How many fruits and veggies do you REALLY eat daily? No, I don’t personally count the 3 pieces of freeze-dried fruit in your cereal or the bag of potato chips you had as a fruit or vegetable serving, although some may. I try to eat as many fruits and veggies as possible, but understandable, sometimes it is hard to reach that quota of a daily reccomended serving.

SO, I was excited to try Fruitmania Fruit Drink, a free sample I got that also came with Smart-meal snx PROGEL, which I shall review at a later date. According to the box, this is a drink that has “12 fruits and vegetables and essential nutrients”, “No artificial sweeteners, no artificial coloring, no preservatives” is dairy, fat, lactose, gluten, wheat, yeast and cholesterol free AND has “no aspartame”. To top it all off…the letters on the box say “over 2 lbs. of fruits and vegetables packed into every bottle!”

Hmm. I was skeptical. I’m always skeptical. Even if there are this many fruits/veggies, how would it taste?! Bitter? Overly sweet? Like spinach juice? Here’s a closeup of what it looked like.

Not exactly appealing…however, it smelled kind of like a cherry/strawberry fruit-roll up I used to eat as a kid. But how did it taste?

Not bad, but not exactly fantastic. It had a strawberry-cherry flavor, and was sweet yet toned down at the same time. It left an after-taste in my mouth, kind of like when I drink an artificially flavored/sweetened fruit drink or something like that, although it stated it had no fake sweeteners on the box. It had the texture of an almond milk, where it was smooth but had a little bit more thickness than water.

It was only a 2.5 oz bottle, so I think if I had this again I don’t need to sip on it slowly, and can just drink it rather quickly, or maybe add it to a smoothie. It didn’t taste bad at all, but didn’t taste as “natural” as I thought it would.

After reading over the ingredients, I saw it had Stevia in it, which I would account for that less-than-just-fruit-juice flavor. However, it really isn’t bad, and if given in the future I would drink it as a pre or post gym pick-me-up. I also read the fine print- which said “1 Bottle is infused with: 12 concentrated fruits and vegetables and 5 grams of prebiotic fiber”. So, the mini bottle is basically just fruit/veggie concentrates, with a few other ingredients, which doesn’t give me the same satisfaction as actually eating the whole fruit or veggie, but still isn’t bad.

So overall, 3 stars.

How many fruits and/or veggies do you eat every day? I’d say most days I get 2 servings of fruit, 4-6 servings of veggies. Not bad if I don’t say so myself!

Although I have already done a review of Zevia soda in the past, I’m doing another. And guess what? A GIVEAWAY TOO!

For those of you who never heard of Zevia, here’s some info about it from the website “ZEVIA is the first all natural zero calorie soda. With only pure ingredients, ZEVIA contains none of the chemically processed artificial sugar substitutes, artificial flavors or artificial colors found in other diet sodas. ZEVIA is all-natural, has zero calories, zero net carbs, zero fat, and little or no sodium (depending on flavor).”

Zevia was even mentioned in the September issue of O magazine!

Well? Let’s get started! =)

I opened up the Ginger Root Beer first. Ah, a crisp, good flavor. Can definitely taste some of the ginger. It wasn’t super sweet, but rather just the right amount. I also loved that there was no caffeine in this flavor! 4 stars

Next up, Lemon Lime Twist. So refreshing! Also, not too sweet, but just the right amount. Also a really good blend of both lemon and lime flavors. Perfect to drink on a sunny, warm day! 4 stars

Next, Cola. This one was a bit sweeter, and not as carbonated/bubbly as the other flavors. It had sort of a cola syrupy taste to it, but was enjoyable. Went perfect with my dinner of pizza & steamed broccoli! 4 stars

Moving on to Orange- This one had a delicate yet tasty flavor. It was mildly sweet, with a tiny bit of zest to it. Yummy orange flavor! 4 stars

Next up, Dr. Zevia. Yum! I really liked this one. A good about of sweetness, and light cherry flavor. There was just a little bit of a zing or spice to it as well. It wasn’t super carbonated/bubbly, which I liked, and was quite tasty. This one gets 4 1/2 stars

Black Cherry- my other favorite, this one had a good amount of sweetness, was bubbly, and I could certainly detect a black cherry flavor. Refreshing! 4 1/2 stars

Now, THE GIVEAWAY!!

1 winner (United States Only) will win ONE SIX PACK of assorted flavors of Zevia!

