Ever had a Luna Bar? I like these bars because they are tasty, satisfying and just perfect for me after a workout, or as an on-the-go snack. I love that they are all natural, and come in a bunch of flavors.

The people over at Luna sent me two more flavors to try, the Blueberry Bliss and Vanilla Almond bars. When the first arrived, they were a little melted (it was hot out!) so I put them in the fridge. As a result, a WHOLE new way for me to enjoy them! They are actually quite good cold from the fridge!

Each bar is actually decently sized, and pretty dense and chewy. There is a layer of sweet icing on the bottom as well.

Blueberry Bliss- one word can describe this blueberry bar, and Luna definitely picked the right one when it comes to naming it. “BLISS!” It’s so true! This bar was absolutely delicious, even better than I had expected it to be. There was a blueberry fruity topping, with pieces of oats and a little more of the icing on top. I love the blueberry flavor. It reminded me of the blueberry flavor that I used to eat in toaster pastries. It has just the perfect amount of sweetness. Like dessert in a bar. And 70% organic. YUM! 4 1/2 stars

Vanilla Almond- also a very good bar. Actually, I thought I was eating the White Chocolate Macadamia bar (one of my favorite flavors) that Luna also makes, the taste is VERY similar! It has a buttery-sweet flavor to it that I love, and has a rich, yet satisfying flavor. Really enjoyable. I also liked the little specks/flakes of almonds on top of the bar. How could I not enjoy this bar? 4 1/2 stars

Overall, I enjoyed these! I do wish the fiber content was a little higher and the saturated fat content was a little lower, but overall, not bad!! I really think these are perfect for an after lunch-not-quite-dinner snack, and they certainly satisfy my sweet tooth in a much healthier way.

Question: What’s your favorite Luna Bar flavor? if you’d like to answer, please leave a comment! 🙂

Last few days to enter the CHOCOLATEY giveaway! 🙂

I love YOGURT! I try to eat at least one every day, whether it’s for breakfast, snack, or even dessert! A yogurt I have seen in the stores by me is Fage, which according to the website, makes “Ridiculously thick yogurt”. They have a few different types of products, including the TOTAL 2% Peach, Strawberry and Cherry yogurt.

The people over at Fage sent me some coupons to try out some of their products, and I was most excited about the TOTAL 2% yogurt with the fruit compartments. I decided to try the Cherry, Peach, and Strawberry flavors that were offered. The TOTAL 2% yogurts have 2 compartments, one with yogurt, and the other, smaller, compartment has an almost jelly-like flavor. It’s sort of like a fruit on the bottom yogurt, but the fruit is actually separated on the side. I thought they looked cool and interesting, so I figured why not give these a try?

The yogurt part on all three flavors was pretty much the same. A plain, tart but not too tart yogurt, that really was quite thick. It was creamy too, and sort of reminded me of sour cream. I also think it had a bit of actual cream taste, which was really delicious. I enjoyed this part plain, but also with the peach, cherry and strawberry sides.

Peach- ahh, so refreshing. This jelly-like side had small and soft bits of peaches, all together in a sweet syrup. Really good! 4 1/2 stars

Strawberry- this one was also delicious. A sweet strawberry flavor, not as sweet as strawberry jam, but still good. Smooth and yummy, it had an authentic strawberry flavor that did not disappoint. 4 1/2 stars

Cherry- oh, my, this one was the BEST! I thought Strawberry was going to be my favorite, but Cherry really made my day! Sweet in the best way possible, it went just PERFECT with the yogurt. I actually found myself licking the compartment where the fruit was clean. SOOO good! 5 stars

Overall,  a really great product. I certainly will buy more in the future. I think it’s perfect as a snack with some fruit, or even for breakfast with some cereal or oatmeal! The creamy yogurt and sweet fruit compartments both equally great. I just wish the fruit section was bigger! 😉

*Last few days to enter the “Organic Chocolate Indulgence” Giveaway!* 🙂

After a workout, there’s a few things I crave. Protein, to fuel my hard worked muscles, something sweet, to reward myself for a hard workout, and something healthy, to treat the body good and give it what it deserves. So, what better way to indulge after the gym than with an all natural Amazing Grass GREEN SuperFood Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar? 🙂

Amazing Grass sent me some products to try, and one of them was the GREEN SuperFood Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar. Combining two of my favorite things, chocolate and peanut butter, I certainly was excited for this.

