Bread with benefits??? What???
Queen St. Bakery offers a variety of nutrient dense, gluten free breads. The breads are also non GMO, and certified vegan.
The story is quite adorable – Per the website, the founder, Gio, created this bread in honor of his Mom who had to eat gluten free products, but struggled with findings good products (he’s not wrong…there’s PLENTY of gluten free stuff on the market that has crumbled or just tasted terrible that I’ve tried!).
So the company was nice enough to send me a few products to try – the Everything Bagel, the supergrain sourdough bread, and the English Muffins.
First up…the Everything Bagel

This one is high in fiber with protein from fava bean & sorghum (a whopping 10 grams per bagel!)- No white flour. No processed sugar.
These became soft when toasted and paired well with egg and cheese. I found them a bit bland for an everything bagel- I wish there was a bit more onion or salt flavor however, that leaves It open for versatility. The product itself is a bit dense so would recommend toasting It.
Next, the English Muffin. These are high in fiber with protein from white bean & sorghum – No white flour nor processed sugar.

Each one was about 40ish carbs also I ended up having half at a time. I am Type 1 Diabetic and try to keep my carbs lower to avoid hyperglycemia.
I dislike they are not pre sliced but it’s not that hard to do. They become soft when toasted. They were pretty dense but relatively filling with an egg as above. I do agree with the steady energy – sugar levels did not spike much and I was pretty full until lunch so I consider that a win! The flavor itself is on the blander side but that makes It versatile.
Lastly, The bread – this is high in fiber with protein from white bean & chia – No white flour. No processed sugar, with naturally fermented sorghum sourdough . These have a whopping 12 grams of fiber per two slices.
I decided to make a grilled cheese with this one

The bread is very small and again a bit bland, but versatile.
Overall, I do like the concept of these breads and the company’s mission. The products are a little small and carb heavy for the portions for my liking but I will say – typically high fiber products really bloat me and I did not experience that which I think is a win. I do think these are great for dishes you plan on toasting or grilling but they are a little dense and chewy if not (like I would not have the bagel with cream cheese or the bread with a PB&J. They provided sustained energy and no upset stomach and have solid ingredients.
