Kay’s Naturals Lemon Herb Protein Chips

Author: Healthnuttxo

As someone who really doesn’t eat meat, I really depend on eggs and dairy to get my protein, as well as soy products like tofu. I love when I find tasty, high protein products that are natural and good for you, too!

I got some products from Kay’s Naturals, like the Protein Chips in Lemon Herb flavor.According to the package, these Protein Chips are gluten free, and have 10 grams of protein per serving. I’ll be honest, I was a bit reluctant to try this flavor. Lemon Herb? It didn’t sound like it was going to be as tasty, but it was!

First I was impressed with the portion size. a 1.5 ounce bag (which did have 1.5 servings in it) had a LOT of protein chips! Each chip is sort of in the shape of a rectangle, and has a wave to it. They dont really look identical to the ones depicted on the front. They were light, airy and crispy in texture. The taste was slightly sweet, slightly spicy, and quite salty. I could certainly taste the lemon- it reminded me of a tangy lemon peel or lemon zest, accompanied with a oniony/garlicy flavor.  Actually they kind of reminded me of sour cream and onion chips, with a little bit of sweetness from the lemon!

Overall, these are unique, and quite good! They are a bit high in sodium, but low in fat and calories, and high in protein.  4 stars

1 ounce (30 grams) is 110 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 0 grams of sugar, and 10 grams of protein.

Ever had a Luna Bar? I like these bars because they are tasty, satisfying and just perfect for me after a workout, or as an on-the-go snack. I love that they are all natural, and come in a bunch of flavors.

The people over at Luna sent me two more flavors to try, the Blueberry Bliss and Vanilla Almond bars. When the first arrived, they were a little melted (it was hot out!) so I put them in the fridge. As a result, a WHOLE new way for me to enjoy them! They are actually quite good cold from the fridge!

Each bar is actually decently sized, and pretty dense and chewy. There is a layer of sweet icing on the bottom as well.

Blueberry Bliss- one word can describe this blueberry bar, and Luna definitely picked the right one when it comes to naming it. “BLISS!” It’s so true! This bar was absolutely delicious, even better than I had expected it to be. There was a blueberry fruity topping, with pieces of oats and a little more of the icing on top. I love the blueberry flavor. It reminded me of the blueberry flavor that I used to eat in toaster pastries. It has just the perfect amount of sweetness. Like dessert in a bar. And 70% organic. YUM! 4 1/2 stars

Vanilla Almond- also a very good bar. Actually, I thought I was eating the White Chocolate Macadamia bar (one of my favorite flavors) that Luna also makes, the taste is VERY similar! It has a buttery-sweet flavor to it that I love, and has a rich, yet satisfying flavor. Really enjoyable. I also liked the little specks/flakes of almonds on top of the bar. How could I not enjoy this bar? 4 1/2 stars

Overall, I enjoyed these! I do wish the fiber content was a little higher and the saturated fat content was a little lower, but overall, not bad!! I really think these are perfect for an after lunch-not-quite-dinner snack, and they certainly satisfy my sweet tooth in a much healthier way.

Question: What’s your favorite Luna Bar flavor? if you’d like to answer, please leave a comment! 🙂
*Also- You can check out this video from Luna here! It’s quite inspirational 🙂

Lightlife Smart Bacon

Author: Healthnuttxo

Are you a fan of…..bacon ? When I was younger, I never was much of a bacon eater, but I DID like turkey bacon. I remember always having it with french toast and maple syrup, or even on a BLT sandwich. Delicious!

However,  I don’t really eat meat anymore, so decided these would fit my craving for bacon.  I picked these up at the store with a coupon for a free product that I was sent from LightLife.

According to the website, “Whether nestled up against some scrambled eggs or topping off a burger, Smart Bacon® brings that hearty bacon taste into the veggie world. Plus, being low in saturated fat and naturally cholesterol-free, meat isn’t the only thing it’s missing.”
These are also vegan.

Each strip of Smart Bacon is a pale red/brown in color, thin, and about an inch wide, maybe 3 inches long. Each piece is only 20 calories each, and provides 2 grams of protein. I sprayed my pan with some non-stick cooking spray and cooked these strips over medium heat (and made french toast, on the side, of course!) until the edges got crispy. They didn’t really get ‘curly’ or ‘wavy’ like I remember bacon usually gets, but stayed rather flat. They did however get crispy edges, which I liked.

