Another CSN review! :)

Author: Healthnuttxo

Yes, we have another exiciting CSN stores review coming up ! Why do I like these reviews? Well, I can pick almost anything I want to do a review on (like the yogurt maker, and the lunch box I just did a review on!) They even have things like bathroom shelving to choose from!

Please keep checking back, to see what I picked to review! :)

I really happen to enjoy tea- both warm and iced. Nothing like a cup of warm tea on a cold, wintry day or some iced tea to go with a meal. I got a coupon to try one of the Tazo Zero Calorie Naturally Sweetened Iced Teas, and the only one available at my grocery store was the Refresh flavor, so I decided to give that one a try.

This tea has no caffeine, and according to the bottle is an “herbal infusion with peppermint and spearmint”. I love when drinks have natural sweeteners AND aren’t loaded with refined, white sugar, so I was happy to give this a try.

Unfortunately, I really did not enjoy it. The bottle claims to be “naturally sweetened” but I did not taste even a hint of sweetness. It reminded me of a watered down black tea with a minty aftertaste. The smell was very minty and rather strong, so I was sort of expecting a stronger mint flavor, but it really wasn’t as strong as I had thought it would be. I just really did not enjoy it.

Overall, this gets 1 star from me. While I love that it’s sweetened naturally, and I guess I can see why perhaps it’s called “refresh”, like a mint can refresh someone after eating a meal, it’s just not my cup of tea (no pun intended ;P ). Perhaps the other flavors of Passion or Zen might be tastier.

Mmmm carbs. How could anyone not like carbohydrate-rich foods? I know I may not be a “pasta person”, but I do love bread!

For today’s review, it’s the Fig, Fennel & Flax Manna Bread from Manna Organics. I have tried a few of them in the past, and thought they were okay, but I’m always up for trying new flavors. I was provided this loaf from Manna Organics to try for free as well.

I opened up the package and saw a loaf covered in seeds- pumpkin, sunflower, poppy seeds and sesame seeds. Oddly enough, I didn’t see any flax seeds or figs (go figure). Anyway- I cut off a slice and divided it into 3. I was going to try it 3 ways..

Cold and plain- eaten this way, the bread was rather dry, bland, and had a slight poppyseed and rye bread flavor.

Then, I warmed up a piece in the microwave- this way was a bit better, as some of the fig flavor came out and made it lightly sweet, and I tasted more of the seeds as well.

The best method of the 3, was warming it up and putting a little bit of apple butter on it. Delicious! It was chewy and soft, and complemented the sweetness of the apple butter very well.

Overall, I’m giving it 3 stars. It was really only good with the apple butter on it, and I wish it had a stronger fig flavor. One thing I did like was that I didn’t detect much flaxseed flavor, a flavor I really don’t like as I  think it can taste fishy sometimes. But this bread has a lot to offer. It’s organic, and according to the package, is “Free from Added Sweeteners, Salt, Yeast or Oil“. A versatile bread!

1 2 oz. slice is 120 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 26 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fiber, 8 grams of sugar, 4 grams of protein.

What’s your favorite type of bread? I’m a fan of banana bread :)

sorry, it appeared as if my box got a little mushed in the freezer!

Ok, I’ll admit it. Even if it’s snowing and 4 degrees outside, I’ll be up to eating frozen yogurt. The weather doesn’t phase me when we’re talking about delicious frozen treats!

So to add to my random “I think I’ll have something frozen even though it’s freezing outside” list of foods, how about the Organic Fudge Bars from Julie’s Organic Ice Cream?

I picked up this box of 4 fudge bars at the grocery store,  I believe it was Whole Foods, with a coupon Julie’s Organic Ice Cream sent me for a free product. Why did I pick fudge bars? Honestly, I don’t know. It was a spur of the moment sorta thing.

Each bar is only 100 calories, is organic, and is decently sized (59 grams). I opened up my bar and took a bite. It was soft, with a dark chocolate slightly bitter taste, was mildly sweet, and pretty good. Honestly, if you have ever had a fudge bar before, this pretty much tastes like how they all taste. No funky aftertastes, not too sweet, not too chocolatey, just a light tasting, fudge bar.

Overall, I give it 3 1/2 stars. I like that it was organic and portioned for only 100 calories. But I wasn’t thrilled with the product, and I would have actually liked it to be a bit sweeter. However, if you are a fan of fudge bars, I don’t think that this will disappoint :)

SO SORRY for the posting hiatus… I’ve been a busy gal! But I’m back with another yummy review for you guys to read! :)

Today’s review… Earth’s Best Yummy Tummy Instant Oatmeal in Maple & Brown Sugar flavor. Now that the weather is inevitably getting colder (I’m so not happy about the cold weather!), what better than to have a  nice warm bowl of oatmeal?

Aside from the catchy orange box, this oatmeal had Elmo from Sesame Street on it. I am a kid at heart, and well, how could I not like a product with Elmo on the box? According to the website, here’s some quick facts about this oatmeal.

  • Quick, easy and nutritious way to serve up a hot breakfast to start the day
  • 30 grams of whole grain per serving
  • Fortified with 8 essential vimins and minerals
  • Excellent source of iron, zinc and vitamin B
  • Made with whole grain oats
  • 3 grams of fiber per serving
  • USDA organic: no growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids or potentially harmful pesticides or herbicides
  • No artificial flavors, colors, preservatives “

Sounds good to me! :)

I couldn’t wait to try it- one of my favorite flavors for oatmeal was brown sugar and I also adore the flavor of maple! So I made the oatmeal, poured in the hot water, let it cool and gave it a taste. The verdict? Not bad!

It was a creamy oatmeal, that gave a decent sized bowl. I loved the fact that there was added vitamins and minerals, and four grams of fiber per serving. However, I thought it really wasn’t that sweet. There was eleven grams of sugar, so I was imagining it to be at least a bit sweeter than it was. However, I’m sure the mild sweetness could easily be enhanced by an extra sprinkle of brown sugar or some stevia, or even some fruit. Otherwise, I enjoyed the oatmeal, and I’m giving it 4 stars.

1 packet is 160 calories, 2.5 grams of fat,32 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fiber, 11 grams of sugar and 4 grams of protien.

Question- who’s your favorite Sesame Street character? Mine was always Cookie Monster :)
