First off- my apologies to the Peeled Snacks company. They sent me these to review, I wrote down all my thoughts, and completely forgot to post! But it’s all good- here it is now!
Peeled Snacks are dried fruit, mostly organic, with no added sugar like a lot of other dried fruit brands add. When the fresh fruit is dried, all the vitamins, minerals and other goodies are preserved. They also don’t contain the preservatives or sulfites that I often see in dried fruit as well. They come in individual bags for the most part, and each bag is one serving of fruit. Peeled Snacks sent me flavors “Apricot-a-lot”, “go-Mango-man-go”, “Cherry-go-round”, and “Banan-a-peel”. They also come in flavors like “Apple-2-the-core”, “Pine-4-Pineapple”, “Almond Daze” and “Cashew-later”. Let’s just start the review by saying the names are soo cute!
Apricot-a-lot– well, i felt a little biased doing this one, because i looooove dried apricots, but i have had some bad and good experiences with them. For example, the bad ones, are very tart and leather like. The good ones (*cough cough Newman’s Own Organic Apricots cough cough*) are sweet, chewy and yummy. These fell into the good category. They were not bright orange like the commercialized apricots are (the bad ones), but rather tender and sweet. (4 stars!)
Cherry-Go-Round- I’m totally copying Rachael Ray when I say YUM-O! These reminded me of those Craisins, but sweeter and without the cranberry aftertaste. They were also plumper and juicy. I ate these straight out of the bag with some nuts and dark chocolate chips. My own mini heaven trail mix! 🙂 (4 stars!)
Go-Mango-Man-Go- i never had dried mango before. Normally at the mall I see dried fruit, but its coated in sugar and honestly, that takes the A. natural sweetness away B. Natural goodness away C. Natural health away! You might as well eat candy if your going to eat something drowning in sugar. These were plenty sweet on their own. They reminded me of fruit roll ups 🙂 (4 stars!)
Banan-a-peel- The bananas were totally unexpected to me. I love banana chips, freeze dried banana, regular banana, frozen banana, any kind of banana really. I thought these were okay to be honest. They were very chewy, with a very mellow sweetness for a banana. I think they would be good with some granola, or in a trail mix with some dark chocolate chips! (3 stars!)
Overall, I’m impressed. 4 stars for sure. These were yummy ways to up my fruit intake (even higher than it already is 😉 ) and they had no added sugar. I would like to try the other flavors, I am most interested in trying the Cashew Later ( i LOVE cashews) and the pineapple flavor! If any of you guys tried them, let me know!
