Butter. C’mon, how good does that sound!?!?

According to the jar, it’s “made with Flax Seed” and “Hemp Seed” and has “omega-3 (ALA): 370 mg per svg. [serving]“. So, aside from the honey, there was cinnamon, peanuts, and some great nutrition facts!

I opened the jar, and noticed very minimal oil on top (hardly any)- a good sign for me already. As much as I love the natural peanut butters, I’m not a huge fan of stirring and stirring a jar of nut butter to get it to set. I took a spoonful, and here’s what it looked like.

I LOVED the consistency of this peanut butter. Not runny, but not stiff. Very thick and almost hearty, and while it wasn’t super smooth, it wasn’t chunky either. It stated it was “smooth” on the jar, but I would say it was more of an inbetween.

As I opened the jar, it had a nice fresh cinnamon smell to it. I tasted a bit, and unfortunately wasn’t as happy as I thought I would be. It kind of had an overpowering cinnamon flavor to it, without enough sweetness to back it up. In fact, where was the honey? All I tasted was peanut butter and cinnamon. It did have a rather delicious peanut butter flavor- thick, rich, just like peanuts you’d eat out of a bowl. But it wasn’t sweet, and I was disappointed.

Overall 3 stars. A good peanut butter, but not what I was expecting. Where’s the honey!?!

16 Handles Frozen Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Ok. I’m an avid frozen yogurt fan- and so far, this is one of the best places I have ever been to. I’ve been there a few times, and decided it needs a review on this website for all of you to hear about and perhaps go enjoy it, too!

One word that comes to mind? AMAZING.

I walked in, and went to the back of the store. They had a few “stations” if you will, with the flavors named and handles to pull. It’s self-serve! Pick as much or as little as you want! For obvious reasons (such as it’s pure awesome-ness) I went for the peanut butter flavor (how could I NOT get the peanut butter?)

Then, there was a topping bar, that had pretty much everything from fruity, to sweet, to crunchy. I saw cheesecake bites, cookie dough bites, brownie bites, mango, lychee, bananas, and so much more. I went for cookie dough bites and banana this time.

Here’s what my cup of deliciousness looked like.

yea... i ate some before I took the picture. I always forget to take the picture, THEN eat!!!

Then, they weighed my cup, I paid, and enjoyed!

The peanut butter flavor was phenomenal. Super creamy, sweet, and savory at the same time. Literally, I wish I could buy this by the gallon. I think it was almost exactly like soft serve ice cream in consistency. In fact, if you told me it was ice cream, I would have believed you!

The cookie dough was also delicious. Just like the cookie dough that comes in ice cream tastes. Soft, sweet, buttery and just perfect. I saved all of mine for the end and ate them all ate once- a cookie dough blob, I guess you could call it.

And lastly, the banana slices, fresh and mildly sweet. Sort of like when I eat a banana that’s perfectly yellow with no brown spots- it’s sweet, but not super sweet, and still has a good amount of firmness to it.

Overall, do I recommend this place? (is that a serious question?) Of course I do!!! I would give it 4 1/2 stars. Some of the yogurt is a bit high in sugar, but I love the idea of this place. You get to choose exactly what you want!

Have you ever been to 16 Handles? What’s your favorite flavor and/or toppings?

Well… it’s my last review…(of 2010! I’m not going anywhere! =P )

And to honor the great year of 2010 (thanks for all who read, comment and participate! you guys are great!), I’ll end it with one of my favorite things (hopefully you can guess…)

a peanut butter! (although you probably already knew that after you read the title of the review…but anyway…)

Archer’s Farms Vanilla Cranberry Peanut Butter is one of my favorite peanut butters. Honestly, just give me a spoon and a jar of this stuff and I’ll be happy : )

It has such unexpected, great flavor. It’s creamy, just like the jar says, and pretty thick, but still has that slightly runny consistency. It smells like peanut butter with a slight vanilla scent, and there are tiny pieces of peanuts and cranberries throughout the jar. The flavor is a rich peanut taste with sweet undertones. The cranberries are really good- sweet and not tart at all.I can really taste the vanilla too- just really good!

My favorite way to eat this is on toast (and straight from the jar, of course!). I feel a peanut butter isn’t good for me unless I can eat it straight from the jar. Incredibly tasty, I highly recommend it! Without a doubt, 5 stars.

Archer’s Farms Cinnamon Peanut Butter

Author: Healthnuttxo

Yesterday I went to Target, and although I have about 30 jars of nut butter in my house already (literally there is a “Nut Butter” Spot in my closet), something drew me to this peanut butter. Creamy Cinnamon Peanut Butter by Archer’s Farms. I have been drawn to this peanut butter before, but never actually bought it until yesterday.