I took a bite, and was actually quite impressed! They actually really reminded me of turkey bacon! I felt like I was having a real treat on the side of my french toast and maple syrup, and my glass of orange juice- these Smart Bacon strips went just PERFECT! They were crispy, but still had a little bit of chew to them, and had a lot of flavor. They were, however, a bit on the salty side, but dunked in my maple syrup I certainly loved the salty sweet combination! 🙂

Overall, I give these Smart Bacon strips 4 1/2 stars. I can certainly see myself buying these in the future- they were enjoyable and tasted GOOD! I especially liked that each strip was only 20 calories- I could have FIVE Smart Bacon strips for only 100 calories, with 10 grams of protein! They are, however, a bit salty ( 140 mg per strip) but not too bad.

1 Smart Bacon strip is 20 calories, 1 gram of fat, 0 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of sugar, 0 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.

Water, soy protein isolate, wheat gluten, soybean oil, texured soy protein concentrate, textured wheat gluten, less than 2% of: natural smoke flavor, natural flavor (from vegetable sources), grill flavor (from sunflower oil), carageenan, evaporated cane juice, paprika oleoresin (for flavor and color), potassium chloride, sesame oil, fermented rice flour, tapioca dextrin, citric acid, salt.

Luna Protein Bars

Author: Healthnuttxo

Need a little extra protein in your day? Well I think I have a tasty solution for you guys, made by Luna!

I’ve had some Luna Bars before, and certainly enjoyed them. So I was excited to try the Luna Protein Bars I was sent in the mail to try, courtesy of Luna (thanks, guys!). According to the website, “The power of protein keeps you full and feeling good about it, so go ahead—indulge in the chocolatey, nougaty goodness of LUNA Protein. Entirely natural, satisfying and sustaining for under 200 calories.” Each bar is all natural with 12 grams of protein, and added vitamins and minerals. They come in three flavors, Cherry Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and  Cookie Dough. I was most excited to try the Cookie Dough flavor- anything cookie dough flavored HAS to be good in my eyes! 🙂

Each bar is covered in chocolate with a dense, chewy center. I actually thought that they wouldn’t fill me up- they looked a bit tiny. I would say they are about as long as your pointer finger, and then as wide as 2 fingers. However, due to the chewy and dense nature of the bar, and the rich taste, they actually were quite filling! 🙂

Cookie Dough- this one actually reminded me of those candies, the malted milk balls for the flavor. I really didn’t taste much cookie dough flavor, but was more of a salty/sweet chocolate-y flavor. It certainly was the sweetest of the three bars, and I felt like I needed to drink some water with it. It was still pretty yummy, but not as I had expected. 3 1/2 stars

Chocolate Peanut Butter- I liked this one better than the cookie dough flavor, and it wasn’t as sweet. It has a peanutty-taffy like center, that had that “sweet” peanut butter rather than “savory” peanut butter taste. The milk chocolate on the outside was delicious- smooth and yummy. I also liked the little bits/chunks in the bar, which I would assume to be bits of peanuts. 4 stars

Cherry Chocolate Almond- Surprisingly (and ironically), the bar I thought I would like the least, was actually my favorite!  This one was really delicious!! It tasted like a chocolate covered cherry, with the perfect amount of sweetness. It was chewy, but not as dense as the other 2 bars, and also had little bits of almonds for a tiny crunch. The chocolate on the outside was also very good, and went perfect with the cherry flavor. 4 1/2 stars

Overall, these are good. They certainly were satisfying, and quenched my appetite, especially after a hard kickboxing workout. I liked that they are covered with delicious chocolate, low glycemic, and packed with protein and provide important vitamins and minerals like calcium. What I didn’t like was that they are a bit high in saturated fat (3.5- 4 grams), and also a bit high in sugar. However, if you like protein bars and crave some sweetness, I would definitely give these a try!

Cookie Dough– 1 bar is 180 calories, 6 grams of fat, 21 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar and 12 grams of protein.

Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Coating (Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Palm Kernel Oil, Cocoa, Soy Lecithin and Organic Vanilla Extract), Chocolate Chips (Evaporated Cane Juice, Unsweetened Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin, Natural Flavors), Inulin (Chicory Extract), Glycerine, Macadamia Nut Butter, Cocoa Soy Rice Crisps (Soy Protein Isolate, Organic Rice Flour, Organic Alkalized Cocoa, Alkalized Cocoa), Natural Flavors, Salt, Soy Lecithin.

Chocolate Peanut Butter-1 bar is 190 calories, 9 grams of fat, 19 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 13 grams of sugar and 12 grams of protein.

Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Coating (Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Palm Kernel Oil, Cocoa, Soy Lecithin and Organic Vanilla Extract), Chocolate Chips (Evaporated Cane Juice, Unsweetened Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin, Natural Flavors), Inulin (Chicory Extract), Glycerine, Macadamia Nut Butter, Cocoa Soy Rice Crisps (Soy Protein Isolate, Organic Rice Flour, Organic Alkalized Cocoa, Alkalized Cocoa), Natural Flavors, Salt, Soy Lecithin.

Cherry Chocolate Almond-1 bar is 180 calories, 7 grams of fat, 21 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar and 12 grams of protein.

Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Coating (Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Palm Kernel Oil, Cocoa, Soy Lecithin and Organic Vanilla Extract), Inulin (Chicory Extract), Almonds, Glycerine, Macadamia Nut Butter, Dried Cherries, Soy Rice Crisps (Soy Protein Isolate, Rice Flour, Barley Malt Extract), Natural Flavor, Salt, Soy Lecithin.

Morning Star Farms Sweet & Sour Chik’n

Author: Healthnuttxo

Break out the ChopSticks, but DON’T pick up the phone to order Chinese take-out!!

I found a new meal that whoops traditional fast food “sweet & sour chicken’s” BUTT! 🙂

Morning Star Farms Sweet & Sour Chik’n is a veggie entree with chik’n nuggets, peppers, carrots and pineapple chunks all slathered in a sweet and tangy sauce, over a bed of whole grain brown rice.I know your drooling by now. I certainly was when I read the box at my supermarket- I just had to try it!

So after a nice bike ride on this beautiful 80 degree day, my muscles were tired and my stomach was hungry. I decided to pop this entree in the microwave, along with some steamed broccoli for extra veggies. I transfered the entree to a plate, and was surprised to see how much actually came out! This was a NICE sized dinner- no skimpy portions here! I probably didn’t even need the side of broccoli, but I’ll never turn down extra veggies 8)

Onto each component of the meal…

The Chik’n- the chik’n was wrapped in a soft and doughy tempura batter, that I actually enjoyed. It was a little mushy due to the sauce, but tasty nonetheless. The actual “meat” part had the same consistency of chicken, and was similar in taste. When isolated, I could definietely taste a combination of soy and chicken flavors, but when eated with the tempura batter and the sauce- you would never be able to tell it’s not real chicken! I also liked that these were big CHUNKS of chik’n. I got about 4-5 chunks in my entree (see pic below after I took a bite! 😉 )

blurry piece of chik'n. *sigh* i need a better camera!

The Sauce- TOTALLY makes the meal. It’s SO sweet (maybe even a tad bit too sweet- drink water with this meal), but I liked the sweetness, as it balanced the tang out nicely. There is a very strong pineapple/ketchup flavor, that blends nicely. There is also a TON of sauce- every component of this meal gets covered, no naked veggies or rice ! 🙂

The Veggies/Rice- this meal has primarily carrots, red, green & yellow peppers, and pineapple. The peppers and carrots were soft and tender, and went nicely with the meal. I loved the warm pineapple chunks- deeelish! Warm pineapple never fails, and it was juicy & sweet!  The rice was a tad bit chewy, but was actually quite good.

Overall, don’t like the “chik’n” part of this meal scare you meat lovers (or veggie protein haters >:( ) away! This meal ROCKS! I give it 4 1/2 stars. It was filling, low in fat, and WAY better than Chinese Food. It was also relatively low in sodium for a frozen entree (550 mg, 23% daily values). The only reason this meal loses half a star is because there is only 4 grams of fiber ( I prefer my dinners to have at least a little more!), refined sugar (oh, man!), and contains some funky modified ingredients, like modified vegetable gum and modifed corn starch- “natural” per se, but not straight from the garden if you catch my drift.

Otherwise- this meal was carton-lickin’ GOOD!  You can bet all the sauce was GONE, and every morsel was eaten!! 🙂

1 entree is 340 calories, 6 grams of fat, 56 carbohydrates (12 sugars), 4 grams of fiber and 14 grams of protein.

