Naturally More Peanut Butter

Author: Healthnuttxo

Peanut Butter. Not a day goes by that I don’t consume either A. some type/variety of peanut butter or B. apples. (what a coincidence that they go perfectly together!) I’m always up for new varieties to try, like the Naturally More Peanut Butter. I had tried the Organic Naturally More Peanut Butter, and really enjoyed it. I was hoping I’d like the original as well!

Some interesting things about this peanut butter, it has 4 grams of fiber and 10 grams of protein for a 2 Tbsp serving, with only 11 grams of fat. According to the jar, this peanut butter is “fortified with flax seed, flax oil and other nutrients” as well as containing “omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. It’s What Peanut Butter Should Be!” Sounds good to me!

So I opened up the jar and noticed a thick layer of oil and floating flax seeds on top. Not the prettiest, but nothing a little stirring couldn’t fix. I stirred it up and placed it in the fridge to set for a little while. Then I opened it up later on and noticed a nice creamy peanut butter, with the oil seperation very minimal if any since refrigeration. I took some off a spoon and tasted it.

I would say this peanut butter has some pros and cons. I liked that it wasn’t too salty or too sweet, and had a pretty good peanut butter flavor. I liked that it was higher in fiber and protein than traditional peanut butter, and had omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. I also kind of liked the little bit of crunch that the flaxseeds provided, almost like a crunchy peanut butter.

But…

I didn’t really like the flaxseed flavor that was quite noticeable. I’m the type of person who likes to eat peanut butter straight from the jar, and while this peanut butter is good, I don’t think I’ll be eating it off of a spoon.  However, I did spread it on a chocolate muffin, and it was TASTY! I couldn’t really detect the flax seed flavor at all.

Overall, 3 stars by itself, 4 stars spread on something, brings this to a 3 1/2 overall. I think I’ll stick to the Organic Naturally More Peanut Butter for spoon and jar peanut butter consumption :P

2 tbsp. is 169 calories, 11 grams of fat, 8 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 2 grams of sugar and 10 grams of protein.

Betty Lou’s Coconut Macadamia Ball

Author: Healthnuttxo

Don’t forget the Sahale Snack Giveaway!! :)

Betty Lou’s Coconut Macadamia Ball. What is that, exactly? Well this product is a ball of goodness- protein, good flavor, all natural ingredients- the works! I also found out on the website, it is gluten free and soy free!

Betty Lou’s sent me some products to try, including this Coconut Macadamia Ball. At first when I saw it, I was a bit skeptical. It looked, well, small! 150 calories for a small ball?  I hope it tastes good!

Well, it actually was quite good. It’s COVERED in coconut, so if you like coconut, I think you’ll like this! It was a chewy, very dense, and sweet product. I tasted more coconut than macadamia nut, but it was still tasty either way. It sort of had a typical protein bar-ish taste to it, which I can’t really describe, but I’m guessing it’s from the whey protein in the ball.

Overall, I’m giving it 3 1/2 stars. It was actually not as small as I thought it was, and quite filling, too! I love that it’s all natural, has a good amount of fiber, and in the shape of a cute ball! According to the website, “Try this natural protein ball for a quick and healthy on-the-go snack“- I couldn’t agree more! :)

1 ball is 150 calories, 7 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, 8 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fiber, and 10 grams of protein.

Don’t forget the Sahale Snack Giveaway!! :)

So, alongside the DELICIOUS Peanut Butter Muscle Brownie I was sent from  Lenny & Larry’s, they also gave me the Cookies & Cream Muscle Brownie.

Same awesomeness in my opinion, with it’s all natural ingredients, and 20 grams of protein for an 80 gram brownie. Protein + brownies= YES! : )

WHAT am I waiting for? Let’s give this a try NOW!!

I opened up the package, and saw a dark brown colored brownie, with almost a white icing on top. It was kind of small, but thick and dense. It smelled very sweet, and had a vanilla aroma as well.

So, how did it taste? I only have one word to describe it.

Protein-licious.

As in, HOW is there protein in this deliciousness!?!? The brownie itself was soft and chewy, very slightly gritty, fudgy and sweet. The icing on top really wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be, but was pretty good. There were also little bits in the cookie, which I thought were walnuts, but they were actually soft and sweet. So, I’m assuming they are not walnuts. I believe they were either ”cookie bits” or “marshmallow flavored pieces” according to the ingredients.

Overall, Cookies & Cream Muscle Brownies ROCK! As if I needed another excuse to eat a brownie, this one has lots of filling protein, and great flavor, as well as natural ingredients. One thing I didn’t really like was the fact that it was a bit high in sugar (11 grams for half an 80 gram brownie), and there was corn syrup listed in the ingredients (s0mething I try to stay away from). Also, there were TWO servings in the 80 gram brownie, which it took almost all of my willpower to only eat half at a time (it’s so good!).  Although, now that I think about it, a good-sized dessert brownie can be around 300 calories, give or take, with most of the calories I’m assuming coming from fat or sugar/carbohydrates. At least if someone I eat the whole brownie, it’s 340 calories, and 20 grams of PROTEIN!! : )

So… 4 1/2 stars : )

1.41 Oz (40 grams)  is 170 calories, 5 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbohydrates, 11 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber and 10 grams of protein.