This bar is all natural, gluten free, and according to the wrapper, made with organic peanuts, dates and green foods. According to the website, “We’ve taken our alkalizing Green SuperFood, with antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables and combined them in a bar that will satisfy your hunger and deliver nutrients to your body the way Mother Nature intended…unprocessed, organic and delicious.”

So I opened up the bar, and certainly was happy. It looked like a chocolate covered bar, and pretty thick too. I took a bite, and was actually quite surprised. The chocolate on top was smooth and sweet, I actually thought it was milk chocolate but the ingredients say it’s a “Dark Chocolate Coating”. The inside of the bar is, well, GREEN! They weren’t kidding about the “GREEN” part! I didn’t really taste too much peanut butter flavor, more like just a hint of peanut, but what I really tasted was a fruity flavor. It almost reminded me of chocolate covered raisins- but in bar form. It was tasty, though! Definitely a dense and chewy bar, it provided a sweet and slightly salty taste that certainly satisfied.

Overall, I give it 3 1/2 stars. It certainly was satisfying, and I liked the chocolatey coating on the outside. I really liked that it was made with organic ingredients, and contained the Green SuperFoods! However, I do wish it had more of a peanut butter taste, and slightly less fat per bar. Otherwise, I think it’s a great treat after the gym, or anytime!

Hey, if you want to buy these or other Amazing Grass products for yourself, you can click on the picture below!! 🙂

1 bar is 270 calories, 14 grams of fat, 28 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 19 grams of sugar, and 12 grams of protein.

Applesauce is definitely one of my favorite things to eat. By itself, drizzled on waffles/pancakes, or even as a dip, I find it really versatile and really tasty! But what’s a girl to do when she wants applesauce, but doesn’t have time to eat it, or doesn’t have a spoon? Well….

GoGo SqueeZ makes “applesauce on the go” ! These are packets of applesauce that have an almost straw0like place to sip out the applesauce on the top. What’s also good, is that the top can be taken off and put back on again, literally making it easy to take a sip and then save some for later!

These all natural applesauces come in several flavors, and the company sent me the AppleApple and AppleBanana to try. I was mostly excited for the AppleBanana- combining two of my favorite things- apples AND bananas!  According to the website, these are preservative free, dairy free, gluten free, and one packet is equivalent to one fruit serving. They also contain no added sugar! (Sounds like my kind of applesauce!)

AppleApple- wow. this was actually really tasty! It kind of reminded me of an applesauce smoothie! It was very smooth in consistency, no chunks or bumps, and the perfect amount of sweetness. I had this one with my dinner, and was the perfect compliment!

AppleBanana-similar to the AppleApple flavor, but with a hint of banana. The banana part wasn’t too sweet, neither was the apple, but rather just right. Really tasty, I really enjoyed this one just as is!

I really liked the cute cartoons on the outside of the packets. I also think these would be a good replacement for those gels that I often see in stores meant for runners, bikers, etc. I think if I ever go on a long run, I can hold on to one of these for a sip of all natural energy! 🙂 I also like the conveinence of the cap, and I actually did use these at home, too. I just squeezed out the amount that I wanted onto my plate (and ended up sipping up the rest!). I would like to try the other flavors as well (especially AppleCinnamon!), as they look tasty, too. Overall, these get 5 stars 😀

AppleApple- 1 pouch (90 grams) is 60 calories, .5 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 13 grams of sugar and 0 grams of protein.

Apple, Apple Juice Concentrate.

AppleBanana-1 pouch (90 grams) is 60 calories, .4 grams of fat, 13.5 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 11 grams of sugar and 0 grams of protein.

Barbara’s Bakery Beanie Puffin WINNER

Author: Healthnuttxo

Hey guys!

The winner of the Barbara’s Bakery Beanie Puffin is, (chosen from www.random.org) …

KAILEY! Congrats girl! Please e-mail me your information so you can have a cute Beanie Puffin of your own!

P.S. There will be ANOTHER giveaway posted this afternoon. More information posted later! 🙂

Cookie time! Cookie time! 🙂

Cookies are amazing. Chewy, soft, crunchy, chocolatey, sweet, buttery, there are all SORTS and kinds of cookies! What’s REALLY awesome, is when the cookies taste good, AND they are good for you. Which leads me too..

Mi-Del Cookies! This company makes a bunch of products, including the 3 that they generously sent me that I am going to review today. The lucky three today are the Bite Sized Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, the Gluten Free S’Mores cookies, and the Maple Munchies cookies. Let’s begin!