Ah, two of my favorite things, finally combined. Penny’s Low Fat Desserts, and Banana muffins. I’ve had some of Penny’s lovely desserts before- like her delicious muffin tops, and her chocolate truffle and cinnamon toffee cookies. So how on EARTH could I turn Penny down when she offered me to try her new Banana Bran muffin? (Obviously I couldn’t- then you wouldn’t be reading a review! 😉 )

Penny sent me a few of her new, all natural, no sugar added Banana Bran Muffins. Each muffin is only 100 calories and is sweetened naturally with rebiana, or stevia. They are a pretty decent size, 3 ounces, not as big as those super-muffins you get at the deli, but a good sized muffin. I popped it in the microwave for 10 seconds or so since I put them in my fridge( and I reccommend you heat it up for a few seconds when you try it!!), and sat down to review. The smell was awesome-I just knew I was going to like these. I. LOVE. BANANA! 😀

I took a bite, and was actually quite pleased. It’s “fudgy” in texture-soft, and fluffy. It’s actually sweeter than I imagined it to be, but still good. The banana flavor was good too- no fake banana flavor, but a real ” there are actual bananas, not just banana extracts in this muffin” flavor.  It also had a buttery flavor as well. In other words, this muffin was GOOD! I liked that you could see bits of banana actually thoughout the muffin. Yum!

One tip I have- spread peanut butter on this muffin! (taking into consideration you are not allergic to peanut butter. Please, do not do that then!!) Oh my, it was SO amazing with a smear of all natural peanut butter. I’m just mad that I didn’t think of spreading peanut butter on it until I was halfway done with the muffin (woops! ).

Overall, this muffin gets 4 1/2 stars. Good job, yet again, Penny! This muffin also has only three grams of sugar and six grams of fiber. Can’t be beat in my books 😉

1 muffin is 90 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 28 carbohydrates, 5 grams of fiber, 10 sugar alcohols, 2 sugars and 4 grams of protein.

water, wheat flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), erythritol, pasteurized egg whites, wheat bran, bananas, milk, chicory root, cellulose, natural flavors, leavening (sodium acid pyrophosphate, cornstarch, sodium bicarbonate), rice syrup solids, salt, palm oil, soy lecithin, xanthan gum, sodium alginate, guar gum, rebiana, soybean lecithin.

Amazing Grass Kidz Super Food Wild Berry

Author: Healthnuttxo

Keeping up with my berry and fruity theme this week, I thought it would be appropriate to review a product sent to me by Amazing Grass, the Kidz Super Food Wild Berry .

One serving of this mix combines 32 fruits and vegetables that provides that antioxidant level of THREE servings of fruits & veggies. You simply mix it in water, juice, or a smoothie (it also comes in a chocolate flavor, that you can mix with milk!)

Seeing as the amazing nutrition punch this product packs, I decided to try it on a day I was feeling sluggish and just blah. I’m not one who likes to take medications , so I prefer more natural ways of helping or healing my body. I decided to just mix it with water, since I wasn’t home at the time and didn’t have access to juice (or a smoothie, for that matter). I put it in my water bottle and gave it a shake. It was green and dusty on top, and then the rest of the water was purple. I had a very curious glances my way like, “what on earth is she drinking?!?!” I’m not one to judge on color, so I took a sip. It was very, very mildly sweet- just a hint of berry flavor. It didn’t mix together perfectly, as it was still a bit piecy in the water.

I definitely reccommend using it in juice or a smoothie instead of just water, or maybe adding some stevia/sweetener if you want to use it in water. It wasn’t bad, though, taken for what it was. It’s an excellent way to boost your nutrition and fit in some powerful antioxidants. With water, I give it 3 1/2 stars based on taste, 5 for nutrition, for a total of 4 stars. It did make me feel SOO much better after- Really! My headache was gone, and I had more energy throughout the day. I think I might buy some in the future and try it in a smoothie or juice- if I do, I’ll let you know how it is!

1 packet (6 grams) is 21 calories, 0 grams of fat, 4 carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, and 1 gram of protein.

you GOTTA love the ingredients—> GREENS-organic wheat grass, organic barley grass, organic alfalfa, asparagus, lima beans, green peas, kale, kiwi, organic spinach, organic broccoli, brussel sprouts, green beans, zucchini ORANGES/YELLOWS-apricots, organic carrots, mangos, pineapple, sweet potatoes, tangerines, yellow squash REDS-organic yumberry, pomegranates, raspberries, guavas, cranberries, red cabbage, cherries, tomatoes, BLUES/PURPLES-beets, plums, purple grapes, blueberries, organic evaporated cane juice, organic inulin, organic oat fiber, natural flavors, organic guar gum, stevia, probiotics (L. Dr. Zevia all Natural Soda

Author: healthnuttxo

* New Flavor Alert * !

You know me- Always on the hunt for the newest flavors, snacks & goodies for me to eat and for you to read about. Which is why I contacted Zevia, the all natural soda sweetened with Stevia, and asked them to try their new flavor, Dr. Zevia. They generously sent me their new flavor to try, and I was super excited. I have already reviewed (and loved!) their other flavors, you can check that out here.

Now, onto the taste.
Honestly- I did remind me A LOT of Dr. Pepper. This was good in my eyes, because growing up, I always liked Dr. Pepper, but it wasn’t a very popular flavor. It was always a treat when I got one, and I especially always remember drinking it while going out to eat with my mom at our local pizza place. So, this soda brought me back some memories too! 🙂

The flavor is a mixture of cola and cherry flavors, with a slight spice aftertaste. It sort of reminded me of clove or nutmeg, one of those spices you make pumpkin pie with. It isn’t very sweet, but more of a “savory” flavor. Like I said- it would go perfect with a piping hot slice of cheesy pizza or Amy’s Non Dairy Pot Pie (we love you, Amy’s!).