WATER, TEMPURA VEGGIE CHIK’N NUGGETS (CHIK’N [WATER, SOY PROTEIN, WHEAT GLUTEN, NATURAL FLAVORS, POTATO STARCH, CANOLA OIL AND/OR SAFFLOWER OIL, PEA PROTEIN, MODIFIED VEGETABLE GUM, CARROT FIBER, BEET ROOT FIBER, EVAPORATED CANE JUICE, YEAST EXTRACT, SEA SALT], BATTER [WHEAT FLOUR, MODIFIED CORN STARCH, SALT, CORN FLOUR, YELLOW CORN MEAL, SUGAR, SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE, SODIUM BICARBONATE, GUAR GUM, SPICE, SUNFLOWER OIL, CALCIUM SILICATE], BREADING [OAT BRAN, WHEAT FLOUR, CORN FLOUR, SALT, SUGAR, SUNFLOWER SEED OIL, CALCIUM SILICATE]), BROWN RICE, RED BELL PEPPERS, GREEN BELL PEPPERS, WHITE VINEGAR (WHITE VINEGAR AND WATER), PINEAPPLE (PINEAPPLE, PINEAPPLE JUICE), CARROTS, SUGAR, TOMATO KETCHUP (WATER, TOMATO PASTE, SUGAR, CONTAINS TWO PERCENT OR LESS OF VINEGAR, SEA SALT, ONION POWDER, GARLIC POWDER, SPICES), TOMATO PASTE (TOMATOES), PINEAPPLE JUICE CONCENTRATE, RICE STARCH, GINGER PUREE (GINGER, WATER), SOY SAUCE (WATER, SOYBEANS, SALT, WHEAT), CANOLA OIL, ORANGE JUICE CONCENTRATE, TOASTED SESAME OIL, ROASTED GARLIC, SALT, GARLIC.

Lightlife Smart Wings Honey BBQ

Author: Healthnuttxo

I feel this is an appropriate review, especially with football season coming to an end and the SUPERBOWL coming into play. Plus, who doesn’t like saucy, honey, barbe-quey anything ? 😀

And so, scanning the natural section at my local grocery store, I saw LightLife Smart Wings in Honey BBQ and Buffalo flavor. I’m a sweet kinda girl, not so much spicy, so I picked up the Honey BBQ flavor with the coupon LightLife sent me.

Each box of these veggie protein wings comes with 8 wings, or two servings. They are so cute too- shaped like actual chicken wings! But, no chicken here. These are totally vegetarian (they do contain egg white, however, for those of you who are vegan). I made these both ways as suggested, Microwave & in the frying pan. I suggest the Frying Pan, as LightLife does too. Done in the microwave, the veggie wing came out a bit chewier than when I used the frying pan to heat these babies up.

Now, onto the TASTE!
These are freakin’ delicious! They really are finger lickin’ good. They are covered in a sweet, barbeque sauce, which had hints of molasses, honey and a garlicy tomato flavor. I was literally licking the sauce off the packet it came in- so tasty! They were a wee bit salty, but still very good. Some of you may be worried about the texture– as veggie products can be chewy or..weird.. in texture. But not the case here- these wings do have a bite to them, but are chewy like a burger. Chewy in a good way if you will- they have the appropriate consistency.

I had these with some Annie’s Organic Macaroni & Cheese & broccoli (and some chocolate milk-not shown), and I was full all the way until snack time. They pack in protein and fiber, and are very satisfying. You could even have them as a snack with some raw veggies on the side, as they don’t need any extra dip. They are the 3 S’s- Sweet, Salty & Savory. And surprisingly-NO FAT!! (take THAT Pizza Hut!!) I give these 4 1/2 stars!

                                                            *I know your drooling… 🙂 !*

1 serving (4 wings) is 120 calories, 0 grams of fat, 16 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, and 13 grams of protein.

Kay's Naturals Protein Cereal

Author: healthnuttxo

Protein Cereal? What on EARTH is that? Read on, bloggies! 🙂

Kay’s Naturals is a brand that makes better alternatives to snacks, packed with nutritious protein and fiber for satiety.  They make a whole assortment of snacks and cereals to please all, and they are mostly Gluten Free.

I was sent some products to try from Kay’s Naturals, including the Protein Cereal in Apple Cinnamon and French Vanilla flavors to try.  The cereals have no trans fats, are gluten free, and have 9 grams of protein per 100 calorie serving (1 oz of cereal). Each of the cereals are ring shapes and have a light and crunchy texture.

