It’s officially cold and flu season! (Boo!!!) And while there are vaccinations to help prevent the flu, there are no vaccinations against Rhinovirus aka the cold. However, you can take some over the counter supplements that may help support a healthy immune system. Vitamin Friends has a immune system support probiotic gummy that has Vitamin C, Zinc, Echinacea and a probiotic…and it’s vegan too!

These gummies are vegan, glute, free, egg free, crustacean free, fish free, peanut free, nut free, milk free and soy free…aka allergen free! They are made in California, USA, and are also Kosher. But how does it taste? Can I get my child to eat this?

I was sent an orange flavor to try…I do not think you will have any worries getting your child to eat these because they are yummy! A tangy, slightly tart orange-clementine line flavor. The gummies are soft and easy to chew, and covered with a sugar-like coating.

I’ve been eating them for about a month (2 per day), and have had no issues with going to the bathroom and *so far*, I have not gotten sick (KNOCK ON WOOD!) I do believe that supplementation can play a role in supporting a healthy immune system, especially if you are deficient in vitamins. I like that there is 100% of Vitamin C and Zinc per serving, not “1000% percent!” like some supplements may advertise. More is not necessarily better when it comes to vitamins and minerals, and even thought Vitamin C is water soluble, we shouldn’t be taking it in excess. Vitamins should also never take place of a healthy, well balanced diet, filled with fruits and vegetables and other anti-oxidants. However, I do think this is a good addition to your child’s diet (or yours!), especially during cold and flu season.

They are 15 calories per serving with 4 grams of sugar.

DISCLAIMER: I received these gummies to try for free from the company. This is an unbiased review. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor/ PA or NP before starting any supplements.

Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Bears

Author: Healthnuttxo

I’m in a fruit-snack mood today! 🙂

Yummy Earth sent me some products to try, including their Organic Gummy Bears. According to the package, these come in Pomegranate Pucker, Strawberry Smash and Sour Apple Tart. They are also “Made with Real  Fruit Juice” and have “100% Vitamin C”, as well as being “Gluten Free” and “Fat-Free”. SOunds like a good fruit snack to me!!

Each gummy bear is rather small, and they come in three colors, a red, yellowish color, and a pale orangey color. They were sweet, but rather chewy, almost dense in texture. The red gummy was the tartest, and had a berryish flavor. I would assume that that one was Pomegranate Pucker. The yellowish colored gummy bear almost had a citrusy flavor, and was a bit sour, so I would assume that it was the Sour Apple Tart. Lastly, the orangy colored gummy bear had a rather mild flavor, and was slightly sweet, so I’m guessing that was the Strawberry Smash.

Overall, these were good. I love that they are organic, and in my opinion, made with pretty good ingredients! I do wish they had a bit of a softer texture and weren’t as chewy, but overall, pretty good. I give them 3 1/2 stars! : )

*Do you like gummy bears? What’s your favorite color/flavor? If you’d like to answer, please leave a comment below!*

25 grams(about 10 bears) is 88 calories, 0 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbohydrates, 10 grams of sugar, and 0 grams of protein.

I have to say, I’m a fan of fruit snacks. Fruit leathers, gummie fruit snacks, etc., I just love things that are sweet and fruity!

Something new for me to try, Ian’s Natural Foods sent me the FruitaBits Crispy Fruit Snacks in Sour Apple & Cherry, and Berry Cherry flavors. At first I thought huh? Crispy Fruit Snacks? But then, I was actually quite surprised and pleased!

Each package contains tiny little balls that are airy, and well, like the package says, “crispy”! Also according to the package, these are “made with real fruit!”, are “Nut Free!” and are an  “excellent source of vitamin C!”. I was glad that they were made with real fruit, including they were supposed to be fruit snacks. =)

I opened the Berry Cherry version first. WHEW! This one had a very strong sour cherry smell to it. The balls or pieces were almost a purpleish red in color. I tasted some, and I actually kind of liked it. They were crunchy and sweet, and have both strawberry and berry flavors. Yummy!