*** I also did a guest post on Yum Yucky. You can see it HERE! :) ****

Nature’s Path is one of my favorite brands when it comes to organic food. I have yet to this day had a product from this brand that I haven’t liked. To add to my list of favorites, is the Optimum Blueberry Cinnamon Cereal that I was sent to try from Nature’s Path.

So what’s so special about this cereal? Well there’s a few things I like.

One- a serving size is ONE CUP! WOO HOO!
Two- There’s only 9 grams of sugar in 1 cup of cereal!
Three- there’s 7 grams of fiber and 9 grams of protein
Four- it’s ORGANIC!

Okay, so all that’s great, right? But, how does it taste?

Yummmmayyy!

One of the things I love is cinnamon, and this cereal has a great cinnamon flavor. Fresh, lightly sweetened, real cinnamon. There wasn’t much of a blueberry flavor, but there was tiny blueberries scattered throughout the cereal that tasted good. There were crunchy and HARD noodle/twig shaped pieces, and flakes. What I really liked was that the crunch held up in my almond milk and sliced banana, and it had a good amount of sweetness. 4 1/2 stars

1 cup is 200 calories, 3 grams of fat, 38 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams of fiber, 9 grams of sugar and 9 grams of protein.

Promax Cookies ‘n Cream Bar

Author: Healthnuttxo

Well, I’ll be honest. I’ve tried my fair share of protein bars in the past, and I usually find them to be sort of chalky, dense, or just very bland. However, after trying the Cookies ‘n Cream Bar from Promax, it made me rethink protein bars!

Seriously guys- this bar totally rocked. Not only is there 20 grams of filling protein per bar, it was actually quite big (75 grams)! I opened up the bar and saw a thin white coating, with a dark brown/black colored bar underneath. I took a bite, and was both surprised and totally pleased. This bar was SOFT! Like fudgy and chewy soft! So good, I really loved the consistency. But what did I also love? THE TASTE! Oh yea!! The coating tasted like a sweet vanilla icing, and the bar itself was sweet, slightly chocolatey, and also a slight peanut butter flavor. Just absolutely delicious- all the flavors went together really well.

Overall, 4 1/2 stars. This doesn’t get 5 stars from me because there are 30 grams of sugar in this 75 gram bar, and only 1 gram of fiber. It was very hard to not eat the whole bar in one sitting, which had 270 calories. Besides the awesome flavor and texture, I did like that it had 25% of the calcium needs, and only had 4.5 grams of fat. Nice!!

1 bar is 270 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, 39 grams of carbohydrates, 30 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber, and 20 grams of protein.

Oh yea. Peanut. Butter. Muscle. Brownie.

The generous folks over at Lenny & Larry’s sent me one of these treats to try, and of COURSE I was excited. Not only was it  a brownie, it was a peanut butter brownie, AND it has TWENTY GRAMS of protein per 80 gram brownie!!

So, feeling hungry the other day and in the mood for something sweet and savory, I took out this brownie. It was a thick and rich brownie, with a decent layer of a peanut butter drizzle on top. Some actually stuck to my wrapper a little bit, but no worries! I took a bite, and… These are GOOD!

Very sweet, fudgy, dense, and moist. Just delicious! The brownie part was actually a bit too sweet, but still very good. The best part was the peanut butter topping- creamy, sweet and delicious.

This gets 4 stars from me. It was very good, but there are two servings in a 2.82 ounce package, with 170 calories and 6 grams of fat per serving. This brownie is too delicious not to eat the whole thing at once! I also wish that there was more fiber,  and less sugar. There is only 1 gram of fiber, and 12 grams of sugar per serving. On the bright side, I did like how it was filling, and certainly scrumptious. I can see myself using this as an on-the-go snack or mini meal for when I’m hungry but don’t have time to sit down and eat.

1.41 ounces (40 grams) is 170 calories, 6 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 12 grams of sugar and 10 grams of protein.

Chobani 0% Plain Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

We all know (or hopefully know) how much I looooove yogurt! It’s my healthy and usually sweet treat I make sure I eat everyday! Along with regular yogurt, I also enjoy greek yogurt. Although I normally go for flavored ones, Chobani sent me their 0% Plain Greek Yogurt to try.

The first thing I noticed was that a 6 oz cup is ONLY 100 calories, and 18 grams of protein! I was immediately impressed by that, since I’m not a big meat eater and need dairy/soy/eggs for my main sources of protein. PLus, that is very LEAN protein! No fat, and only 100 calories! Nice!

The texture was super thick and creamy, just like I like it. Unfortunately, I do not really enjoy greek yogurt plain. I did try some of this without anything mixed in or added, and found it rather tart for my likings. So, what could I mix with this? Well, I took some regular chocolate frozen yogurt and mixed it with the greek yogurt and let it freeze for a bit in the freezer. Voila! Yummy chocolate taste, and a boost of protein, with an additional creamier texture.