Apple Cinnamon- These were very good. They tasted like a combination of apple cinnamon flavors with a hint of a vanilla flavor as well. They had a good amount of sweetness too to accompany the cinnamon flavor, and I liked the little pieces of dehydrated apples on each piece. They were addicting, and curbed my hunger until dinner time,

French Vanilla– Yum! I liked these better than the apple cinnamon variety, but I enjoyed both for the most part. They were a little bit sweeter than the apple cinnamon, and had a light vanilla and cinnamon flavor. I also tasted just a touch of honey to these crispy pieces. They paired nicely with my yogurt 🙂

Overall, these deserve 4 stars. You get a nice portion of cereal to munch on for only 100 calories, and you get 9 grams of  protein per serving!

Apple Cinnamon- Soy protein isolate, yellow corn flour, rice flour, tapioca starch, inulin, pea fiber, natural honey, evaporated cane juice, dehydrated apple pieces, canola oil, cinnamon powder, vanilla extract, natural flavoring, baking powder, double-acting leavening agents, salt.

French VanillaSoy protein isolate, yellow corn flour, rice flour, tapioca starch, inulin, pea fiber, natural honey, evaporated cane juice, canola oil, cinnamon powder, vanilla extract, natural flavoring, baking powder, double-acting leavening agents, salt.

Lightlife Smart Deli Roast Turkey

Author: Healthnuttxo

So with Thanksgiving (gobble gobble!) rounding the corner, i figured I would do a whole bunch of Thanksgiving-related posts.
Here we have a “turkey” to review. I consider myself a “somewhat” vegetarian. I really don’t eat meat or fish- only if I go to a party or some other celebration and I don’t want  to make a fuss. However, when i do eat meat, i don’t eat beef or porc products. So, Thanksgiving is pretty much the only time of year i eat Turkey. So, I was rather curious when I saw Smart Deli Roast Turkey in stores by me. It is a fat free lunch meat alternative,  made with veggie and soy protein. Normally I’m skeptical of these products- I’ve tried a “ground beef” version once and had a rather, icky, experience. Too gummy, weird taste, you get the deal. However, I thought I would give this “deli meat” a shot- I mean why not? I was craving some turkey, and Thanksgiving was still a few days away…

The Roast Turkey is cholesterol free, without MSG, nitrates, and other fillers in standard cold cuts. It was round in shape, sort of like bolongna cold cuts, and had a brown/tan color. It smelt mildy spicy/peppery as I opened the package. I took a bite and….to my surprise, it was good! “Yum” was actually the first word that popped into my head. It tasted like TURKEY! How they do this, I’ll never know, but it was certainly yummy. It wasn’t too salty either, and had a nice spiced flavor with some onion and garlic mixed in. The consistency was also the same as cold cuts, not gummy or chewy, but pretty much the same as a slice you’d get from the deli counter. I even fooled my mom with this product asking her if she liked “the new turkey flavor that the store carried”. She said it was good and she would like it with a slice of cheese on a sandwich- but she didn’t know it wasn’t Turkey!

Overall, I give this 4 stars. I had a serving after a rigorous kickboxing class and it held me over until lunch with the yummy protein it provided. I think it was good by itself, but would be awesome on a sandwich, on some crackers, or maybe even rolled up hot with some all natural gravy. Yum! I’m interested in trying more of the deli selections by LightLife since the Turkey flavor was a hit. Perhaps you can save a turkey this year ? 🙂

So bloggies- have you had any good or (gross!) experiences with “meat alternatives”? Any brands you reccommend/hate? Let me know here!

4 slices is 100 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 5 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber and 13 grams of protein. There are 300 mg (13%) per 4 slices, which isn’t too shabby, either.

WATER, WHEAT GLUTEN, SOYBEAN OIL, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, SOY SAUCE (WATER, SOYBEANS, WHEAT, SALT), NAVY BEAN FLOUR, LESS THAN 2% OF: TOFU POWDER (DEHULLED SOYBEANS, CALCIUM SULFATE), RICE BRAN, AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, NATURAL FLAVOR (FROM PLANT SOURCES), SALT, CARRAGEENAN, WHEAT STARCH, CALCIUM LACTATE, ONION POWDER, GARLIC POWDER, SEA SALT, CITRIC ACID.

Luna Bars are great. I’ve only had 2 prior to these new ones, White Chocolate Macadamia and Nuts over Chocolate, and I loved both. White Chocolate Macadamia is a staple in my house, delicious! I reviewed it before, you can check that out here.
Luna Bars are directed toward women (but you dudes out there will love them too!), and are fortified with vitamins and minerals and come in 14 flavors. They are all natural, of course, and 70% organic. I use them mostly post workout because they have a good dose of protein with fiber, and a little fat. Perfect for recovery!
Anywho– I was sent the Berry Almond, Lemon Zest and Caramel Nut Brownie flavors with the New Recipe logo on them to try. I was most excited about Caramel Nut Brownie (uh, who ISN’T!?) and scared to try Lemon Zest. Lemon? and Soy Protein? Well, i’m not one to judge till I taste, so here we go!