This one, by itself, also gets 4 stars. How awesome is a soda with zero calories, zero sugar, no artificial flavors/preservatives and has awesome taste? 😀  Zevia’s Dr. Zevia, Black Cherry, and Root Beer flavors are my favorite of Zevia‘s line. Which ones do you guys like?

1 soda is 0 calories, 0 fat, 15 carbohydrates (from Erythritol), 0 sugars, 0 fiber and 0 protein.

*According to Zevia, “Erythritol carbs have no calories or effect on blood sugar”.*

Triple Filtered Carbonated Water, Erythritol, Caramel Color, Tartaric Acid, Stevia Leaf, Fumaric Acid, 33mg Caffeine (from coffee), Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Citrus Oils, Nutmeg Oil, Clove Leaf Oil, Botanical Oil, Cassia Oil, Cherry Essence.

Zevia All Natural Soda and..GIVEAWAY!!

Author: healthnuttxo

ZZEVIA

I feel for you soda lovers. It’s either you go “all natural” and get the stuff loaded with sugar, or you go “sugar free” and you ingest a whole slew of chemicals, dyes and artificial sweetners. What’s a girl (or guy) to do when she craves the fizzy stuff?
Well, my friends, I HAVE THE ANSWER!
Zevia is an ALL NATURAL, ZERO CALORIE, soda! It has no artificial colors, dyes or sweeteners, and has no calories, carbohydrates and little or no sodium. It comes in 6 great flavors, Natural Cola, Natural Orange, Natural Twist, Natural Root Beer, Natural Black Cherry, and Natural Ginger Ale. It’s sweetened naturally, with Stevia, which is a natural herb found in South and Central America, and Erythritol, a natural sugar alcohol found in fruits and veggies. I get true peace of mind drinking this-it’s natural and TASTY!

So how do these babies taste? Welll…

Natural Cola– this one i legit thought was Diet Coke. It tastes pretty much exactly the same, maybe a wee bit more carbonated/fizzy than Diet Coke is (4 stars)

Natural Orange- This one had a mild orangey flavor. Rather than a strong orange flavor, it reminded me of a creamsicle. (4 stars)

Natural Twist– this one had a “cool lime” flavor. It tasted citrusy, and then had a cooling effect after drinking it. It was very refreshing! (4 stars)

Natural Root Beer-yummy! Once again, it could totally pass as A&W root beer! It was a little bit sweeter than the root beer I’m used to (or used to drink, rather), but i had my mom try it, and she enjoyed it. She is also Root Beer QUEEN, mind you. 🙂 (4 stars)

Natural Black Cherry- my favorite flavor by far. It had a deep black cherry flavor. It was so gooooooood! It was very bubbly and fizzy, so I drank half and put it in the fridge for an hour to let some of the caarbonation settle, but I like my soda mildy flat 🙂   (5 stars)

Natural Ginger Ale- tastes just like good ol’ natural ginger ale. It had a crisp taste, and i could taste just a hint of real ginger. I know Ginger Ale is commonly used when you have stomachaches- and after I drank this soda it actually did help my stomachache! (4 stars)

Overall, these ROCK. I’m giving them 4 stars as a whole. I’m going to be upset when I run out. There perfect compliment to a lunch or when you want some flavor and some jazz without all the sugar and the calories!

Each can has 0 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbohydrates, 0 fiber and 0 protein.
The ingredients in each can only consist of Stevia, Erythritol, Natural Caramel, Natural Tartaric Acid, Citric Acid, Kola Nut Extract,Natural Caffeine,Annatto, and Ginger Root.

True Lemon Naturally Sweet Lemonade Mix

Author: healthnuttxo

lem2

Water. So good for us. Sometimes it just hits the spot and is refreshing as it, but sometimes we need to step it up a notch. So…

Finally! A healthy alternative to Crystal Light without artificial sweetners, colors or preservatives! True Lemon Naturally Sweet lemonade mix packets takes the cake! It sweetened naturally with Truvia, which is sweetner with natural Stevia, and evaporated cane juice. Like Crystal Light On-the-Go packets, it has 5 calories per serving (2 servings in a stick). It also has 25% daily vitamin C needs.

As for the taste- delicious! You can make it as light or strong as you want, but it has a good, strong lemony taste. It tastes genuine or real, which is, in my opinion, how lemonade SHOULD taste. It tastes like you actually squeezed some lemons, added water and some sweetner and viola! Lemonade. I hope True Lemon comes out with more flavors like lime or orange, because they also make crystalized lemon, lime and orange packets for seasoning/teas/ etc.

Not many ingredients in here-that’s a good thing!

Citric Acid, Evaporated Cane Juice, Lemon Oil, Lemon Juice, Rebiana (Truvia), Guar Gum, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Natural Color.