Bite Sized Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies- well, first off, I think bite sized is just tooo cute! These are tiny, about the size of a penny each, which means a serving size is  23 cookies (30 grams). That’s my kinda serving size! They are a light brown in color, with mini chocolate chips. I tasted a few, and I certainly could taste the oatmeal part of the cookie. It was slightly salty and buttery tasting, and really not too sweet. What was a tad disappointing was I didn’t really taste much of the chocolate part of the cookie. However, I think these would be good with a glass of ice, cold milk. 3 stars

Gluten Free S’mores- The package states these are “Chocolate Graham Cookies with Marshmallows”, and these come in 90 calories packs. I was actually impressed, because I got a decent amount of these cookies for 90 calories! Each cookie is a dark brown in color, with little white specks. They are about the size of a half- dollar, and actually quite thick. How’s the taste? ….
AWESOME!
I really enjoyed these. They were crunchy and crispy, and a sweet chocolate cookie. The little marshmallow bits tasted like little bits of vanilla icing. Really tasty, and I really enjoyed the CRUNCH these provided. The only down side in my opinion was that they lacked fiber, and contained corn syrup solids. Otherwise, 4 1/2 stars!

Maple Munchies- the package describes these cookies as “Maple Shortbread Cookies”, and these come in a 100 calorie pack.  Now, I’m a big fan of maple, so I was happy to try these. They are about the same size as the Gluten Free S’mores cookies, but not as hard or crunchy, and a much softer melt-in-your-mouth cookie. They did have a buttery, shortbread taste, with just a slight maple taste. I do wish they had more maple flavor, and were a just a bit sweeter, but they were still quite good. 4 stars

Overall, Mi-Del Cookies certainly do not disappoint! I highly reccomend trying at least the Gluten Free S’mores cookies, as those were very delicious. I think I might even dip them in some marshmallow fluff for some added enjoyment! 🙂

Bite-Sized Oatmeal Chocolate Chip- 23 cookies (30 grams) is 130 calories, 6 grams of fat, 18 carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 7 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Gluten Free S’mores- 1 pack (23 grams) is 90 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 17 carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 7 grams of sugar and 1 gram of protein.

Maple Munchies- 1 pack (23 grams) is 100 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 4 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

Barbara’s Bakery Beanie Puffin Giveaway!* ends FRIDAY!

Bread. What a wonderful thing. Whole wheat bread, potato bread, rye bread, homemade fresh-outta-the-oven bread… I could go on and on! Nothing’s better to me than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on two slices of soft, fluffy bread.

So, I was excited to explore some new bread options for me, offered by Alvarado Street Bakery. They sent me some coupons to try some of their products for free, so I decided to pick up a loaf of the Essential Flax Seed Bread. What caught my attention for this bread was that it was a sprouted whole grain bread, and only had 100 calories for TWO slices! Some of the breads I have are about 100 calories PER slice, so that was certainly a change!

I opened up the bag and took out two slices. Each slice was soft, and a pale yellow/white in color, with a brown crust, and tiny flax seeds and other little pieces scattered throughout. Each slice is on the thin side, but about the average size in length of a piece of prepackaged sliced bread that I normally buy at the store. I took a bite of the bread as it- it was a bit bland, kind of plain. It was chewy, and the flaxseeds added a bit of texture, as well as a flaxseed taste. Overall, it kind of reminded me of a mix of white bread and whole wheat bread flavors, but was also a lighter/not as dense bread.

I decided it needed something flavorful inbetween, so I had some hardboiled eggs with hummus on the inside to make a sandwich. Not bad! I think this bread is best with something powerful, or even savory/salty on the inside, because as is, it’s a bit bland.

Overall, I give it 3 stars. I really like that I can have 2 slices for only 100 calories, and that the ingredients are awesome. I also like that there are flaxseeds in this bread, and according to the website, this bread is “A great source of Omega 3 and 6!” I think this bread may be good toasted, with some sweet fruit jam, or even with a fried egg and a slice of cheese 🙂

1 serving, (2 slices/ 45g) is 100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 15 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 2 grams of sugar and 8 grams of protein.

Sprouted Organic Whole Wheat Berries, Filtered Water, Wheat Gluten, Sprouted Organic Whole Flax Seeds, Soy Fiber, Organic Dates, Fresh Yeast, Organic Raisins, Soy Based Lecithin, Sea Salt, Cultured Wheat.