Overall, I give this 4 stars. Although I would probably never eat it as is, I can always mix something in to sweeten it. I have in the past also used those ranch seasoning powder mixes with plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream, and found that to be an excellent swap. I love that this is high in protein, low in calories, has 0 grams of fat  per 6 ounce serving.

Which makes me curious…
What do you like to mix in with plain greek yogurt? If you’d like to leave a comment, please do so below! : )

Kay’s Naturals Lemon Herb Protein Chips

Author: Healthnuttxo

As someone who really doesn’t eat meat, I really depend on eggs and dairy to get my protein, as well as soy products like tofu. I love when I find tasty, high protein products that are natural and good for you, too!

I got some products from Kay’s Naturals, like the Protein Chips in Lemon Herb flavor.According to the package, these Protein Chips are gluten free, and have 10 grams of protein per serving. I’ll be honest, I was a bit reluctant to try this flavor. Lemon Herb? It didn’t sound like it was going to be as tasty, but it was!

First I was impressed with the portion size. a 1.5 ounce bag (which did have 1.5 servings in it) had a LOT of protein chips! Each chip is sort of in the shape of a rectangle, and has a wave to it. They dont really look identical to the ones depicted on the front. They were light, airy and crispy in texture. The taste was slightly sweet, slightly spicy, and quite salty. I could certainly taste the lemon- it reminded me of a tangy lemon peel or lemon zest, accompanied with a oniony/garlicy flavor.  Actually they kind of reminded me of sour cream and onion chips, with a little bit of sweetness from the lemon!

Overall, these are unique, and quite good! They are a bit high in sodium, but low in fat and calories, and high in protein.  4 stars

Chobani 2% Pineapple Greek Yogurt

Author: Healthnuttxo

Chobani 2% Pineapple Greek Yogurt is now one of my new favorite flavors of greek yogurt.

Chobani sent me some samples to try, including the 2% Pineapple Greek Yogurt. At first, I was a little skeptical. Why 2%? Why not fat free? I mean, this yogurt was 160 calories with 2 grams of saturated fat! But now I know! I really COULD taste the difference between a 0% Chobani and a 2% Chobani. Although both are delicious in my opinion, this yogurt was truly something special.

One of the freshest, and creamiest tasting yogurts I have ever had. The pineapple part in my yogurt was actually not just on the bottom, but I experienced pineapple flavor throughout the entire yogurt. It was a sweet pineapple, that was throughly enjoyable. The yogurt itself was creamy and thick, and I could actually taste the cream. So. Good. I think the next time I get this yogurt I might freeze it a little bit, sort of like pineapple frozen yogurt!

Overall, need I say it? 5 stars ! This yogurt is all natural, gluten free, and high in protein. Although it does have 2 grams of saturated fat per yogurt, it’s just too delicious to pass up.

*What’s your favorite Chobani flavor?? If you’d like to answer, leave a comment below!  : )

1 yogurt is 160 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 21 carbohydrates, 18 grams of sugar, 0 grams of fiber and 13 grams of protein.

Cultured Pasteurized Nonfat Milk, Cream, Pineapple, Evaporated Cane Juice, Pineapple Concentrate, Pectin, Locust Bean Gum, Natural Flavor, Turmeric (for color).

Ever had a Luna Bar? I like these bars because they are tasty, satisfying and just perfect for me after a workout, or as an on-the-go snack. I love that they are all natural, and come in a bunch of flavors.

The people over at Luna sent me two more flavors to try, the Blueberry Bliss and Vanilla Almond bars. When the first arrived, they were a little melted (it was hot out!) so I put them in the fridge. As a result, a WHOLE new way for me to enjoy them! They are actually quite good cold from the fridge!

Each bar is actually decently sized, and pretty dense and chewy. There is a layer of sweet icing on the bottom as well.

Blueberry Bliss- one word can describe this blueberry bar, and Luna definitely picked the right one when it comes to naming it. “BLISS!” It’s so true! This bar was absolutely delicious, even better than I had expected it to be. There was a blueberry fruity topping, with pieces of oats and a little more of the icing on top. I love the blueberry flavor. It reminded me of the blueberry flavor that I used to eat in toaster pastries. It has just the perfect amount of sweetness. Like dessert in a bar. And 70% organic. YUM! 4 1/2 stars

Vanilla Almond- also a very good bar. Actually, I thought I was eating the White Chocolate Macadamia bar (one of my favorite flavors) that Luna also makes, the taste is VERY similar! It has a buttery-sweet flavor to it that I love, and has a rich, yet satisfying flavor. Really enjoyable. I also liked the little specks/flakes of almonds on top of the bar. How could I not enjoy this bar? 4 1/2 stars

Overall, I enjoyed these! I do wish the fiber content was a little higher and the saturated fat content was a little lower, but overall, not bad!! I really think these are perfect for an after lunch-not-quite-dinner snack, and they certainly satisfy my sweet tooth in a much healthier way.

Question: What’s your favorite Luna Bar flavor? if you’d like to answer, please leave a comment! :)