I was so excited to try it, the second I got home I took off the lid and gave it a stir. It was very runny, even after stirring it didn’t thicken up much. I thought about refrigerating it, but it said it capitals on the back “DO NOT REFRIGERATE”. So, I didn’t want anything weird to happen, so I listened. Nooooo refrigeration for this peanut butter!

Anyway-

I tasted it, and was slightly taken aback. I was expecting a cinnamon-sugar tasting peanut butter. Like a sweet peanut butter with a cinnamon after taste. Nope. THis was the type of cinnamon that was in those red cinnamon candies. Almost like a slightly spicy cinnamon. It was so bizarre.

While I can’t say I hated it, I also can’t really picture eating it out of the jar like I would with my other nut butters. Perhaps I’ll try it out on toast and see how it goes.

Until then, 3 stars. Not super excited about the taste or texture for that matter, too runny, but it was a very creamy peanut butter. Only 3 ingredients and all natural too!

A cookie… with 15 grams of protein, all natural, and peanut butter flavored?

I like the sound of that…

Lenny & Larry’s makes The Complete Cookie, which comes in a few flavors, including the Peanut Butter flavor I was sent for free to try for a review. I found out from the website that this cookie is also vegan, and has 5 grams of fiber. The website further stated that “The Complete Cookie is the perfect, healthy snack.” Well, let’s give it a try!

First, I looked at the nutrition. This cookie had 2 servings in it, but it was a rather LARGE cookie. Weighing 4 ounces, this cookie packed 426 calories,14 grams of fat, 620mg of sodium, 60 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fiber, 24 grams of sugar, and 15 grams of protein. So, I’d have to disagree a little bit there and say that this is more than a “healthy snack”, and perhaps more of a meal.

Anyway-

The cookie was a pale orange in color, with bits of peanuts scattered throughout. It was soft, but didn’t fall apart, and was actually a little dense and chewy. It had a rather unexpected taste.. kind of like a butter cookie with a peanut butter flavor. it was also kind of salty tasting, and yet at the same time, had a brown sugar aftertaste. In other words, it had a lot going on. I didn’t really love the flavor, but it wasn’t bad. I do wish that there was more of a peanut butter flavor, since, I looooooove me some peanut butter :P

Overall, I’m giving it 3 stars. It wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t too bad either. I just didn’t like that in order to get the 15 grams of protein, there was also 426 calories, and 14 grams of fat! That’s like a meal! But, I could see eating half maybe after a fun kickboxing class or other workout for some post-activity fuel :)

2 oz. (half a cookie) is 213 calories, 7 grams of fat, 30 grams of carbs, 2.5 grams of fiber, 12 grams of sugar, and 7.5 grams of protein.

What’s a Golden Smacker?

Well, to be honest, I wasn’t really sure. Sure it looked tasty- anything involving milk chocolate has to be good to me! But, according to the website, “This smacker is covered in a creamy milk chocolate and is the perfect all-natural treat for those who love the combination of honey, peanut butter, oats, and milk chocolate!”

Well, I’m pretty sure I’m going to like it. I DO like “honey, peanut butter, oats, and milk chocolate!”

So, I opened up the package and was quite impressed- it was actually pretty big, and it reminded me of an oversized peanut butter patty. I took a bite and found that it was sweet, but not sugary sweet. It had more of a mild honey flavor. The milk chocolate on the outside was smooth, with peanut butter on the inside. There was also I believe crisp rice on the inside of the patty, which kind of took away from the peanut butter flavor. I sort of wish the crisp rice wasn’t there, and it was just milk chocolate and peanut butter.

Otherwise, a nice treat. It is a tad high in fat, 10 grams per Golden Smacker, but it does have 6 grams of protein! If I’m going to eat a treat, there might as well be some protein in it to help keep me full! I give it 3 1/2 stars overall.

1 Original Milk Chocolate Golden Smacker is 190 calories, 10 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbohydrates, 11 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein.

*Question* What’s your favorite chocolate and peanut butter combination? I like to have peanut butter on chocolate muffins :)

Crazy Camel Peanut Butter Dessert Hummus

Author: Healthnuttxo

MMM… Peanut Butter!
MMM… Hummus!
MMM… Peanut butter hummus?

Yep!

Crazy Camel makes DESSERT hummus! Flavors like Toasted Almond, Chocolate Mousse, and PEANUT BUTTER! I tried a few (and reviewed some) in the past, and today it’s all about the Peanut Butter Flavor!

Being the peanut butter lover I am, I was happy excited to try this flavor. Something peanut buttery, that I could dip things into, other than peanut butter? Hmm… :)

So I opened up the container and tried a little bit- yummmmayy! :)

It was a light peanut flavor, that was slightly sweet as well. I could taste the chickpeas, but it wasn’t overpowering. I would have preferred a bit of a stronger peanut flavor, and a more savory flavor, but it was still good. I decided to have it on some toast- but, I mixed it with some actual peanut butter as well. It was good!