Next up, the Sour Apple & Cherry flavor. These had red and yellow pieces, which actually surprised me, I was sort of expecting green for an apple flavor. Anyway- these had a nice blend of sour flavor and sweet flavor. Neither too overpowering, but actually quite tasty.

Overall, I give these 4 stars. While they are tasty, they don’t have any fiber and have 1 gram of saturated fat for a .75oz package. But, I do like that they are crunchy and sweet, and they sort of remind me of a fruity-type cereal.

.75 oz is 85 calories, 1 gram of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 9 grams of sugar, and 1 gram of protein.

Surf Sweets Gummy Swirls candy

Author: Healthnuttxo

I have such a sweet tooth (seeing as this is my SECOND candy review/post tonight! Make sure you scroll down to see the second review!)  I’m so happy that companies like Surf Sweets make healthier alternatives to traditional candies to help satisfy my sweet tooth but also ease my mind!

Surf Sweets makes organic and natural jelly beans and gummy candies. According to the website, “At Surf Sweets, we love candy! We’re passionate about making the world’s most flavorful candy using all natural pure ingredients. We’re also a company that cares about the health and well-being of our customers and our planet. These values have inspired us to launch a complete line of all-natural, organic gummy candy and jelly beans.”

An added bonus- their products are made without corn syrup, trans fats, artificial ingredients, and preservatives. They also provide 100% of your daily vitamin C needs per serving. How’s that for a candy??

The company sent me a few of their products to try, including the Gummy Swirls. These are vegetarian/vegan, and not only provide 100% daily needs of Vitamin C, but calcium as well. (I can see it now. Kids everywhere saying, “No thanks, Mom. I don’t need to drink my milk today. I can have these candies instead!!” 🙂 )

Each cute drop has colored swirls of orange and pink, and is coated with delicious “sugar” sprinkles. I put sugar in quotes because they are sweetened with evaporated cane juice, tapioca syrup and fruit juice concentrate, so I’m not sure what factor gives it the “sugary” coating. They are sweet, indeed, but not WOAH that’s SWEET!. They are sweet, in a good way. And addictive too! They are nice and chewy on the inside, and stick to your teeth like a good gummy candy should 😉

Overall, I give these 4 1/2 stars. They are really tasty! I like to suck on them, one by one, and savor each piece (plus that prevents me from eating the whole bag in one sitting!). If you like gummy candy, give these a try! They will satisfy a sweet tooth, and provide some health benefits as well. Take the advice from the bag and “Catch a Wave of Flavor”.- Cute!!

16 pieces is 120 calories, 0 grams of fat, 29 carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 22 grams of sugar and 0 grams of protein.

Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Tricalcium Phosphate, Organic Grape Juice Concentrate, Pectin, Citric Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Color Added (including Black Carrot Juice Concentrate, Turmeric, Annatto), Natural Flavors.

O.N.E. Drinks

Author: healthnuttxo

Time for my very first BEVERAGE review! Woo! I was lucky enough to receive a few samples from O.N.E. which stands for One Natural Experience. O.N.E. has a variety of drinks that are all natural and bursting with health benefits. They all come in cute little boxes, and mine has little straws attached to them as well. I love it when companies do that-so conveinent!! I decided to try the Coconut water with a splash of pineapple,  and the Water of Life varieties.
Let’s begin and start sipping away!
Coconut Water with Splash of Pineapple-  This was very REFRESHING. It has just the slightest hint of pineapple to jazz up the coconut water. It sort of had a thicker consistency than regular water, but didn’t really taste like coconut. Normally the coconut I would expect is like from coconut scented sprays or coconut cookies, but it was a much more mellow flavor with the pineapple to jazz it up. Refreshing!

Water a Gift of Life- this water is from a specific Natural Spring, and is totally purified and clean. To be honest, it tasted like bottle water to me. That’s a good thing though, very fresh, clean and crisp.

I reccommend these waters, as they are tasty and certainly refreshing. 4 stars!