Berry Almond- so not what i expected! I was expecting a mild berry flavor, but this one is sweet and berry-licious 😉 . It’s even purple in color! No icing on this one (aw, man!), but it’s still plenty sweet. It has flavors of cranberry, blueberry, and pomegranate all mixed together. I think i even tasted a little bit of black current. The mixture of berry flavors is very good, slightly tart, but mostly sweet. The almonds added a nice touch too, and a nice little crunch. I give this one 4 stars.

Lemon Zest- uh, can we say, yummy!? I thought i wasn’t going to like this one. I’m not fond of lemons, lemonade, lemon flavored anything really, probably due to the tartness. But this one was good. It was “bright” tasting, if i can use that as an adjective to describe food 🙂 . It was not tart at all, (I think they should perhaps they should take away “Zest” in the name?) but rather sweet. The creamy icing was really good too. I even detected a bit of a honey flavor. This one gets 4 1/2 stars for me 🙂

Caramel Nut Brownie- wow, this one really did remind me of the flavor of a fudgy brownie! I liked the pretty icing design on the top, too! I didn’t detect too much of a caramel flavor, more of a dark chocolate flavor. Even a hint of mocha or coffee flavor, but not too much. It was also enjoyable, and good to nix a chocolate craving in the boootayy. 4 stars!

Overall, these were really good. Perfect post gym or when you have some major hunger pains and some cravings for something sweet. I really want to try the cookies & cream flavor. What flavor is your favorite?

Each bar is 170-190 calories, 3.5-6 grams of fat, 27-29 carbohydrates, 3-4 grams of fiber, and 8-9 grams of protein. They are also a good source of calcium and other important vitamins & minerals!

Can Do Nutrition/Energy Bars

Author: healthnuttxo

Hey guys- sorry it’s been a while. School, work and just a LOT to do lately. But I’m back, never fear!

CANNNDO

Can Do Energy/Nutrition bars are geared towards kids who live active lifestyles. The bar was forumlated to help active kids get the nutrition they need while eating something that was tasty as well. The slogan is “It’s not about age, it’s about attitude!” A Can Do Kid can do anything! Of course, these bars can be eaten by anyone, even the kid at heart (like myself!). They are all natural, contain no trans fats,  no high fructose corn syrup, have 17 vitamins & minerals, and are now gluten free.

The Can Do company sent me all three of the flavors, Chocolate Crunch, Cookies & Cream, and Canilla Vanilla. Each of the packages has 2 conveinent bars, so if you want “one now and one for later”, you can do that, or eat both at the same time for a super energy boost!

Cookies & Cream– This didn’t really taste “cookies & creamy” to me. It tasted more like a chocolate malt than the traditional cookies & cream flavor we are all used to. However, it was still tasty, and it sure was chocolatey! Coated in a layer of smooth chocolate, there was a crispy texture in the middle. The chocolate coating is a bit “crumby”, and it falls off as you bite it. It was sort of a cross between a chocolate bar and a luna bar with the texture, consistency and the taste.

Chocolate Crunch– this bar tasted pretty much like the Cookies & Cream flavor, but it was a bit sweeter. I liked this one better than the Cookies & Cream flavor, it had a deeper chocolate taste.

Canilla Vanilla– Yum! Now i like this one!! It was also coated with chocolate, but a white chocolate. I think it had a slight macadamia flavoring. If you’ve ever had the white chocolate macadamia bar by Luna, it tastes somewhat similar. This was the sweetest of the three bars, but not overpoweringly sweet. There also was a slight hint of a cinnamon taste.

Overall, i think these would be best when you need a protein boost or a good choice after a workout. To me, the taste was like a “healthy candy bar”. You can get your chocolate/sweet fix without un-doing your diet, and also get some vitamins and minerals as well. My only complaint is that they lack fiber, something I like to have in a bar. I will probably buy the Can-illa Vanilla flavor again, because i like the protein. I had one of these bars when my tummy was GRUMBLING, and it satisfied me nicely.

1 package (2 bars) is 170 calories, 5-6 grams of fat, 20-21 carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, and 9 grams of protein.