Overall, I give this 4 stars. While it wasn’t a substitute for peanut butter, it was a nice peanut butter tasting treat. It was also all natural, gluten free and dairy free too!

So here’s a question if you’d like to answer,- If you could make ANY flavor hummus, what would it be?

Don’t forget the Sahale Snack Giveaway!!  =)

I don’t know about you, but I was always a fan of mini snacks when I was younger. I think they are so cute- and, you usually get a bigger portion size for roughly the same amount of calories as the bigger counterpart!

So, you can count on it that I was certainly happy when I got a box of each Mini Cheddar Cheese and Mini Peanut Butter Bite Sized Sandwich Crackers to try given to me from Late July!

First, I tried the Mini Cheddar Cheese ones. I opened the box and saw a lot of little sandwich crackers- yum!  I couldn’t agree more with the front of the box, as it said “Buttery Tasting Rich Crackers” for the cracker part, and “White Cheddar Cheese” for the cheese filling. It’s EXACTLY what it tasted like! The cracker was salty a buttery, a bit dry, and soft/flaky. The cheese had a nice white cheddar flavor, that was salty and slightly tangy.  I liked that I got 13 crackers for one serving size, of only 110 calories!

The Peanut Butter ones were just as good. The cracker tasted the same, salty, buttery and slightly dry, with a thick peanut butter on the inside. Thick in consistency, not amount. It had that stick-to-the-roof-of-my-mouth peanut butter, that wasn’t oily at all. It was also a slightly sweet peanut butter- yum! I do wish there was a bit more peanut butter on the inside, but still delicious!

Overall, these get 4 stars. I love that I get 13 crackers (1 oz) for a serving size, that these are organic, and I loved twisting each cracker off one by one, and eating them that way. Brought me back to when I was little =) On the downside, there is hardly any fiber in these (less than 1 gram per serving), and they are a bit high in sodium (310 mg for cheddar cheese, 240 mg for peanut butter) and fat. But, I think they are a great snacking alternative, and are quite tasty, too!

13 crackers is 110 calories, 7-9 grams of fat, 16-18 grams of carbohydrates, less than 1 gram of fiber, 2-3 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein.

Seeing as I really enjoyed the Nature’s Path Peanut Butter Panda Puffs, I was sure I would like the Peanut Butter Crispy Rice Bar that I was sent to try as well!

There’s yet another cute panda on the package of the bar, which made me feel like a kid all over again =) . The organic bar is also gluten free.

I opened up the package, and saw a brown colored bar, and a lot fo pieces that resembled puffed rice. The bar was a bit sticky, and held together quite easily. It was soft, airy, and chewy, and  not too salty tasting. It didn’t really have a savory peanut butter flavor, but kind of reminded me of a sweet peanut butter flavor, rather than the type I would eat from the jar. There was also a slight molasses flavor.

Overall, I would give this 3 1/2 stars. I consider it a rather light snack by itself, and think it would be good for those days I might not be hungry, but want something to eat. I do like that it’s organic, gluten free, and a decently sized bar for only 110 calories!

1 bar (28 grams) is 110 calories, 3 grams of fat, 20 grams of cabohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 7 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Presenting… one of the BEST granolas I have ever tasted! Nature’s Path sent me a box of their Organic Peanut Butter Granola to try, and all I can say is this is the yummiest peanut butter granola I have ever had (and I LOVE peanut butter!!)

According to the box, this granola is vegan, organic, provides 7 grams of protein per serving (3/4 cup or 55 grams), and is whole grain. I was so excited to try this- peanut butter? Granola? Organic? Let me taste it, please!! : )

The granola itself is softer than what I am used to, but still crunchy. There are also little peanuts scattered throughout the box, which I found quite enjoyable. It really added to the overall DELICIOUS, rich, and just a tad bit sweet peanut butter flavor this granola provided.

What really made me fall in love was that I got some “peanut butter chunks” in my box- as in melt-in-my mouth, soft, peanut buttery GOODNESS! They were quite big, too, and absolutely delicious. I was actually upset that there were only a few in the box, it was the best part!

Overall, this granola gets 5 stars. Seriously- if you are a fan of peanut butter, I HIGHLY recommend giving this cereal a try. The only thing stopping me from eating this straight from the box all day is that 3/4 of a cup is 260 calories, with 11 grams of fat. A tad bit high for my preferences for that portion size. Otherwise, this granola ROCKS!!!! : )

3/4 cup (55 grams) is 260 calories, 11 grams of fat, 35 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 9 grams of sugar, and 7 grams of protein.
