Cosi Asian Shrimp Salad

Author: Healthnuttxo

SORRY I have been missing as of lately! But no worries, I am back, and here to stay!

Today’s review….Cosi Asian Shrimp Salad!!! MMMM!!!! Because who doesn’t love salads, right? 😉

I ordered this one after a long day and I wanted a nice little treat that was also healthy. I don’t eat out much, due to added sugars, preservatives and such that may be in the foods, as well as sodium. However, this salad definitely hit the spot.

A generous bed of lettuce, with shrimp, edamame, cucumbers, pieces of the Sesame Break Bar, tiny pieces of pineapple, and a yummy dressing. The lettuce was crunchy and fresh, and the shrimp was the perfect consistency. There was a good amount of shrimp, so I know I was getting a good amount of filling protein. That’s really important to me, I do NOT like when I get salads and there is hardly any chicken or protein on it. Not filling enough for me! The shrimp itself was not too chewy or rubbery, which is definitely a plus for me. I loved the tiny bits of pineapple, as they added some zing to the salad. The cucumbers, very crispy and also fresh, were abundant, although I am not a cucumber fan, so sadly most of mine were not eaten 😀

Moving on, the best part of the salad, hands down, was the pieces of the Sesame break Bar. SO GOOD! Crunchy, slightly sweet and nutty, it really pulled the salad together and made it feel like such a treat. I honestly was tempted to see if I could buy just the Sesame Break bar!

Lastly, what’s a salad without a good DRESSING? This one was very good. Tangy yet sweet, and a generous amount. It wasn’t flooded with dressing, which I like, but everything was well coated. It also had a little bit of spice to it.

Overall, a definite try! It also comes in the Asian Salmon Salad variety, but I am more of a shrimp person than salmon. As for the nutrition, according to the website it is

375 calories, 17 grams of fat ( 3 saturated), 1123 mg of sodium (yikes!) , 6 grams of fiber, 25 grams of sugar, and 20 grams of protein.

This salad has a bit too much fat/sodium and sugar for my likings,  but it is a good treat every now and then. It comes with bread and carrots as well. Overall, 4 stars

Newman’s Own Lite Honey Mustard Dressing

Author: Healthnuttxo

I never was much of a salad person until recently. I always would rather eat something more substantial for a meal, like a protein with a veggie and a carb, rather than a salad. However, if paired correctly, a salad actually can be meal-worthy and quite satisfying. Plus…you get to eat croutons and really, who doesn’t like buttery salty and delicious croutons!?!? =)

So, I bought my salad, piled it high of greens and flavored chicken (um…and the croutons) and skipped buying dressing as well since I had this gem, the Newman’s Own Lite Honey Mustard Dressing waiting for me at home.  Here’s a close-up

Now- Honey mustard is usually either awesome, or not good at all. Some are way too spicy, some too tangy, and some have a weird aftertaste. Yet, there’s always a brand every now and then that’s actually quite good. So, I gave this one a try.

Let me tell you, one bite of lettuce coated in this dressing and I was hooked. Can you say- yummy!?!?

It was tangy, yet sweet. I actually checked how much sugar was in a serving, and it had 5 grams per 2 tbsp. which is a bit high in my opinion, but also explains the sweetness. I could really taste the honey, which paired with the tiny bit of salty flavor. This dressing was just so good! It had a little bit of tang from the mustard, but really not too tangy or spicy. In fact, it had the perfect level of spice to it. Although- I did get a forkful that had a LOT of dressing and I got a mild sensation in my nose which I’m assuming is from the mustard. (hey senses- time to wake up!!)

The consistency was impressive too. I find with light dressings sometimes they are very watery in texture. This one had a medium consistency, where it was thick yet still pourable and didn’t slide off all my lettuce and end up on the bottom of the place (pet peeve….).

Overall, definitely one of the best honey mustards I have ever had. So delicious. One thing to note is that it’s hard to NOT eat 2 servings. I used the dressing kind of sparingly and still ended up using about 56 grams, which is almost 2 full servings. Gotta watch out for that sodium and sugar- it creeps up! This gets 4.5 stars from me

Panera Bread Fuji Apple Chicken Salad

Author: Healthnuttxo

I’m not a huge salad person, I’d much rather eat a sandwich, but every now and then I do get a craving for something green, leafy and crunchy. I went to Panera Bread the other day, and got the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad, sans gorgonzola, red onions and pecans. Let me tell you- this is one of the most delicious salads I have ever eaten! It was literally so good, I ate every single last piece of lettuce in that bowl. 🙂

When it first got to my table, I took a look at what I got. Apple chips, big chunks of chicken, lettuce and leaves of different varieties, and tomatoes, all with dressing on it. As a note to myself, I might ask for the dressing on the side next time, not because there was too much, because there was just the right amount, but I noticed some of the dressing went to the bottom and I had a few leaves that were dry. I also loved the fact that the salad was served in a reusable dish rather than plastic or cardboard to throw away – gave it a very “home-like” appeal!

Anyway –

Onto the salad! The  leaves and lettuce was crunchy and fresh. At first I thought I was going to want more lettuce, but by the time I was done I was really satisfied with what I had. The chicken on top was cold, well seasoned/peppery, and chewy. And there was PLENTY of chicken, which I liked, because there was no scrimping there!

Onto my favorite part of the salad, the apple chips. Literally, delicious. I ate one, and saved the rest to the side of my bowl for when I finished the salad as my “treat”. They had the consistency and slight oily texture of potato chips, but with a sweet and crunchy apple flavor. One of my chips even had a stem in it like the real apple would from the tree! I only wish there were more chips- they were so good!

Lastly, the dressing. This dressing was so yummy. It was sweet and had a zing to it that made me pucker, but it was so good! There was plenty of dressing, but as I said, some of it went to the bottom that I had to use my lettuce leaves to scrape up.

Overall, really, really good!  I so wish I could eat salads like that every day (and wish I had the paycheck to support it!) I would certainly get this again. 4 1/2 stars