Peace Cereal Maple Pecan Crisp

Author: Healthnuttxo

THREE of my favorite things combined in one- maple, pecan, and cereal. Peace Cereal sent me some coupons to try some free products, so as I browsed the aisle at Whole Foods, I saw this cereal, and my heart lit up. MAPLE PECAN CRISP CEREAL! 😀

This cereal had corn flakes, oat clusters, and pecans. I liked that it had 5 grams of protein per serving, and that a serving was one cup. I opened my box once I got home, and the first thing I noticed was that it was sort of “separated”. All the corn flakes were on the top, and most of the oat clusters on the bottom. No worries, I thought, and I just shook up the bag a bit.

The cornflakes were actually quite large, bigger than what I’m used to. I do kind of wish they were a tad smaller, but I really liked that they had a nice crunch to them. Other than that, they pretty much tasted like corn flakes. Very lightly sweetened, crunchy, and just good.

The oat clusters were absolutely DELICIOUS. Big, crunchy and sweet, they were the best part of the cereal. They had a wonderful maple and cinnamon flavor, and I literally picked out most of them out of my box. So… now I’m pretty much left with a box of the cornflakes and a few remnants of oat clusters. heh 🙂

As for the pecan part, there actually were a pretty decent amount. Not a bunch, but there was a good amount of halves/big pieces of pecans. I liked that it wasn’t just little “itty  bitty pieces” of pecans- and that I could actually pick some out of the box and taste them.

Overall, I would eat this cereal again. I liked how it had a light and sweet maple flavor, and was just a good crunchy cereal. Aside from snacking on it dry, I had it with some almond milk and a sliced banana, and it was very delicious! I also liked that it had 5 grams of protein per serving, so there was some satiety with the cereal. One cup is 240 calories, which is a bit high (especially for a snack-out-of-the-box girl like me!), but I think it was a good breakfast with the banana and almond milk. I also didn’t really like that sugar was the 3rd ingredient listed. So, I give it 4 stars, and can see myself buying this in the future (especially for those DELICIOUS oat clusters!!) 😀

1 serving (1 cup) is 240 calories, 6 grams of fat, 42 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 11 grams of sugar, and 5 grams of protein.

Corn Flour, Whole Rolled Oats, Milled Cane Sugar, Rice Flour, Vegetable Oil (Canola and/or Safflower and/or Sunflower Oil), Pecans, Barley Malt Syrup, Maple Syrup, Cornstarch, Brown Rice Syrup, Salt, Natural Flavor, Organic Cinnamon Bark, Annatto (for color), Turmeric (for color), Purple Carrot Juice (for color), Organic Ginger Root, Organic Cardamom Seed, Organic Black Pepper, Organic Clove Blend.

Organic Valley Products

Author: Healthnuttxo

*Before the review begins, don’t forget about the Barbara’s Bakery Beanie Puffin Giveaway!*

Whenever I can, I like to chose organic products over the non-organic, especially when it comes to things like produce, milk, etc. Organic Valley is a brand that makes some delicious organic products. According to the website, “Organic. It’s all we do. In the years since our seven founding farmers got together in 1988, we’ve grown our offerings to over 200 premium quality certified organic products, including milk, cream, cheese, butter, yogurt, eggs, juice, meat, soy and produce.”

So, I was happy to receive some coupons for free Organic Valley products from Organic Valley. I decided to try the Organic 2% Reduced-Fat Milk, Organic Fat Free Milk, and the Organic Plain Yogurt (haha I realized that paragraph said the word organic about 5 times! 🙂

The Organic 2% Reduced-Fat Milk and Organic Fat Free Milk were both a treat. They both tasted so pure and real. I really enjoyed them both, even without cereal or anything else. The Organic 2% Reduced-Fat Milk even had a creamy, rich taste to it, something I’m not used to. I usually always opt for skim or fat free, maybe 1%, but not 2% or whole milk, but decided to give the 2% Reduced-Fat a try. And glad that I did! I can see myself buying both these organic milks in the future!

The Organic Plain Yogurt was also a bit different. It came in a 32 oz. bottle, rather than a container. I poured some in a bowl, and at first thought… is this just a thicker milk? It had a more liquidy consistency than what I am used to for yogurt, but still provided that tart yogurt taste! It tasted very fresh, and I loved that I could close and reuse the bottle after using some of it. I also loved the fact that it had 2 grams of fiber for an 8 oz serving! 4 1/2 stars

After trying some plain, I decided to mix it up a bit. I added some of those chocolate-milk mix powder to the plain yogurt, and then put it in the freezer for a bit to let it thicken, and get slightly frozen. Then I sliced up some banana, and added a dollop of whipped cream. What a treat! The yogurt was perfect with the chocolate-milk mix, and it was certainly a satisfying and healthy snack for me!
